I had high hopes for this store and I think they're still going through their "growing pain"…read morebecause I went to their soft opening, and the workers at the time, were very friendly and helpful. I went in last week to pick up an online order and oh my what a 180º difference. The current workers are not the same as the ones I saw during the soft opening. I go up to counter to tell them I'm there to pick up my online order. Since it was a larger item it was in the back. One of the workers, on the headphone mics, tells someone in the back/storage area to bring out my order. I think all is good and I will be getting my order. That wasn't the case. After a 2-3 minutes the person in the back calls back to ask what are they were look for, and the counter person tell them what it is and the specific item. After about 5 minutes the person from the back comes up to the front to personally ask, again, what are they were looking for. And I tell her along with the counter person (that's 4 times so far) what the item is. After waiting about 10 minutes the person finally brings out my order. Even thought this San Leandro location is more convenient for me I will go to the one in Castro Valley since they know what they are doing. The workers at San Leandro need more training and/or hire more experienced people. The current ones look like they're still in high school or just started college and haven't learned the concept of customer service. I might go in a few months to see if it has improved.

Ewing sells primarily to wholesale/industry geeks (like me), but they also do sell to the average joe(or Jill)-off-the-street. While they might not necessarily be able to personally guide you (holding your hand) to put together whatever irrigation project you're on, they are more than capable to recommend only the best and correct products to use if you're unsure. If you've done some prior homework on Youtube, etc, and you have a vague idea of what you want/need to do, the folks at Ewing can definitely help you on your way on the journey to successful project completion. This is not your Ace Hardware or Home Depot sprinkler aisle. They sell the 'Real Deal' here, and know their product lines inside and out. While I consider myself fairly knowledgeable, I will come across an issue that I am unable to resolve by my lonesome. There are in-house experts that 'I got Nothing' on, as far as an extremely deep product knowledge base. The key to Ewing is to have an idea of what you want to do and at least a vague idea of how to do it, but you need some guidance on which parts to use to put together your solution/system. All the major reputable industry brands are represented here: Toro, Rainbird, Irritrol, Hunter, to name a few. They will steer you to the correct item to fulfill your particular need(s). When you leave this establishment, you can rest assured that your purchase will be top-quality, and will 'do the job' as long as you have given the personnel enough information to assist you!
