I don't think we've ever had a smog test done this quickly... in and out in 5 minutes and passed with flying colors. $41 for the test; pretty reasonable in my book. Of course, we came at the end of the day when Vick (the owner) was getting ready to close up, but he was nice and took us in. Also gave us some good tips on where to find nearby supermarkets with DMV kiosks to get our registration sticker. The only thing that kinda bugged me was that Vick wasn't wearing his mask even when talking to us, but luckily we stepped back far enough and there was plenty of ventilation around the place since it's practically all outdoors. read more

I needed a quick star certified smog test this morning before work and I called a few places in pasadena and Vick was the best deal I found! Plus as soon as you walk in he's going as fast as he can which is helpful with the doing this before work! I really appreciated the $40 price as well as the quick good service! Vick was so sweet and fast and even gave me a tip for turning in my smog test as I was leaving! When I left I gave him a small gift and he gave me some fresh Armenian coffee!!! Vick lived up to my expectations from other 5 star reviews. He's polite, professional, friendly & knowledgeable. I drove by for years & was ignorant of his business. If it wasn't for Yelp,I would have missed out again. He was only one of the 4 business of the first ten that actually had a working smog computer for my 1989 Toyota! Of the first ten Star rated smog checks listed! He was also tied for the least expensive & offered a free retest. Unfortunately, My car did not pass. Wow glad I read reviews on how awesome Vick was. I had called someone else for a quote and the dude was rude and was gonna overcharge. Nope. Fastest smog test ever! In and out (with my two daughters-infant and toddler) under 10 minutes. Fair price and electronic submission to DMV. No hassle! Vick worked like a machine yet was still friendly and got the job done. No games or gimmicks or trying to sell you on other services. Straight forward and to the point. I needed a star certified smog check for vehicle registration renewal and just yelped whatever was close by. Came here in a Saturday afternoon and Vick helped me out. He was so friendly, quick and efficient. He even recommended some places I could renew my registration at a kiosk so I didn't have to wait for my new stickers! I found this spot with the help of Yelp users and decided to stop by since I was in the area getting my tires serviced. For the past 8 years I have been going to a test station in Eagle Rock, but I am sooooooo glad I found Vick. He is super friendly, super honest, super thorough, and lightning fast without compromising accuracy. The bonus, he charges almost half of what I have been paying at the other spot. I have now found my new smog test spot as I need to smog two cars with alternate years meaning I will need to do this every year. read more

There is not much more I can add to the previous reviews, except to say that Vick is professional, courteous, speedy, competitive in pricing, and a pleasure to do business with. I have been to Express Smog twice, once with a friend, and a second time with my own car, and both times the whole process didn't take more than ten minutes! Smog test results did not appear in the DMV database. I got a different smog test at a different business on the same day, and that smog test is already in the DMV database, so I know it is not a problem with the DMV. I feel deceived because he told me that I should go to AAA if it does not appear in the DMV database, before he even handed me my test results. Like he knew ahead of time that it wouldn't work and just didn't want to tell me that his system was broken. Smells fishy. read more

If you want an excellent job done, go see Vick. He was extremely cordial and professional. He explained all the steps and actions to take to get my registration done (even though It's provided on my DMV form), but best of all, he only took 15mins and charged me 50 bucks!!!! The price may vary based on vehicle size. I definitely will be going back to see him the next time the state decides to loot my wallet. And boy, do I love being called "Sir." Express Smog Test Only is a STAR Smog Inspection center in Pasadena, CA, serving our community since 1998. Trust the professionals to provide prompt service with honesty and integrity. Express Smog Test Only Center offers emission testing and certification of any car as required by the state of California. Cost varies depending on type and year of vehicle, and covers one free retest if vehicle fails, please call for price quote. For trucks more than ¾ tons and up, RVs, and vans, pricing varies. Please call to hear about our specials. Calls placed within 15 minutes prior to closing (after 5:45PM Mon-Fri, 3:45PM Sat) will not be taken, but no appointments are necessary, walk-ins are always welcome until close.
