I met Nancy shortly after I moved to Skokie back in 2006. I had been working in the area since 2004. I would run all the way out to Lake Forest to get my hair cut. Good hairdressers are not easy to find. Nancy understood that perfectly. I met her while I was working. As one of my customers, we got to talking and she mentioned to me that her salon was right across the way from where I worked. Being a hairdresser, Nancy could tell right away that I colored my hair and what kind of work went into it. She could also see exactly how my hair was cut. Hairdressers always know. The trick with hairdressers, is whether or not they can step in and do the same without doing too much to try to impress as a stylist. It's a given that you certainly do not want them to damage your hair either. I cannot say enough about how impressed I am with Nancy's years of talent as a hairdresser. I am not an easy client. There have been a couple days that I have gone in there and I don't know why I haven't been smacked upside the head with a curling iron! Very few hairdressers can cut your hair to your exact request. For me, Nancy does this every time. She really goes out of her way to get to know your preferences for cut and color. As a single woman, I swear that changes with me every day. I am the kind of woman who gets in moods where I think my hair is going to change everything about me and reinvent me. Nancy has done this with only my vague verbal expressions; which I swear are more of a psychological cry for, "I'm lonely and I need attention," than it is a desire for simple change. As a cliche, I just hate that too. The best part? I still come out looking fantastic!! I have never left that woman's chair unhappy. Nancy is wise and totally that kind of hairdresser you can talk to. I really think she should also be considered a legitimate therapist. She'll never claim she understands how the world works; but I swear she doesn't realize how much that kind of discretion is utilized in conjunction with her life experience. Nancy styles with all kinds of hair. Her clients go in and come out new, fabulous, and refreshed right down to their soul. I see this because I work right across from her salon. Everyone leaves with a genuine smile on their face. I think it's safe to say all of her clients, including myself, love her dearly for everything she does. A true miracle worker, I cannot appreciate Nancy enough. Now I commute from Chicago, just to have her do my hair. Hope to see you there soon!! read more

Horrible! We don't live in the area and my wife scheduled an appointment for the day we would be in town. She got there at 8:30 in the morning and they didn't have her name down! The rude girl at the front decided to check the book to see if they had the wrong week and sure enough they did. She didn't even acknowledge the mistake or apologize. My wife left and will not be returning. Save your time, go somewhere else. There are so many more places with better service! read more

For many years I have been looking for a hair "home". My place to go to that makes me happy and that I walk out feeling and looking great. Not a place where you aren't crazy about the way your hair looks or where a dresser says "you have to get used to it" or "give it a few days". I think you need to walk out and right away feel like you look GOOOOD. I've gone to expensive places, I've gone to cheap, I've even done my own. TODAY...I found my hair home. This salon is hidden in the dungeons of old orchard shopping mall, but it is a hidden gem. It is not a pretentious salon. Prices are reasonable, esp. for the amount of time spent. I had Karen for partial highlights, hair trim, and blow-out. She did a great job, and I looked exactly how I envisioned. Karen was friendly and took her time. We reminisced about how Old Orchard use to look. I highly recommend and as Schwarzenegger says "I WILL BE BACK." read more

Was in the area on business and desperately needed a haircut and style. Read a terrific review on Yelp so gave In Style Salon a try. Karen fit me in at the end of her day and I was the only person in the salon. Even though it was the end of the day, she took her time with me, asked me what I wanted and what I liked, and she spent lots of time on the shampoo when I told her I had a headache. Karen offered me a bottle of water when I went to the chair and she was meticulous in getting the hair in a beautiful shape. She showed me how to work with the blowdryer and flat iron to get the look and I appreciated it. She knew that I was here on business and probably wouldn't be a regular, but she treated me with courtesy and took time with me. I would highly recommend this salon. It's a little hard to find being downstairs from an outside mall entrance, but definitely worth finding. On my next business trip to the area, I will make another appointment. read more
