We had Terry remodel our 1940s bathroom - electrical, plumbing, tile, tub, painting, toilet, sink,…read morelighting, cabinet, exhaust fan, grab bars, counter, plaster repair - the works! It's now been about 4 months since he finished the work and each day I look at our new bathroom and think "wow!' He did a great job! He was patient and always responsive to any questions or issues, and cleaned up each day. Great workmanship too. He started out by measuring and answering any questions we had, offering ideas here and there but letting us make our own decisions. Unlike some other contractors, he did not give fancy 3D architectural renderings, nor did he accompany us to each supplier to pick out products. Here's what his process was, which was perfect for us. We received a proposal contract which listed each item or task, along with a cost allowance for each item. If we chose something more expensive than its allowance, the final price would reflect the increase. If what we chose cost less than the allowance, the final cost would go down by that much. So we had a bottom line price from the start and would have the final decision on expenses. He then also gave us a list of his suggested suppliers from which to pick out all of the products. We worked with those suppliers to make selections at their respective showrooms (they work with TLC regularly), and they forwarded our selections to Terry. A few selections we made were from suppliers not on his list, which was fine, but the places he suggested were where most of the items came from. When all selections were made, he provided us with a revised proposal contract reflecting our selections and revised costs. Then he - not us - did the ordering from each vendor to insure that all of the parts and pieces fit together and would work, plus that way his contractor discount was applied. His final contract to us was transparent and showed all prices. No additional markups, no change order fees, no nonsense. If someone wants computer-generated architectural renderings, having him present at each supplier meeting, one central showroom where every needed product and samples are all in one place, then this type of contractor isn't likely for you. If however, you want a remodeling contractor that not only provides the quote but also does the actual work himself, with reliable suppliers that work with him, with a fair price and a minimal amount of stress (if that's possible lol), then TLC's a good choice. Would we recommend TLC Contracting? If you haven't it already guessed: the answer is absolutely!

Even though my furnace was not making any unusual noises, smells, or setting off my carbon monoxide detector, I was still concerned as no other condos in my building or nearby buildings were having the smoke/steam. The employee that initially inspected by furnace (Carlos?) informed me that the heat exchange was clogged and would require me to repair the furnace or purchase a whole new unit (I opted for a whole new unit based on its age). Carlos gave me the impression there was no rush and that it was not something that necessarily needed to be done immediately. When the second employee (Dave?) came later that day to take measurements and verify the replacement unit needed, he made it seem almost emergent and began to wonder aloud if he needed to shut my furnace off that day. The stark contrast between the two was alarming and created a bit of a trust issue on who to believe. Carlos seemed a little green and Dave seemed like more of a veteran. Dave eventually determined it did not need to be shut off as no carbon monoxide was entering my condo. The whole experience did create a bit of a panic for me though, so I quickly accepted the only available appointment within the following two weeks. It was convenient that they could get it replaced just five days later, but if it truly wasn't an emergency then I would have liked a little more time to verify I was getting the best price as it wasn't cheap (to give you an idea this is the largest purchase I've ever made behind my home, education, and car). They do offer payment plans that were easy to enroll in, one of which has 0% interest if paid off within a year. I'm not trying to throw anyone under the bus, but I can tell they really want an honest review as I've received multiple texts and emails asking to leave one. The crew that showed up on the morning of 12/24 to install the new unit were quick and efficient. They were respectful of my property and explained the new thermostat to me. All the employees were friendly, including the ones running the office over the phone (Micah?).

He also made sure to check out my furnace to ensure there weren't any issues with that - I knew the AC was working fine but he ran a service check on the heat as well. I am a little confused as to what's happening for the next appointment I've set up - is this to gain an estimate on a new heater or to actually install one which is the reasoning for 3 versus 4 star. Tried calling back to find out but couldn't get ahold of someone. I'd like to get a few quotes of course for something like that/have a discussion about the types of options for water heaters.

A few days later we met with Lee, and reviewed Greg's recommendations with him. Lee gave us a reasonable price quote and we were ready to move forward. We never heard from Lee again. Since we didn't have Lee's contact information, we continued to message and call Greg. who was responsive and continued to say that he was forwarding our messages. That's where it was left- we were completely ghosted and wasted over a month waiting. We are highly disgusted with this poor business practice. I started working with her back in mid December 2014-March 2015. It was a MAJOR renovation job, 2000 sq ft, 9 suites, manicure/pedicure area, bathroom, and waiting area, all built from scratch. Custom build cabinetry/countertop with shampoo bowls installed in each suite, new flooring, electrical, plumbing, HVAC system, fire sprinklers, painting, putting together equipments, etc.  It was the most stressful time I went through from purchasing my salon to completing construction in 2.5 months in order to open on time. There were a fair share of unforseen stuff that occured which was out of our control. But Maretes was always quick to work around the unforseen stuff, made my life so much easier because she was on top of every aspect, regularly stopped by to make sure everything was running smoothly and made sure everything was up to code for inspection to pass. She also communicated with me on a daily basis, calmed down my nerves and went above and beyond. She even went as far as making sure the inspector would show up to the salon as scheduled and when that fell apart on the day of (the scheduled inspector called in sick at last minute), she kept calling the supervisor and demanded that they send another inspector which he finally gave in and showed up himself. If she did not go above and beyond to make this work, I would not have been able to open my salon as scheduled! And the best part was I had no idea of the hot mess that transpired that morning until after giving me the good news that I could officially open my salon. That alone shows us what a great, hardworking person she is, that she will take on any issues that arise just to alleviate your stress! I honestly do not know what I would do without her and her team. Another part that stood out about her is the fact that she throughly listened to all of my visions and was not quick to shut down any ideas I had.  If there were any part I was unsure about or changed my mind, she was quick to work around that. I hired her again around end of April 2020 while my salon was shutdown due to Covid. I had to install new floorings due to water damage coming in from outside building (which the condo association is working on). Maretes, her project manager, and her team was able to complete the flooring and repaint within two weeks and right in time to reopen. It was a wonderful experience working with her and her team again. And BONUS, they have a really cool set up where you can check through an app daily and see the progress they made, posted daily updates, information and pictures. I communicated with her project manager daily which was still great and very effective.  I will always stick with Maretes and her team for anything I need, especially future projects. I am hoping to expand and she will always be the person to go to!  She works really hard to be one of the best company, to go above and beyond, have excellent communication skills, makes sure she hires top notch reputable contractors, have trustworthy team staff, and will work with ANY issues you may have. She will always make sure you are left completely happy with the results!!
