We have been coming here for years and everything is amazing! For brunch try the $20 bottomless mimosas! My husband eats the eggs Benedict religiously and my favorite is the prosciutto pizza. We have never been disappointed here with the food or the staff. Jimmy is the best server with a great attitude and service. For dinner the burrata appetizer and salmon entree are fantastic and unfortunately can't speak on their desserts as I never have room because of their generous portions. They also have outdoor seating when the weather is nice and live music at the bar sometimes. It was our first time here, and overall we had a mixed experience. The night started off really well , the host was friendly and welcoming, and the food was genuinely good. However, things changed toward the end of our visit. We were never asked if we wanted dessert, which felt like a missed opportunity to finish the experience on a high note. When the check arrived, we noticed a 20% gratuity had already been added. For a party of 4, this felt unexpected and a bit unfair. I'm someone who tips well and believes tipping should reflect the level of service. I completely understand automatic gratuity for large groups, but this didn't seem like one of those cases. When I asked our server about it, the response came off as defensive, which made the situation more uncomfortable. That said, the food was good, and we did enjoy parts of the experience. Our server's name was Christina. She told us "ALL" entrees were half off today. We specifically showed her the menu and asked "even the surf & turf?" To which she replied "yes". So we ordered 2. She came back 10-15 min later and said "I couldn't read my own writing so I don't know what to put in for the chef". Then another 10 minutes later she came back to double check if it was 1-2 orders. So about 30ish minutes later she finally put the order through. We ordered 12 oysters and she brought 6. We ordered a 2nd round of beer and never got it so we told her forget it. We asked for silverware and never got it. We had to just take it off the table next to ours. The dishes were piling up and we had to ask her to clear the table. I've been coming here since it was called Suparrosa, if I spelled it correctly. Classy Italian spot, rustic vibes and the staff is very nice. Every time I go here, there's only two dishes I pick from, although I've tried pretty much 80% of the menu at this point(all of which Id recommend). The ribeye and the seafood linguine. Today, I went with the ribeye. We also ordered grilled calamari(of which they use real squid, not imitation meat), and a margherita pie. All of which were amazing. The steak was a little over done on the edges, but when I got a little deeper into it, it was a perfect medium rare. Pizza was fire, they also do the genuine Italian-American thing by bringing out bread with olive oil and parmesan so you can dip the bread in the oil then coat it with the cheese. I live downtown and was never out in the area. I met friends for dinner, who were visiting from Charleston. My friend wanted to be close to the live music so I called to see if we could sit in the bar area. Vanessa the bartender assisted me over the phone and assured we would have a table in the bar area. She was so sweet over the phone. Once we arrived, our table was ready in full view of the live entertainment. It was perfect. Ron Steta sounded great. His selection of songs were diverse and fun. Vanessa was our server. She was busy but never rushed us. She was all smiles and so helpful. Her personable assistance really made our experience better. The menu was classic Italian but diverse enough to make it interesting. Our table tried Zucchini Parmesan, Pizza, Sausage & Peppers, Chicken Vesuvio and Chicken Limon. Everything was fantastic! We also loved our cocktails and desserts. The Tiramisu was fluffy and rich. The Italian Cookie Gelato was sooo creamy and yummy! Parking is very easy. Picked up spaghetti and veal meatballs with broccolini and bread and it was all still hot and fresh when we got home. Highly disappointed in the management of this place. I made a reservation for my son's birthday online. Received a phone call the day before telling me that the reservation is not possible due to a "big" event and they were closing at 5pm. If this was the case why was I able to make the reservation at all? Seriously needs to do better. This is why people can't support neighborhood businesses-lack of management and no accountability. I'll start by saying that I would give Legno 4.5 stars. The restaurant was comfortable and the decor was really nice. Our food was good and I'll say more about that momentarily. Service wasn't bad, but it also was quite slow and there were long periods where our server wasn't available BUT I want to be fair we were there for Dinner after a big Easter Brunch service, so it's possible they weren't at their best after such a busy morning. For dinner, I got the Tartufo pizza with the Beet and Spinach salad and my partner got the Fettucine Alfredo and a meatball. The salad was a bit of a let down, it was mostly a spinach and goat cheese salad with a few beets, not bad but not exactly what I was expecting. The pizza was excellent, on par with the best wood-fired / Neapolitan-style pizzas I've had in the city. It was a bit too much for one person, it would probably be just right for two if you shared a salad or an appetizer as well. The meatball was good and very hearty, and the alfredo was good, although worth noting it's a traditional style alfredo so generally a bit less creamy / salty then some folks might expect. They also brought out bread, oil, and parmesan cheese for us while we waited, and the bread was quite good. Overall, a good meal, with the pizza legitimately qualifying as great. It was very reasonable, with the extra items we ordered, tax, and tip we were still around ~30 pp which is less than I expected. I'll definitely go again and I'd recommend it if you're in the area - I'm not sure if I'd go out of my way but I think it's comparable to most of the good 'authentic' Italian I've had in Chicago so if you're craving that it might be worth the trip. read more

I was in the area and googled a place that served fresh oysters. I nervously drove over, wondering if the place would be sketchy. I was pleasantly surprised upon arrival. This place is nice, the staff were nice. I ordered the mussels with marinara sauce, the sauce was phenomenal, VERY TASTY! I rarely eat bread, the sauce was so good I soaked a couple of pieces of bread in the sauce and enjoyed. My work colleague had the oysters on the half shell they were fresh and perfectly shucked. Kids took me here for Mother's Day I ordered avocado toast, and the plate vas not altered, except I lifted two over easy eggs to see where the avocados were! O pretty much needed a magnifying glass to find it! Maybe a 1/4 of an avocado on there . I mean, picture is worth a million bucks! I thought this was a prank, or hidden camera; for real! The Mac was a large portion with breadcrumbs, and a creaminess that blended well with a spiral noodle for a tasty bite of food. We also had a Caesar salad with the mussels in white wine sauce. The mussels were excellent and a delicious choice. The salad and mussels paired very well for dinner with a sauv blanc wine. I think we will visit again soon! read more

After my best friends and I completed getting out Covid-19 vaccines, we decided to finally get together for brunch and to come to a place where social distancing is a must, this was the perfect place. It was absolutley perfectly seasoned and just an awesome portion. enough of course to take half of it home. This portion was defintely enough for two to share. But ill have lunch now for tomorrow. So I can admit, way more food for one! Also had one of the best bloody Mary's! Fully loaded with celery stick, olives, wedge of lemon and lime and a nicely done bacon slice, oh and a shrimp! Revisited Legno after a disappointing entree experience on my last visit. As I said in a previous review I have been a loyal Legno fan for years and on my last visit I had a sub par version of my favorite Chicken Limone. On this visit I again ordered the chicken Limone and it was back to being absolutely delicious! As a matter of fact, everything that we had was wonderful. My wife had a Margherita pizza, which she loved and my son had the salmon; both of which were top notch! The service was excellent as usual, and it was nice to see the dining room quite full. I should start off by saying that we came out to Legno with Suparossa pizza in mind. And we did have thoroughly enjoy some of the best pizza, both pan and thin crust, in the city. Both Pepperoni and the sausage are delicious and the crust is heavenly. I should add that the cheese they use is obviously premium and was the perfect compliment to the pizzas other ingredients. However, we ordered from the Legno menu as well. We chose the calamari and arancini as appetizers. Holy Hell! The arancini were excellent! I cannot recommend them enough. You can taste the fresh ingredients and care taken making them authentic Italian. After that we jumped into one of the best fettuccine Alfredo dishes that I have had anywhere. I had to bribe my daughter to share more than a couple bites with me. I ordered the gnocchi which, again, was delicious. The Italian sausage was spot on in flavor and texture, the gravy (sauce), had hint of spice without taking away from the other flavors. The service was excellent and the drinks were strong! Legno offers weeknight daily specials and a happy hour from 5-6pm. The red sangria included in the happy hour was great, sweet and fruity very refreshing! The charcuterie board appetizer came with a nice variety of cheeses, meats, and 4 huge pieces of garlic crostini. For entrees we had jumbo steak & shrimp, parmesan risotto, and the mista salad with chicken. The risotto was AMAZING. Super decadent, cheesey buttery and velvety. Highly recommend! The mista salad was fresh and the chicken breast on it was seasoned well/very juicy. The steak was a little bland, but the shrimp was excellent. The mashed potatoes were homemade from real potatoes and the grilled asparagus was also well seasoned. Service was also great! Had a great experience last night at Legno in Portage Park. We arrived and were seated right away due to having a reservation. The four of us split the arancini which is sicilian style arborio rice balls stuffed with parmesan, ground beef and english peas. I wasn't expected there to be ground beef and peas inside as I've always had them with just cheese but they were pretty good. We all got one ball as they come with four For my main entree, my friend and I split the fiorentina pizza, fresh spinach, mozzarella, aged parmesan and ricotta cheese, garlic, extra virgin olive oil and angel hair pasta. I 100% recommend the angel hair pasta over the pizza because it was AMAZING! I absolutely loved the pasta and wish I lived in Chicago so I could have it more often. read more

The pizzas here are thin and soft, the crusts are warm and chewy - which is a good change every now and then. If you're wanting a crispy or firm thin crust - this won't be your jam. There's a convenient parking lot across the street but be careful, the folks tend to drive fast on Central Avenue. The restaurant itself is spacious and newer, with a bar area on one side and a dining area on the other. If you sit in a booth, you will get a lot of traffic because it's close to the kitchen but it's comfortable. There are a few flatscreens for football. As for the service, not the friendliest but it's no nonsense. This last visit, we were practically the only diners, the other tables were finished eating. Despite that, we waited 25 minutes for our first pizza (thin, not deep dish) and it came to us room temperature? The other two came shortly thereafter and warm, which is a good thing. read more

My suggestion if you want a faster brunch experience is to either sit at the bar or at the high tops in the bar area. We were able to find a bar reservation on Valentine's Day to grab dinner while we waited out a kid's practice. We had an hour and a half and first were told our order was lost after about a half hour of waiting. We remade our order and a pizza (entree) came about a half hour later, an appetizer about 20 minutes after the pizza and second entree never came before we ran out of time. Doesn't seem like our server had any ability to expedite anything. We were not offered any comps until we complained to the manager and they offered the appetizer for free. We just paid and left, no reason to ever return as the food that did arrive was pretty mid anyway. Maybe a better experience on a less busy night, but quality of service was pretty amateurish. read more

They make a mean martini and the specials are always top notch. Flatbread pizzas, lobster Mac n cheese, spicy polenta..it's all good. On this night we chose Legno for dinner and what a great choice! We have been to Legno's numerous times before, it's just right we review as one of my faves. The place is beautifully done, with dark woods and a warm decor. They have a very well stocked bar, great menu, a private event room and even their own microbrewery. As we walked in, we immediately heard the local artist singing some lovely tunes. It was so nice to be serenaded while enjoying a beautiful meal. The food was amazing as usual. Fresh and tasty high quality ingredients made every meal smooth and delightful. We ordered the Chicken Parm, Legno Mac n Cheese and the Barbecue ribs. The Chicken as well balanced and moist. The Mac was plentiful and full of flavor. The ribs were a full slab, ball off the bone and delicious. It came with home made potatoes fries. Simply delicious! I ordered a Flying Dog Gonzo to pair it all and chased that with some shared Crème Brûlée since we were full from the meal. Over all, we had a great meal, with a great serenade at a beautiful place. Entrees were not free refills for parties, but the pasta was very good. The restaurant has a dark wood theme to it. It is very modern and nice. Bathrooms are very clean.
