THE BLACK AND WHITE: The wife and I came here for breakfast on both the days we stayed here. Wait wasn't too long but it did get crowded very quickly. Foodwi-se, we got a couple of dishes like the benedict italiano, yogurt and granola, american breakfast and a few sides like mixed berries and a chocolate croissant. Portions seemed a bit small and some items were undercooked. The chocolate croissant was still mushy inside, and not the good kind. Went for breakfast that is included with my stay at Virgin Hotels. You get a choice of an entree with juice and coffee or tea. The Benedict was very small in my opinion for the price. I also had the American Breakfast which was much more filling. Chocolate croissant was very dense and undercooked. Steel cut oats was filling and a great way to start the day. We had 10 people walk by us at 2 pm in an empty restaurant without offering us water (including to my third trimester pregnant best friend sitting with me). When we got our food, I found what is either a hair from a head or genitalia (unclear) in my salad. It could obviously not be my hair as my hair is not this color or texture. Rooftop spots appeared to be the birthday theme this Summer of 2024. And Everdene located on the 3rd floor of the Virgin Hotels NYC didn't disappoint. What service! The Hummus was one of the second best, non grainy, creamy textured hummus's I've ever had. The accompanying Pita topped with Z'atar, freshly baked, with warm light layers to scoop the hummus was an elevated combination of flavors. Of our selection of Salads, Apps, Desserts and Wines, there wasn't one bad choice. An additional plus was the night time terrace view of the Empire State Building (ESB), looming directly above us. It was especially memorable when the hourly LED Sparkle Lights displayed a flashy five minute show. The ESB was the ultimate special guest at our rooftop party. Good atmosphere and quick service, but I was a little put off by shady overcharging at the bar. I ordered a $19 drink last night and the bartender thought for a moment and said "That'll be $24.50". I said, "are you sure? the menu says $19" [the menu was open in front of me]. He just said "It's taxes. Sorry, but that's what it is". I didn't want to argue with the guy over a few bucks, but taxes should have been less than $2 on that drink. Alcohol is not taxed at 29% in NYC. In hindsight the 29% was probably 9% tax + 20% tip he gave himself... before sliding the screen over to me to leave additional tip (which I did, because I hadn't realized he already built in the tip because he just said "taxes"), so I think he effectively tricked me into tipping him twice. Nice place, but I don't like to play games with hidden fees/tips disguised as "taxes" like this so I won't be back. read more

There is a good amount of variety on the breakfast menu, and I went with the scrambled eggs, chicken sausage and hash brown patty....because I love hash browns. The hash brown patty is like real hash browns - crispy and in a patty shape. I also had a lunch snack at Everdene and had the tuna tartare along with sautéed mushrooms (my two separate orders, not an actual menu item). The tuna tartare was tasty, and, in both situations, the service was generally quite quick. My partner and I decided to try a new spot on our way to grab some KBBQ and we were so happy we did! everdene is the epitome of cool vibes and not too pretentious Manhattan hotel bar. Their beer draft menu is on point and all of their cocktails (which look delicious) are named after songs from their record label - which is fun and creative (on point with Richie Bs brand), and price point is reasonable. The staff is incredible and knowledgeable about the drinks and venue itself. Shout out to Marcus who was a pleasure to chat with and apparently a pool hall king. The bar is arranged where you can order from the inside of the bar or outside on the terrace, which makes ordering a bit difficult. Bartenders will usually focus on one side and forget the other side. Besides that, the specialty cocktails are really good. I tried the Beach Towels and 2808 Miles, both $19 a glass. Its a bit pricey and one would expect top notch service but on most nights it was like take your order and disappear then bring your food and drinks the. If all servers were like her this place would be great. The restaurant is in the Virgin Hotel, so it can be slightly confusing to find since there are no signs for the restaurant. It's also on the third floor of the hotel, so if you're looking for wide-sweeping views of the city, you won't find it here unfortunately. However, you do have great views of the Empire State Building. The food and drinks are pricey here. We paid $19 for three empanadas. The $40 Salami & Cheese Board had lots of variety, but it's not good for sharing with a large group. I think the board is good for no more than 2 people. The drinks are not heavily boozy, so keep that in mind considering their high cost. The service wants attentive as I would have hoped for a restaurant of this caliber. However, that may have been a one-off due to our server and not a reflection of the restaurant as a whole. From my observation, the service was better in other areas of the restaurant. That said, I would return because what the Everdene lacks in affordability and service, it makes up in views and vibes. read more
