We hired Exact Electric for a complete rewiring of our house almost a year ago and we're still waiting for them to remove the old outside parts. To update, the job has been completed. To their credit, this company has an excellent office manager, Jasmine, who returns emails and calls immediately. They do care about pleasing their clients and when the job is finished, you will be very satisfied. Another update: I called Exact Electric to install electrical grounding after the system was disconnected when plumbers replaced old pipes. I quickly received a call from Manager Eric who came over to plan for the job and explain what needed to be done. He didn't charge me anything for the inspection. Within a week, Tom, a top-notch Journeyman, came out to resplice the GEC system insuring complete grounding of our electricity circuits. I needed a 240 volt, 50 amp circuit installed to supply a new outdoor hot tub. I tried to get an estimate from this company, which every other company does for free. This company would only even estimate my project if I paid them A MINIMUM of 4 hours at $140 an hour! Ridiculous. So basically they want me to provide them with a blank check to do the work. I'm VERY glad to have had that recommendation because Exact Electric's guy who came to do our job was outstanding! Ours was a complicated installation of a high voltage line from our breaker to the site of the new stove and required multiple trips up into our attic. He got the job done and, since we had him there, we also had him install a new ceiling light and our new Ring doorbell. All the jobs were done perfectly. However when I called them this morning I was told that that they focus primarily on commercial and don't really do quotes for residential. Exact came highly referred by our landscape installation company. The scheduling was easy and the electrician did good work but he was so very slow. 2 full days was excessive for the work. Replacing 5 basic Home Depot outdoor lights (no new wiring) and installing 2 new outdoor lights on my garage (new wiring into established garage wiring with a photo sensor) took 13 hours. In addition I had the electrician sleuth an issue with a can light that ended up taking 3 hours to learn there was no solution without tearing open the ceiling! So the end result was too much time for what I expected. The outdoor lights look fine/good but I think about the unexpected cost each time I look at them. I would have appreciated a heads up when the electrician noticed things might take this long. Doing estimates ahead or during the work itself would also help set expectations. When I checked in with him during the day, he just said a few things about what he was doing and didn't indicate there were unique circumstances. On the afternoon of 2 when I saw how long this was taking I contacted the office and asked for someone to review the work and timing before invoicing. I don't think anyone looked it over although I was sent a detailed summary of the work and charges. I know electricians are highly skilled and when you need them you really need them but had no idea the final cost would be so high. 3 stars for the work completed and 3 stars for the pace and limited communication of expectations. read more

A few years ago I contracted Exact Electric to do complete rewire of our house. They took longer than expected, but overall they were fine. The main electrician on the job had forgotten to renew his license, so work had to stop for a couple of weeks. The City's inspector had to come a few times because he was not satisfied. Today I found out that some of the work was not done correctly. This was a disappointment. If you look at the photo, and you know something about electrical wires, you'll see that not all wires were replaced (as was promised). It's a shame. I liked the company. read more

Overall, Exact Electric was great. Their pricing was super reasonable, they worked quickly and got our project done fast and under budget. They fell a little short on communication. Before they came out, we were told the office would call us back to confirm the date they'd arrive. We did not get a call and their arrival was a bit of a surprise. We were also told that they'd be here during the inspection and that they'd call us and let us know when that would be. An inspector showed up unannounced, but luckily we were WFH and able to walk him through what had been done. That being said, I would definitely use Exact Electric again! read more

Cannot recommend Exact Electric, we feel like we've been scammed and overbilled. I needed two GFCI outlets wired in our easy to access attic that already had powered boxes in the locations needed, we just wanted the outlets wired. We also wanted an exterior outlet added, and already had an energized line plumbed to the location and we provided our own exterior box. It was an easy project that should have taken less than three hours on a bad day (verified by a second electrician after the work was performed). I was told it'd be fast and no trouble at all over the phone. The day of our service appointment came, and the electrician arrived an hour late. No big deal, I'd planned to work from home that morning and wasn't in any particular hurry. But then we started running into trouble. The electrician was moving very slowly, with just shy of a dozen trips back and forth to his van. He didn't wire the outlets where I told him to, and so, the security camera power cables would not reach (he didn't put them where I'd already pre-measured, and didn't measure on his own) so he had to then re-mount and re-wire both outlets in the attic. This took over four hours. For two outlets with energized boxes right there. I came up to the attic to check on him several times and found him on his phone. Back and forth up the ladder multiple times... for two outlets (and I later noted he didn't use the GFCI outlets that I requested). The exterior work also took far longer than it should have. All that was needed was for the box to be mounted to the house and connected. We provided the materials needed and an energized line was run in PVC directly to the location prior to the electricians arrival. That took an additional hour and a half. All said and done, they charged us $764.46 total for what should have been less than 3 hours of work any way you looked at it. I immediately responded to the invoice via e-mail giving them a chance to make it right. They responded by cutting the project time from 6.5 hours to 3.5 hours (they didn't even argue), but when I looked, they'd changed the rate from $95 per hour to $150 per hour... leaving our now total at $602.80. When I asked that this be changed to the original rate given our trouble, I was told that is what it was going to be and that they'd forgot to add cost for materials (for the non-GFCI outlets I didn't ask for in the first place). I know that contractors come at a premium right now in Seattle, but if you need help, you can do better. Exact Electric overbills and we feel like they tried to pull one over on us. Unfortunate, given I'd hired them for this small project prior to using them commercially. We paid for our $602.80 outlets and consider it a lesson learned, we won't be back. read more

Finally, the story ends. It took 5 visits, multiple fixes on top of fixes, and a job that still does not match the quote, but the inspection finally passed (with changes to the permit to say they are ignoring part of the installation since it was not in scope). To be clear: this was a simple panel swap on a garage with exposed wires (as easy to reach / access / see as they come). The last electrician that came actually used the line "The city of Seattle used to be pretty relaxed. Not anymore.". Considering the problems in question could be fire hazzards i was really not happy in hearing this downplaying of the problems. Either way... I asked a rebate on the work provided given the amount of time i had to take off work for the multiple back and forths and was given a tiny one for the one (and only 1) extra piece of work i asked (split a circuit into 2) - which is why im keeping with my 2 stars review instead of flat out giving 1. I will not be using exact again in the future and, as previously written, highly recommend folks to stay away. read more

If I had looked into my magic eight ball of a future several miserable years ago, I never would've guessed that an electrical contractor would be worthy of a 5-star review on Yelp, or that I'd be flaunting my sad nerdom to the world by giving an electrical contractor a Yelp review. In an industry where the customer is given a mystery estimate over the phone ($$$/ for the first hour then $$ for every quarter hour after that, and the length of the job can be anywhere from 15 minutes to several days), Zach showed his professionalism by coming to the job site, going through everything in painstaking detail, then offering a detailed estimate that didn't increase after the job was done. Being a Master of Disaster, I have what is known as a disaster of an old house, complete with two-pronged outlets, exposed ugly conduits on the ceiling, fluorescent lighting, and little gnomes living inside the walls. These are different from the gnomes I usually date, as the house gnomes' job is to cause temporary power fluctuations and weird sounds, like the house has just ingested a 12 oz steak, a bacon-cheddar smothered baked potato and a pound of laxatives and is about to blow a big one. The electrician's job was to remove some of the outlets that no longer worked, rewire others to safety codes, and remove the ceiling conduits. I had contacted the obligatory three companies to obtain bids and Zach appeared the most professional. And by professional, I mean a serious clip board with serious picture taking of all the problem areas. He then gave me the bid when he said he would AND his price was the most reasonable out of all of them. On the day of, Zach arrived with another worker, got the job done efficiently and left no garbage around and only very discrete holes in the wall (which are much more discrete than the ones I already had). The bill came a little later - almost a month later (and I'd paid no deposit) - and customers are given the choice to pay online by a very efficient payment system. And yesterday I EVEN GOT A THANK YOU CARD FROM EXACT ELECTRIC for giving them the job. Besides my dentist, who sends me holiday and birthday cards, nobody else even acknowledges my existence in this way. Hurry now. Go home and plug about 20 high-voltage electrical appliances into one socket with multiple extension cords, blow out your electrical panel, then call Zach. Like me, he'll think you're an idiot for doing so, but he'll be glad for the business. read more

The work was estimated "not over $100" on the phone, but the service guy came, fixed the problem, however, he did not have an additional switch plate with him at the moments so he called and let me know that he'll be there in 4 days to attach a switch plate!!! I told him repeatedly that I can do that myself by simply going to a hardware store and buy one for $2. He insisted that he should do it himself and its no bother. Top three things about Exact: their open communication, them working hard without having to be constantly followed up with/babysat, and their quality of work. It is a safety issue because it's dark in the morning when we leave and dark at night when we get home. An appointment was promptly scheduled, and I sent images of the fixture and the solar panel to ensure all the information was conveyed correctly. They arrived on time for the appointment and had all of the parts needed to fix the problem within an hour. The invoice was very detailed showing the charges for the parts and charge for labor. It was within the price we expected for prompt service and commercial parts. We had 4 lights and ceiling fan to reinstall after doing some soundproofing of our ceiling, which also dropped the ceiling an extra inch. We found another reputable electrician online. They came out and for some reason couldn't figure out how to reinstall everything. 4 hours later we told them to go home. After reading reviews we called Exact. It took about a month for our appointment because they are so busy, but when the did come their electrician handled the whole project seamlessly. While it took a while to get the appointment, it was well worth the wait. They've got my business for sure. read more

Since buying a new (read: century old) house in Ballard last year we have upgraded the electrical service to the house and wired our shed out back. On a friend's recommendation, we used Exact Electric for both projects and have been completely satisfied. Exact's bids for both projects were as low or lower than any other we got, but the deciding point for us was the good reviews we'd heard about their work. They were responsive and helpful to us in figuring out what we needed to do for the project. They were also easy to scheduled, showed up on time and finished on time. It's amazing how important those things are and how hard it can be sometimes to find. For both projects the work was done well and kept very tidy, with little extra cleanup or patching left for us to do afterward. Afterward I learned that our neighbor a couple houses down - a respected contractor - also uses and recommends Exact when he needs an electrician. Efficient. Courteous. Quick response to an uncomfortably weird electrical problem. Last night we lost power in half the house. Scary because none of the breakers were tripped! I have a number of friends in construction and home and interior design and had heard good things about Exact Electric from them. This morning at breakfast with friends I mentioned my power woes and one of them said "call Exact Electric." An hour later Zach himself came by, dug around in our very full, very old panel, and found a loose neutral wire behind one of the breakers that had been slowly scorching till it finally failed. Again, scary! Glad he came. Glad he found the problem. Really glad he fixed it! The dispatcher I called was courteous and prompt. I was impressed that when his other crews were in the field the owner himself was concerned enough about my description of the situation that he came out himself. So add me to the list of people with very nice things to say about the company, the service, and the owner. I have to admit I've tended to rely on sort of cheapo brother-in-law-of-a-friend type electricians (and "electricians") in the past. And got the results I should have expected -- and fortunately didn't end up with a house fire. This company came highly recommended to me by another electrician who was booked at the time we needed service. I contacted them along with a couple dozen other electrical contractors, and Exact were among the first to respond. Jasmine, who works in Operations, was incredibly responsive via email even during the holiday period - that made for a great first impression. She was able to get me scheduled for the morning after Christmas - a near miracle considering all the other contractors who got back to me were unwilling or unable to take on a new project at this time. As for the project - we bought an outdoor barrel sauna that required the heater being hard-wired to its own breaker. Jasmine requested all the heater manuals and sauna installation guides over email in advance, and was able to get me an estimate without the inconvenience of an onsite visit. This also impressed me, as I believe that with adequate info and photos of the site a visit shouldn't be necessary for a project of this kind. Our home is pre-wired for a hottub, and there's an outdoor box with available slots for breakers within feet of the sauna location, so this was a pretty simple project for a skilled electrician. The Exact tech showed up precisely on time the morning after Christmas, as expected. He was polite and professional. The job took about 4-5 hours total. Unfortunately the heater wasn't reaching peak temperature after the tech left, and we later learned that some mistakes had been made on both ends - the wires going into the breaker and the wires connecting to the terminal within the heater. However, I am not docking any stars from Exact for this. One, because everyone makes mistakes sometimes, we're all human and the world would be a better place if we could all be a bit more forgiving with one another. Two, because as soon as I flagged the issue to Exact, the manager of their residential business (Eric) called me directly to troubleshoot. He sent a different tech out the SAME DAY to inspect the wiring - and this tech quickly identified the issue and corrected it that day. He even stuck around until the sauna got to the right temp - this was extremely great service, especially considering this was New Years Eve (thank you Kyle!!). We were not charged for any of this additional time as they took responsibility for the issues without any argument on my part. I wish more businesses operated with this level of integrity! All in all it was a fantastic customer service experience. Our sauna is fully operational now, months in advance of when any other electrical contractor could have done the job. I will be turning first to Exact Electric for all our future electrical needs, and strongly recommend them to anyone looking for a great electrician.
