This was my first visit to the chophouse. I don't know why I waited so long! We arrived early for our reservation, but quickly got seated. The restaurant isn't very big but big enough I suppose. Great lighting and I love the jazz music playing in the background. I noticed the dress was more business casual, but in my opinion, I also noticed folks coming in that were dressed way too casual. The staff in general were very customer oriented. Our server, Sydney, was very attentive and helpful with suggestions. When you go to place like the chophouse, you don't order the chicken, you go with what they do best.. steak. To start the dinner I had the French onion soup. I'm a big fan of French onion soup and this soup was the next level great. For dinner, I had the Del Monaco and it came with mashed potatoes and a vegetable medley. The steak was cooked to perfection and was properly seasoned. I enjoyed the vegetable medley and mashed potatoes as well. It all tasted great. Although my meal was excellent, the best part was dessert! I don't normally order dessert at restaurants, not my thing. I'm usually too full by the end of the meal. But, I had to try the gooey butter cake which came with homemade cherry ice cream. Well worth ordering! It was simply delicious. We attended a Rehearsal dinner here so while it was a set menu we really enjoyed everything! Eric at the bar was a delight and helped us with all our drinks- loved our whiskey sours and godfathers. Parking is a challenge. The servers were all friendly and very helpful. Loved the swank New York feel with dark wood walls, and ambient lighting in the area that we were seated in. We all got to choose from a couple options for each of the courses on a 4 course menu. For my appetizer I got the truffled mushroom ravioli and it was so good I didn't want to share- but I did lol and everyone else liked it too. We all got the Cesar salad which was one of the best I've had- not over dressed and very flavorful. I got the sea scallops for my entree an loved it! Was worried about ordering it because when u get grit in a scallop your wary about ordering ever again but the server assured me that I would not be disappointed and they were absolutely right. The scallops were sweet and perfectly cooked. My only complaint was there wasn't enough. Feel like there should have been more than three because they weren't that big. Especially compared to the ribeye that everyone else ordered which was also prepared very well and enjoyed by all. Definitely a heartier meal if you're hungry. My spouse and I eat here a couple times a year, and we are nothing if not consistent: we only order the steaks. Because of that, I cannot responsibly speak on the rest of the menu--but the steak lane? I know it fairly well. As a fine-dining establishment, it delivers. There's a live piano player, which adds a nice touch... unless you're seated too close. Then essentially enjoying a very intimate dinner WITH the piano man. Loud. Distracting. A third wheel. Steak options are limited but solid. I usually order medium, especially for bone-in cuts. If you're going boneless, I recommend medium rare--trust me, this advice was earned the hard way. Our most recent visit, we passed on the bread. Not out of restraint, but because our metabolism no longer negotiates and has retired! Full stop, the bread is great, but aggressively filling. The waitstaff are pleasant, attentive without hovering, and knowledgeable about both the menu and the rotating specials. Wine pours aren't always perfect, but the staff knows the list well. Speaking of the wine list: it's decent, with the expected 300% fine-dining markup. Pro tip--skip anything you'd normally grab at your local liquor store and aim higher to justify the pain. The vibe is very old-school mafia boss: dark wood, leather chairs, crisp white linens, dramatic lighting, and strong film-noir energy. You half expect someone to whisper "take care of it" from a corner booth. IYKYK--especially the center half-moon booth off the main dining area, where you're on display for check-ins, coat check, and a steady stream of awkward eye contact. The bathrooms are clean, but not easily found if it's your first visit - basement vibes (think secret vault) where you may need a map. If you're celebrating an anniversary, birthday, or milestone and want subtle recognition--no singing, clapping, or secondhand embarrassment--this is your place. This restaurant is considered a classic steakhouse in NH, and it was pretty good, but not great! The service was outstanding with our waitress being there for many years, and the food was good. I was kinda disappointed they didn't have a lobster dinner on the menu as an entree. They had lobster as an add-on, but no meal with just a lobster. I even asked and it was only available to add it on to an existing entree. C'mon, you're in New England! So I settled on the scallops that were served over a mountain of risotto, which was nice but I was going for for light dinner, so I didn't eat much of the risotto. The scallops were cooked perfectly though! The shrimp cocktail too was good, but for a chop-house, I expected some bigger shrimp. They had plenty of horseradish in the cocktail sauce which was nice! It paired well with the old fashioned though! 3-Star food and 5-Star service! But the fact I didn't get lobster set me up for Hooked for an amazing Lobster Roll the next night! Manchester is making moves with Hanover Street Chophouse! We had a wonderful dining experience last Friday evening at Hanover Street Chophouse before a show at the SNHU. From the moment we arrived and took advantage of the complimentary valet, I knew we were in for a treat. The restaurant's ambiance, with its dark walls, was reminiscent of a classic steakhouse, creating a very romantic setting. Our server, Catherine, greeted us warmly, introduced the specials, and brought our cocktails along with a delicious bread basket. I started with the Wedge Salad for myself and the French Onion soup for my husband. While I found the Wedge a bit overdressed, it was still delicious. For our entrees, we shared the Prime Steak, ordered medium-rare. While it was slightly undercooked for my taste, it was served with fresh vegetables and cheddar mashed potatoes, all of which were very enjoyable. We also selected a bottle of red wine that paired perfectly with our steak. To finish, we shared the special Lemon Pound Cake with ice cream, and we were so full that we had to take leftovers home. Everything was outstanding, and the gesture of one of the GMs checking on our experience was a rare and appreciated touch. The menu is strong, although I do wish they would provide a free sauce for your steak for these prices. Compared to other steakhouses on the west coast, the prices here are a bit expensive for the area. To be honest, for the food quality alone, I would probably give the restaurant a three-star. The meat was just fine, but it wasn't spectacular... Again based off the high price of the meat. I deducted a star specifically for how bad the vegetables were cooked. Frankly, it was a bit shocking, the mixed vegetables were brutally overcooked to the point it was mush. We had asparagus swapped out for free, and they look good.. but they were two Al dente. On my entree, I had these lions made mushrooms... That were damn nasty. They were in edible. I'm not sure why you put those on steak dish when there's too many other easy to eat mushrooms. I've been here a few times now, but most recently had an amazing work dinner! Our waiter Andrew was fantastic. This is a nice place for a fancier meal/occasion- darker aesthetic, but still sleek, clean, and cozy. We had a pre-fix menu. I ordered the mushroom ravioli, filet mignon, and flourless torte. Everything was delicious - the filet was tender and juicy (I've had their strip before which I like more, but they still knocked it out of the park with the filet). The ravioli was cooked perfectly, and the sauce was dreamy creamy! I have too much of a sweet tooth to be an impartial judge on desserts, but let's just say I ate every last bite of the torte. Interesting things happening here the last few months. We have been loyal supporters of this place since the day it opened. A prime upscale steak house that did everything g right and then some. The last few visits we have been here, the quality of food and its taste has dropped, decreasing the value here. When you spend $500+ for a party of four...clearly this is a major disappointment. I was lucky enough to stumble on Hanover Chophouse on a business trip and went here two straight nights. The ambience and service in the bar were amazing. The wine selection by the glass was top shelf with fair prices. I ordered the filet mignon each night, both nights it was a perfect MR with great mashed potatoes and veggies, although the veggie portion was really small IMO. We went to Hanover Street Chophouse for our anniversary dinner. The place is absolutely beautiful, especially around the holidays when it's decorated so nicely. Everything from start to finish was fantastic. Our waitress was excellent and engaging and attended to our every need. The food is fantastic. We started with the burrata which is more like a charcuterie than your typical burrata. It was excellent. I had the bone in fillet and hubby had the bone in ribeye, both were terrific although mine was slightly overcooked. We finished with some red velvet cake, which was moist and heavenly. The wine list is expensive and has something for everyone, as is the bourbon and spirits list. I definitely recommend Hanover Street Chophouse. My wife and I visited Hanover St Chophouse for the first time. For the most part it was great. We arrived a little early for our early evening reservations but were seated immediately. To start I had their French Onion Soup, which I've been told by many is one if the best. It lived up to the hype. It was full of sweet onions in a tasty sherry infused broth then topped off with crouton and a lot of melted cheese. My wife had their Caesar Salad and was happy with it. For entrees I had their bone in ribeye and she had the boneless Delmonico. Both came out at the requested temp. My wife loved hers saying it melted in her mouth. My ribeye was tasty enough, but it had a line of gristle through it that made it a tough chew in spots. We did get a giant slice of their carrot cake with a scoop of vanilla ice cream for dessert. Great service ambiance and food. I had not been to the Chophouse since last fall and this was the first time my spouse had been there. The ambiance was wonderful and what you would expect from a Fine Dining Establishment. We were promptly seated and made to feel comfortable. Our server Doug was exactly what you expect in a excellent server, friendly, found out a little about why you were there, what you liked etc. but did not stay too long just the right amount. For the entire dinner he always touched base with us as he came by going to other tables to see if we were happy and anything we needed. We did not feel rushed but all kept moving and we always had something to drink on the table. Each course came out as we requested, and once done the next course was soon out. The steaks were excellent and cooked exactly as specified, my spouse doesn't like a lot of spice on her steaks and it was prepared and cooked to perfection. At the end we were given a chance for dessert and declined, but as I noted to Doug initially it was my Birthday, we were served two of the best tasting chocolate chip cookies I have had and two perfectly ripe strawberries. I eat out regularly and knew I would get a good meal but it was not good, it was Great, and the Service was some of the best I have had. It reminded me of past excellent experiences here and that we need to dine here more often. We tend to go out to eat often but cannot express how much we enjoyed our time at Hanover Street Chop House. Upon entering the hostess was very pleasant and sat us immediately. Our waiter David paid attention to every detail and then some. Not usually the case in waitstaff nowadays. The drinks were spot on and love the added choices. The food was cooked to perfection which has been so hard to find at other restaurants on steaks being cooked correctly. The only nit picky thing I can say is I thought the bearnaise sauce as a side was expensive and a bit bland, needed a bit more tarragon and more flavor. The Boston cream cake was also excellent. Food was ok but the downside was when the server filled a wine glass for my wife that had a broken piece of glass creating a hole and the wine spilled on her blouse and bra. This was a great experience for an 80th birthday celebration! We made a reservation and were surprised and pleased to see we were given a table in a private dining room which was a lovely surprise. The accoutrements were quite top notch with white linens, fine tableware, and excellent and attentive service. I tried the "Karen's Cosmo" which was tasty and definitely did not skimp on the liquor. Since we were there on a Sunday we were intrigued by their three course Sunday meal for $40. This is quite an exceptional deal since the filet mignon itself is $41 a la carte. I went for the Caesar salad which was excellent and available with or without anchovies. The dressing was quite close to a class Caesar dressing rather than the cream white dressings you sometimes get which are not the classic dressing for this salad. The large bread basket featured three different types of bread including their excellent Parker House rolls. For my entrée I chose the filet mignon which was excellent. Tender, tasty, and overall just perfect! It was served with garlic mashed potatoes which were creamy and smooth and not too heavy on the garlic flavor as well as a small portion of assorted vegetables. For dessert I opted for the flourless chocolate cake. This was also very good. Chocolatey (but not too chocolatey) with just the right amount of sweetness. The service was excellent and attentive throughout without being intrusive. For a small city this is an excellent upscale steakhouse that certainly could give some of the steakhouses on the Las Vegas strip a run for their money. You won't be disappointed! read more

This....was a tough one to review for me. Not just because the service was technically hit or miss due to the holiday. Not just because the menu is a bit pricey, considering the execution of certain courses. But I think because....I wanted to like this place more than I did. I was seriously teetering between 3 and 4 stars because it really wasn't all that bad. Yet, it could be SO much better if it tweaked a few things. Let's discuss. I should start by saying the wine here is not cheap. In fact, I feel as if the average joe will have to save up a couple of paychecks just to eat here. And ya know....I'm a man about town who's wallet is far from empty. At the same time, I also like to get my money's worth. I guess what I'm saying is if you're gonna pay $15 a glass for house wine, that stuff better cure cancer. Seriously, that's more than some people earn an hour. Anyways.. We start things off with a clam chowder for me and a lobster bisque for the wifey (which was a soup de jour, btw). The former was better than the latter, but both soups needed more seasoning. It's weird, because the chowder was actually perfect in every single way that did NOT have to do with seasoning. Texture, thickness of the chowder, amount of clams and vegetables...all perfect. It just needed that extra few dashes of salt and it would have been a solid 10. Instead, this one's an 8 for me. The bisque...*sigh*....what a disappointment. I dunno why my wife keeps taking chances on sketchy lobster bisques. I guess it's a bit like Russian roulette though; you never know how the end result will turn out until you pull the trigger. At any rate, this bisque had virtually NO lobster in it. And what pieces did exist were minced to oblivion. I already mentioned the lack of seasoning. Also, this stuff tasted more like heavy cream with a severe lack of that lobster flavor. I probably wouldn't be as harsh on this...if it wasn't $11 for a cup. The chowder was $9, btw. 4 out of 10, would not recommend. The steaks. Aah, here we go. This one's a bit complicated, folks. So, as per usual, wifey got a filet, I got a Delmonico (fancy pants epithet for a rib eye). Let's talk about this filet: apparently, the temperature on the inside was a perfect medium, despite the outside edges being clearly burnt. I mean, that's amazing! Like, I'm not even mad! Unfortunately, this steak (much like the Delmonico, which we'll get to in a minute) was criminally under seasoned. I dunno if we're just weirdos who like our steaks saltier than everyone else in this state. But we seem to keep running into this problem every single time we order steak up here. Now, here's the strange part. Despite the seasoning issue, these were actually the best steaks we've eaten since arriving in NH (so far). Because if I can switch gears to the Delmonico right-quick, that steak was juicy, buttery and tender as all heaven! It's a real shame, too...considering you got this perfectly cooked steak mid-rare, melts in your mouth, topped off with truffle butter (which is an add-on, btw)....and the only thing it needed was salt. I think some chefs under estimate the power of a simple salt and pepper combination. My final thoughts of the whole thing? The filet would be like a 6 out of 10. The Delmonico...I'll give it a 7. It was good...but I'm a bit disheartened that it could have been great, yet wasn't. Look, I know I sound really harsh here. The thing is, this is supposed to be a fine dining restaurant. So naturally, I tend to grade the food on that scale. The bottom line: if you're paying 50 bucks for steak, that steak....better taste like 50 bucks worth. But at least these entrées come with sides. Side note: the mashed potatoes were pretty damn good. Creamy, savory...still needed salt though. Anyone detect a pattern here? Again, since this was Mother's day, I can give the spotty service a pass because obviously, they were wicked busy. Even though there were times we waited as long as 20 minutes between table visits to get something as simple as a drink refill or salt (which they bring to you in a fancy pants dish). If we were in the neighborhood, we would *probably* come back. But I don't see this as a place I would go out of my way to visit again. The parking lot entrances are weird and the location is kinda cramp. Ultimately though, it was an okay Mother's day treat for the misses and I'm glad it didn't completely suck. The food was great, the front door hostesses were very outgoing;, the bartenders were very friendly and provided good service. Once at our dinner table, Server Matt C rushed us to order, he was so unfriendly and made us all feel uncomfortable. He just wanted us in and out. He ruined our yearly experience.
