John, what a genuinely kind person! Knew immediately what the problem was, and he had to do QUITE a bit to fix it. Our door is 3 years old, and it started popping up after closing. Long story, but John replaced hinges, added more bolts where it was needed, fixed the link to the motor, and fixed something where it had enough "give" to stay closed. I would not recommend John from affordable "quality" garage doors. He charged my wife for a service call and wasn't able to diagnose the issue. He said "Maybe its a circuit board issue, or a number of other potential reasons why the door opener isnt working". Finally fed up with his incompetence, i got on a ladder and pressed one button on the door opener and everything works fine. Sorry John, you just lost the 6 install jobs you just quoted for me as well! All I had to do was push one button on the opener and you couldn't figure that out during your 1/2 hour inspection. read more

Got a few bids and they weren't the cheapest but simply not the most expensive but was assured by Stacy (husband and wife team) that I would love John's work. Our garage project was to replace our new home garage doors with something up to date vs its original 80's wood doors and no motors. It took about 4weeks to have the custom doors completed and 2days to finalize our install. John worked round the clock for both days and completed it as promised. John came on time and was able to fix all our problems However, he did not give me any sort of estimate of any "extra" work along the way. He just did it. And charged me at the end of the day. It was over $1000 dollars. The work was good, but the ethics are not. People I use for repairs ALWAYS quote me before they do the work. We had asked him to reset the garage door code pad. Instead, he just installed a new one and charged us for it. We had an extra one IN the garage. Had he asked prior (as it procedure for ethical contractors), we could have given him that one to use. He also said he needed to change some hinges to a heavier gauge. I assumed he meant the ones on the edges by the way he explained it. He did not give me an estimated and said he would be back to do it another day. WRONG. He did it that day and charged me and did ALL the hinges. If you decide to use, beware of the work done without an estimate. Quality work, poor ethics. read more

Well John installed my 7th garage door last week. I have had 4 different types of service. John came out on what must have been the hottest day of the year. He removed two garage doors and all of the hardware for them and placed them in another garage for storage. (I am thrifty (some would say cheap) and I planned to reuse them). He installed new tracks and installed insulated security doors. He also installed garage door openers. The doors work smoothly and look great. I forgot he was there and never even offered him a drink:(. A month or so later he came back with one new door. He then installed the two doors and hardware that he had removed from my other two garages and the new door. He also installed garage door openers in each of the three garages. Everything worked perfectly and the door he chose was almost an exact match. This time I remembered he was there and offered him a drink:). A month after this I lost all of my extra garage door openers for the three garages. He came back and replaced them:) My final 2 garage doors are beautiful. The installation was amazing. He built wooden tilt up doors. He replaced the side posts and installed a new header for the new doors. These are for a very old house and the openings are wonky! you can not tell. He made one part slightly bigger, one part slightly smaller, adjusted a little here and a little there! The doors look amazing! The openers he installed are a dream. Each time I was given an estimate and he stuck by it. (the wonky doors took almost a whole extra day to finish) Every time my driveway looked better when he left then when he arrived. Gave us a reasonable quote and he had all the tools and parts with him. So called it a deal and he got the spring, bears and cables all done within 2 hours. John is just one of those guys that you instantly know you can trust to do the job right. I've had him work on my garage on two different occasions. First after the entire door collapsed in half after years of neglect by the apartment community. The manager sent John to fix it the next day, new motor and all. The second time was to have a key pad installed so I can open and close my garage door without carrying the remote all the time. They actually quoted me an estimate after I had sent them pictures of the problem, and stuck to it! John showed up before the scheduled time. Fixed the problem very quickly and professionally. I have been using YELP for a long time to locate good restaurants and always figured my first review would be a food place. Well I actually signed up so I could review a garage door company. We needed a new door and I called the usual big name folks, Mesa and Precision. I had AAA Preferred painting out at my house also painting the house(They also did a good job for a good price) . The owner of AAA said he knew the owner of Affordable Quality Doors so I called him as well. I am not rating Precison or Mesa in this review but both deserve one star for being late, bragging they install 800 doors a week but somehow didn't have my standard sized door, wanting to leave my old rails and springs when they installed the new door ..anyway! So John from Affordable came to my home to give me an estimate. John did an inspection and gave me an estimate that was in the ball park of the two other companies. Folks don't let the little old pick-up stacked with garage parts scare you.. The "Quality" in the company name really is John's ability, knowledge, and customer care when installing the door. He went over ever part of the new door as he installed it making sure it worked perfectly. He fixed my old opener up so it works like new..( Precision told me the opener was bad) He worked very cleanly. He set up a work station in my garage and cleaned up as if he were never there. When he was done he cleaned and inspected the new door like he was had just installed it on his own home. I learned of Affordable Quality Garage Doors Inc (AQGD) back in 2003 (13 years ago) when the garage doors for our town-home units were being replaced. John did the work back then and I was so impressed with the new material and how solid everything was installed. I intended to write a review back then, but never did. Now 13 years later, my garage door is still going strong; regardless of never having it serviced. Recently the top gear needed to be replaced so contacted AQGD. John came to the rescue, replaced the worn part and also took an opportunity to perform a tune-up and maintenance on the door and opener (at my request). John explained everything that he was doing and what to look-out for going forward as well as how to clean-up my door so it looks like new.
