Since moving to Sacramento, I haven't been able to find a nail salon that I really love. I've had some bad experiences in the past and, honestly, I've never been a huge fan of going to nail salons--whether it's because of the service or the cleanliness. Well, Athena Nails & Head Spa did NOT live up to those previous experiences... in the BEST way! Right when I walked in, I was welcomed by the friendly staff. I had an appointment, so I didn't have to wait long at all. I was even offered a drink right away! They have water, soda, or even a little bubbly! I went with the #2 Pedicure, which included hot stones, a leg and foot mask, and a massage. ‍‍ My nail tech took her time and never made me feel like she was rushing to get me in and out of the chair. She did have to step away for a few minutes to help a client who came in for a repair, but she was extremely apologetic and checked in with me. She wasn't gone long at all, so I honestly didn't mind soaking my feet and letting the mask work its magic! For my polish, I went with gel white tips this time. I really appreciated that she asked how thick I wanted the tips because those little details make such a difference! She did a great job, and I LOVE how they turned out! If you're in need of a girls' day or just want to treat yourself to a little solo self-care, I definitely recommend Athena Nails & Head Spa! 10/10! This review is for the way that I was handled. I did not end up getting a service this day - I went to Empire Nails where its far but the owner is always supportive and does there best to accommodate. The morning of my appointment I was late - I was to be there the same time as the opening. So I called multiple times to get through and let them know I'd be there shortly. I sensed the urgency of "okay, please hurry". That is completely acceptable. I arrived and every station was full. I checked in on their Tablet and saw the details if my appointment pretty well outlines but then was questioned about what services I was looking to get that day - which felt like a delay and honestly just uncomfortable - only to be told by someone else that they dont even have anyone that can do what i want and theyd be available in an hour. My response "I called you, I spoke to YOU on the phone, cancel me" Customer service is not about the customer always being right, but life happens, i can deal with flexibility, I'm not gonna be shamed or dealt with in a way that makes me the problem. If I tell you I will be there in a few minutes and you give up my chair without saying, can I create another time slot for you since there is already a walk-in? Give me the option to deal with your adjustments. I was so excited about this appointment. And, slightly embarrassed because the dialogue coming from staff was shifty and placed the whole thing on my shoulders down to disqualifying my service by how I responded to their questions. read more

Beautiful salon, the staff were all friendly and I did not have to wait long for my Pedicure. Midway to the service I asked for Gel X set so they prepped my nails at the same time as my pedicure and finished in the chair. The pedicure was relaxing, I still had some callous spots. I wasn't satisfied with my French tip and I wasn't aware it was an extra $15 charge for. French tip So I called and went back today to redo my polish. I loved the set up of the head spa as they have a full body massager and the person providing the service was very thorough. 5/5 I called and was able to book an appointment same day! The team listened to my request for my manicure, I asked for a builder gel/hard gel French tip set. A previous location made my set super thick and I didn't like that. They listened to my request and made sure that my nails were thin and to my liking. I also got a simple gel pedicure, amazing job. I love how he didn't cut the corners/side (most places do and end up giving me an infection). The staff is super friendly and nice! They seem really genuine and are even offering her a referral fee without her asking for the head spa services because so many people are coming in based on her recommendation. We love an ethical business! This place is Asian-owned, Vietnamese run. I absolutely loved my head spa service with Gem, she was a Filipino woman, and such a delight! I had the Clarity Crown Ritual service and it was perfect. Super relaxing and thorough. The massage chair/bed in the back was awesome and was on the entire time she was working on my head. I also loved the little touches of adding a blanket in case I got cold and a heating pad. There were a few facial-like moments but the products they use are very basic Cerave brands. I also think the shampoo was not of the utmost caliber. But, this is not a scalp massage, nor a facial, it is clearly advertised as a head spa, so expect a bit of everything but nothing in depth. I will say the laying situation made me a bit stiff after awhile, I definitely could not go longer than 30 mins. Also, I was warned that you may be walking out of there with wet hair because the blow dry is extra. In my case, they included it but it was not sufficient for my long hair. Walking out, my hair wasn't sopping wet, but wasn't bone dry either. read more

Once I walked into this salon, I was in pure awe! I honestly felt like I was either on Rodeo Drive or Las Vegas! The service was also, by far, 5 star quality. I felt like a celebrity. The owner, Tony, was very communicative and offered some services, including their new Japanese HeadSpa massage, which looks sooo relaxing! I just didn't have the time to try it out. I called around 5:45 on a Friday night to see if I could get my nails done.. the woman was so nice and said yes come. I got there 20 ish minutes later and I knew they closed at 7. I felt terrible! That didn't stop or change anything. Nancy did my nails-- I did white dipping powder with acrylic! Nancy was professional, nice, funny and so so kind! Every step of the way she made sure I loved my nails. From the shape, length, color. The amazing thing about this place is that it's not only a nail salon. It's also a spa! They offer a wide variety of different services besides nails.. a head spa, facials, etc! I can't wait to come back and get a pedicure! They also offer complimentary soft drinks or water. The salon is absolutely stunning. It's not just clean, I mean stunning. I can only speak to the pedicures as I've only been once and that's all I had done but it was a great experience. My full trust and love for a salon also comes down to consistency so I'll report back as I go more times but for now, I love it. The one suggestion I have is for the techs to exfoliate/buffer the feet longer. Especially since I chose the package that specifically mentions that service. It still deserves 5 stars and the other parts were great but I like when salons really get in there. I obviously go for beautiful nails but I also majorly use pedicures to make my feet look and feel nice for me to then maintain. And last time it still felt a bit rough. I'll be back! :) read more

I have been trying to find a good nail place and finally found one! They are so friendly and accommodating. The head spa was my first service there and it was super luxurious and relaxing. Me and my sister had such a great time we booked appointment for our partners for that afternoon and they also said it was great! 10/10! I have curly hair and they were super gentle and detangled it for me. I then went to get a gel mani/pedi. I was nervous because for some reason no matter what salon I go to, my nails always chip or peel off within a few days. I got my nails done last Tuesday (5/5/26) it is now Monday (5/11/26) While the shop itself is very cute and aesthetic inside, I'm not sure how I feel about my manicure. Yes, he got the job done, but in the process, he cut my pinky on my right hand, and it still has not healed. It is bruised and overall not nice to look at. I'm concerned about how when I started bleeding, he put the tip from the bottle of alcohol (at least I think it was alcohol) directly on my wound which is extremely unsanitary. I hope you guys threw that bottle out and are not using the same one on multiple customers. The ladies (I'm guessing the owner of the shop) are very sweet and inviting, so I understand why they would have regulars and why people come here. Maybe keep some bandaids on hand just in case. Also please train your employees not to cross contaminate bodily fluids as people can get really really sick. At the very least, I think my service deserved a discount. My first time getting nail extensions was two weeks ago, the day before Valentine's Day. I asked for Nancy specifically after seeing a review mentioning her work and came in requesting a Gel X extension set. Nancy recommended acrylic instead, saying it was better because you can get fills. I explained that my main concern was protecting my natural nails because they are thin. She then suggested dip as the best option for my nails. It was confusing to be told every option except the one I came in for was the "best" for my nail health. During the service, one extension was clearly the wrong size and my natural nail was visible along the side. When I asked for it to be fixed, she responded by asking if I was sure I even wanted my nails done. When she removed the extension, she ripped it off instead of soaking it, which was extremely painful and didn't feel safe for thin nails. I later noticed that two other nails had similar sizing issues where my natural nail was exposed on the side. I came in the day before Valentine's Day and just needed something presentable, so I left with the set. While I appreciated being squeezed in, the overall quality and experience were disappointing. As someone new to nail extensions, I felt more like a problem than a welcomed client. They did offer me a beverage during my pedicure, but it came after the entire dip set service was already finished. read more

I was so excited to try this place. With such amazing reviews I was excited to try a new nail salon in my area as I just moved back to Sacramento after 2 years. Positives: The salon appeared very clean and aesthetic, staff was incredibly kind, I was serviced the moment I walked in, and the polish came out beautifully. Negative: I was serviced here 6 days ago. Yesterday I noticed that one of my toes was incredibly red, inflamed, painful to touch and had pus coming out by the cuticle. I have never experienced an infected toe in my life, however I believe this happened due to my cuticles being cut too short/too much! I did not pay attention to see if any of their tools came out of a brand new package (my fault), but unfortunately I did end up with an infected toe. Please allow this to be a learning lesson and reeducate your staff to not trim cuticles too low and that all tools remain clean before each client. I am not asking for money back, I just simply won't be returning due to my experience. Totally up to you if you still want to give this place an opportunity. I am not a person who will refuse to go to a place if there is one bad review. Unfortunately things as such can still happen to a client if improper technique is used. read more
