Great nail salon in Newark. Small business that I love to support, the customer service is impeccable. I would definitely recommend making an appointment as they get busy. I experienced it firsthand- they don't want to turn anyone away, but customers who have an appt are the priority- as they should be. The last time I was in Christy did my ombre acrylic nails. They are perfect. She listened and looked at pictures of what I liked and gave me exactly what I wanted. The salon is clean and relaxing. I called Exotic Nails before my arrival to inquire about prices and availability. I was told $28 for Pedicure w/ Regular Nail Polish and $25 for Acrylic Fill-In w/ Regular Nail Polish (with Gel it would be $40) - the prices listed on photo. As soon as I arrived, I was greeted by manager Christine, very welcoming and she asked me to pick my nail polish color. Phi was my Nail Tech that did both mani/pedi services on me. She was a very sweet, nice lady. They accept credit card without any fees. I saw a fridge with mini water bottles, however, I wasn't offered anything to drink. I don't know if it's free or if you have to pay but I was observed is that it wasn't offered to everyone. Not sure if you need to speak up and ask for it instead. The place is clean and love the thriving plants and festive decor. They offer waxing here as well. Back to my nails -- Phi asked if I wanted to cut my finger nails shorter and I declined because I saw it was a $5 extra charge for "nail shape change". So I said No, I'll keep my previous shape (which was almond) and all I wanted was a refill for $25. Phi also double checked with me "are you sure you don't want Gel?" And I said "No Thank you" and she asked me why? I said "because of the $40 price" -- so when it's time to pay, Phi ends up charging me $30 for my refill and when I said it's supposed to be $25, she then says $5 more because your nails are long. -- But this was never disclosed to me over the phone when I inquired, nor in person when I walked in, nor when she was actually doing the fill. And look guys, I get it, it's only $5 but it's the principle. Communicate. Maybe it's my fault for not checking again on the price before services started. But I don't think I need to when I called prior to my arrival. It's not even on the Price List "$5 extra for long nails" so I don't think the extra charge was valid. So because of that, unfortunately, I used that $5 as part of Phi's tip and only gave an additional $2 to make my "grand total" of $60. And hear me out -- I just feel like if you're gonna charge me $30 for a refill, then I could've just had a brand new set for $35. So I was expecting my refill to be $25 like stated on the phone and on the price list. If you're wondering if I said anything to manager Christine, I did not -- because she was busy with another client. Had Christine been available, I would have informed her. Regardless of that miscommunication, I will come again and bring my Mom next time. Both Christine and Phi are pleasant to talk with and hard working women. This is why I gave them 5 stars. Decided I wanted to look around for another location to do my nail. I live about 45 mins away and I think I have my spot. First time I had my mani and pedi done at exotic. Loved it and since I have come back to have my mani done twice and love the cat's eye design. The girls here are a bit more mature than the one I have been with the younger gen vibe I get loud music and etc. and usually can not hear them talking or think to myself. here is calm with the Tv going about news. I honestly didn't want to leave this kind of review on here, but I feel that it should be known as to how I was treated at such a business, on a personal level. I have never been treated so poorly at such a place, let alone a nail shop. I was a long-term client of Christy's and I was introduced to her by a friend who had nothing but nice things to say about her, especially her nail skills; by far, one of the best nail techs that has ever done my nails. I also referred new clients to her, all because of her amazing skills. Knowing Christy's work through time, I knew my expectations of the kind of work she does. I remember having a huge event to go to, & I needed my nails to be nothing but the best, from the best. On the day that she did them, I wasn't sure if she was in the best of moods, but my nails fell short of the amazing work she normally does on me. I am usually not the type to complain about my nails, especially to her, but the nails she did on me felt rushed, mind you, she would always make me wait at every appointment I had with her (& I never minded it because she was always worth the wait). My cuticles were not cleaned or oiled, & I had polish all over my hands, with my nails not filed to the standards I'm used to her doing. The ONLY time I told her how unhappy I was, was the time she said she could fix them, ON THE SAME DAY. I had my daughters come with me, as I had no one to watch them at the time of my appt, and they did their best to stay at her shop for 2 hours, both times, as behaved as any child could. For anyone who knows me, AND MY CHILDREN, know how well-mannered they are. Especially those who work with me, and also get their nails done by Christy. I'm not sure if she knows this, but word at work spreads like wildfire. Christy had made things personal, after me leaving her numerous text messages with nothing but nice things to say to her, and all of them which she had just left on "read." Even before knowing about her "issues" that she had with me, I had asked her for an appt through text. She left me on "read" on 3 occasions. I assumed she was too busy to reply, or maybe too sick to reply, thinking of all the reasons why she didn't respond to any of my messages. However, I found later on, that she replied to someone else about open availability that very same day, and still had left me on "read." Like I said before, I wanted to leave things the way that they were after her ignoring me on several occasions. But the way that she handled things were so unprofessional. I should have known the red flags when she was talking to me about someone I had worked with. That she would never do her nails again. Little did I know that she would do the same to me later down the road. Word got around about why she stopped talking to me. She told this person that my kids were running around all over her tiny shop. My co-workers, all of them, know how my children are. They both stayed in the same place for over 2 hours, each time at her shop, behaving & laughing, and what she said about them was a lie. Christy also mentioned that I took the following day to say that I didn't like the nails she did on me, but if you knew the messages that I had sent her, I was even hesitant to tell her that I didn't like the nails she did on me, and in fact, told her THE SAME DAY. She fixed them, yes. But I didn't think that it would have led to this & her unprofessionally talking bad about her clients to other clients. My daughters never caused ruckus at her shop, nor did she continually ask me if I liked the way she did my nails during the time she was doing them, as she rarely even makes conversation with me to begin with. I still have all of the messages I sent to Christy about what had really taken place that day, to prove to those she talked to about me, that I never once talked maliciously about her, her business, and the way she handled things the way that she did. Her actions speak for herself & I wanted my side to be known before the finger points to me that I had done her wrong. read more

I have to say, that Lindsay gave me one of the best pedicures I've ever had. My feet felt so good and looked better than spending much more for a pedicure at the other salons of which that left me disappointed. Let me just say how AMAZING Christy is! Not only does she keep my nails looking on point, but Christy is so sweet and easy to talk to. Was in town for work and didn't have time to shop around, so went to the closest one. This salon is pretty bare bones. They don't display their nail polish colors on the wall, so you have to look through a pile of them that sits on a cart. The woman who did my pedi kept pausing to do something on her phone - I thought I'd never get through it! Instead of toe separators they use rolled paper towels and mine got stuck on the polish of my big toe. Also did not get any lotion on my legs, which I'm used to back home. I've had my fair share of good and bad mani/pedi places from living in so many places in the last few years and I'll say I try my best to wait until I come home to the East Bay and get it done with Lindsay or Mickey! Lindsay is busy so I HIGHLY suggest an appt with her and keep it! She does wonders! She is thorough and neat - and her polish jobs last the longest I've ever had, especially on my toes! She's not a chatty Cathy, which is my preference...I like to relax, catch up on my FB/Twitters while I'm being pampered, save when i have my mani. Mickey is quick and efficient but I still try to get Lindsay as first choice! I'm not sure y'all but I am not one to WANT to hang out at the salon all day - rushed or not, as long as the job is well done, I have no complaints on service...especially on how price-conscious I am being a housewife/soon to be "soccer mom". Another reason why I make this my first choice - $25 mani/pedi's!! CAN'T be beat! But if you are looking for mud masks, hot stones, towels & paraffin, it will cost you! Lindsay's massage is enough for me! I also get my brow wax done here as it's a one stop shop for that. $10 for just brows! A steal but to add on upper lip wax is another $8 - Not worth it in my book, especially since I barely have any hair there and usually those store bought wax stripes suffice but sometimes, I'm just too lazy...ya know? :) Anyways, if you do opt for the wax, I would aim to get the lady who does it in the chair setup behind the bamboo divider instead of the lady who has her own room in the back unless privacy is your deal breaker. The latter of the two is often heavy handed and pressed for time...she also doesn't do too much of a "cleanup" job with tweezers afterwards and she left many a stray hairs on my last visit... Overall, I must say this is my go-to! Also, they have the best selection of polish colors just for $3 - a very good deal for salon brand and to stockpile at home as I am one of those who like to bring my own since most of the time, salons keep their polishes beyond expiration and just add acetone to thin it out...YUCK! read more

This place is a big NO. I actually want to cry it was so terrible. The lady was blind and not listening to my words or the pictures I was showing her. Completely sloppy job and left my nails and fingers looking crusty (This was a new set). I will never come here again. I was clearly desperate because my actual nail tech was on a long vacation (different nail salon) and I should of followed my gut in the beginning. I have to file my own nails now to make it look somewhat normal. Seriously crying right now as I am writing this review. Everything is outdated at this place, from the polish to the technique.
