The Wife and I are doing some upgrades to our house and one of them is replacing our 1953 tilt up door that is heavy and the springs aren't so great. I found C&W through a Costco brochure when we were shopping there recently. After submitting a request, a very nice person called me to arrange an estimate meeting the following week. Right on time, Werner showed up at our house and we walked to the back of our property where the ancient garage door stood. I informed Werner that I wanted to install another tilt up door and he let me know that they did not do tilt up doors, so it looked like this was potentially a waste of time. I told him, that we should discuss so I understand the pros and cons of the roll up versus the tilt up. Werner patiently ran me through the pros, cons and mechanisms of the roll up door, including the side mounted motor which seemed much better than the ones hanging from the ceiling. I was now NOT convinced that a tilt up is where we should be headed. Werner provided me a quote and the details of the savings since we were working through the Costco program. Very good pricing, the best of any of the other similar doors we were quoted. After mulling over the different quotes and designs, I decided that I did in fact want a tilt up again as I guess I am old school when is comes to our house. C&W was great to work with and I would recommend them to anyone seeking a garage door. It did not work out for what we needed, but that was not any fault of C&W, they supported us well. They came out quickly to quote it, showed me several alternatives and helped work through some schedule complications related to a pending wedding. The gentleman who did the installation was on time, clearly communicated what was going to happen, did a great job in just under 4 hours and showed me how to do periodic maintenance in the future. Appointment was 3pm today, but Werner calls saying he's delayed and will come at 4pm instead. I contact him at 4:10pm because no one has arrived and he answered the phone saying he's still at the office and will leave to drive over to my house with arrival around 4:45pm. He's basically almost 2 hours late to his original appointment. I don't understand why they even bother to schedule appointments they can't even make on time. The schedulers need to coordinate with Werner because your business seems very unreliable and a mess. We really think Costco needs to evaluate their relationship with this company because they are going around saying "I am Costco" when that's pretty bogus. When did "An Amarr garage door consultant " become synonymous with "Costco"? The Costco brand and 10% shop card is what got us interested in getting a quote. We already have 3 quotes from local companies with 5 star Yelp ratings. My husband asked how much for a 1/2 HP motor and Werner spent a few minutes explaining motors are no longer measured in horsepower but Newton....ok professor. Before revealing his quote for the motor, he asked to see competitor pricing which my husband showed him. Then he said cheapest option is an lift-master unit ( $531 installed after shop card 'discount' ). He reluctantly gave that price after what seemed like endless lines of questioning, going on tangents to say he install motors that will lift 600 pound doors ( average doors are 200 pounds) and talking down at the competition (who has hundreds of reviews and 5 star ratings). After Werner seemingly exhausting effort to measure out a standard sized 2 car garage door and standard sized single garage door, which he recognized to be Amarr brand. He went on logorrhea of different options, 24gauge steel versus 25 gauge steel, color options and skyline options that may vary the pricing. He just won't give a straight answer for a quote to replace our current doors which are older Amarr garage doors with insulated steel frame with skyline frosted glass. To cap off the crazy encounter, he asked my husband to read a paragraph from a sheet of paper in his briefcase stating price increases of Amarr garage doors. Apparently prices are going up by 25% next week. But Sir, stop beating around the bush and tell us what that price quote might be already instead showing us the fact that steel prices has tripled. If you enjoy beating around the bush, draining conversation about current power nomenclature of garage door motors, a lesson about the crisis in our steel industry, and 2 1/2 hours of free time...give them a call. C & W Installed our new garage door and motor 3 years ago. They did a great job of quoting the job out, giving us a list of great options, and then installing a great system which has become the envy of our neighbors. They were great at with follow up and answering questions and sending out a technician when we needed additional help. I would have given them 5 stars for their work and service back then. However, today, we had a bit of an emergency and one of our springs busted last night. We didn't realize the spring busted until this morning when we tried opening the garage door. We tried to manually open the door, but couldn't figure out the "trick" to actually open it up and get the car out so we could get to work. THE REASON FOR LOW REVIEW TODAY: I called C & W when they opened and wasn't able to speak to anyone - instead had to leave a voicemail message. I said it was an emergent situation for us (I get it, my emergency may not be someone else's..) and to call me. I also sent a request through their website... both of these done this morning around 8:00. It's now almost 2:00PM and I have not heard back via phone or email. I tried to bring my business back to them but the lack of follow up... at least a phone call or email message back has forced me to go to another provider. read more

Getting a great garage door replacement is not easy! I spent 2 months interviewing and researching every installer and manufacturer I could find to replace a 20 year old Anaheim door original. After much thought, I chose C&W Garage Door through Costco. You can go direct to C&W if you are looking for the high end manufacturer, AMARR. Trust me..there is a difference, but when you are not knowledgeable, you can be taken for a ride. I purchased my AMARR from the owner of C&W, Werner. He was professional, had all the samples with him and gave me a price and stayed to it....none of this "I will beat any price BS." You get what you pay for. The door was installed in less than 3 hours by Werner's key installer of 12 years...Oscar. What a delight! He came to US as a 15 year old with his father who knew it was not good for his son where he was. He started as an underpaid paver tile installer, until he found Werner and learned the Garage installation business. I can not be happier. Oscar was on time, clean, happy personality and professional. Showed me all I needed to do to maintain it and left my home spotless. Can't ask for anything else. Working through Costco, we recently got our new garage door from C & W and, overall, our experience was good. The sales rep Jeff Bennett was excellent. We got estimates from three companies and Jeff was the ONLY one who actually brought samples to our appointment with him. Imagine that! How do you expect someone to buy a product like this without seeing decent samples? When we asked Jeff to come out to our house again BEFORE we committed to go with C & W, he gladly did. To be fair, we told him we were leaning his way, but just wanted to be sure about a couple of things. Jeff was very professional and didn't try to upsell us on anything. He explained everything clearly so there were no surprises, which is always good. Also, Jeff likes to measure (then measure again) which I appreciate. He just wants to be sure. And, we ordered a new style of door that wasn't going to be in production for a few weeks and Jeff was very clear about that. We were willing to wait and now that the door is in, we're glad we did. It looks great! All three bids we originally got were about the same, but there were some subtle differences. One company only offered one remote and no outdoor keypad. The second remote and keypad would be an extra cost. The guy from the other company kept saying, "Yeah, we can do that, no problem", but we just didn't feel comfortable. The C & W cost included two remotes and a keypad and we had it in writing. Anyway, the bottom line is, just make sure you are comparing apples to apples. Linda in the sales office was nice and communicated well via phone and e-mail, so that was appreciated. And what can I say about Oscar the installer? He did a great job. He showed up on time and was very nice, answering any and all questions I had, which were many. We have a double car garage and he did the entire thing himself in about 3.5 hours. Amazing! You should just know that if you get a new garage door now, by law (beginning July 1, 2019) you need an opener with a battery backup, so if you don't have that you'll need to buy a new opener. I read up and checked on that just to make sure, and it's true. It's Senate Bill No. 969. It was an added expense, but we're glad we got the new opener since our other one was 11 years old and had been giving us intermittent problems for a few years. It was time. This one has wireless capabilities, though we have yet to install the app on our phones. It's so nice to have a quiet, smooth rolling steel garage door instead of the noisy, rickety wooden one it replaced. It's only been a week, but so far, so good with new garage door. I don't normally write Yelp reviews, but I think they help potential customers made educated decisions, so I have tried to make it a point to take the time to do so more often now, especially if we have a good experience. We were referred to this place by Costco after which the owner came to our home for an estimate. Immediately after meeting me in the garage he started to become annoyed , complaining of how cold our garage was and why he had to work in the cold. I was taken by surprise at the surly attitude and thought to calm him down by offering him a jacket to wear, but he refused and continued to become increasingly rude and angry . I had had enough of this guy's behavior by this time and let him know it, after which he dropped his attitude, backed off, and decided to get into his sales pitch. We had our doors delayed, which was not C&W fault, but we were never notified, after numerous attempts we were told about the delay. They do not return phone calls or emails until numerous phone calls from us. Once doors were installed. They installed the 2 different windows and we were asked to provide a picture because they installed did not believe it. Once the email was sent, no response, had to call them and they gave me a response (the wrong windows were shipped, not C&W fault but they did not realize they installed 2 different windows or that the order was wrong).Very unreliable. Never again, we have sent a formal complaint to Costco regarding Amarr doors and C&W. BY THE WAY THIE REVIEW IS FOR C&W GARAGE DOORS NOT FOR AMARR. However, I opted to have them come out for a maintenance tune-up for both of our doors ... as it had been about 10 yrs since they were installed (by C&W). C&W has my unquestioning recommendation for the quality of their work, excellent customer relations and willingness to go the extra mile. My garage doors were substantially damaged when a visitor hit the accelerator instead of the brake. I needed to get more than one estimate for demo work and construction of new doors. Werner gave an acceptable bid, then went to work. At the last minute, a custom part proved to be about one foot off spec, resulting in a physical relocation of a support structure. Werner and his crew not only made the necessary changes, but worked beyond expectations to clear garage boxes and clutter, even assembling a set of shelving I had bought some time before and never got around to putting together. The new shelves got much of the clutter off the floor and made room for cars at last. Werner stood by his original bid which did not include all the extra clutter rearrangement and shelf assembly. After listening to me he thought I needed a new motor. 2.5 stars. I recently needed to replace my garage doors. I decided to use this company since my neighbors and HOA recommended them. I made an appointment and the owner came out and measured and gave me a price. He seemed 'bugged' that I didn't sign on right then and there for him to do the job. That should have been my first clue. When I called him back the next day to give him the go ahead with the job he told me to sign the Costco form and fax it to him? I was confused because I didn't go through Costco, so I told him I was a direct customer and not through Costco then I asked him if the pricing is better going through Costco because I would do that. He told me to 'never mind' and tried to brush over it. Clue #2, I guess. Then he asked if I could pay cash instead of credit card, I told him 'yes', but no discount or anything was offered?? Clue #3. Still I went ahead with the job. Price was the best of the three companies I checked with and I had recommendations. The installer came out on time and put the doors in. The workmanship is totally 'average'. I mean, it all works fine. But could they have been installed better??..... yes, definitely. Now after the fact, I wish I would have used the company I have used in the past ..., Superior Garage Doors out of Riverside. Their price was $150 more for the exact same doors, but now I would have gladly paid that for their much better workmanship. If you are shopping for garage doors, check Superior Garage Doors, they do come to OC or try Costco if you are going to use this company, might be cheaper? Still don't know? Compare: I got Stratford 2000 insulated doors for a 3-car garage- $1305 plus $60 to reconnect the two existing garage door openers (seems like a rip) for a total of $1365. read more

I was introduced to them thru Costco in Fountain Valley. Werner came out to present the doors right on time. He seemed to have lots of experience in the industry and mentioned that many times but he wasn't very open to sharing his knowledge. He seemed a little disgruntled with most my questions and wouldn't elaborate on anything. I asked if I could see a sample of the door and he said he could send me some addresses to go look at. I should have moved on to someone else but I figured he must be having a bad day and he's got to be reputable since he's backed by Costco. I was also eager to get my ugly door replaced. There was a lot back and forth with the discussions because of his vagueness but I finally chose a door. We compared some color samples to my trim color and chose a color. Werner wrote everything up and then he caught an error in his pricing. He forgot to add the cost of the windows. He was nice about it and discounted them some. He gave me the paper work to sign and I caught another error. The door he chose was the wrong one. It was one we discussed but thru much discussion, changed to the other choice. He made the correction and I signed. I went ahead and provided my Costco Amex card for payment. The doors were custom so they would take a few weeks to get. About a week later, the doors went on sale for 10% off. I called Werner to see what could be done. He informed me that Amarr does not honer any 30 day price guarantee and I'd have to call Costco but its a long shot. He rushed me off the phone "off to do an install". This is when I started to really get disgruntled. My door was over $3000 and he seemed peeved that I would even bother. Unfortunately, it was a special order and paid for. I was stuck with the door and that's how he treated me. The sale was final, his work was done. I never heard from him again. I even had to call the office and bug them for addresses to look at doors. They ended up giving me addresses that were far away from me. I have since seen my same doors in neighborhoods near by. It took awhile to work things out with Costco but they got me the 10%. Maybe this wasn't so bad. About a week later, I got a call from C&W to install the doors. Oscar came out to install the doors. I was excited to get this done. Oscar was very nice and I was impressed that he could do the whole thing by himself. He put it up and everything worked fine. Until, I noticed the color of the door. It's the wrong color. Not the one I had picked from the samples. I had picked one of his off white samples, I think it was the almond but it's my fault I didn't pay more attention. I've decided to live with the color and just paint my trim but what a mess. A huge learning experience for me and a warning to others. If you really want the Amarr doors and you use C&W just stay on top of the whole transaction. Good luck! read more

I recently purchased a new garage door and opener from C&W garage doors (thru Costco). I had a similar bid from another company, but decided to go with a big company. It didn't work out very well. Werner came out to give me C&W's bid. I had already researched the doors quite a bit and knew exactly what I wanted. I even had pictures of the exact door style and accent trim that I wanted. Werner took measurements and wrote it all up. He seemed a little miffed when I told him I had one more bid to get before I made a decision. The other bid was almost identical in price, so I went with the Costco referral. Once the door was installed, I realized there was no accent trim kit. I called Werner, who said he didn't recall talking to me about it, but we hadn't been charged for it--so he'd be happy to install it for an additional fee... When he wrote the estimate, we spent 10 minutes going over the trim, looking at pictures, and he had me pick the correct style from his catalog. So, either: 1. He screwed up and didn't want to admit it, or 2. He left the trim out of the estimate on purpose to make his bid more competitive. Also, at the time of the estimate he told me I could get an upgraded spring for the door for an extra $25--just add that into the total paid if I wanted it. So, even though I paid the extra $25, now I realize that spring upgrade is not written in the work order either. Did I get the upgraded spring? I have no way of knowing by looking at it.... I had my garage door and opener installed by them many years ago. I'm having problems with the sensors on the garage door opener. This appears to be an electrical issue. I called to schedule service on my opener. It seemed like I was wasting his time with my minor problem. If I knew about garage door openers and electrical work, I would have done it myself. I don't, so I tried to get a professional to do it and use the same company that installed everything. I'm sorry that I don't know the correct terminology but I tried to explain the problem and the parts that were not working properly. When I called the day before, I was told how to fix the sensors. If it didn't work, I could call back to schedule service since the problem might be electrical. I wish he would have answered the phone the next day. I went to C&W through Costco as I wanted to garage door company that was itself solid, but also had a large company standing behind it, as well. I did this after polling my entire street as to what garage door companies they had used and what experience they had with their companies (the homes in my neighbourhood are ~20 years old and were installed with wooden doors and almost all doors have been being replaced in the last 5-7 years). Okay, I had a great experience with C&W, from Linda the office manager to Jeff, the measurement/salesman, to Mike who was my installer for the doors (1 double, 1 single). Jeff, who took the measurements, was a former draftsman & was so precise with his measurements and explanations as to my options - I was thankful he was the person who came out. I also had a new opener installed as my old opener died the same day I placed my order. Linda had great telephone customer service skills, kept me updated as to scheduling, and was patient with my questions. Mike, the installer, was quiet, kind, efficient, a good explainer, and made sure I knew how to get answers to any future questions. So often it is the Customer Service of the staff which makes or breaks a review, so that is why I am going on about the CS here - I was really pleased! The quality of the merchandise is solid. I've owned a few houses over the years and have had aluminum, steel, and wood doors, and I really like the quality of these doors. My husband and I decided to change our garage door after 14 years....C&W Garage doors provided us with a great selection of doors. Werner offered great advice and was very patient with me. The delivery time and price were very competitive and the service was excellent . My house looks 10 times better than it did thanks to the Hill Crest model with hardware on it. The same day the new garage door was installed, there was an open house across the street. The realtor came to ask me for C&W's information to get a quote. She said that my house looks so much nicer with this new door. Our neighbors think it is very nice and are considering changing their garage door. i would recommend C&W to all of my friends. We ordered our new garage doors through the Costco program, who uses C&W for the ordering and installation process. We set up an appointment with their salesman, Mark Callihan, who showed up (on-time) and took the required measurements and explained all the options to us. Very professional. WE had some additional questions and wanted to see some more samples, so Werner Wilke, the owner agreed to meet us at their showroom on a Saturday morning, outside their normal hours. After signing the paperwork, the installation was quickly scheduled and the installer (Oscar) showed up on-time to complete the installation. During the re-install of one of our two openers died. (35 years old) Oscar called Werner to see if they had one in-stock. They did, and Werner personally drove it down to our house (16 miles) so the job could be completed that day by Oscar.
