Ok I love this place. I'm ecstatic to have vegan fast food and I realllllly want to support fellow vegan restaurants. I'm not kidding though.... I have been in the drive thru for 40+ minutes and I'm still waiting on food. I'm not exaggerating. FORTY MINUTES and counting in a drive thru that had 4 cars in front of me. Evolution Slow Food. I'd like to preface this by saying that their food is great. That being said, in no universe should this be considered fast food. Last time I went there, there were three cars in front of us-and it took us 25 minutes to get to the window. After that, it took us 25 minutes to get our food. This isn't an isolated incident; despite how much we like the food, we always end up waiting for far longer than we think we should. The previous time we dined here, the wait was 45 minutes. Before that, also 45 minutes. For a "fast" food place, the turnaround is incredibly slow. Next time I will call ahead to place my order in advance. read more

Good portions! Love it. The black bean and "beefy" burger patties are both flavorful and are a pretty hefty size. I had the bacon cheeseburger. The seitan bacon was surprisingly good! The "cheese" inside was also great, it was stretchy and creamy just like real cheese. I had it with the black bean patty which was very tasty and filling. I did have to order the gluten free bun though , which I have to say wasn't that good- it's pretty dry and crumbly, but can't do much about it, I'm just glad they have the gluten free option anyway! They have go-to wraps, salads, desserts and a water station you serve yourself with. The seating isn't the greatest and it's not the cutest location. The patio hidden in the back is like someone's dusty backyard bungalow. Oh well, most people seem to take it to go anyway. read more

It kind of pains me to give this place three stars because not only do I support what they stand for, but I also really appreciate how they are making moves to making vegan food more easily accessible to people. They have a walk in counter with really nice outdoor seating, and they also have a drive-thru which is something I have never seen at a vegan restaurant before. They also have a lot of options that I was really impressed with that were not only vegan but some of them also raw. I was really craving a burger, which is actually what we came here for, so that's what I got. I ordered that and some sweet potato fries to try. The food came out pretty quickly and then we went and sat on the nice outdoor patio. The burger was good and the fries were amazing. Overall, I really enjoyed my experience here and I would love to try more of their options, but the reason I had to give it three stars instead of four was because about ten minutes after I finished eating I started to feel really sick. I felt nauseous the rest of the day and couldn't think of anything else I had eaten that would have made me feel sick. Since it was also immediately after I finished eating I couldn't help but think that it was their food. I'm not sure what didn't agree with me but I don't know if I could bring myself to go back and try something else remembering how I felt. Firsttime here.. fries were cold when i recieved them.. chili cheesse fries were gross. The honey mustard n chili just dont make sense. My hubby got thr California burrito. French fries here were amazing! The greens juice was very tasty and my two year old devoured it. The burgers were just ok. I've had really bad black bean burgers and amazing and here they are just ok. The temph cheeseburger was a little tastier then the black bean burger. I'm excited to try some of the other items on the menu though. They have tons of options so hopefully next time I can find something that taste a little better. I got the iced tea greens juice temph cheeseburger and black bean burger with fries for $26 dollars. Overall who doesn't love a fast food vegan place we need more of these. read more

WOW!!!!! That was amazing. I was visiting from kauai , I was really excited to try this place after reading about it online , I was not disappointed. We don't have very many vegan spots on Kauai and definitely not a fast food spot. I couldn't believe how good it was . Had the evo burger with the beef patty with chicken tenders which were mind blowing with the honey mustard dip . Went back the next day for the California burrito with the chicken tenders again AMAZING!!!!! Had a friend with me that was not vegan and he was blown away on how good the food was, he had the chicken sandwich with the sweet potato fries so GOOD!! Will be back soon for sure read more

Best vegan food for the price! There seems to be lots of new vegan places popping up or restaurants that have vegan items but they are all so pricey. It's nice to be able to come here where I can get the same food that a lot of the other expensive places serve but for $5 to $10 cheaper! Definitely expect to wait for your food, this is fast food the same way that in and out is, it's fresh fast. The good news is that they have a nice patio to sit at while you wait and they also have a drive-thru if you prefer to sit in the comfort of your own car. Alternatively, if you don't like to wait they do have a nice grab-and-go fridge with wraps. My favorite wrap is the Chipotle lime chicken! My mouth is watering just typing those words. If you get it, make sure to heat it up before you eat it makes it so much better! The staff is always polite and helpful and I've never eaten anything here that I didn't like. My favorites include their buffalo tenders and the South of the Border Burger. With any Burger you order, you have the choice of three different types of patties, Tempe, black bean, or an artisan beef patty. They also have some items that aren't on the menu, offered as specials but you can order them anytime. My favorite off menu item is the animal fries! I love Evolution fast food and I wish they would open more locations in San Diego! read more

Sooo delicious vegan food!!! My first time coming here and I think I will become a regular. I tried their carne asada fries and omgggg! Let me tell u they were on point they were so surprisingly delicious! In my opinion better than the actual meat ones. I also had the soft serve and the coconut pie, both delicious as well. The only thing that I would say something negative about is the wait time, it did take about 15 mins for our order to be ready, although they do make everything to order it is still quite a wait, they are definitely under staffed. Parking can be a challenge since the parking lot of fairly small but there is street parking. Although I was unsatisfied with the wait time, I can honestly say they have so many delicious options and I will definitely be going a lot more often for amazing vegan food read more

Unfortunately after many years of eating at Evolution I found out that it is not all Organic and as such can be very unhealthy vegan food.

I finally tried this place-two days in a row. I will continue to come back. It's different than I imagined- it's counter service and there is some sort of drive through service (but like everyone else, they need to wait patiently for their food (which does not come as fast-food pace, but instead at a reasonable time to prepare it). The food options are similar to a fast food place: burgers, fries, chicken strips- all vegan. But they also have soups (I like the Curry soup), chili, and their famous (if it's not it should be) California burrito. This (with Tapatillo) tasted so much like a carne asada burrito! I had the burger (black bean) with jalapeños. It was very good. I also tried the chili and dipped my fries in it. My only complaint was that the soups were not warm enough. I don't need them piping hot, but they were barely lukewarm. I also enjoyed their selection of teas and fresh lemonade. If you want to stay and eat, there's a patio in back. It's nothing fancy but it's clean. But be prepared to be shooing flies away. Prices were higher than fast food (7-8 bucks for a burger) but very reasonable for a healthy alternative. read more

I found this place by accident, just walking out from extraordinary desserts the other day. I already eaten there twice and have to tell you will definitely come back again! First time I had a plain burger, which cost 6.25 plus tax. There 3 different options for burger patty, I chose tempeh and was really pleased with it!!!! Great burger!!! The second time I had south of the border burger, I chose the same (tempeh) patty, was really happy with the food again!!! First of all the prices are great, second - bunch of veggies thrown in a burger, which makes me happy!!! Staff always friendly 100%!!!! I will definitely work my way through all menu items. Tried the fuevo burger with cheese on the side. I like the pico and fuac burger better. Also, forgot to ask for the whole wheat bun. So, ended up with default white bun:(. Also tried the Carob date smoothie. Liked the strawberry one better as the carob date was not blended well. Plus the straw That was provided to me, was not wide enough. A piece of date seed got stuck in it and I couldn't suck up most is my shake after that. Think they should provide BIGGER circumference straws. However, it was also good I didn't get a larger straw or I could have choked on the date seed. They really should check the dates before they put it into the blender. Freedom from the post-grub lethargy alas!! Boy did I not know what to expect. Yes, everything they serve is 100% free of any animal products. (I was that guy that had to ask to be sure) Again, despite its name, the "Artisan Beef" burger patty is animal-free. While most of the menu sounded quite appetizing, I went for the mushroom swiss burger and was extremely happy with it. Note again, the swiss cheese is not traditional swiss, but a vegan friendly alternative which despite it's very different texture, definitely compliments the burger as a whole. I asked the friendly dude taking my order for his recommendation on patty choice and he was very quick to suggest the black bean patty. "most flavor" he mentioned with a subtle nod. I'd have to agree. I've been craving round 2 since. Finished off with an Old-fashioned chocolate milkshake (again I was 'that guy' that had to be 100% sure it was dairy free), which was a treat beyond words. If you're any measure of intolerant to dairy, trust me, you'll be glad you gave this (oat derived) milkshake a chance!! My boyfriend and I are staying in San Diego for the weekend. I'm a vegetarian but also don't eat cheese/ drink milk. We were starving and I couldn't find any place that caught my attention. That's when I stumbled upon Evolution. I'm a sucker for a good burger and fries, it was 15 mins from our hotel so I said why not! Finding the place wasn't hard, but the parking lot is tiny! There was no open spot, and the inside looked busy as well. Thankfully they have a drive thru, not going to lie the wait was long. Like 15 mins waiting to place our order, and then another 15 waiting for our food. BUT- totally worth it. I had the EVO burger with the "beef" patty, a side of fries, and the hibiscus tea. This place has very bad customer service. They sound like robots almost. I myself and am in the customer service world and if I spoke to a customer and gave them the wrong order over and over and over again I would just quit because I wouldn't be able to follow basic order taking. I have worked in the food industry before and it's not that hard. Also the way they talk to you sounds like they hate being there. Seriously they suck. I've eaten at Evolution about four times now. I've never been disappointed with their cuisine; each time it's been pure deliciousness. My last visit, however, had a slightly odd component to it though. But nothing enough to knock the 4 stars down to 3. After ordering, we went outside to wait thinking we'd hear our order number called out. So we sat and sat eventually realizing we needed to be inside to hear our order called. No problem, our mistake. But what was odd is that when we went back inside and inquired about our order, the guy, who we believe was the cook, came out without our food and had a brief discussion with us. Then he went back and got our food. That was odd. Why didn't he or someone else just bring us our food? We weren't putting the blame on anyone but ourselves; we certainly didn't need or ask for an explanation. Just bring us our food... it's delicious! This is part of a series of reviews that I should have done when I lived in California. I moved away to Chicago last year, but I can still write this brief review: Evolution Fast Food is great. Everything is vegan, and there are so many options. I've had the "cheeseburger", the buffalo "chicken" sandwich and a couple other things. Everything was really good. If I had lived closer to San Diego I would have gone there more often. The place has a couple of outdoor areas to enjoy your 100% plant-based meal. I did say slightly :) Service is quick and that's taking into consideration that the food isn't based on cooking with a deep fryer. I really like the drive thru. I know.....lazy. To date I've had the honey mustard chicken wrap and the mushroom Swiss black bean burger with sweet potato chips. My wrap was good. Filled with tasty chicken, fresh lettuce, tomatoes, a tasty honey mustard and wrapped with a wheat tortilla. The burger was really yummy considering there was no meat between the buns. I wouldn't hesitate ordering again. This is all coming from a person that prefers pizza, burgers, tacos and burritos. Well I'd prefer sushi overall but you get the point I'm trying to make.
