Have eaten at Exmore Diner several times, and have always left full and happy, without too much damage done to the wallet. We have never been the least bit disappointed with ordering any of their fish from their special's board. It's always prepared perfectly. Sides are also better than they have to be. While I'm not a huge going out for breakfast person, it's decent, although I've never enjoyed it quite as much as dinner. I'll be back in on of those narrow booths next time I'm in the area. The wife and I have been wanting to try the Exmore Diner for a few years, but have never got around to it due to our proximity. The time was right since we were staying in an Airbnb in Cape Charles, & we were 25 minutes away. Obviously with COVID-19 being a factor, this was not a typical experience, but it was enjoyable just the same. Pulled into the parking lot at around 8:00 am on a Friday morning, called in our order of Biscuits n' Gravy, with a sausage link, home fries, & over easy egg. The hostess/ food runner was extremely friendly & helpful. Took about 5-7 minutes to get our food from the time we ordered. Very prompt. Headed back to the home-away-from-home, & promptly devoured our food. It was just what we needed. The most amazing part of the breakfast was hand's down, the ***LINK SAUSAGE!*** You must get this! It's slightly bigger than a hot dog (it's definitely too much pork for just one fork) and the spice/seasoning on it is just amazing. Next time we visit we'll have to check them out for lunch & dinner, & take a bundle of sausages to go! read more

The only downside for me is I am a big guy, and the dinner was built back in the day of the less chubby Americans. I need an extra large place to sit. While driving home from OBX, I used my trusty Yelp app to help find us a breakfast spot. The great reviews lead us to the Exmore Diner, even though it was kind of off the beaten path. The diner is narrow with a row of booths and a long counter. It cannot accommodate a party larger than 4. The pancakes are sold at $1.75 per cake. I thought that was odd until I saw and tasted them. Wow! They are huge - two are enough for an entree. They were The. Most. Delicious. Pancakes. Ever. So fluffy and buttery. We also had a BLT with soft toast and crispy bacon. $1 extra gets you a salad instead of fries, well worth it. The coffee was hot and the service was quick and professional. The bill was dirt cheap. It was $12 for two of us and we were stuffed. I highly recommend the pancakes though, they were unbelievable. If you're in the area, I can't recommend this diner enough. This place is a really cool authentic, original diner. When I sat down at the counter, I felt like I was in the '50s! Original countertop/bar stools with wooden booths and the whole place just has a really cool old school vibe. The prices are super affordable and you get a lot for what you pay for! I got an western omelet and a single slice of French toast and my entire bill was about $7. And the omelet was the size of my plate...it was huge! The Exmore Diner is a gem! Definitely worth a detour off the highway. We visited in late April 2021 when the diner was only doing pickup/takeout due to COVID. We drove over to Exmore and looked at the menu listed outside (it is also posted daily on the Exmore Diner FB page). My husband had a softshell crab sandwich and I had the two soft-shell crabs (no sandwich), turnip greens, coleslaw. The soft-shell crabs were perfect! So delicious. I decided to order the 7-layer (yes, 7!) key lime cake. Oh, my goodness, it was wonderful. We also had unsweet tea. Our food was ready quickly. I got eggs, hot cakes, French toast, bacon, sausage, orange juice, sweet tea, and home fries! Eggs were done to perfection. Hot cakes were massive and very fluffy. French toast was very thick. Exmore diner has been on my bookmark list for quite a while and and I must say what an excellent find indeed. I was on my way to Philly this morning and stopped in for breakfast, mom was along for the ride. This diner is a throw back to a bygone era. I don't know how old the place is but it's cozy and authentic to say the least. We walked in and took a booth on the right. A lady who would become our server took our drink order from behind the counter an pointed out the specials on the board. A moment later we had our drinks and placed an order. Afterwords I took a look around and it really is like stepping back in time. There are about 15 counter stools and about 6 or 7 booths. The old silver sheet metal has metal flairs and such in it, something you don't see at all in today's modern recreations. With about 10 minutes the table was covered with a country breakfast. Mom had the pancakes and bacon special off the board while I ordered a la carte from the menu. I had 2 eggs over easy, bacon, home fries, corned beef hash with toast. The home fries also came with onions and cheese. What a breakfast. You don't get this kind of home cooking back home on the south side of the Bay Bridge and it was a wonderful breakfast. If you like diners, this is one to check out, it's just off the Exmore bypass on Main St. You can't miss it. read more

But, next time I will try to get there early enough for breakfast, as that seems much more in their wheelhouse than the dinner I had recently. Most of the choices were deep fried, which is okay, but not the only way I like seafood. My Clam Strips were pleasantly crunchy, but a rather small quantity. The side dishes of Mashed Potatoes and Fried Apples were run of the mill. The staff is friendly and cool, but the customers are really where the show starts. From fisherman, to farmers, to after church lunch eaters, and the occasional road weary warrior, the charm of this joint is the mix of people in the booths or at the counter interacting with everyone. I've eaten here twice - both times for dinner - and have not been disappointed. Exmore Diner is the very definition of authentic. What you see is what you get. Cute down home place. Friendly staff, good food. If you are in the Exmore area and looking for a real American owned and operated diner that is where the locals go to eat... this is the place. It is a little crusty around the edges but that is one of the things that gives this place its unique character. The diner was packed while my family of seven were there, but it was not noisy at all. My four year old daughter fell off of one of the stools and the whole place went quiet and everyone, staff and customers were trying to help comfort her. They all made us feel so welcome my daughter stopped crying quickly and was laughing and having a good time before we knew it. All the booths were full so we took seats at the counter and ordered beverages. Our waitress didn't seem too happy to be there but that changes as locals came in. We ordered the Toni Burgers and moved to a table that had cleared. I am GF so provided my own bread which they gladly toasted for my burger. I have to tell you that my husband stated that it was the best burger he has ever had. It was actually very delicious. The fries were also piping hot. Our bill with tax was just under $20.00, can't beat that! The next time we pass through Exmore we will be sure to be hungry. After a few more visits we may just be greeted with a smile. read more

I always enjoy a meal at Exmore Diner before and after my annual trip to Hampton, VA. My 2nd trip to Exmore Diner, going home to Delaware, was not a decent experience. My server, an older woman name Krissy, must have a bad thing towards out-of-staters, because she seemed to concentrate more on the locals because she spent more time with them, and I have to get another server to get my beverage. The guy next to me got his order before mine (Krissy's other customer) and I had to get another server to get my order. The fries were a bit undercooked so Krissy finally got me a new order of fries, this time golden krispy. When I went to pay my bill, she asked if I wanted anything to drink. Umm, I'm like it's too little too late. She was the worst server Exmore Diner ever had, and I will never want her to wait on me again. read more

We were driving through the Delmarva on a full day road trip. Always that difficult choice of where to lunch since we eschew fast food. Plus there isn't much to choose from in that area unless you explore the business loops off the main. I saw a sign for the Exmore Diner. Being from Jersey we gave it a shot. What a find! this place is the real deal, old time diner. Decent food, good service, reasonably priced, in a friendly atmosphere. The menu was reasonably priced, the bacon and the hot cakes were excellent size and good tasting... with that being said - the French toast was lacking seriously, the biscuits are old and hard with a nice touch of cardboard, the sausage patties have an over hint of chemical.. and that's only from what I've tasted myself. The service was one of the worst I've had from start to finish - unresponsive, rude, judgey - there was ONE employee who was friendly and actually got us at a table with a smile. If you're on a road trip like us - go somewhere else! Seriously, anywhere else.
