I completely understand. My Audi A8 and my son's Audi A4 have been serviced/repaired by him and I was satisfied. We negotiated on some prices or at least options on how I can arrive at a price that was good for both of us. Of course some prices are just the price when you are driving an Audi. He has given me a car to drive when my car was going to be kept longer than expected. My 2014 BMW 650xi Gran Coupe recently went out of warranty. I love the car and want to keep it maintained and operating for as long as possible, but the cost of repairs and labor at the dealerships are ridiculous, so I sought out an independent shop where the labor prices are more reasonable. Based on the positive online reviews, I chose German Auto Works. I was not disappointed. Dennis was knowledgeable and professional about my vehicle and gave the probable diagnosis based only on my description of the problem. This diagnosis was confirmed, the problem remedied and the car drives like the day I bought it. All the work was done at a fair price. I'm surprised to read negative reviews about this place. My experience in dealing with Dennis and his staff at German Auto Works was pretty close to perfect. I have a 2006 BMW 530xi......it had just reached 100k and i was debating whether to buy a newer model or just keep this one and do the necessary preventative maintenance. I love my car......its always be good to me and i've never had to put much money into it. I took the car to the BMW dealer in Rockville Md......they did a full check out on the car for $200 and came back with a repair estimate of $4-5000!!! I always hate having my cars worked on......just since i know its almost impossible to get reasonable pricing and accurate assessments when it comes to what needs to be done and what does not! I found German Auto Works online.....and decided to call and spoke to Dennis. I immediately liked his demeanor and tone and just the way he listened. He is not a salesman nor pressures you in any way....he is however a very intelligent and highly skilled auto mechanic. His pricing was more than half less than what the dealer wanted to charge!!! This was a relief....... They did a lot of work to my car and were quite expedient......finishing in just two days........after taking delivery of my car I noticed something that didn't feel right in the car.....I called Dennis and he was very attentive and told me to bring the car right back in and they would take care of it. There was some apparent collateral repairs needed from all the work that was performed and i know for a fact that any dealer would have charged me for it but Dennis did not. This place is first class......and let me just say that my car feels and drives better than it ever has.......its much more responsive...tighter feeling and just more solid than ever!! 2013 BMW 750xdrive 42k My vehicle had drive train error malfunction amongst other faults showing. Front brakes and rotor replacement warning also showing. Rockville BMW estimate:$12,500. Not only did GAW fix all faults with full tune-up an front brakes, they did it at a fraction of the cost, provided me a loaner, and told me I didn't need 50% of what Rockville BMW told me I needed. I was a little skeptical about contacting a non-dealership repair facility. From the get go Dennis and David put me at ease. They were knowledgable about the fault code I was receiving and provided me with a quote that was over 25% lower than the dealer. They were able to answer all my questions regarding the repair and timing. They also provided me with a loaner vehicle. They answered my questions while the work was being completed and provided me with updates for parts. They even showed me the old parts and explained to me why the issue happened in the first place. I was happy with the customer service, timing and length of repair. I had a few warning lights on my BMW Z4 M and that only says one thing to me; money. I read the codes and they could've been any number of very expensive things. I took it to Dennis and his team, checked my savings account and waited for a call. Dennis called the next day and told me it was a simple fix and it only cost a few hundred bucks. Now, less reputable places could've easily added on expensive items and I would've been none the wiser. I picked it up the next day the warning lights were off and it ran great. Dennis is great he's friendly and knows BMWs. He diagnosed my 2012 BMW 550XI within 48hrs. He and his team replaced my Alternator and had my car back to me on the 3rd day. I've went to other repair shops in the area who told me I needed everything but the kitchen sink to fix my car but it was just the alternator that needed to be replaced. It's not because of their work, I only had a tint job done to my 2006 330i BMW, it's the lack of business sense and apperant lack of interest in taking care of a customer. As I said, I came in just to get a tint, which the guys at German Auto Works told me they "had a guy that they contract with to do that". OK, I had the tint done, and it turned out great. The next morning I get up to go to work and my car is gone from my garage! It had been towed because the tint guy took out the parking sticker to do the rear window tint and did not put it back. It cost me $165 to pick up my car from the tow lot. I went back to German Auto Works to tell them what happened and that I thought they were responsible for my car being towed since their tint guy took out the sticker and never put it back (and never told me he took it off either). I talked to the owner and the best he could do for me was a $50 credit towards any repair! I have a fucking BMW! $50 won't get you very far, plus it's the principle that if a customer comes in and is disatisfied, and has a reasonable point, a good business would ablidge the customer. Long storry short, they lost a customer that would of brought his car for repairs which would of cost much more than the $165 they saved by being stingy! I will never bring my car here again and I have gone out of my way to tell folks I know who own Audis or BMWs not to go there. It's not worth the headache. read more

I have never had such a relaxed and happy experience working with an auto repair company. My wife took her car to German Auto Works and I discussed it with Dennis on the phone. He was great! He explains things completely and you feel confident you have the facts you need to take action. Not only does he do the work for far less than others, he is a true mench. When he couldn't reach me about an additional matter that was essential to do, he charged me the least possible because he knew the right thing to do was to fix the car right. I was lucky to find Dennis. He was recommended by a guy who did a great job on my car at Imperial Auto Body in DC, another fine company I can recommend. Everyone wants a guy they can rely upon when they need their car repaired. Dennis is that guy. By the way, I live in Alexandria, VA but, even though Rockville is not around the corner, no surprise, I plan on bringing my other car there now that's in need of work too. read more

The mechanic I usually use quoted $9000 or more for me to fix my BMW X5. He said I needed to get a new engine or sell my car. Imagine how stressed out I was to be told that. I decided to call other mechanics in the area and after speaking to a couple of them, I called up Dennis from German Auto Works who spent over 30 minutes with me on the phone troubleshooting everything that happened before my car stopped running. He cared about my situation even though he was not sure yet that I would be his customer. This is rare for mechanics! By the time he was done, he assured me that my car would not need a new engine and said I should call a towing company he partners with to tow my car from my mechanic and I would not have to pay for towing until he has fixed my car. After towing my car from my old mechanic to German Auto at night, the next day he called me up in the morning to let me know my car did not need a new engine. To cut a long story short I paid about $1600 to repair my car and I am now a life time customer of Dennis and German Auto Works! Great customer service! read more

I usually goto another shop to get service done. But the shop I usually goto was busy and I needed my plugs changed urgently, so I called up GAW to see if they could change my plugs. Idk who I talked to on the phone but they said they were busy but were nice enough to squeeze me in for spark plugs. When I went there I was told it would take a COUPLE HOURS to change spark plugs. (I've watched the shop I usually goto change my plugs in under 20 minutes). I thought maybe they just wanted to wait an hour for the engine to cool down which is understandable. But apparently it takes 2 hours to take engine covers off (which I don't even have on my car) but I said that's fine. But then I was quoted a ridiculous amount, I came here because the the reviews said the prices were reasonable (wanted 3 times what I usually pay and what is normal at other shops). I told him my other shop charges a lot less and the older man got mad at me started being rude saying he can't make a living on that price. And he kept making rude remarks, telling me to go back to my other shop if it's cheaper. (Well I would've if they weren't busy and I needed this done urgently) Well not only did he make $0 that day, he lost a customer and he's getting a bad review and I don't ever post reviews but I got so mad at the way I was treated and spoken to that I had to write a review. If you need service on your car, go somewhere else. read more

I took my BMW 330 there for an issue and an oil change. After having my car for several days and charging me a couple of grand, the issue was not actually fixed. I was also a bit shocked what they charged for an oil change. Eventually I had another place fix it the right way for far less. I have not been back. read more

I was looking for a shop to do an engine swap for my Porsche Boxster. I called several shops for estimates. Dennis claimed he could probably fix my existing engine. So, I sent my car there. HUGE MISTAKE. He couldn't fix it. Since my car was already there I asked for an estimate for the engine swap with a drop in complete motor that I would ship from the west coast. The estimate was for $2000 dollars which was the third highest estimate I received from the various shops. He sounded nice enough, so i said go ahead. The engine would be there in about a week. They started the job. He then claimed that I needed a new clutch which is a complete lie. I told him the clutch in the car had less than 5k miles and was replaced by TPC (who I should have used for this repair). He then back down on that claim. He then claimed the door lock was not working and that it needed a new latch. The lock worked perfectly before. I told not to repair the latch that I would do that myself. He then claimed the AC condenser on the driver side did not work. The AC worked fine the day i had it towed to him. It's a $62 dollar part and takes less than two hours to do. He quoted $800 for that replacement. I told not to repair the condenser that I would replace it myself. I told him to wrap up the work so I could get the car moving to its next stop. A week goes by and then he says the alarm immobilizer which controls the windows was malfunctioning and the windows no longer worked. All the windows worked fine the day I towed it to him. He said they were working when the car arrived at his shop but just in the last week they stopped working. Yeah right. I said do not repair I'll fix it myself. He chuckled and said, well in this case you can't because you have to be able to program it. I demanded the car back. Paid 20% more than the estimate. And the installation is not done correctly. The rear suspension is rattling meaning he probably didn't put it back together correctly. My key fob that worked fine when I sent it to him is now broken. It works in the ignition but doesn't work remotely anymore. He stole my locking lugnuts and replaced all my lug nuts with rusted out ones. Even though he offered to fix the suspension for free if it was his fault, I will never go back there again. read more

I had my Mercedes Class B service done they replaced the oil and changed the cabin air filter. Later that day when I went home I heard a whining sound coming from the glove box. As I have suspected the cabin air filter was not installed properly in addition to the light that was supposedly connected underneath. I am very disappointed to make things worse the wiper blade they ordered is not even the correct one I have to return back and have them put it in. Based on 3 visits for repairs ranging from airbag light to radiator replacement to extensive adjustments to my ridiculously complicated convertible top (that two other shops could not do correctly), I am totally pleased with GAW. Owner Dennis and service writer Dave are a pleasure - patient and articulate as they describe a problem and its fix. No complaints about prices either - nothing's cheap to fix on a BMW and I've felt hosed by other shops but not here. I brought my M5 there after getting the red cog of death (transmission failure). The dealer wanted several k to change the smg pump and it was out of stock for 3+ weeks. Dennis was able to quickly source and install a new smg pump at a fraction of the cost. Dealers often use scare tactics that small indy shops cant handle the electronics. Don't fall for that tactic. I been going there for years but not anymore because of the owner. Did an alignment for $200 got my car back, my car was still not aligned. Owner said I need new tires. Asked him why he didn't tell me this in the beginning, he thought he did. $200 down the drain!!!! This was 2 years ago.
