I just signed a very expensive monthly rental agreement this week, and the first time I showed up to the unit the entry door wouldn't open. Many other people were outside with us also unable to get in and after being on the phone for 20 minutes I was told that I should call the software company that controlled the gate. Is that something the customer should have to do?? I told them I didn't have time and they said they would note that we couldn't get into our unit and someone would call me back to help us with the situation, and nobody ever did. I grow more and more irritated with this company every month. I first started renting my storage space from here about a year ago, only because they have the "first month free" special, and prices seemed to be pretty fair. DO NOT GET SUCKED IN BY THIS. My rental price has now DOUBLED. There's no parking other than a couple right next to the entrance/exit. If you try to park inside the gates, you will have employees hassling you to move your car, even if there are no open parking spaces. The last straw for me is the fact that there is a dumpster on site, but paying customers are NOT ALLOWED TO USE IT. I find this absolutely ridiculous. How am I paying over $100/month for a storage space and you can't even open you dumpster so I can throw a couple of smaller items away. I will be moving out of this storage unit ASAP. read more

DO NOT STORE YOUR BELONGINGS HERE! My husband and I had a unit here that was broken into. We had a double unit and was told we had to use one of their locks for one of the doors. Our storage unit was ransacked! Who ever got into the unit had time to punch holes in every box to scrounge for valuables. We called the Sheriffs and when they took our report they told us that this storage unit has had numerous break ins. They shared with us that the break ins are probably an inside job that someone must have keys to their locks. When we asked the manager about cameras they said they don't keep cameras in the hall ways (our unit had an indoor access). We immediately moved our belonging out of this establishment. Full disclosure the staff are very nice. If for some reason you still want to give this location a try make sure you get a unit that has access outside where the cameras are located. Ask about their policy of insisting they sell you their own locks, sounds fishy to me. If I could give this place zero stars I would. read more

After I vacated my unit, The office personal sent me a Bill demanding I pay them for "piggy backing" thru the gate and not entering my entry code in the keypad.This was during the time that one of the 2 electronic Entry gates was broken and vehicles entering and exiting were backed up. I refused to pay, and they called and said It was going to sent to Collections.I told them this was not on the Contract I signed and asked for clarification as to where it was on the Contract.The heavy set lady at the office told me it was only enforced at this particular Extra Space storage,but I still had to pay or they were going to send me to Small Claims Court,,I said Lets Go. They harassed me excessively over the phone for a couple of weeks and finally stopped. I reported this incident to the Corporate Headquarters. read more

Not a happy momma right now. Amidst this coronavirus we all have made sacrifices and at some point been upset, but this company hit an all time low. Being healthy essential travelers for work, my husband and I brought our special needs son along on this trip. We had to stop at Extra Space storage and while there, my autistic son needed to use the restroom. I took him up to the front and asked if he could use their restroom. The gal said no. He started crying and she said she wasn't allowed to let anyone use it. I told her he had autism and would be fast. We had our masks and everything on too. She didn't care. Here is my son, about ready to have an accident that would embarrass him and cause him even more distress during this difficult time and she did not care at all. I don't always hope for people to make exceptions to the rules but at the same time I hope the world would stand together and help each other. Elena the assistant manager was rude and unprofessional. If you pay late they will lock your gate code and even after i paid Elena did not release the gate code after 2 requests while I had movers waiting. When I complained she had a bad attitude with me and said the customer is not always right and said thats what happens if you pay late. Very poor training and low quality service. They lost a big customer today if only they were courteous and professional! Good prices, but guess you get what you pay for! read more

I've had no complaints about them until the time I vacated my unit. The office staff was friendly, and the location was close to my home. I called the office a few days before my rent was due and told the person that we're moving out a couple of days after my rent is due and asked him how much I need to pay for the two days. He said it was OK and that I didn't need to pay. Great, I thought. Then a few days after I move out, I get an email from them saying that I'm past due on my rent. I emailed back and explained the situation. Then someone from the office called and said I need to pay. Fine, I have no problem with that. I was going to pay before. What I did have problem with her tone. She made it sound like I was trying to skip out on paying rent. She said there was a record of the phone call but nothing else. She seemed to imply that I lied about my moving-out date. I really did not appreciate that. Whatever happened to customer service? Also, resin (or some sticky stuff) dripped from the ceiling of the unit and damaged some of my items. So make sure you cover up whatever you're storing in there. The place is also pretty empty most of the time and didn't feel really safe. read more

Horrible horrible....STOP STOP if you value your stuff!!! Someone broke into my storage and took there time ....over several days ....changed my lock and almost completely cleaned me out! The cops came and they advised me they have taken over 30 reports of break-ins at this location!! The police said they would never put anything in this location!! I tried to have the company check the cameras and they wouldn't but they confirmed this happens all the time! WOW no warning, I felt completely violated....thousands of dollars of my personal stuff I was saving for when I buy my home...GONE:(.... It seems to me they could check to see who was coming and going or carrying my stuff out. The stuff was heavy and in large boxes, they would have to use a dolly and have a truck along with at least 2 helping. I had one of a kind stuff that could be easy noticed but no help the staff!!! Someone did this who felt SAFE someone who knew my comings and goings someone who knew they could take there time uhummmmm makes you wonder also a recurring issue make you wonders if it's really another customer or if it was a drug hype as the employee stated?????? If you value your things do not put them here...this company has nothing in place thar can help there customers feel somewhat safe!! I will be moving my stuff ASAP PS the insurance doesn't cover a third of what was stolen!!! read more

This place is HORRIBLE the units get broke in too EVERY WEEK ,and I got that information straight form the POLICEMAN that took my report he said that he personal wouldn't ever use this storage facility. They put money in remodeling it, but nothing for security. I was taken for over $5.000 if you care about your stuff STAY AWAY. read more

Very pleasant and a great deal. They keep very clean. I am very pleased with ESS in Hawaiian Gardens and the location is only a mile away.

I love this facility, mostly because of the staff. Elena is wonderful. She's friendly and welcoming every time we come down. She even remembers the names of all of her customers! Lots are always clean and well taken care of. It gets a bit hot in the summer time, especially upper units, but my items never seem to be hot. read more

If I had to leave a review on customer service I would give them 5 stars hands down. I have never had an issue or problem with the staff, they are all very helpful and courteous. However, the purpose of a storage unit is to store items for safe keeping. MY UNIT WAS BROKEN INTO AND VALUABLE ITEMS WERE STOLEN.They cut the lock and replaced it with one of their own in order to keep staff from noticing when doing their evening rounds. I deal with quality vintage so these were one-of-a-kind pieces and custom up cycled so they are irreplaceable . Among other items that were stolen; vintage genuine mink coat, vintage decorator items and misc shoes and clothing. Like Leila P. everything was ransacked. When I asked about camera's I was told there are none. What??? RED FLAG! to women working by themselves in their unit. My items were stored in extra large plastic bins so who ever broke in had full access to the facility and were able to carry out these large bins without being detected. Most likely they also rent a unit in the facility. Then to make matters worse the insurance coverage for loss or theft that renters are forced to pay each month will not cover the true value of your items. I submitted receipts, invoices, photos and I was still not paid close to the true value of the items. Even with depreciation taken into account the amount offered was a joke!! If you value your items and your safety my recommendation is to find a facility that has 24 hour camera security and keep in mind just because you have insurance does not mean you will be paid the true value of your items. Take photos, file receipts, file invoices. In other words cover your a**. read more

you cant get a sprint signal out there. so if you get mugged you cant call the police cuz theres no signal. they have a bunch of homeless people living on there. the homeless wait on their bicycles until a car puts in a code & they follow the car. your better off renting from another place that is safer. another person wrote their stuff got stolen. read more

i just rent a 5 by 10 storage unit at extra space storage in Hawaiian Gardens, the customer service was excellent, Leticia and her husband are the friendliest people . I had called around trying to get the best price and by far this was the best price. the facility was clean. although my unit was on the second floor it was easy to get to and just as easy to bring my stuff to the second floor. I really like the fact that they had equipment there available for you to use to move your stuff from your vehicle to your unit with easy. I would recommend this facility to everyone.
