Went for lunch, first time in Chicago. We sat outside. Vibes are nice. Wind picked up and water and leaves fell on my hubs leaving him wet and leaves went in our drink and waters. Hostess promptly moved our seats. I had the tuna melt ( a little too greasy for me) hubs had the burger. I did see someone get the turtle for dessert and it looked great. I thought it was fine. Maybe dinner is better?

We came here for my birthday dinner and I can without say this is the best steakhouse in the city. Not sure what it is, but so far the best steaks I've had are from places that offer more of an "old school" Chicago classic vibe. The more modern and "upscale" steakhouses haven't really been serving good steaks. The service here as phenomenal. We arrived a few minutes before our reservation time and was able to get seated immediately. Our server was great, very professional and made sure our night went smoothly. They started us off with bread & butter and I also got myself a glass of wine. We also ordered their soup of the day which was Lobster Bisque. My wife ordered their Filet Mignon. And I ordered their WRs Chicago Cut. I ordered my steak medium rare and it was perfectly cooked. The steak was very tender and juicy, not too fatty and just the right amount of seasoning. My wife's filet was just as delicious. We also ordered a side of mashed potatoes and Brussels sprouts that came with maple bourbon butter and bacon. I will adjust two sides was a bit much for the both of us. Overall we left extremely satisfied and full. I can definitely see myself returning in the near future. There still a couple more steakhouses to try on my list, but this one checked off all the right boxes to skip others ones on the list to return to this one a lot sooner.

My husband and I went to lunch here today for Chicago Restaurant Week. What a great meal and deal! The menu includes bread for the table, a choice of salad or soup, steak frites, and crème brûlée. So much food! The barley and beef soup I had was fantastic. And the steak was so well prepared, I was very pleased (I ordered it medium). We have never been to Gibsons before, but I understand it's just one of these Chicago spots you have to go to at least once. We had a great time. The ambiance is very Chicago, the staff was very nice, and we didn't have trouble finding street parking. I do know though if you're visiting for dinner or on the weekends, parking in the area is tricky. All in all- I highly recommend!

Gibsons has an old school vibe to the place. Offering classic options from land and sea. Steaks, seafood, classic entrees, and great appetizers. This is a pretty happening place especially on the weekend. A very lively bar area complete with TVs to watch the latest game on. Service was great and the food was delicious. If you are looking for great classic spot this is a great spot to grab drinks or food.

Gibsons Bar & Steakhouse is a fantastic steakhouse in downtown Chicago that was the chosen location for my family reunion. This review focuses on the private dining room and amazing service that led to an incredible night full of memories. My Overall Rating - 5 Stars (Atmosphere, Service, Food, Return) Atmosphere - Gibson's main dining area is busy, bustling, and full of people downstairs. Upstairs, our group dined in the private dining room. It was large, spacious, with a wine cellar in the back. The ceiling was lined with dark wood beams and a private bar sat outside our room. Best of all, the noise level was much lower so we could enjoy each other's conversations. 1 Star. Service - Our primary coordinator was Mary Kate. She made sure everything was in order, including timing of our meal. We also had a bartender in the room who could make us drinks, and if they couldn't, they would custom order it from the bar. An army of servers dressed in sharp, white jackets would ensure each of us had an amazing experience. 1 Star. Food - Once our party arrived, our food immediately came out (the menu had already been selected). First up, the seafood tower had a plate of huge, plump shrimp, crab salad, and oysters. We also had fried calamari. But let's get real, the reason Gibson has "Steakhouse" in the name is because the steaks are amazing. I had the Chicago cut (bone in ribeye), and the prime steak was so tender and perfectly grilled medium rare. The seasoning was simple, so the beef flavor could shine. My steak was so tender and flavorful - one of the best steaks I've ever had at a restaurant. 2 Stars. Will I Return? - Yes. Now, I realize this was a private dining experience. I want to return to dine in the main dining room. I'm sure the food and service will still be outstanding. Thank you, Gibson's (and Mary Kate) for, helping our family create more memories. 1 Star.

Institution. Great service, great food, classic Chicago vibes. Everyone has been here so grabbing a steak and people watching connects you a little bit to the city

I hadn't been to Gibsons in quite a few years, but I always remembered it as one of the best steakhouses I'd ever eaten at. Going to Chicago with my wife for a long weekend, Gibsons was a must go to! The restaurant didn't disappoint, it was just as good as I remembered. The service here is first class. I loved it when our server came over showing all the cuts of beef, along with detailing how it's cooked at 1800 degrees. We each ordered filets medium rare. The steaks were delicious, served with Bearnaise sauce. The side of creamed spinach was perfect with the meal. When I made the reservation on Open Table I noted it was our Anniversary dinner. A real touch of class by this restaurant was serving us an ice cream parfait with a candle after dinner. Not something they had to do, but very nice! If you're looking for a meal to remember or a celebration, I definitely recommend Gibsons!

Classic Steakhouse. A bit unorganized on arrival and seated 1/2 after our reserved time slot booked in advance. But, the vibe is comfortably noisy and the service -- from professional, yet engaging old school waiters, was top notch. Nicely done! Shrimp cocktail did not disappoint. Wedge salad gets an A+, fantastic blue cheese dressing! Beef barley soup way up the chart of hearty, meat and barley-filled deliciousness! Chicago cut steak for me was perfectly cooked, with a great outer char and hot pink inside. My friend's steak was semi-raw on the first try, but came back just fine after further cooking. Spinach and twice baked potato were tasty sides. Great meal!

Truly deserving of 5 stars. We were seated in about 1/2 hour without a reservation which was nice, but I highly recommend that you make a reservation for a great experience. We all ordered the Chicago Cut since this place is known for it and we were all pleased. It was cooked to perfection and melted in your mouth with every bite.

Another great Chicago restaurant! We stopped in after an afternoon of wandering the streets of Chicago. Lucky us! There was a lovely outside table available. We decided to split a rack of ribs and a wedge salad. The kitchen went above and beyond-chopping up our salad and splitting the Ribs for us. Delicious!!!! 10/10 The service was excellent, the food divine and the weather gorgeous.

Perfect day for an outing, and Gibsons delivered on every level. The weather was beautiful, which made the experience even more enjoyable. A reservation is definitely recommended - this spot is popular for good reason. From start to finish, the service was exceptional: attentive, friendly, and professional. The food was outstanding - steaks were cooked to perfection and incredibly juicy. The sides were equally impressive, packed with flavor. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a top-tier steakhouse experience in Chicago.

It seems that Gibsons will always be a classic solid steakhouse. I came here for my bday and enjoyed the food plus atmosphere. I had a 12 oz prime rib, sautéed spinach, and a plain baked potato. The Prime rib was flavorful and seasoned well. The highlight was having an oz of Louis XIII cognac. They rolled it out on a silver cart and gave a whole presentation which seemed like it lasted 5 minutes before pouring it up. The fragrance was heavy, yet this was the smoothest drink I have ever had. Also tasted just delightful in every way. I hate I didn't get any photos, but I'm sure there will be a next time.

Do you get a small salad with purchase of a steak?

Yes you do! Choice of four dressings I believe. The salad is the best option. I believe they offer a soup (mushroom when I went) but everyone gets the salad.

    Do they have unpriced menus?

No, it is not that sophisticated.

I explained further if there is a cancellation would love to be notified and she wrote my name down. I went back to the lobby, looked on OpenTable and I saw multiple reservations. I went back to the hostess showing the 8:15 resy I got and she said it wasn't accurate and if someone booked it and came they would refuse them (what???!! There's a cancellation fee as well). I asked about the 8:45 and her coworker said that IS available. I was confused, because a minute ago she said they were fully commited. Which I said back, she said there is actually an 8:45 (okay so you lied). I asked if we could put our name down for that and did. After that extremely strange interaction, which I was not used to after eating at many higher end restaurants we sat down at 8:45. We ended up getting a mix of small plates. The waiter was clearly trying to sell us their expensive courses for his tip though he was very sweet... which he may not have realized we had an expense budget for work and we were trying not pass that. He emphasized the small plates were small and not enough food which we fell for and got more and had way too much food and passed our expense budget due to it. The food is great, it's the service that has work to do especially for such a high price tag. Get the chicken for sure. Dumplings you can pass on. The broccolini (not pictured) is great as well. Amazing sauce. As the food is good I would not come here again due to the service as their are other restaurants that are more buttoned up than this.

The filet was cooked perfectly with a great sear, while the stuffed lobster tail was warm, flavorful, and topped with a parmesan crust. The lobster roll was solid with a perfectly toasted brioche bun. The sweet corn was sweet, buttery, and smoky. For dessert, the blueberry pie was so comforting. The filling had a chewy texture, wasn't overly sweet, and the crust was perfectly crisp. The key lime pie was a nice surprise from the restaurant and had a great graham cracker crust. Overall, every dish was delicious and executed well but nothing really wowed me flavor wise. If you love classic steakhouse food and seafood, this is the spot. The service alone makes it a fantastic spot for celebrations. Thank you David & Joe's Seafood for the incredible night.

People like him have almost a "super‑recognizer" ability: they store faces, mannerisms, and micro‑details the way others remember song lyrics. It's rare, and when you encounter it, it feels almost uncanny in the best way. And the fact that he consistently recognizes you over the years tells you it's not luck. It's intentional, it's skill, and it's part of why the place feels special before you even sit down. Pair that with a meal that exceeded expectations -- that's the kind of night that reminds you why you've been a loyal patron for so long. Great food is memorable, but great hospitality is what makes a restaurant feel like a second home.

I had seen it previously advertised on TikTok and decided it looked like a nice, upscale dining experience and the perfect mimosa-filled brunch opportunity. Upon coming in at 11 when the location opened, I was already impressed by the beautiful cafe inspired French interior. The warm lighting and refined Parisian details were so beautiful and elegant, and I especially loved the look of the bar, which is a central statement of this restaurant. I chose the French toast breakfast and my boyfriend got the steak and eggs, and we both had mimosas as well! My French toast was light, fluffy, and delicious, definitely a solid choice. My boyfriend was super impressed by the steak and eggs and said it was the best breakfast he had our entire trip! The food itself was great and I would love to come back and try their dinner menu at some point. The service, however, is what truly stood out to me in our experience. Our servers were very helpful, knowledgeable about the menu, and speedy. We truly felt taken care of. Fernando was the sweetest and most welcoming, and he immediately made my boyfriend and I feel so welcomed and at home in Chicago. We greatly enjoyed our conversation with him and he even gifted me a coffee table book detailing the history and menu of La Grande Boucherie, which was so kind and such an amazing gesture. Fernando set our experience apart from any other dining experience in Chicago and he made this meal one of our favorites!

We ordered the $195.00 seafood tower, only to find that it barely included any seafood, 1/2 of a lobster, 4 shrimp and about a dozen oysters. I understand that Chicago is not a coastal city, but to not even include an entire lobster for a tower that cost $195.00?! Yikes! The drinks are also very expensive, and we found the steaks to be tough and dry. The Niçoise salad was awful, and not at all what we expected. It was drowning in dressing and the combination of anchovies and tuna did not work. It was also quite obvious that the tuna was not seared properly. I did think the roast chicken was good, and the fries were by far the best part of the meal. We went to several fine restaurants over the past few days to celebrate a milestone birthday, and La Grande Boucherie was the absolute worst in terms of value and quality of food. They were also the only establishment that didn't give the celebrant a small desert with a candle to mark the occasion. Just disappointing all around.

Our dinner guide, Nicholas, was superb. Very knowledgeable about the menu and suggested two perfect spirits from the bar. My wife had the Irish old fashion which was excellent. I had a vodka Gimlet, which also was superb. Palate pleasing! The meal was absolutely enjoyable. I enjoyed the Curry Chicken. The thigh meat was tender and succulent. The curry was sweet and creamy. It came with pita bread which added to the dinning experience. Just wonderfully enjoyable. My wife enjoyed the Fish and Chips which beat Bobby Flay. True words from the menu. Wife said if was the best fish and chips she has ever had. Then came the dessert. Now I asked Nicolas and he suggested Pavlova and Blood Orange. Which lead me to survey Margaret and she suggested Sticky toffee date cake. After a friendly jostling back and forth of desert knowledge Greg the Maitre-d made also suggested the Sticky toffee. Both came and to be honest both were outstanding. Excellent choices. All and all this was a great dinning experience from beginning to end. We will return next time we are in Chicago.

Ambiance and decor is top notch! This is SUCH a pretty spot! Very IG-worthy, with different details and moods on different walls. The bar was especially stunning. Service was impeccable. From the minute we walked in, the host and manager were friendly and personable. Our server was the right amount of conversational to make it feel personal but not overwhelmingly so. He was also very knowledgeable about the menu and had great recs. When I asked about "Sophia style" he had great descriptions and recommended it as his personal go-to. The bus staff was also incredibly attentive and wiped down the table between courses (a detail of fine dining that I think makes a huge difference!) Now the FOOD! Wow the truffle fries were some of the best fries I've ever had in my life. Weird item to lock in on, I know, but a good fry tells you everything else will be amazing too. It was crispy on the outside and the perfect pillowy texture on the inside. The steaks and bacon were incredible. It was cooked exactly as I like (I like mine medium well and run into a lot of places undercooking it. I know, it's unpopular but I am also paying for what I want. So I appreciate the perfection from Sophia on this one!) and I really enjoyed it Sophia Style. I love that all steaks already come with the house steak sauce and steak salt at bare minimum. The chocolate cake was AMAZING. it's gigantic, they literally served it with a steak knife lol. It's hazelnut and chocolate so it has a very rich deep flavor. They brought it out with a candle for my birthday which was a nice touch! Sophia Steak made my birthday dinner feel very special and we cannot recommend it enough for your special occasion!
