I asked for an inward cut, and they used clippers on my hair instead of proper cutting techniques. The ends are uneven, pointed, and not blended at all. I came here to get a haircut and the shop was pretty dirty and had a weird funky smell in it. there was hair EVERYWHERE. I know this is a hair salon but there is hair places its not suppose to be at. The sinks where they wash your hair stinked. I could smell it from the sides, they reeked something i cant describe. But anyways this lady i believe her name was Linda cut my hair. I asked to cut 2 inches off of my layers and trim my curtain bangs to my chin, i dont know if it was miscommunication or something but she cut my hair till about 2-3 inches past my shoulders and gave me what looked like a wolf cut. She also thinned my hair saying it will make it look more thicker i have very thin hair and she made it look more thin. BTW! This is my go-to place for a haircut. I don't ask for anything crazy or stylish. All I get is a layered V cut. It's such a simple cut, but no one can do it right, but Dung. I've been going to her for years and it always turns out great. She's usually busy so walking in doesn't work and making an appointment ahead of schedule is best. For someone who had their first haircut here in Houston, I'd say that they did a decent job. My haircut didn't turn out completely bad, but there were some downsides to coming here. First off, the hair wash doesn't seem like a good wash where they actually make sure it's clean. Using 4 different types of shampoo/conditioner didn't help with the tangles that I had nor did my hair smell good. Second, they use a comb that has a razor blade inside to cut your hair which I've never seen any other hair salon do. And lastly, I was so scared of getting my face burnt when the straightener was being used on me because the person doing my hair wasn't really paying attention. read more

I've been here several times, got some blonde highlights done by Dung and they were ok so then I figured she knew how to do blonde and came back to do my whole head blonde in which I paid $90 for and had to re-dye it again the next day a darker color because she made it look orange. Given that she's really sweet and I needed a quick trim, I stopped by a couple months later and received the second worst haircut or my life. She made my hair look thin and my bangs were the worst part! They were super short, I freaking look like a boy. I am originally from Houston, so I used to go here a lot before I moved away. The moment I moved away, I knew I took this place for granted. In the last 5 years, I have not been able to get the same quality haircut anywhere else. I've tried Chinatown salons in other cities. I've tried really expensive, high-end salons. I've tried hipster salons. I've tried places similar to Great Clips. I've tried beauty schools. After attempting all these different salons, not a single place compelled me to return. Expo Beauty Salon is the only salon that I regularly return to and get a haircut at, even to this day. Any time I am visiting Houston, I will make any excuse to get a haircut or color. I go to Yong. So many times, I've gone to her for coloring my roots, and she doesn't even have to take time to match my hair and knows exactly what color it is just by looking. She is always booked, so you have to call at LEAST two days in advanced or you might be lucky for a spot that's between 1PM and 4PM on a weekday. Coloring takes about 45 minutes. Haircuts, probably 15-20. And the absolute best part about my haircut is that it's $18. That's right, $18. It includes shampoo and dry. That's crazy cheap for the best haircuts I've ever had. Add in dying my hair? It was only $60 and that's including a cut (at least in 2012; things may have changed). In terms of bang for buck, I will probably never see anything beat this. The only reason I give four stars instead of five is that it is very far from my house and unless you have an appointment or you will wait at least an hour. This place is located inside of HK4. My boyfriend has been coming to see Dung for many years. She knows exactly what to do to his hair. Included with the haircut, you get your hair washed as well for 14 bucks if you're a guy. Because my boyfriend trusts this woman with his hair for many years, I've decided to give her a try. Dung is a nice lady. She listens to what you want and executes it perfectly. I showed her a picture of how I wanted my bangs and she did it to fit my frame. Trang Nguyen cut my hair here. I am satisfied because she actually gave me a medium fade like I asked. Wish she shaved it a little but closed to the skin but the hair cut was really well done. Horrible if i could give it 0 stars i would i showed the male hairstylist with orange hair and small tattoo on his arm a picture of what i wanted. Asked for a trim and not a cut. He cut my bangs way to short and tried to hide his excuse by leaving the sides long and said to me it is like the picture i showed when it clearly wasn't. He knew he messed up and tried to make me believe he didn't. I told him since you messed up my bangs over and over again to just cut my hair short anyways. After the cut he tried to point at the floor and say he barely cut anything off. Im sorry but this hairstylist NEEDS TO GO BACK to hair school. This place is great. I'm very picky about my hair and I went to another salon before this one and I asked for a bob do and they just chopped it off, it didn't even look like a haircut and it looked like I tried cutting it myself with child proof scissors. I came here after going to a friend's house complaining for an hour and dung (the hairstylist name) was actually able to fix it! I love doing different and funky hair styles and she's the only person I trust to do the blonde(or color for that matter) for my hair. I'm Vietnamese with extremely dark black hair and she is able to make it actually platinum blonde, not that ugly orange tint blonde that a lot of Asian people have that attempt trying to do blonde. The hair dressers are completely inexperienced. I brought my 8 year old child here thinking that they would be good because I saw quite a few people in there. When my child walked out though, she was given an extremely short bob cut. The kind of style that is typically seen on middle aged women. It was so short in the back that all of her neck was exposed. The bangs in the front were also extremely short. First off, I had asked for side bangs. Secondly it was a good inch above her eyebrows. They were also very strayed and were sticking out in every direction. And when I told the hair stylist about it, she just laughed it off as if it were a joke. Now my child is crying and I shall never go here again. I don't recommend this place at all. There are a lot of other salons that can do better. (Btw it was a good $25.) read more

Ok so i've been here ever since the hong kong city mall was opened, and my siblings we all get our hair cuts there, and the lady Lan (Lynn, only blonde asian there) she does all of our hair. She usually does my hair, because i dye my hair alot, at first i liked her bc i thought she knew what i liked and the colors that i get and the cheap price she gives me (like half the price of american salons) but recently she's been taking advantage of me as a long customer and she never takes her time on my hair but rushes all the time and talk about washing my hair, she yanks my hair and gives the WORST SERVICE now, i just cant stand it anymore, now im changing my choice of salon's regarding the low price, the service there is too bad, and all the workers there, the asian ladies gossip too much about you. read more

I've been going to Dung at Expo for the past couple of years, but many of my girlfriends have been going to her for much longer. I've even sent some friends to her to get perms and cuts. Dung speaks English so don't worry about communication problems. She is also good at giving her expert opinion on what looks good and what doesn't or what is easy to maintain--things I prefer the hairstylist to tell me rather than just always giving me what I want and having it turn out to be a disaster. They've raised their prices recently ($17 for short hair and, I think, $25 for long), but this is still cheap for the quality you get. Dung has cut my hair when it was long, when it was layered, when I got bangs, when I bobbed it. I went to her when I chopped off 12 inches of my hair to donate to Locks of Love, and even though I had to cut my hair hella short (I'm talking about a bob where the back of my do was right at my hairline), she made it look great. The best part was I didn't even have to style it for months to come because she cut it just right according to the way my hair waved so that my hair always curled inward without so much as a blow-dry or straight iron or hair product. Dung also colored my hair when I asked for soft highlights for my wedding. (Full highlights with cut only costs $60 or so.) All prices include a shampoo/condition and styling at the end. Unlike some other salons, Dung actually honors her clients' appointment times--I've never had to wait more than 15 min. Will be going to Dung so long as her prices don't rise too much. Afterwards, you can grab a bite in the HK mall looking fabulous and foxy. P.S. A tip on how to pronounce Dung's name if you don't speak Vietnamese and want to avoid sounding like a jackass: it's like "yoo-ng" with the "D" sounding like a "Y" and a long "u" sound; rhymes with "vavoom" as in, "Vavoom, look at that hot chick with the hot hairdo go!" read more

Maybe it was my hair dresser. Ladies, if you are tired of looking hot or have recently been inspired to sport an uber-dykey, dog-bitten look (think Katherine Moennig, not Amber Heard) this is your place! I came here based on 1 recommendation, asked the woman for a trim (1-2 inches) and walked out with something between a shattered looking mullet and bob. It looks like a bob from the front and a mullet from the back. Yes, I know it's hard to picture but the hair stylist gave me one and told me it looked 'good.' I pray that potential employers will still take me seriously when they see me. Having gone from cute to boy/girl/androgynous homo/hobo in one afternoon, I spent the rest of the afternoon with lots of expensive hair products in the bathroom trying to fix the issue. Finally, I can walk outside feeling somewhat pretty but I sure don't have time to do this everyday. I've been getting my hair cut at Expo off and on for a few years now. After going to some cheaper places and some with the same prices, Expo definitely has 2 of the better stylists I've experienced. Victoria does a great job and this lady with long, blonde hair does fantastic work as well. The way these 2 ladies cut, your hair tends to grow into the style and look even better with time. I always let them know I don't have time to style my hair so they give simple, easy to manage, yet still stylish cuts. I really recommend Victoria and the lady with the long, blonde hair. I came in today and simply asked to get bangs. Except that wasn't what I got. The blonde lady who had cut my hair was so condescending when she had finished...*telling me repeatedly* that I couldn't take care of my hair (I asked for Korean-like bangs and my bangs didn't look anything like the pictures I had given her). What did that even mean? My hair is little to no maintenance, and yet she acted so patronising (was it because I looked childish and/or that I didn't know any better???), telling me that I looked "good already", when it CLEARLY shows that she botched it. When I reluctantly asked her to have my bangs slightly thinned out...she said I wouldn't know how to take care of it. Unfortunately, $25 thrown and my bangs look chopped, uneven, and unkempt. I didn't ask for a hair cut but she did so anyway *lowkey screaming why why*. I'm just so embarrassed by the way I look that I decided to just use bobby pins to hide the bangs, until it grows out. Never coming here again. Thought I'd dye my hair here as well but this place is a JOKE. Next thing y'know, I won't have any hair left. Please don't go to this place if you're looking for a haircut. Never going back! I went for a color -Medium brown. I came out with Red, Orange, and Blonde Hair!! This is result of Over Bleaching it TWICE! Nothing resembling Med-Brown! They showed me a book. Jenny said this version of brown would look good on me. Didn't tell me what color it was just pointed to the book. She said since I colored my hair at home, they would have to bleach it. Jenny said it's so hard to get the color out. She had to bleach it twice and use some 40 level bleaching too! My whole head felt like it was going numb. She also was very rough with my hair..pulling it hard and yanking it. Long story short..my hair looks orange, light blonde in some areas. Anything but med brown version I pointed to in the book. Plus I am worried what kind of damage she already done with my hair bleaching it twice!! Totally not the color I asked for. I had a hair cut to do trim layer. Whole thing cost me $120 and now I have reddish orange hair!#! Going to talk to the owner/manager today! Seems like a Beginner with NO Experience with Coloring hair!! STACY CAO is the owner of this Horrible place. She is very Unprofessional, Rude, and in business to Only rip her customers off.
