Today I received a wax from Sara. She also did a great job! She was very nice and chatty throughout the wax. She has a slightly different approach from Lin. Sara waxes very quickly. Nothing was sacrificed in her technique, but it was different from Lin's more slow and gentle approach. I would still recommend either of them for a wax. It really just depends on which style you prefer as a customer. read more

I have been getting bikini waxes since I hit puberty and Brazilian waxes for about a year and a half now and today I finally came in to Express Waxing at my sister's recommendation. My appointment was with Sarah, and she was so thorough and kind! It was. By far the least painful Brazilian wax I have ever had. Her attention to detail is much appreciated. This place is borderline mystical. The women who work here are beyond sweet (as in, I've been greeted with a hug before), and they are somehow able to provide nearly painless waxes. Best place to wax ever. They are super thorough, it doesn't matter who helps you everyone is courteous and professional. I go here for my eyebrows and Brazilian and I have extremely coarse hair (sorry for tmi) which makes waxing/shaving etc a huge pain. I get so much razor burn and ingrowth it's just a mess, this is the only place I've been that takes the time to all those short little hairs that become ingrown after waxing. Also they gave me some really good self care tips to prevent infection and ingrowth and razor burn. Making and cancelling appointments is super easy through Yelp with them and the pricing is fair especially for the services. Side note I've heard parking is a pain in the butt there- I walk so I wouldn't know from experience- but just leave a little early to find a spot on the street close by. I've been meaning to get a waxing done for quite some time, and so I finally got them done when I was hanging around the area. I wanted a location that was within walking distance of Ballston metro, quick, relatively priced, and good. I found this location through Yelp and ticked off everything on my checklist that I was looking for. *Ditto to what Dominique R. has said about their service and having issues with appointments. The location is in a pretty prime spot, just a block or so from the metro station and surrounded by restaurants. On the corner of a building (didn't take a hard look at what it was for) and easy enough to find. The interior is nicely decorated, brightly lit and relaxing enough. I made an appointment for 12:30pm through Yelp and received a confirmation email from Yelp ("booked by Booker"). When I walked in, I wasn't sure if this was the right spot and as I asked the people at the counter if this was "Express Waxing"..the lady interrupted and asked if I had an appointment. Oookay..I'll just assume it is. I told her I had an appointment at 12:30 and told her my name, she appeared confused and checked her phone and notebook. Another older lady with glasses came by and the front desk lady asked (I'm assuming), and she too had to look through her phone. I told them I had booked it through Yelp and FD lady asked to see it, so I showed her the confirmation email. Apparently that was good enough, but as the older lady went to lead me to the room, the FD lady continued to hold onto my phone, looking at it. I almost thought I was supposed to keep it at the counter, until I held out my hand for my phone back. Took a little too long for her to be holding onto a customer's phone. The waxing was okay. I asked for a "medium" amount of eyebrow..not too much taken off but enough for shape. I did feel that she used A LOT of wax itself, but what do I know. Overall, the shape is fine, my upper lip wax was also just the bare of what I needed. $25 for a brow and lip wax, which isn't too bad. read more

I've never written a Yelp review before, but Sarah is the BEST! You will walk out feeling like a queen. As soon as I walked in and told Sarah it was my first brazilian experience, she immediately hugged me and said "Honey, be strong!" She makes jokes with you the whole time and the experience is completely painless and FAST (when they say 15 minutes online, they aren't kidding). I've since then been back multiple times for eyebrow threading/waxing and more brazilians. Every time is just as wonderful as the first. Sarah will make you feel like you're one of her best friends all while telling you how beautiful you are and without the typical pain of waxing. I live in DC, and commute in to see Sarah. I heard a lot of great things about this place and its owner Sarah, so I booked an appointment and waited 2 weeks in order to be seen by her...Sarah. But when I got there, it was like a bait and switch, Sarah was not the one who performed my service which was totally disappointing. If I wanted some random to do my service, I would have not waited those two extra weeks, just sayin'. My brazilian went fine, but when I got home and took a shower I realized that I still had wax on me and parts of my nether regions were stuck together. Can we say "Ouch"??? Overall, my experience was okay but I cant see myself as a repeat client. As a side note, I would suggest that the tech make sure that the bed is locked before inviting a client to lay down.. Scheduled an appointment with Sarah based on personal recommendations. I am still kind of nervous about waxing, so the personal touch is crucial for me. - I showed up early and spent a bunch of time looking for the place. They should be a little more clear that they are actually within Salon Istanbul, as in, you won't see any separate signs, etc. - I introduced myself and told them I had an appointment with Sarah at Express Waxing. Another woman took me into the back. I assumed she was Sarah, but the personality didn't seem to mesh with what I was told, so I eventually asked. She still didn't introduce herself but said that Sarah was too busy to see me. Huge red flag... - I went with it, for lack of other options, until mid-wax she told me (rather rudely) that because I had been thrust onto her schedule, one of her other clients was waiting, and that client was clearly more important to her, because she asked me to go out into the lobby and wait while she attended to that girl. So I sat out in the lobby, sticky and uncomfortable, while she took the other girl back. - When she had finished with the other girl and I was back in the room, she apologized about a million times and proceeded to complain about how the booking schedule is set up, as Sarah waxes way faster than anyone else and how do they expect the rest of them to keep up? Found this pretty unprofessional and awkward... - She did a mediocre job... When she couldn't get the hair out, instead of tweezing, she went over and over with the wax (and oftentimes still didn't get it out). Consequently my skin is SUPER irritated now. - That said, the price was good and she did kind of try to be friendly with me towards the end (possibly sensing that I was regretting the appointment and wishing I had gone somewhere else). read more

Okay, Sara makes it easy for one to get addicted to "waxing". I have been going to see Sara for about 4 months now and here it is mid-November and I am still getting waxed as if summer was right around the corner. I started with just a bikini wax and now I leave with a Brazilian, legs, and underarms. She definitely makes the process easy and as smooth as possible (pun intended). Very considerate about your comfort level and very knowledgeable about up keep until your next appointment. Very clean and hygienic. No double dipping, clean towels, surgical gloves and mask. The place can be a little hard to find but nothing GPS couldn't handle. Parking can be desired but I have always been lucky enough to find a spot right out front. Just be sure not to over feed the meter because Sara is just that good and fast. I will continue to make the trip from suburban Maryland all the way to Ballston. I will not be going anywhere else. Went in for the first time to get my eyebrows and legs waxed. I'm usually very hesitant on trying new places because I am unsure of how sanitary their practices are. Let me tell you, Sarah (the owner) was amazing and made me feel really comfortable. She used a new stick every time she dipped into the wax, which made me feel at ease about how clean it was. She was also very friendly and made me feel at ease! And made sure it didn't hurt. (Some places I've been to has burned me with their hot wax.) It was such a great experience. I've been to this location twice, once before and recently after the salon's renovation- and both times were great. I've had Mimi both times for a Brazilian and a bikini line waxing and her trained hand prevented any pain, pulling or stinging. The staff accommodates walk-ins, but its probably best to make an appointment (either by calling in or making an appointment). "Express" is in the name- the session is fast and well done. read more

Normally I will not even consider a wax from inside a small nail/hair salon like this (I have heard horror stories), but Sarah's good reviews persuaded me otherwise and she truly is great at what she does. Also, she is quick and empathetic, talkative, and very nice. She works out of a small room with, yes, stark, fluorescent lighting, and you do disrobe while she is in the room; it is called express waxing for a reason, but I'll take quick quality at my convenience versus some posh, overpriced salon and spa. *Another reviewer pointed out that the entrance is on the corner of Randolph and 9th. This is important to know, as I don't remember any signage saying "express waxing," but rather her operation works out of the Istanbul salon.* read more

So far, I have only had Mimi as my waxer and I WORSHIP her. She is so sweet and kind. She does such an amazing job and I am always satisfied and elated when I walk out.
