He took the nail out and patched it - even checked the tire pressure for the other tires. Cool. For $15 I was good to go. A week later my tire pressure was low. I took it to the usual place (D&J Tires.. where I am right now) so they can look at it. The patch that was done was leaking. He did not do a thorough job. He is absolutely the fairest, most honest mechanic I have ever dealt with in my life. I think it's also a good sign that several of his staff have also been there for this full-time. One has to assume he's just as fair and honest with them as he is with his clients. However, I trust AAA and have been a member for quite sometime so I took my car in to be inspected at their Tully Road location. To make a long story short and after testing my car with lots of fancy diagnostic tools they told me I needed $3,924.07 in repairs including front and back brakes. Huh?! I asked what is "needed" rather than "recommended"? He quoted me around $2500. I politely told him I would go to my regular mechanic to take a look. I've been going to Tai/Tran at White Road Auto Service for decades and he has always been the most trustworthy person. Being a good old fashioned mechanic he looked under my car with a flashlight and deducted I needed my front brakes resurfaced. Then he checked under the hood and said I needed to top off my oil. Total cost $234.91. That's a difference of $3,680.16. Who do you think is going to be my forever mechanic?

I do not recommend SOS Auto Repair in San Jose. My van's turn signal issue led me here. They first…read moresuggested I order a relay, which I did, but it didn't resolve the problem. After finally taking the van to their shop, they called three days later to say it was actually just a fuse, and the repair would be $280. Understanding the high cost for a fuse, I respectfully asked if they could include a basic oil change (which my van needed) in that $280 charge as a gesture of customer service. The owner, Mr. Arthur, flatly refused and was incredibly rude in the process. Charging $280 for a fuse replacement after giving incorrect initial advice is excessive. Combining that with terrible customer service and a greedy, dismissive attitude from the owner makes this an easy decision: avoid this shop at all costs. They are dishonest and do not value their customers.

He clarified that during my follow up appointment, he did in fact say that he would waive/ decrease the diagnosis fee since it was a follow up from the previous issue. He apologized for the confusion and offered to make it right. When asked, he stated that the replacement unit they would be using is a Denso compressor (high quality) which also came with a 2 year/ 24000 mile warranty. Vik also detailed that if the price quoted wasn't going to work out for me, he could call around for other parts or even an OEM. After accepting his offer for a Denso unit, he said that he recommends changing the receiver dryer filter which came with additional cost. I was taken by surprise but he said that if the compressor fails during the warranty, the first question the manufacturer asks is if they changed the receiver dryer filter. I think if it's important to have that changed at the same time, it should be disclosed to the customer to start. After scheduling and arriving to the appointment, they were able to get me in and out in the same day (7:30am - 5:30 pm) for both the compressor and receiver dryer filter. I was also able to get my system tested and fluids refilled. The shop was also able to check over my whole car for other issues and found that my engine coolant was leaking at the hose. They didn't mention this problem the last two times so either it just showed up or it wasn't checked. Overall, I'm happy to report that the car AC is actually freezing now and stays cold (at least since the last few days) and with the warranty stated on AAA's site/receipt, I'm confident in the repair. The customer service from the staff is very friendly but just had a miscommunication to start. Things I would ask during scheduling if I came back here to repair my car would be: what brand part are you using, does anything else need to be replaced at the same time, how long is the warranty?
