I had loved this place in years past but the past 5 times I've been there have been horrible food as well as service. I ordered waffles and they came out they weren't even warm inside or out. She went to the kitchen immediately brought out a waffle that was burnt beyond belief and asked if this was too burnt for me, I said yes. She came back with one that was warm on the outside I was excited to actually eat a warm waffle only to find the inside was still cold. As you can imagine as angry as I was she wanted to try again and I said let's not I'd rather not get anything else. She did however take off the waffle from the bill. Very disappointed. read more

So I go to Exeter Family Restaurant several times a week with my friends, usually late at night, so I might be a tad biased. This place is leaps and bounds above your average diner. The interior decor really sets this place apart from other diners. Always got Sirius XM radio playing which is pretty cool. The food is always good, and there's a reason this place always gets voted "Best Diner in Berks County." Great soups, especially Seafood Bisque, and the salad bar has a great selection too. This prices are on par with other restaurants of similar nature, and it's open 24 hours which is great. I know Denny's maybe "America's Diner," but Exeter Family Restaurant is Exeter's diner! read more

Our favorite Diner in the Reading area. Food is excellent, portions are sizeable, staff friendly, if something is not right they make it right. Love the crab cakes and club sandwiches. Wife gets chicken Parmesan dinners. Price is reasonable. Worth the short drive from Wyomissing. To us, to go here is a treat. read more

We've been going to EFM for years and in that time we've only ONCE had a bad experience with food. (3 years ago, a pork sandwich that was just...bad. The waitress IMMEDIATELY took it away and brought my husband another entree in a matter of minutes and all was well!) The restaurant is ALWAYS clean which is a HUGE 'thumbs up' for me! They offer a HUGE variety of items, from sandwiches, to burgers, to steaks and seafood. The salad bar always has fresh items available as well as 2 different soups and many varieties of fresh bread. Without a doubt, my 2 favorite menu items are the shrimp and blue crab ravioli (this is a special and as far as I know, NOT available on a daily basis) and macaroni and cheese. Just thinking about them has me craving both of these right now! We've always had wonderful, friendly waitresses who are quick to bring us drinks, take our order and bring the food out. And they're always there to check on us to make sure everything is OK, ask if we want dessert, etc. The prices are incredibly reasonable. In fact, we're always amazed by the amount of food we get for the price! With the exception of breakfast (which I've only had a few times there and was excellent...LOVE the omelets!) I can't recall a time when we've NOT brought leftovers home with us because the food portions are so generous. I HIGHLY recommend EFR! It'll be 'love at first bite' when you eat there! read more

My husband and I went to this restaurant last night to check it out. Usually family restaurants serve good HOMEMADE food. This was not the case at this establishment. I didn't eat one thing that tasted good. The applesauce in the salad bar, if it was homemade, was very bitter. The chicken croquettes do not taste like chicken. They are fried hard on the outside and mushy with no flavor on the inside. The filling tasted like dirt. The gravy did not taste like chicken gravy, it tasted like lard. Totally disgusting. Even the buttered corn wasn't good. I am the Queen of mashed potatoes and like to make mine with both yellow and white potatoes for optimum flavor and texture. Their mashed potatoes tasted like instant cardboard. I was very disappointed in the meal and feel we wasted $24.16 plus tip on lousy food. I didn't even finish my food, I almost got sick. I am still tasting the bad flavors today, my stomach hurts. We will never go back, unless they fire their chef, or train the chef on how to cook. Not everyone has a cast iron stomach and the food tasted like it was cooked on the floor. REALLY REAALY BAD! Please do not respond with a this is not typical. Obviously it is. Don't give lip service, if you care about your restaurant, you will make real changes. read more

Came to Exeter family diner for breakfast last week because I'd heard they have good breakfast. Definitely not impressed. The hostess sat us before the table was even cleaned so we awkwardly had to stand and wait in the dining room. We ordered our food and waited an hour. When the food came out it was cold! The French toast was so dry, my daughter couldn't even cut her pancake, it was awful. Other things occurred but these were the highlights. For two adults and one child the bill was almost $40 for just basic breakfast, nothing fancy. Thankfully the hostess took $7 off the bill for our bad experience. In this day and age, money is tight, especially for a family of four. It is hard to find a restaurant where you can have both good food and reasonable prices for a family on a budget. The food is good, the service is good, children are welcome, the restaurant is clean and the price is right. I'm a local, visiting the diner 2x/month for several years now. Love that I can call at 5 and ask for a dinner special to be ready for take-out at 6:30 & it always is! Former Southerner, I can get a country fried steak & taters, near impossible to find around here. The staff is friendly & attentive, the food is excellent, in great quantities & you'll eat the take-out dinner for a couple days. Great prices, love the soup too. I'll keep coming back! Well let's start, I was trying to treat my dad and brother to breakfast for dinner after we got done watching some high school football. As we were in the area, and I like to patronize the businesses in the town I grew up in, I figured we would go to what used to be the sure fire place to go for after hours eats. The worst part is, we didn't even make it to any of the aforementioned "eats". In fact, after waiting for literally 17 minutes, and not even having our drink order taken. I rounded up my kin and headed elsewhere. Even after drawing attention and flagging down another waitress who "wasn't waiting my table" , which I hate to do because I was raised with manners, we still couldn't get even a glass of water. I usually don't like to bash any establishment, but between the attitude I received in my very meager interactions with the staff, and the fact I couldn't get a drink in 15 minutes..I certainly won't be going back read more

Went to eat yesterday with a friend and my 4 year old god daughter. The waitress right away seem rushed and busy. As servers of 16 years of experience combined we knew that sometimes people have bad days and understand the stress of the restaurant industry on a Friday night so we just let it go and continued to order our food. Once our meals were served the waitress did not check us once as both our beverages were empty and in need of refills. We patiently waited for atleasst 15 minutes as I noticed our waitress paying more attention to two men sitting at the breakfast bar than even considering checking on us , so I went up the breakfast bar and asked if we could get refills please because clearly she was incapable of asking us herself. The waitress said yes turned around and started tapping our beverages but thought I had went back to the table.... but I did not I was still standing behind her and she goes to one of the other servers "I CAN'T KEEP UP WITH THESE DEHYDRATED BITCHES" as severs ourselves we understand that the whole restaurant can not be at fault for one single servers disrespect. We had emailed the manager and they did return our email promptly and professionally and agreed to fix the problem. read more
