I have been a customer here @ Ewing SL for 40 years and in the irrigation (and Landscape) industry. My opinion may be biased, but you might gain some 'insider knowledge' on how to navigate Ewing San Leandro for your own personal interests. Ewing sells primarily to wholesale/industry geeks (like me), but they also do sell to the average joe(or Jill)-off-the-street. While they might not necessarily be able to personally guide you (holding your hand) to put together whatever irrigation project you're on, they are more than capable to recommend only the best and correct products to use if you're unsure. If you've done some prior homework on Youtube, etc, and you have a vague idea of what you want/need to do, the folks at Ewing can definitely help you on your way on the journey to successful project completion. This is not your Ace Hardware or Home Depot sprinkler aisle. They sell the 'Real Deal' here, and know their product lines inside and out. While I consider myself fairly knowledgeable, I will come across an issue that I am unable to resolve by my lonesome. There are in-house experts that 'I got Nothing' on, as far as an extremely deep product knowledge base. The key to Ewing is to have an idea of what you want to do and at least a vague idea of how to do it, but you need some guidance on which parts to use to put together your solution/system. All the major reputable industry brands are represented here: Toro, Rainbird, Irritrol, Hunter, to name a few. They will steer you to the correct item to fulfill your particular need(s). When you leave this establishment, you can rest assured that your purchase will be top-quality, and will 'do the job' as long as you have given the personnel enough information to assist you! I ordered some Basalite pavers from this company - overall I got my product when I asked for it so the experience was A-okay there were definitely a few issues along the way and bad communication. For example, received my quote and then pushed on getting it ordered, called back multiple times to find out the rep was on vacation and here I was chasing down my own order. The order got pushed through. I would probably go somewhere else if I had a choice or a similar product at a similar price. read more

Joe and the Ewing team were wonderfully helpful with our school garden project. As a group of volunteers, we installed a California Native Plant garden at a local elementary school. Joe helped me determine the best method to tie into the existing irrigation lines, what would be most "kid-proof," and also how to fix some of the bad work done by the contractor who installed the lines initially. Now our project will be sustainable for years to come. The Bluetooth-operated timer Joe recommended is really user-friendly, which means the landscaping will require less watering maintenance. Since this was a school project Joe gave us the contractor rate, which helped ensure our fundraised dollars went as far as possible. I will definitely be a repeat customer. read more

I'm remodeling my entire front yard which includes step lights in the new concrete. I purchased all the lights from another Ewing location but needed one more on a Saturday before they poured on Monday. I called the store to check stock about 30 min before closing at noon. I explained that I needed this ONE light but was about 35 min away. Luckily for me Joe said he'd wait to close up until I arrived. Thanks again Joe! You saved the day! read more

So I'm looking for a irrigation valve actuator and I walk into the retail store here. I'm greeted right away and I show the sales guy a picture of what I'm looking for and describe what it's for. He says he doesn't have the exact one I'm looking for but has something that may work. He brings it out and try's to get it to work. He struggles for a couple minutes then says he's going to ask someone for help. He disappears for a few minutes then comes back and is still trying to figure the thing out. After several minutes go by I ask him " so does it work?" He says " I'm not sure" then continues to keep looking at the item. After a few more minutes I say "so if this isn't going to work then I should just go, I don't want to waste my time" and after another minute or 2 I just walked out. He didn't try to stop me, didn't say a word! A total waste of time! Zero customer service and didn't know jack squat! read more

I couldn't get a simple question answered because the man who picked up the phone today kept interrupting me - if I don't exactly perfectly say the terms used inside the irrigation industry, don't give me a hard time! After stalling on a project for several months I finally went to Ewing (highly recommended by various sources) to get some irrigation supplies. Although I arrived near close of business (4:30pm) I never felt rushed or that I was putting these folks out with my questions and end of the day shopping. Both Zack and Joe were there, after explaining to them my project, showing them pictures and the supplies I currently had, they were able to show me exactly what I needed to get the job done. Super friendly and knowledgeable. They did not try to sell me tools and such that I did not need. In addition to all the landscaping and irrigation supplies, they have really cool lighting there too. Ewing Irrigation, San Leandro store, has the worst customer service that I have ever experienced in the 38 years I have been in the construction industry. My repeated phone calls to the store over the last three weeks to inquire as to the status of my order and delivery of material each time resulted in that a representative will check into the order and get back to me. Not once has a representative called back with the status of the order and I continue to make repeated home calls on a daily basis without the courtesy of a return phone call from Ewing Irrigation. Ewing Irrigation was quick to charge my credit card three weeks ago but have been extremely negligent in providing customer service, returning phone calls and delivering the material that was ordered. read more

Called them at 3:57 PM yesterday to let them know we were headed there to buy a part for our landscaper, but we may not arrive at their store until 4:59 PM according to our GPS so would it be possible for us to purchase over the phone and have them leave it outside (somewhere hidden) for us in case we got there after 5:00 PM. The guy who answered the phone was short with me. He flatly (on the verge of rudely) said, "No, we can't do that" but then implied that it would be possible to help if we had an account with them (we don't). Of course he didn't offer to open one for us. He also didn't think to ask us what we were buying (small price item) and check with a manager or even politely apologize for not being able to help. After being treated with disrespect like this (because I'm female?), I will order any irrigation parts we need now and in the future online from a different retailer. read more

Store employees are not helpful and are kind of rude. I had a couple of questions about irrigation materials that I intended to purchase. The employee rushed the purchased instead of providing an answer. A year ago I had a similar experience in the store. Bottom line - Go there only if you know your stuff. I have been living in San Leandro for decades now and I thought I knew of all the "hidden treasure spots" for hardware stuff. I had been looking for, what I believed was, a discontinued Champion sprinkler bleed screw. I reached at all the usual places and never came near what I needed. I work for a major Northern California utility company and one of my fellow co-workers mentioned Ewing Irrigation. I said, "what??" He mentioned to me that if no one else has it, there's a good chance Ewing does. Well, whadda you think happened? They had the part and more info than I expected to get. You step into this place and you feel you've gone back in time because of the good old fashion, friendly hometown atmosphere. The employee named Zach that helped me, knew exactly what I was looking for and found the exact part with no problem. He was very respectful and patient with me. Don't waste your time going to the "big" hardware stores. Just stop here and get all you need. read more
