I was the wedding planner for a June 7th event where Event Advantage was hired to provide both catering and DJ services. Unfortunately, this experience was extremely disappointing, and I strongly encourage anyone planning a wedding to read current reviews carefully before booking. To start, the owner, Louis, canceled the couple's scheduled tasting just 35 minutes before it was supposed to begin--due to illness. This tasting had been arranged months in advance, and the couple had traveled from Arizona, where they attend college, specifically for this appointment. Because of their school schedule, they were unable to reschedule right away and had to wait several more months before tasting the food. While illness is understandable, the last-minute nature of the cancellation--without any advance notice to the couple or myself--was unprofessional and frustrating. When the tasting was finally rescheduled, the couple chose the pasta bar and genuinely enjoyed the food. They also felt confident after meeting Louis, who reassured them he would be present at the wedding and would handle everything professionally. Over the next nine months, I repeatedly communicated--both via email and phone--that the groom had a serious allergy to peanuts, tree nuts, and eggs. Louis consistently assured us this would not be a problem and that the groom's meal would be prepared safely. Event Advantage was also hired for DJ services. In early May, the couple submitted a detailed schedule, music selections, and announcements. I asked for confirmation of receipt but never received a response. This became a pattern. I had to follow up multiple times for important items like proof of insurance for the venue, and every time I spoke to Louis, he was rushed, disorganized, and often unaware of previous communications. Just days before the wedding, I had a final call with Louis to review all details--catering logistics, dietary accommodations for up to ten guests (including a vegan/keto meal for the photographer), and the DJ timeline. He again confirmed everything was understood and ready. Then the wedding day arrived--and Louis did not show up. He didn't notify me, the couple, or the venue. The venue coordinator finally reached him, and he informed her that he wasn't coming and had sent two staff members in his place. I had never met or spoken with either of them prior to that day. More concerning, the groom's allergy was not communicated to the staff. The groom was served food that had been cross-contaminated with egg. When I brought this to the server's attention, they scraped the plate and attempted to re-serve the meal without cleaning it--clearly unaware of the seriousness of the allergy. The groom understandably felt very insecure about the food at this point, as the staff could not guarantee its safety. The service team was also understaffed, and tables were not cleared. Guests began clearing their own plates. The DJ experience was equally poor. With the exception of the ceremony and exit music, none of the couple's music selections or planned announcements were followed. There was no coordination or crowd engagement. Relatives and groomsmen had to step in to get guests' attention before DJ announcements, and later, they had to encourage people onto the dance floor because the DJ made no effort to promote participation or create energy. Adding to the issues, the microphone did not work during the ceremony, and the officiating pastor had difficulty being heard by many guests, which was unfortunate. In the days following, I contacted Louis to share our concerns. While he initially responded, he quickly became defensive and dismissive, even inventing false narratives about the event. At the continued insistence of the groom's parents, he issued a partial refund for the DJ and refunded the mandatory gratuity for catering. However, he stated the refund was conditional on me not leaving a review. I never agreed to that. Louis has no right to dictate where or how I share my experience as a client. I have full documentation and email correspondence to support every part of this review and am prepared to share it if needed. Although Louis may reference awards or past recognition, those do not in any way reflect my experience with him as a wedding coordinator--and certainly not the experience of the bride and groom, who have shared their deep disappointment with me directly. My recommendation: Do not hire Event Advantage. BUYER BEWARE - If you are looking for a professional, caring and understanding catering and dj company to go with for the biggest day of your life - DO NOT go with this company. My husband and I hired them for our wedding. They had great prices and Lou offered to take off $100 if I booked their catering AND their DJ package. So we did. There was a bit of miscommunication to start with, I wasn't made fully aware of the process, so I was waiting for months to hear from them until I finally took the initiative to reach out to Lou - he apologized for the miscommunication and then gave me direction on next steps. About a month or so before the wedding, we found out that Lou wasn't going to be our DJ, and that he was going to assign one of his other DJ's. Lou vouched for him and said that we were in great hands, we have a seasoned DJ and that he trusts him to do a great job. We had inquired about the dancing on the clouds, and Lou mentioned that it would look nice for our first dance only but it's only good for about 1 dance. I also asked him since we had an outdoor wedding, if it would have the same effect - he said that the way it works and is designed that the fog should stay on the floor, mind you Lou said he had done weddings before at my venue, so he should know right? I was also very particular with the plates/chargers/utensils that I had wanted to use since I had a theme (like most weddings do...) and with the package we got - it actually came with plates, cups and utensils (plastic). I had talked to Lou, and had asked if we went out and purchased our own plates/chargers/napkins/cups/ and utensils - if he would be able to take a little off the price since they wouldn't be providing them. He said yes, so we went out and purchased cloth napkins, burlap chargers, plates (dinner & appetizer) and custom frosted cups for our guests. All of this came out to about $500 (give or take). Lou offered to take off $100. Which was fine, we knew we were going way over but it was worth it and the custom plastic frosted cups served as a party favor for our guests to take home. I had a very particular vibe that I wanted to set at our wedding, so I went out of my way to create a number of playlists on Spotify and added way more songs than needed to each playlist so that there was no reason why the DJ would run out of song selections. I had the following playlists : Guest Arrival, Processionals, Cocktail Hour, Dinner, Bride and Groom First Dance, and Reception Dancing. I laid out the order in grave detail for the DJ to follow and specifically asked for them not to veer of the playlists, not take any special requests, AND specifically NO explicit content as we were going to have a lot of kids there. Lou said it was unusual BUT that it was going to be a SUPER easy event for his DJ. I need to note that for our first dance, I gave Lou the mp3 file - the original song is very long so we edited the song and choreographed our waltz to the edited version. The biggest day of my life would soon be ruined, I am running out of characters for this review. To make it short, the DJ was late so wedding started late, mics weren't working, DJ played the wrong song for our First dance - played the original song so we had to do our dance twice once the song didn't transition to the edited version, DJ did some sort of robotic fade out on my father/daughter dance which was beyond embarrassing, DJ did not dress professionally, DJ was drinking on the job, DJ was no where to be found when we needed him (he was off chasing some of my female co-workers), DJ kept playing songs that weren't on my playlist AND were explicit, DJ kept "mixing" when I asked him not to, a TON of my guests got food poisoning the next day, and Lou's wife Shelly is super unprofessional and disrespectful. I'm attaching my last message to Lou about the matter, the conclusion - they've ghosted me and refuse to give any sort of compensation. Planning a wedding can be stressful as it is and none the less doing so from across the country! I really wanted to give a better rating as I did for every other vendor on our big day, but need to be honest. With large gaps in communication leading up to the big day from the team at Event Advantage, to the DJ (not Louis & seemed incredibly flustered throughout the entire event) messing up several big announcements/names, dropped the ball on the ceremony music, fumbled through reception song choices (several family members including myself asked to kindly change songs and even gave a few suggestions), down to the cookies that I was assured by Louis were hand made by his daughter and would come in a mix of snickerdoodle, frosted, chocolate chip, etc., (for $300) when in fact we were told by the server behind the table that they were store bought. 2 stars is the best I could bring myself to give. A wedding is supposed to be that ONE time in your life where a business owner should do their very best to ensure they are paying the closest of attention to details (food, music etc.). Specially when you are completing an event planner form that listed out EVERY item, song, and name so all one had to do was print out and have the DJ read it at the specified times. I even went as far as sending photos of the venue to ensure they knew where things would go seeing how I was across the country. Unfortunately Event Advantage missed the mark and sadly cost my husband and I $3k for nothing more than delicious tacos. Event Advatage helped to make my small backyard wedding a dream come true. The food was amazing, and DJ Bombero was really awesome! He had a few hiccups with equipment he wasn't used to, but the guests never new because his energy was so amazing! He helped to move our party along without it feeling rushed! Because we are getting married about an hour outside of Sacramento and in a small town, our catering needs were limited. We found EA that was local to the area we are getting married. $1500 total seemed like a great deal for catering plus a DJ. Little did we know then what we know now, you get what you pay for. From the start they have been terrible with communication. Each time I have reached out to them, my emails go un-responded and I generally get a text or email later asking ME TO CALL THEM after a certain time or certain day. I found that to be incredibly unprofessional, remember, You want my business, I don't need yours. Now that I am seeing so many reviews from brides whos weddings were destroyed, I am starting to notice the same things happening with my own wedding. Which made me look further into things. The food they make looks extremely dry and overcooked and the appetizers are slopped together. I do not want my guests eating that, nor do I want the general aesthetic of my wedding to be thrown off because my caterer does not understand how to present food. The reviews were bad, but we tend to give the benefit of the doubt to any small business, because mistakes happen. But what really hit the nail in the coffin was the utterly disrespectful, immature and unprofessional response to those reviews from the business owner. After that we emailed them and asked if they could provide something in writing that stated our food would not be overcooked and that we would be getting the DJ we thought we were hiring and not someone contracted. Once again my email goes without a response. I think they fail to remember that a wedding is the most important day of your life and you are spending thousands to make sure it is. So when the most important vendor in your wedding cannot respond professionally to an email and shows this amount of disrespect to clients, It leaves you no choice but to go elsewhere. We have cancelled our booking with them and have found a more experienced and professional caterer and DJ for our wedding. Did we pay more? Yes. But again, you get what you pay for. We used Event Advantage as our caterer and DJ and could not have been more impressed! For starters, the food was absolutely DELICIOUS! They helped us cater our menu to be the most cost-effective and custom to our wedding and guests. On top of this, we had the pleasure of having Loui as our DJ, and he absolutely popped off! Special dietary considerations were communicated well in advance, but were ignored completely. Additionally, the company sent a TERRIBLE DJ who ignored all of the bride and groom's requests for appropriate music and thought nothing of playing profanity-laden hip hop with young children present. The icing on the cake was his attempt to learn how to scratch records on the spot, which resulted in poorly-timed interruptions to the music. This would have been forgivable had he not been regularly drinking and vaping on the job. I hope his dream of spinning for Def Jam Records works out one day because weddings are not his gig. read more

Anita and I were incredibly pleased with Louie and his daughter Michelle. From the initial communications and picking genres things went smoothly. They provided a photo booth that we enjoyed, and my guest enjoyed very much. Louie was a great master of ceremonies. He worked with us on timing, when the toast would be, first dance and helped me pick out a perfect song for a daddy and daughter dance. I booked Event Advantage as a DJ for my October 2022 wedding because thier package and pricing fit my needs. The initial communication was great however leading up to the wedding there was a complete lack of communication. A month before the wedding I called and emailed them to confirm and go over the details however it took 3 calls and a few emails to get a response. I finally had my husband call and they picked up but couldn't talk at that moment. I had honestly thought I was being ghosted and I had started developing contingency plans. In early emails I was told to fill out the planning sheet and then call to discuss it and if I needed help with anything they would help. There planning sheet was difficult to use and outdated. Most of what was on it did not apply to our wedding. I sent it back to them as well as a table that clearly outlined our time schedule, music preferences and choosen songs. This was in the same detailed format that I sent all of my wedding vendors and the feedback I got from other vendors was that it was extremely organized and helpful, however event advantage told me that "there DJ's are not trained to use that". I was finally able to schedule a meeting with them to discuss details for the Tuesday before my Saturday wedding. However, after waiting an hour without them calling at the designated, we left for dinner and then they finally called while we were in the car. The owner was the one who called us and not the assigned Dj. It would have been really helpful to talk to the Dj that came to our wedding because there was many missed communications. I went into my wedding day thinking that it was a 50/50 shot someone would show up based on the lack of communication leading up to that point. A very nice man did show up, which was great. He was very friendly but unprepared, I do not think any of this was his fault. I think it is the companies lack of organization. He did not have our ceremony songs downloaded and our ceremony site had little cell reception. Thankful one of groomsmen was able to set up a hotspot for him to be able to download the songs. The perssesional was the wrong version of the song eventhough I had sent the exact version to the owner of the company. Getting to the reception the Dj did not know what the anniversary dance was and I had to explain it to him. We also had not picked out a song for it which was something I forgot, however it should've been something that the company noticed. One of the major things my husband and I were looking forward to was this "prank" we were going to play on all our guest were we called them all out to dance to the acoustic version of "Get Low" and then it switched into the normal version, which would then start the party. This got messed up because the DJ only called the wedding party out. This was a small thing but dissapointed me because we had really looked forward to that moment. Overall the music played was okay, we told them middle school dance vibes but it kinda missed the mark. Again that is something that could've been fixed if we had actually met with the Dj before hand. My guests did a great job taking over the song request sheet which in turn gave us the party we wanted. I wanna stress that I think the Dj there did the best that the company prepared him for and that the lack of communication from the company was the downfall. They were incredibly difficult to work with but they showed up! My only last comment is that the planning sheet should be a writeable PDF and not a word document. read more
