This place has amazing food, and it's in a great location. The patio seating is lovely, too. The black bean cheeseburger is my favorite, followed closely by the crispy chikn sandwich, which has the SoCal burrito in a close third. Honestly, there's no bad food here. The only reason I hesitated to give it 5 stars is because they are often very slow (which could be seen as good - it's always nice to see a local business turning a nice profit) and I regularly get home with an order that has some little thing wrong with it. The fast food here is solid. Sweet Potatoe Fries are good, but not entirely consistently fried. More simply, some pieces are soft, soft, soft, and some pieces are crunchy, crunchy, chippy. Their Chipotle Chicken Sandwich is pretty good for a non-meat burger. Being the meat-whore I am, I had low expectations. Even so, the fried textured protein was everything beyond my wildest dreams. There are some complaints about the price in reviews; under normal circumstances, I would agree that 8.50 for a chicken sandwich and some sweet potato fries is just over the top. But there is simply no way to reduce the prices. The cost of being organic and vegan is simply really high. A lot of their homemade stuff requires more man power (and therefore, wages) than if they just buy the already-made goods from wholesale food distributors. The only thing they could really cut back on are the workers there during business hours. I've seen times where there were more workers than customers, and that's simply not necessary. But I digress...Nature's Express is pretty good, but I'll need to have more different foods from them for a more complete review. read more

I also tried some of the chicken salad sandwich which was decent but I would say far fro healthy. They saying is healthier fast food but I doubt it really is. DELICIOUSSSSS food! Had the salad bar/portabello mushroom burger and the boca burger with guac and jalepenos. LOVE the drive through concept, so unique and needed in this world. Expand the menu, get rid of the cafeteria like feeling of the table and chairs/salad bar layout. It's such an awesome space and they just aren't using it right, inside or out. Get rid of the snooty, unfriendly, staff and this place could be fantastic. Or just train them to be more approachable and learn the concept of customer service. So I was reluctant to try this place until I had a friend who is the biggest meat eat ever tell me it was delicious! So off in my car I went... I have only ever used the drive thru and have tried almost every burger and they are all amazing!! The pesto burger has to hands down be the best. If they sold that pesto I would buy a giant vat of it and would put it on everything I ate. I like their regular fries the best, I am just not a huge sweet potato fan. Sometimes it takes 5 mins and sometimes 20 mins with no one around but it is well worth the wait . I'm happy to see a Vegan place in Bankers hill, but I wish this place felt more welcoming and friendly. The best thing I can say about Evolution is that they use biodegradable to go containers and have the option of reusable plates when dining in. I got a small little container (probably 12oz or so with soyrizo scramble) for $3.25. The food here is mediocre and unless you are planning to eat a very large meal (which I was not) then it's a bit overpriced. [see others reviews for pricing]. If want good vegan/vegitarian food, I will probably not return here- instead I will go to Whole Foods or Loving Hut. The energy at this place seems rather cold. Those were my thoughts prior to returning to our vehicle with food in hand. My friend who drove us has a truck, and it wasn't possible to park in the marked spaces (very small and if we parked in them, then we would block the driveway). So, we parked sideways. When we returned to the truck, one of the employees had left a note on the car reading "you are not worth 3 spots?!" There were plenty of other spaces available for people to park and we were only inside less than 5 minutes. I would give 1 or 2 stars for the customer service (or blatant lack of) and about 3.5 for the food and biodegradable containers. Unfortunately, I will not be bringing my business here anymore. I've had the bacon cheeseburger. It's pretty damn tasty. It definitely satisfied by burger craving. The "bacon" I will admit taste nor looks anything like actual bacon but it still recommend it. I recently dined here while visiting San Diego and boy am I glad I checked this place out. I began a meal with their "mushroom and swiss" burger and while it's been years since I've eaten meat, it blew my mind how much this tasted like I remember a burger tasting (had the place not been vegan, I would most certainly have asked to speak to the manager, convinced they had served me meat) *Note, this is their regular patty, not the house made black bean patty). A huge layer of sauteed mushrooms, lettuce, tomatoes, Daiya cheese and a healthy slathering of Vegenaise rounded out this delicious sandwich. I had been told the sweet potato fries with the homemade ketchup were not to be missed and let's be real: I have never been known to turn down a sweet potato fry. Evolution's were chip like in shape and texture and mouthwateringly good. I made sure to save room for dessert, and while the traditional soft serve machine was broken (and apparently features flavors like peanut butter), I did get to savor their raw soft serve, which they custom blended with bananas and cacao for me. Very good. Docking a star because I wish they had heat lamps in the outdoor dining area but will definitely be back. I wanted to like this more than I did. I had the swiss mushroom burger which was fine, but nothing particularly special. It could have used more "cheese" and sauce. Also had chili fries, which again, were tasty, but not anything to write home about. Still, I hope they open more locations - it's nice to have vegan and even raw options around to meet my dietary choice (vegan) and for a refreshing change of pace (raw - not a diet choice I subscribe to, but an enjoyable change from typical fare). First time to Evolution and as a disclaimer: I'm and omnivore that has vegan tendencies. I have driven by Evolution many times and I now lament not having stopped sooner. I grabbed a late lunch 2:20ish and ha my food in an easy 4 minutes. I ordered the raw burger (a bun-less house made dehydrated patty covered in a lite layer of hummus with the usual veggies wrapped in lettuce) and a Blue Sky Root Beer. The staff at the counter described the patty of the burger as a "bit granola like". It was, but with the hummus and natural veggie juices a sultry paste formed in my mouth causing me to question my omnivore life choices. While I sat at the counter I watched the staff serve waiting drive-thru customers (how awesome is that for vegan food!) with a wait of 5-7 minutes and walk-in with the same expediency as my meal. Parking! Well I got a premo spot in their lot, but watching from my spot at the counter I realized (at least this time of day during the week) that there was plenty of spots available in their lot. Even at the one point when it was nearly full, people came an went with a quick turn over (fast food right?). Don't fret the parking just be patient. It's well worth it. I would give 5 stars, but prices are a bit high. I paid $9.19 with tax. But I still feel great about what I had. Yes the sweets are expensive (4.95) a slice, but if they are anything like lunch well with it. Evolution looks just as a vegan restaurant ought to look. You won't be disappointed in that department. I was hooked by the Gardein based menu, and decided to give it a try. At the counter, as I tried not to pay attention to the strange kitchen area, I asked the friendly cashier what their best burger is. She recommended the southwestern burger, so I bit. My food was ready in 5 minutes, tops, and I dove in, unsure of what to expect. Very flavorful, interestingly textured and flavored bread, and a decent serving size. After buying out all of the Raw Thai Wraps from Mother's Market & Clark's I finally had the chance to try the food fresh from the source. I originally ordered a cheeseburger, but because we couldn't determine if the cheese was gluten free I went for the pesto burger instead. I loved the gluten free patty, but thought the bread was a bit dry (almost like biting into cardboard). I do appreciate the option, but wish they'd offer Udi's bread. The sweet potato fries were good and I actually liked the fact that they were chips. I tried them fresh, but preferred them after they cooled down & hardened a bit. The chocolate shake was my drink of choice this time. It tasted like a regular shake; even the consistency was right. The people were friendly & helpful. I have a ton of allergies & they completely made me feel at ease because of how confident they were regarding their ingredients. The girl that took my order even double checked items for me to ensure I would be okay. The downside is that the place is really small. There's a counter & outdoor seating. It was cold today & I don't recall seeing heaters, so I don't think it would be a place to go to if it's raining or cold unless ordering to go. Parking was in a small lot & drive through exists. The food was ready pretty fast even though I walked in to order. If it isn't fast enough they have ready to go snacks in a fridge area. I bought some tacos for lunch the following day. A good vegan sandwich shop at an ok price. I like Evolution a lot, but I think that I like the concept of vegan fast food more than the place itself. The prices are a little steep, but fresh produce is not cheap either, so it's understandable. Their chicken sandwich is very good, especially with the chipotle dressing. The french fries are awesome, and come in a big, grease stained bag reminiscent of 5 guys french fries. The sweet potato fries are also very good, although sometimes just a little undercooked. Their ketchup is AWESOME. They make it in house, and I absolutely love it. I wish they would bottle it and sell it. Or...they already do, and you guys didn't tell me. :( The black bean patty is tasty, and they serve a bacon cheeseburger that will satisfy your embarrassing carnivorous cravings. There is ample parking, and lots of concert flyers and stuff hanging outside to peruse while you're waiting for your food. Also, their juice and shake selection is wide, and interesting. Definitely a fan. My portobello sandwitch was very savory, not grainy, great sauce. The Buffalo chicken strips were so good, really authentic. The chipotle sauce had the prefect consistency and flavor. My wife got the jalapeño burger and I thought it was missing a little something but still really good. I want their desserts. This place is delicious!! We got the raw tacos, Thai tofu peanut wrap and the potato salad. It was hard to chose because everything looked delicious! The raw tacos are amazing! I had never had raw tacos anywhere but these will be hard to beat. They give you two in a box and I only ate one because they are super stuffed with "meat", veggies, guac and kale. The tofu wrap was really good and also very well stuffed. Potato salad was really good, creamy and the flavor was different. Prices are very good and they are super fast (hence fast food)...it's truly the In-n-out for vegans!!! I will definitely make this a regular place for me whenever I need food on the go!!! The employees are all pretty amazing as well. If you have a sweet tooth, the cookies and cupcakes are divine. The fries are a hit or miss. I come here all the time and I can't stop getting the buffalo chicken burger; if you're reading this, you HAVE to try it. They have such a diverse menu, there's something for everyone. The food takes a while, considering it's a 'fast' food place, but I mean it's definitely worth the wait. There's usually always parking if you want to eat inside as well.
