Fortunately, my beautiful and resourceful wife found AP Threading, which had perfect Yelp reviews and located less than five minutes from our home. My wife scheduled back to back appointments for us and we anticipated the day of our appointments. While heading to the establishment, my wife and I had a little concern regarding how the eyebrow technician would style our eyebrows. Yes the reviews were good, but there is always the chance that you can walk out with eyebrows that are thinner than preferred. Upon entering the establishment, we were warmly greeted by Ramandeep. At the time the establishment was empty, so Ramandeep immediately sat my wife in her chair. After asking her styling preference and observing a photo that my wife provided, Ramandeep went to work. My wife was very impressed by her eyebrows and how well Ramandeep mirrored the eyebrow style that my wife provided via photo. As Ramandeep ushered me to the chair, she did a great job of acknowledging patrons that were arriving for their appointments (she was also taking walk-ins). I confirmed with Ramandeep that I did not want to arch my eyebrows, just a simple clean up. During the process Ramandeep did a good job of inquiring about my pain tolerance and made friendly conversation. Less than ten minutes later I was emerging from the chair with perfectly cleaned up eyebrows. She said yes and I made an appointment. When I get there I continued to say I wanted a "polygel fill" and she said yes she can do that. After filing down my nails she pulls out a powder and I explained that polygel is not a powder, it's a gel-like substance that hardens. You typically sculpt the polygel in a mold and then apply it to the finger. She tried to tell me the person who did my nails before used a powder and then painted with gel polish over it (not true, I saw how my previous nail tech did my nails and there was no powder used...). I showed her a YouTube video and she finally said she doesn't do that. After checking with my previous nail tech to make sure the powder wouldn't mess up my nails, I chose to allow her to do a fill with fiberglass, because I just needed something to get done. She then requested payment before she painted my nails which I thought was odd. She said it was because I was typing a lot and if I mess up the paint she doesn't want me to blame her (I was getting gel polish so my hands would've been in the light anyway). The paint job wasn't the best, and after she filed my nails the shape looks off. From the start, I had three different people working on me--cut, color, wash, and blow dry were all handed off between them. That already made me uneasy. When the owner first showed me how much she planned to cut, I agreed. But once she started, I was shocked at how much hair was actually coming off. I stayed calm, hoping the blow dry would make it look better. Then came my bangs. Normally, stylists double-check before cutting to make sure the length is right, but she just went for it. Now I'm left with bangs way shorter than I ever wanted. The color was supposed to be a simple solid tone, but the product smelled off and didn't feel right. By the time we got to the blow dry, I was heartbroken. My hair looked flat, dry, and brittle and nothing like the healthy, voluminous look I was expecting. I had booked with them because of their TikTok clips, especially one of a beautiful blowout I wanted to recreate. Sadly, the result was nowhere near that. The whole process felt rushed, with little consultation or care, and I walked out feeling stripped of my confidence instead of refreshed. First, I want to clarify something they mentioned: yes, I've been to many salons before, and in my experience at family run or non-family-run businesses, a single stylist typically handles the entire process: cut, color, wash, and style -- from start to finish. Having my service divided between three different people felt rushed and impersonal, which already set a very different tone than what I was expecting. Second, while I did agree to trimming unhealthy ends, I did not agree to losing all the natural volume from my hair. What I was left with is heavy volume at the crown and very little elsewhere, making my hair look like I'm wearing short hair with extensions. That is not what I wanted, nor was it ever communicated to me as a possible outcome. The reply from the business mentioned that I provided a picture and asked for layers and bangs. That's true, but what I value most in a stylist is professional input! Someone who can look at my hair texture and density and tell me honestly whether a style will suit me or not. In this case, there was very little communication. Aside from a very brief initial exchange, there wasn't much dialogue or reassurance along the way. Finally, while they claim they checked with me at the end, the reality is that I was visibly upset, tearing up, even. But as their last client past closing time, I didn't want to make things harder for anyone. Out of politeness, I downplayed my dissatisfaction in the moment, but I left the salon feeling incredibly unhappy. I've had questionable experiences before, but I've always respected stylists who guide me honestly and communicate openly about expectations versus reality.
