Really happy we found this company. Our unit was leaking and I had gotten a quote from a different AC company quoted $1,200 and 1-2 hours of work. It felt high, so I got a few other opinions. Express quoted 600-800 but I really appreciated how genuine the owner was about the work scope, so we had them take a look. it ended up being 780 plus tax so 835, which is outside of the quote but not unreasonable. and obviously 50% cheaper than the first company. If my husband were still alive to advise me, I would have used a credit card. I would have asked for a written guarantee. I would have asked for pictures. But I was cold! And the company, Express Refrigeration Heating and Air, had great reviews! They offered to install a new part for my non-working gravity heater the next day at $3,700.00 and orally guaranteed it for 10 years with the promise of a fix for two years after the installation if anything went wrong. Shivering, I happily accepted the word of the technician. I am repenting in leisure. When the work was done, and the technician, Zack, told me that, if I wrote a good review on Yelp, they would pay me $25.00----in the form of a gift certificate to eBay, Amazon or an online company of my choice---I got a different idea about all those great reviews. The heater stopped working 6 months later. Fishing out the invoice, I saw there was no written proof of a guarantee. I took the tech at his word and hadn't checked. Again, I was cold! When, after many calls and an email, David dispatched a second tech from Express to assess the problem, he told me that water was dripping on the new part and that the water had ruined it. He charged me $80.00 for coming out, saying the failure was my fault. None of this was written down. The technician said he could get me another part for $3,700 or install a different heating system for $15,000. Either way, he said, the $80 would be applied. Now the nickel drops. The dawn breaks, and I hire an inspector to tell me whether there is a leaking pipe that I need to repair. The inspector told me there was nothing leaking on the new part, in fact there were no water pipes anywhere near the furnace, only gas pipes. He also said that the technician had installed a red bypass wire, a temporary fix at best. So this review. To alert others. 1. Ask for a written guarantee. 2. Use a credit card so you have recourse. 3. Read the invoice before you sign. 4. Ask to see a photo of the area. 5. Do the opposite of what I did. I'm still cold. I bought a 6 ton Carrier commercial unit from these guys in August of 2023. It has now developd leaks. I called then 4 times. One time a person said they would look up my file and get back. That never happened. After that one call I only got voicemai. I left messages explaining my issue, and asked for them to advise when they could send a technician out to look at the unit. I got NO REPLY whatsover. I will now have to try to get another company to diagnose and fix this. I am fearful that the unit may have been defective at the outset or installed improperly since it is new enough to not have developed issues this soon UPDATE The company finally sent a service technician and diagnosed the issue. I called Express Refrigeration on a Tuesday around noon about our condos' rooftop HVAC units causing the whole building to shake. An hour later Carlos arrived at my house to assess the problem. Carlos was extremely friendly and took the time to explain the problem (compressor needed a jacket and plenum needed an expansion chamber to disperse vibration). He made sure I understood and was comfortable before signing off on the work order. Carlos put in the parts order that day and returned four days later for the install. Carlos was again exceptionally friendly and professional. The outcome of Carlos' work was nothing short of miraculous. Previously, if we turned on either HVAC unit, the entire building would rumble and disrupt our sleep. Now we could run both units at full blast and not even know they're on. After being quoted a price WAY above the market rate by another company for replacing my outdated HVAC unit, I decided to get a second opinion with Express Refrigeration Heating & Air, and boy am I glad I did. I spoke with Zack Kubi over the phone, who quickly scheduled a free on-site evaluation with Carlos Garcia. Not only did Carlos do a very thorough and efficient evaluation of my entire HVAC unit, but he also discussed ways that I could save money, for example by NOT paying hundreds of dollars for a crane to carry the outer unit to the rooftop since Carlos's crew could carry the unit up the stairs themselves. Carlos patiently answered all of my questions and treated my HVAC unit like it was his own. When I asked Zack for a quote, he wrote a thorough proposal of what was going to be done and offered a price that was HALF the price that Greenstar offered. Yes you read that right, HALF, thanks to Carlos cutting out unnecessary costly procedures like using a crane. After the new HVAC unit installation was completed (and it was efficiently and beautifully done), Carlos explained to me in detail everything he did to successfully install the unit, and even put in an openable return grill so I can easily access and clean the unit. We tested the new unit together and my condo almost instantly felt cooler, whereas before my condo would not feel cool at all even with the cooling setting on. Carlos noticed that some of the paint on the wall around the unit peeled off during installation, so he stayed later to touch it up for us. I am not an expert on air conditioning. All I know is we had two units go out within the space of a week. One repair firm, who came out before the second one failed, quoted $13,000 for a new unit. The other repair place quoted replacement of both units at $25,700. Zack at Express Refrigeration came out quickly and suggested fixes that cost $10,000 for both units. TL;DR I was scammed by a technician at this company. They admitted it, partially refunded me and then used several tactics to get me to remove my review, including bribes, threats, and lies that they later admitted to. o-o-o-o The following is a true account of my experience with this company. I have edited it to be as dispassionately factual as I can make it; I'll let you draw your own conclusions. This guy came and fixed my AC, and billed my landlord $1700 for the work, saying he needed to open the compressor to change the starter and then refill with R20 refrigerant at $100/lb. Firstly, R20 is $15 per lb (google it). Secondly, you don't need to open the compressor to replace the starter (google hard start capacitor and relay - I didn't know this at the time). Thirdly, somehow he never needed to take any tanks up on the roof. The AC worked when he was done though, so I just let it be. A week later my girlfriend called him and he told her the exact same thing - it would be around $1300 to fix her AC in addition to the $95 service call. She decided to just swallow the $95 and called someone else; they put a new relay and capacitor in ($50 in parts) and that solved the problem. I became very suspicious about the huge bill he sent my landlord and started researching hard start capacitors and realized there was something off about what I'd been told - that's when I first wrote this review - originally a one star review. [UPDATE] Today someone from the company contacted me through Yelp, identifying himself as "David" though the message comes from a "Cassandra". The message says they hired a temporary technician, and during his time there, he was caught running scams, and fired. So the company has admitted that they scammed me, this isn't an exaggeration. The message gave me a phone number to call to make things right. Oddly enough the phone number belonged to the same guy who came to my house. The guy who was identified as a "Temporary technician" is in most of the company photos and is identified as Zack. The same guy shows up in the whatsapp contact photo associated with the phone number I was told to call. Suspiciously, I read other people's reviews and I see similar experiences recounted by other people: "He replaced my starter and had to refill my old R20 so it was expensive but now it works at least."...interesting. [UPDATE #2 if you're still reading] After a few long winded messages through yelp, assuring me I was talking to a David and not Zack, and also that Zack wasn't the problem, the problem had been Joe and Joe was fired now (even though it was Zack who came to my house)... the company refunded my girlfriends service fee, and corrected the overcharge to my landlord. I was about to remove this review in light of the move to make things right, when my girl called me and let me know that she had been contacted multiple times today with requests to remove the negative review. This extended as far as threatening legal action if we don't remove our reviews from yelp immediately. When I contacted him via yelp to ask about this, he told me I'd be paying thousands of dollars in lawyer fees for this review and that he'd already talked to a lawyer. The "temporary technician", "Zack" and "David" all sound the same, look the same, and have the same phone number. He refuses to facetime to identify himself. I'm updating this review to three stars for the restitution of the money that was defrauded, but I'm leaving my account of what happened. This is just a straight up account of what I know - you make your own conclusions. [UPDATE #3] I'm quite over dealing with the nonsense fallout from this at this point, but I just got a notification that my photos warning other would-be patrons have been reported and removed. Since my last update, the person I was messaging with admitted that he had lied to me about his name and that he had been impersonating other people, and switched tactics to explaining how bad things are that he has to do this thing where he scams/cons/lies just to survive. Sad if true, but hard to believe at this point, and no excuse for stealing in any case. read more

We only trust Express with our HVAC needs in our commercial west Los Angeles building. We had problems with interior positive air pressure for months and no HVAC company could help.
