I've been going here for probably 25 years and for whatever reason never took the time to leave la review. Went in yesterday and I had the gyro sandwich. It is so good. The pita bread is warmed on the grill so toasted on the outside and soft and fluffy on the inside. The gyro meat is generous and has great flavor. And like many of the other reviewers have mentioned, it's family owned and very nice people that support the community . Can't wait to get another one but will have to wait until Monday since they are closed on Sundays. read more

I popped into this place on a whim. The first thing I saw was the Vienna Beef Hall of Fame banner. Thats always a good sign. The gentleman behind the counter and took my order. As I was waiting he was greeting people by first name. And knew what they wanted. I received my 2 hot dog they come with a half order of French fries. The dog was beefy and the topping were fresh. The peppers had a nice heat. The thick crinkle cut fries were crisp and really complimented the hot dog. My gyro was filled with really tasty meat but the tzatziki sauce didn't quite do it for me. A little bland, maybe. More cucumber, less yogurt. Something. Anyway, everything else was great. This was my first time visiting and we were greeted with a huge smile and hello from the daughter of the owner what a beautiful lady. The food was so yummy, the best cheese burgers I've had in a while, good-sized meat. I highly recommend this location if your in the area. It's nicely decorated with sports memorabilia and very cozy and clean. The owner asked me to come back on my birthday because our birthday are both in November, that was so sweet. read more

Surprisingly good! I have gone to a bunch of places like this, but I will say that this one has probably the most unique dishes and all of them fresh. I like the Francheezie which isn't very common in other places. Its cheese, bacon, and a hot dog. Its a heartattack, but good! My nephews got chicken fingers which were pretty large and everything came with fries. You can't go wrong. They also have a sizable seating area with plenty of space for larger areas. Theres millions of places like this in the area and across Chicagoland, but this is the best of them all! I will be stopping by again! read more

The food is really good and is always fresh and hot. I am not a person that eats a variety of different foods. However, every dish that I have tried here is delicious. My all time favorite is their fish sandwich (pictured). If you are ever in the Niles area you should stop by and give them a try. For decades, I've past by this place but never went in. I've been to many a eatery of this type. Generally they are all ok, but Papa Chris' is a DARN GREAT place. Before I say anythang about the food, I HAVE to mention--if you luv Sprite like I do, THE FOUNTAIN SPRITE IS OFF THE CHAIN!! Lots of carbonation & they got the syrup mix just right. I had a cheeseburger & a small fry. My "small" fry was actually a big order. They got them to a real golden, crispy, fluffy somethin so I couldn't stop eatin then. The cheeseburger was EXCELLENT. My meal was worth every cent & will be back again. The sister/bearbrother team runs the joint. There's a sense of comraderie in there, they work in sync with each other, it's a team environment all the way. Workin together, you get to see the personalities blend well, they all have beautiful charasmatic ones. They thanked each & every customer & said come back soon. And they dont just sit behind the counter with the deer in headlights look. Everyone is active doing something. They also will carry a conversation with you if allowed. Best part---if you really dig your food n want to "get down", you can. They have booths too if you prefer to stay out of sight. But I was sitting at a table right near the counter & I didn't care who saw me smash those fries. I started lookin a lil sloppy but oh well-- ==the sister was kind enough to give me a refill on my Sprite as I walked out the door== This is how well they treat their customers. If you want good fast food and service stop at Papa Chris'. I have been here a few times and have not ever been disappointed. The place is clean and the staff is very friendly. We love the curly fries. But this time we got a lot of tail ends of the potatoes. So we didn't have many fries that were curly. But seasoned well and nice and hot. We placed a to go order. I try different things each time and I've never been disappointed. This time I had a fish sandwich. It's a nice size sandwich with lettuce, tomato and tarter sauce. The tarter sauce was on the side and not on the sandwich. So eating it on the road made it hard to eat. The lettuce was shredded and fell out of the sandwich and made it messy. Lettuce leaf would be better than shredded lettuce. But it was hot and good. Next time we'll ask for them to put the tarter sauce on the sandwich. Great place. Will come back. read more

Papa Chris has a pretty decent sized parking lot, as they do share the plaza space with 3 other businesses, but every time I go, there's plenty of parking. There's also a few diagonal side street parking spots as well. Papa Chris' is one of those classical fast food joints that offer all sorts of variety, such as your staple hot dog, burgers, shakes, chicken sandwiches, and pizza puffs. I like taking my kids there because of the variety and the price is great. Every once in a while, you'll find some print coupons in the local mailer. Their menus are hung overhead, and you just go to the front, where there is plexi-glass for the pandemic of 2021, and order. As of Feb 2021, their dining area is open, although they did tape-off several booths to practice social distancing. The fam ordered several items: - Cheese burger - my son had the burger and he said it was pretty good. He mentioned that he thought the burger was too well-done, and he'd prefer his burgers cooked medium. But he said he would still give the burger a solid 4-stars. - Seasoned curly fries - he loved the fries. Nicely seasoned, and most of the fries were indeed curly (we've been to places where their curly fries were more like half-crescent fries) - Grilled chicken sandwich - I ordered this with tomato, lettuce, onion, and hold the mayo. The sandwich came in a round hamburger bun and it was good. The chicken wasn't overcooked and it was fairly seasoned well. I wish the chicken could have been bigger though. - Chili - this was somewhat too salty for me. The chili was more of a paste, and it looked like they grinded the beans into it - Soup of the day: Clam chowder - very tasty! I ordered this on a whim and my other son loved it. The order came with saltine crackers - Chicken fingers - an order came with three. They were fairly decent sized. I would estimate maybe 2-3 oz of chicken in total. My son did chew on cartilage on each of the tenders... wasn't too much of a fan, but he still enjoyed it. - Regular fries -- nothing too crazy and these guys. They were the crinkle kind and was good. Overall, the people taking our order was nice, the food was pretty good, and the price was good. With the above items (including 2-extra burgers) the bill came out to around $43. Definitely check out Papa Chris's place if you're in the mood for some good ol' burgers and shakes. read more

With so many hot dog/Italian sausage places throughout the Chicagoland area, I rarely end up at the same place. I've been to this location twice now and both times I have been very impressed. The interior is very clean and neat with plenty of seating. The counter service was cheerful and straight to the point which is how I prefer it. Their Italian beef was awesome! My only regret was that I didn't eat it on-site as there dip while delicious made the sandwich almost necessary of a fork. Anytime I'm in this part of time, I will keep them in mind! read more

Stopped in years ago and had a great hot dog and fries. Came in today and had the most bland Italian beef sandwich with fries. The fries were mushy as they were severely underdone. It wasn't that busy. I didn't say anything because the gentleman behind the counter was a little hot to trot/yelling at staff. So, won't be back. It's nice to be greeted like an old friend, even if you've just started coming here. That's how I've felt since first walking in to Papa Chris's a few years ago. Nick and Pam are excellent at making each customer feel welcome and valued. My parents used to go here years ago, and my dad always said the same, but it wasn't until I experienced it myself that I truly understood. We always do carry-out, and that gives us a few minutes to stand and chat while we wait for our food to come up. In addition to the customer service, several things stand out on the menu at this neighborhood-favorite Chicago hotdog, burger, and gyros spot: The Big Stan, a large, char-grilled Polish Sausage, is excellent. I've recently started ordering mine plain, no bread, because the sausage itself is just that good. The Francheezie is also excellent -- a 1/4 pound hot dog, wrapped in bacon and fried. I always have them hold the regular toppings and add American cheese (this time melted on the bun, but similar to the melted cheese my Francheezies had in the middle when I was a kid). It's a winning combination! My husband loves their gyros, and usually gets these. I have another place I regularly go for gyros, but he likes Papa Chris's equally well. I usually have them hold my fries, and instead get one of their other delicious sides: seasoned curly fries, fried cauliflower, fried mushrooms, or the Saganaki Pita. I appreciate that they give me a credit for the fries, since these are usually bundled in with the price of the sandwich. Oh, and hey, let's talk for a minute about the Saganaki pita ... It's the first thing I ordered from here, and I've never seen anything like it anywhere else. It's basically a slice of Saganaki melted on a pita. But it's delicious, and much easier to carry out and eat at home than a normal order of Saganaki would be. The other thing that merits its own call-out is the Spinach Pie (or Spanakopita to those of us who know and love Greek food). It's flaky, nicely stuffed, and perfectly browned. I often order a sausage or hot dog as my "now meal" and the Spinach Pie as my "tomorrow meal." I put it in the fridge overnight, and it reheats great -- 350 for about 10 minutes -- and it tastes just as good as if I ate it fresh. I asked if the soup of the day (mushroom ) was homemade and she said yes. Unfortunately, it tasted like Campbells.
