I'm not happy with the marketing practices of Excalibur. Heritage installed my garage door. I'm happy with Heritage. So where does Excalibur enter this picture? The marketing geniuses at Excalibur defaced my property by adhering a bright colored sticker to the inside of my garage door's control box. Let's review: Heritage is responsible for my door. If I'm calling anyone for help, it's Heritage. Excalibur NEVER asked to adhere a sticker to my property. We discovered them when a neighbor chased them down and alerted us. They tagged our whole neighborhood. That's rude at best. It's vandalism at worse. I don't care how great your service is, your presumptuous marketing practices lost this customer. Update 3/31/15: I received a lengthy email plea from Excalibur to remove this review. In the plea, Exclaibur: * placed blame on a high school kid hired to do the canvassing. Claiming canvasser took it upon himself to adhere the stickers. * claimed Heritage didn't respond to emergency calls , and he would have to respond to their calls. * claimed this review was crushing his business. This was one of the worst experiences I've had since purchasing my home. I called their service because I was having difficulty with my remote. Dave the technician came out and immediately told me I needed a whole new garage door motor. I didn't think anything of it since he's the pro. As soon as he left the problems began. The garage door wouldn't close and when I tried to call him before he was too far away he said he would come the next day. Bad experience with this company. I called Excalibur garage door repair cause I needed a new weather vinyl seal and a new garage remote. My garage door worked smoothly prior to him coming out so I figured it was a quick fix. The technician told me it was a $65 fee just to come out. I said fine. The technician Dave arrived and proceeded to tell me all the things wrong with my garage door. First it was the the cracked hinges. He recommended I replace them so I agreed. He didn't have a new weather seal, so I ran out to Home Depot to purchase the 8 foot long strip of weather seal. The weather seals he had looked old, discolored and warped. I Came back from Home Depot 20 minutes later with the new seal. He installed it over the old one, but it looked good. Dave then said my opener was old and needed replacing, but since it worked fine I didn't see the need. He then proceeded to tell me that my springs needed tightening and he highly recommended I do it. So I trusted him and he did tighten them. After he tightened them the garage door made a terrible noise when going up and down! Mind you, it did not make this sound prior to the springs being tightened. When I asked him what happened, his reply was " lady, I told you you needed a new opener!" He caused a problem where there was none and then he wanted to blame it on me? When I told him that he caused the problem, he started yelling at me. At the end I was so frustrated, I just wanted him to leave!!! I paid a whopping $280 and my garage door sounds terrible! I was shown what part was thrashed on my opener (a nylon gear), and it was fixed on the spot very quickly. Since the opener was old, I was anticipating having to buy a new one. I called Dave after my brother-in-law, his friend, and a friend of mine couldn't figure out why the garage door stopped opening when it was working fine the same week. I called Saturday morning and Dave showed up later that same day. The old garage door opener had a bad board that is difficult to find to replace, so I opted for installation of a whole new garage door opener with new rails and new wiring. He even helped me program the home link garage door button on my car. The service is professional and at an affordable price. I needed to get additional garage door openers made and their info was in my garage so I called them (after calling a few other places as well). Their quote was better. The service guy came out and he was cool. Seemed to know exactly what he was doing and even gave me used openers instead of making me get new openers (partially cause the one I already had was ancient and would require more work for new ones). And used/cheap is what I wanted as they were only additional ones. He stated that they weren't covered by any warranty, but should be fine. He couldn't vouch for the batteries though as he wasn't sure how old they were. Fine by me. Well, the next day my original opener and one of the copies (identical model) stopped working. The 3rd (different model) opener still worked so we used it while I bought new batteries for the original and copy. The original kind of works now - meaning it doesn't work quite as well as it used to, but the one I received from them doesn't work at all. Oh, and he lubed up my door so it doesn't squeak as much; that was cool of him. Now the main reason they're down to 3 stars is because I called to see if there was anything they/I could do. I wasn't expecting a refund on the one (though that would have been nice), nor was I calling to rip into anyone. I just wanted to know if they need to be restarted after a battery change, if there was a setting I could tweak, or even if opening it up and messing with the circuit board connections could help. But I never heard back from them. So who knows. Left a message about a week ago. Hm. However, this time he sent someone out named "Luis" who first tried to tell me the minimum charge for the service call was $95 when Dave had quoted me $65 over the phone. Then, after spending less than 15 minutes working on my garage door, Luis expected me to pay $275. This is over $1,000 an hour!! I complained to Dave and we settled on $150 for the work (no parts - just some grease and realigning the cable). This still seems like a lot but I will say they responded promptly and it was a Sunday,. Needless to say, this senior citizen would probably not call this company again. read more

But he kept telling me how terrible my old genie was and I really needed the lift master and the screw drive was the best, which I think use to be but now if you review openers screw drives are not even in the conversation really anymore it's belt drives.. So I sad ok, I thought his price was a little high but if you try and get multiple quotes your $65 OR $85 dollar quotes it takes your price right up.. So he charged me $600 DOLLARS for a screw drive that isn't even the way to go anymore.. So after he left I called a couple places and got quotes For $320 ALL SAID AND DONE!!! Another for $350!!!!!! Had the worst experience ever. These guys are anything but honest. The technician falsely advised to replace what he prescribed a faulty part in the garage opener and after he left a couple hours garage door started acting up again. When my wife called back they told her its your garage door opener brand that has this typical issue and that she need to replace the entire opener!!! I had this garage door opener running for over 10 years without issue. If he knows that its time for a new garage opener why he didn't advise her in the first place. Now we paid for the part and labor that didn't fix the problem and they tell my wife you need to buy a new garage opener now. Very dishonest and took advantage of my wife.
