I apparently have too much stuff and to avoid over packing my apartment, I decided to look for a small storage unit. After much research, I chose East Bank Storage due to price, location and general accessibility. Given the nature of self storage, I didn't factor in the service aspect, but have since been overly impressed. The staff is friendly, responsive and went above and beyond to help me with unloading my car. The storage unit itself is basic, yet temperature controlled and is exactly what I need. The building is clean and the elevators are massive. While the standard hours could be a bit better, I'm very happy with my storage experience at East Bank and would recommend it to a family member. read more

East Bank Storage is something else! The property is well-kept throughout! The location is to die for! The staff is wonderful! And, the loading dock is steps away from the elevators, which incidentally, holds a queen-size mattress and box spring easily to transport to your floor! I have many photos and will try to post the best one to illustrate my point that EBS is, and should be, your choice for storage! The staff, Linda & Jose, are steps away as they have an intercom system from each and every floor for assistance. The lift is tricky to work the first time, but that's about the least of your worries. And, did I mention, that even the bathrooms are clean! The units are clean, controlled and the people here are just good. It's not fancy and new and you have old school elevators. It's also not 24 hours. I dropped off my extraneous belongings here in a storage unit back in June 2007 and never looked back........ Fast forward 3 years, and here we are today. I figure it's time for some spring cleaning. Fearing the 3 years of dust accumulation and maybe moths (stated by another Yelper), I popped in a couple Claritin tablets and headed over to East Bank Storage. I went up to the storage unit, opened the door, and...... Walllllah! Everything was the way I had left it 3 years ago....literally. No dust (very surprising), no moths, no bugs, no mold, no madness. I was quite pleased. Spring cleaning was a breeze. It took me only 10 minutes. I have to highly recommend EBS for storage. Service was very accomodating on my return today. Minus one star for the price......it is pretty pricey (about $100/month), but you know what they say.....you get what you pay for. You'll be thankful. read more

I used East Bank for about six months in 2014 when I moved here from London. As a consequence I had to arrange everything remotely, but everything went seamlessly. When I arrived I also received great custom service. The building and lockers are good with a 8' height. Most lockers have wide, garage type door openings, although some are standard size, which you should avoid if you have large pieces of furniture. There is a dock that the container lorry that held my things could back up to. I am now planning my return across the pond and need to put some of my possessions back into storage before I leave the USA later this year. Linda who manages the place was really helpful. She took me up in the elevator to show me the unit, she clearly explained the payment terms. East Bank offer certain months free-of-charge, dependent on how long you intend to stay. Their opening hours could be longer, as others have commented on, but overall this is a very good storage facility. read more

This review mostly pertains to the U-Haul rental experience I had here and not to the storage facilities. I called this place based on its location because I needed a van for a short period to move a large item. They were friendly and professional on the phone while taking my reservation, and I don't have any problem with their staff or their facility. My main complaint is with U-haul itself and the stupid reservation system they have that makes one wait for ages on hold before putting you through a Kafkaesque experience. So I reserved a cargo van for an in-town rental. It is $19.95 for the day, plus 79 cents per mile. What they did not say up front (which is the only problem I had with the staff at this location) is that they also charge for mandatory insurance, which is an additional $10. The frustration arose when I tried to change my pickup location. I called the location and was told I needed to call the U-haul reservation line. when I did, I was on hold forever before I was told that because I wanted to switch to a southside location I needed to call the reservation line for their southside locations. They transfered me over, and I waited on hold again for another eternity. When I finally got on the phone with someone, they told me that the southside location I was interested in (that I found online in a listing of all their Chicago locations) was closed. Another one did not have vans available. So I had to call the northside reservation line again to confirm my previous order and confirm again with the location I originally chose. I am tearing my hair out, grateful at least that I happened to have the time to waste on the phone with them. Long story short, I arrived and picked up my van at the appointed time. I suppose I got them back a bit by changing my pickup time several times (which is possible to do by calling the local number--no hold time with them). The van was pretty new and clean. It did the job I needed, but of course everybody knows that it never costs just $19.95 to rent a van for a few hours. My advice: borrow a friend's van instead. read more

We've really enjoyed our experience so far at EBS on Lake. It's very convenient to our building and we've had wonderful interactions with the staff. They have competitive pricing and we got our unit on special for buy-two-months-get-two-free. Well-maintained interior and loading docks make getting our things in and out really easy. All visitors have to sign in and out so the staff are aware of who's in the building. Well lit interiors and carpet make it feel cozy too. I've been a long time customer and the service has gotten better since the change in management. I've gotten pretty good service over the years, but in recent years the service has been really great with Mike on the staff and Linda as their current manager. Violet who previously manager wasnt that great, but I think her issue is learning to work with the public in a supervisory role. Overall, the service is great and having been a customer for over 10 years says a lot.One thing they can improve on is extending the hours until 6p M-F and 5p on Saturdays and 4p on Sundays to give people extra time to come there if they work late during the week and weekends. read more

Watch out storing your valuables at East Bank Storage on Lake! We kept all of our belongings here for over two years while we lived and worked abroad. The place seems very well-managed but when we had a serious problem, we learned that the management must not have any interest in maintaining the quality of the building or keeping their clients satisfied. Let me explain. After storing our belongings for two years, we returned to Chicago for a brief trip (this was January 2010). We noticed immediately that our storage space was full of moths, the kind that eat/destroy wool. We believe the moths came into our space from a different space (all the spaces are open-air at the top so pests can travel from space to space). Much of our wool clothing had been ruined. Although the manager on duty apologized and promised to reimburse us for damages and have the moths exterminated immediately, East Bank actually did neither of these things. A different manager emailed me a month later saying they would not pay for any damages and actually told me that they did NOT have moths in the storage building at all (basically insinuating I was a liar). I was still abroad at the time and could not go there personally to talk to them, and they stopped responding to my emails. When I came back to Chicago in March 2010, ready to move all my stuff out and into a new apartment, we found that the moth problem had escalated. There were moths flying around all over the 2nd floor of the building and hundreds were piled up around one space in particular. We believe the moths originated in that space. I brought up the manager on duty to show her all of this. She seemed very surprised and said she would have the upper level management take care of it and offer me suitable reimbursement. However, again, nothing ever happened. They offered me next month's rent for free, but they knew I was moving out that month! They refused to reimburse me for past months' rent, even though I had notified them of this problem in January. Not only was I angry and disappointed that they would ignore the legitimate demands of reimbursement from a LONG-term customer, but I am very concerned about their total failure to keep their facility free from pests and vermin. The moths are now a huge problem for everyone storing stuff at East Bank. I hope they see this review and realize the business they may lose as a result of their shoddy management and inaction. read more

I recently moved my belongings into East Bank Storage in between apartments and closing on our home. The folks at East Bank have been truly accommodating and flexible. My husband and I swung by their facilities during their open hours to take a look at a variety of storage unit options and were able to place a two-week hold on our unit until our move-in day. Instead of paying for unused days, we were able to sign our lease on move in day and only pay for the prorated remaining days of the month. On move-in day, we realized we had more belongings than what would fit in our reserved unit and were able to switch units right then and there. Only bummer in the exchange was minor, we had bought packing supplies from them (only to discover we were given the wrong sized mattress cover) and could not return as we didn't have the receipt. read more

I have used East Bank Wine Storage for three years and am very pleased with the service and storage facility. Wine is shipped from various wineries and arrives at EBS, they put it in the mail locker or put it in my locker and I don't have to haul wine from my house to the storage facility! Voila! I am also invited to wine tasting throughout the year, compliments of East Bank Wine Storage. I have yet to attend due to personal scheduling conflicts but the invitations are always elegant and timely with the seasons. I once knocked over a magnum of wine and broke the bottle spilling red wine and glass all over the floor-it just happened to be Christmas eve at 4:00 when I was scrambling to get things done. It was cleaned up immediately and they could not have been nicer about it-although i felt horrible doing this at closing time on a holiday. I do not plan on having to visit my unit, but it is available 24/7 if need be! Big bonus. I've been renting from East Bank for a couple months now. I choose them because the location was convenient and when I stopped in to check it out everyone was professional, the storage units were clean and the prices were reasonable. Moving my belongings into the unit was hassle free. There were always dollies to use and working elevators. I was initially worried that it would be crowded on the weekends since they are open for limited hours, but I never had to wait for a spot in the loading dock or even wait for an elevator. Overall, I am very happy with East Bank. The reason I did not give 5 stars is because of the limited hours on the weekend, the extreme heat on the upper floors and the slightly higher than average (but as I said still reasonable) rental prices. read more

I've been using EBS on Lake for the past 5 years since my wife made me get rid of an old storage locker in the suburbs. It was a great decision - to move into this climate-controlled location with easy access from our condo in River West. The storage space has been convenient, clean, and well-lit for my needs. The lockers also have a good height for stacking - but protected from other lockers on either side. You'll need to make sure that your access needs for the locker fit with the storage facilities hours - which are traditional business hours during the week, but weekend hours are good. I know I need to get rid of more of my "stuff" so I can reduce my storage space needs at some point, but while I have the extra "stuff" requiring storage, EBS is my storage center of choice. read more

They offer a variety of different sized storage units at fairly reasonable prices, will hold wine that you have shipped to the facility and invite you to semi-annual wine tastings. I've rented a small storage unit at East Bank Storage's West Loop location for over five years, since I moved in down the street at Lake Street Lofts. It is secure, clean and temperature controlled; I don't worry about my stuff. It's almost as convenient as having basement storage, with good weekend hours and a highly convenient location for walking, biking or driving. East Bank has great parking and access for loading and unloading by car. I've spoken with several staffers over the years and all have been friendly and helpful with anything I need. Some have better features. I chose East Bank primarily based on the level of professionalism and customer service I received. I emailed them late one night regarding availability and the next morning I had a thoroughly detailed reply in my inbox. The location itself is in a nice and safe neighborhood. I decided to check it out and the facility itself felt nostalgic. Lots of old brick and unique elevators. The units are very clean and modern. After receiving a nice tour from a lovely young lady I was given the opportunity to hold a unit at no cost in order to weigh my options. I went ahead and signed a lease and am very happy I did. The only downside is limited hours of availability but I understand that. I would recommend to anyone. read more
