Overall, good place. Dan is nice, and not to mention he's kinda yummy and easy on the eyes (lol). For the overall operations, the rates are still a little high, but I like some of the flexible options. The biggest reason for 3 stars is the kiosk that never works. What was the point of the company spending money on a kiosk out side, that you can't actually use after business hours??? Of course I can always call and make payment or do online, but that's extra time having to type out your CC number and everything else. The point of a kiosk like this is to simply tap your card quickly, and go. The card reader says "Ready" but when I go to make actual payment, I always get this error message in the picture. They need to fix it once and for all. Has been like this for months. Maybe because not many people use it, but for those of us that do us it, we want it to work! Sometimes in the middle of the night on my way home, I just want to stop by and pay the bill right quick without having to go online or stop and pay over the phone. The Manager Dan is a kind person who really cares about his customers. He took very good care of my Dad and our family while we stored items here. The gate access is till 10pm which worked well for us. Many other storage facilities have a much earlier cut off for gate access. read more

We called first and the lady on the phone was very nice and well mannered. She told us what was available in sizes and cost. She was not at the actual location as she was at the call center HQ. She gave us the direct number to the location of interest. We called and again a well mannered agent answered the phone. He told us price and availability. We showed up the actual facility and was greeted with a smile. Dan introduced himself and was very friendly. We explained what we needed, from there he showed us a storage unit and gave us a price. We accepted the price and unit. When filling out the paperwork he explained everything in detail. Even the fact that the price will go up in six months. No hidden cost or run around. For me, Extra Space Storage worked beautifully. Because of problems I have been having recently with my home and the work I do for others in terms of community advocacy and sheltering, I had almost decided to leave my house for a while and especially to rent an office again. My abusive neighbors call the Alameda County Sheriff's Department anytime anyone approaches the house for help. I actually went out to a motel a couple of days ago just to get some sleep. In the meantime, it occurred to me that I could take my possessions into storage and it would be a hell of a lot cheaper and faster. The young man at the front desk was wonderful and also quite honest as he admitted that renting a more convenient unit would cost me more than double the amount. Still and all, I rented a space for a reasonable amount and packed it with boxes of books which I have to either donate or find room for in my library. I give the young man five stars but not so the storage outfit, which should not be taking advantage of customers. read more

ANOTHER rate increase while facilities continue to go down hill... I have now been with these crooks for 5 years because of the proximity to my home, when I moved in rent was $160 it has just been increased to over $280 and with the homeless camp they are allowing behind the building on their property, there has been increased burglaries to units - ACSO knocked on my door 5 days ago asking for video from my system because theirs is so bad. They allow homeless people to use small lockers and on a number of occasions I have had to deal with these people bothering me and looking in my unit while I was visiting it. The new management has taken the place to new low's and with the recent increase in rent and reduction in agreed visiting hours I absolutely will be leaving, the convenience simply isn't worth it. My friends unit at competing facility less than a mile away has seen NO increase in rent over the years and actually values their customers, so I'll go there and deal with the slight inconvenience. And the person on site refused to look at any of the video footage saying he didn't have time?? Bogus! Don't rent from here unless you want your stuff stolen with no help from anyone to find it. Dan we moving out of the storage and this is the voicemail I get from him. We are not done moving out just had my brother and nephew go on a lunch break and he goes off on me over the phone. Saying his going to charge me and am violating the less and they will send me to collection. The reason we are leaving is stuff Is melting due to there so called air conditioned building that's so hot inside no one can bare it for a few min to even check. So this is now how u leave a voice mail. Like u can see on the picture on my iPhone. So evening knowing there ac units are not working they still rushing people. Instead of going out of his office or calling me hey Luis you guys left some trash by the trash can you can't do that. Unless you like to get your sweat on, find a place with complimentary AC. Upon moving in, I noticed there was no air conditioning. The thermostat mounted to the wall claimed it was 90º on the third floor! I met a man in a neighboring unit. He said he'd been there for years and the AC had never worked. I complained to the manager. He was already aware of the issue. The General Manager came, days later, in response to my Corporate phone call. The Gen Mgr said he was also aware that this has been the case for "at least two years." They promised to fix it, but I didn't believe them. I moved out within 30-days of moving in. The Manager refused to refund my Admin fee. I wanted to stay. It was just too hot inside the unit. read more

The space is MUCH cleaner and feels more secure than spaces I've used in the past. Everything is easy to access - elevators are large, there are lots of dollies, plenty of parking spaces. read more

We are remodeling our kitchen and having house repainted. They auctioned my stuff without notice. I lost my job so I knew I was behind on my bill, so I called and spoke to Shawna and I asked how far behind am I? She says 71 days. I said okay I will come in and pay, I said can I pay half of what's due? She said sure, come into the office. This was on Oct. 11, 2019. She could have said "your stuff is set to be auctioned if you don't come in by Oct 15th"! So, I go to office on Sunday and they are closed. Since I did not know my stuff was set to be auctioned I went on about my week...thinking well I will take care of it the following week. The following week I made my way to the storage again and the sign said "We'll be back at 1:00" it was 1:30 ish. I left and I later called and spoke to Hanna. I said Hanna, I just tried to come pay for storage bill, she said your stuff has been auctioned. I said What? I was sobbing by now very upset. I said what happened to the notices she said we sent you notices. I asked to where? They had the wrong address. Okay so what happened to a call? We called you last week. I got the one message it just said they called, but no urgency was put on the message. Long story short they made no effort to contact me to let me know my things were up for auction. They have three ways to contact customers, telephone, email and US Mail. Shawna and Hanna need new jobs! They were also not very empathetic...they let me know they have 700 customers, so they can't be expected to contact everyone to inform them your possessions are being sold. read more

Location good, rates reasonable, but the lady (Shaunna) working today was incredibly rude, and does not understand how basic reservations work in most industries (it means you have a reservation, not you have one unless someone else books it after you do). Also I wish that the extra fee of insurance was listed prominently on home page of website, or at least when you make reservation on-line (not in fine print in any future e-mails). In my case, this insurance would almost double the rate I am paying. And why require insurance at all? Just have buyer sign form that releases storage company from liability. We have our stuff stored here, so they know we cannot move easily 2) my unit is located next to the main street. The shutters to my unit does not close 100% down. For more than a year I've rented storage space at this facility, and I've been impressed with the staff's unfailing courtesy, thoughtfulness, and willingness to go above and beyond. When a family crisis erupted while I was switching from one unit to another, they were memorably kind and helpful -- and tactful, too. We kept our belongings here during a transition, approximately five months. During that time we never had any issues. Cheap rent and move in. Service elevator sucks and destroyed the arm of my couch, because you can only stand the item up. It ripped the side of it. Kind of bummed because it was brand new and a pretty penny. Whatever, it happens. I did see a break in once during this five months which left an uneasiness. All and all it worked out for us, the rent was set to increase when we left but during our stay we found it to be cheap. read more

DO NOT RENT HERE!!! I have watched a friend of mine suffering after her storage unit was robbed. Though the thieves were caught on camera (after designated hours of operation and with the security light out only in front of her unit) the manager claimed my friend was one of the persons tearing through her own goods and loading them into a truck...in fact when the sheriffs were called and arrived Shawna told them that my friend was 'disruptive' and on 'mental health medication'. My friend had been renting their for a year without incident and always paying her rent. The district manager Todd was of no help. It was more important to protect their reputation than to get justice. This facility is also connected to a mobile home park allowing traffic to go in and out at all hours. It is their operating procedure to allow entry at all hours and do not lock the gates at night as they advertise. DO NOT RENT HERE!! read more

I gave 1 star since most of the workers there are polite, knowledgeable, and very friendly. However, I would have given ZERO stars with how my situation was handled. I felt that the company was inconsistent with communicating information on renting out. They had originally advised I would get a full refund after canceling today (Monday--three days after Friday when I initially had signed up); however, not even 30 min after being told I'd get a full refund, I was informed that "unfortunately, per manager, they would reimburse me only half". They failed to even provide any rationale as to why I only get half the refund as opposed to a fair, prorated amount. They just simply said that since I didn't cancel the same day or the next that I pretty much was out of luck. I even left a voice message Sunday (when they are closed) indicating I had an account issue and I didn't even get a callback. I am in disagreement with how this company "resolved" my account with no option for a prorated refund or anything. As a military veteran, I fought for our country's freedom which includes justice; however, from this horrible experience, I received none, not even any compassion or sympathy. I will never rent from this company again. I feel that they care more about business rather than the customers. I highly DON'T RECOMMEND THEM at all and would pursue business elsewhere! read more

I've rented here twice now and had excellent experiences both times! The staff is very friendly and helpful, I truly enjoyed interacting with them. The facilities are exceptionally clean and well maintained. It is easy to get to your unit, plenty of carts to help ice your stuff, and great facilities. Everything is well lit and they even have music playing inside! Most importantly, I feel safe going to my unit even at night.
