Easy access despite the painted arrows when you're turning into the private road which leads into the storage facility. The arrows are facing the opposite the way to accommodate access to the keypad which I think no one actually uses, since we all have access codes entered via smartphones. The storage spaces are adequate and it's well kept. Always smelling great and spotless. Uboats/dollies are always almost available. Enough parking spaces as well. read more

Rat infested and flooding facilities should be the new name of this place. I do not recommend putting anything of value here! My storage unit flooded from a pipe leak above the unit, and every item in the unit grew mold and mildew (see pictures). I also added insurance prior to moving into the unit, but the Manager, Jesse, "forgot" and when time came to make an insurance claim it got immediately rejected. I took a huge loss, and no one was helpful. District manager, Danny, said it was not their responsibility to help me recover any damages. read more

Started leasing a unit in March of 24, in July of that same year they doubled my rate due to "market conditions" I looked this up and they upped the rate as soon as they were legally allowed. Then just got a notice one year in that they were doubling my rate again. Not to mention the maintenance of elevators and other common areas at this location is lacking. read more

Rented a unit in March and moved our things in. Only three months later, we've just received notice they are (literally!) doubling our monthly rate. They have our email and phone info of course, but we got the notification via a postcard. The postcard says their rates are "adjusted depending on current market conditions." There's no way "market conditions" caused them to have to double our rent in the last three months. read more

I secured a climate control unit in the basement at Extra Space Storage the 4950 Nicholson Ct. Kensington, MD location. The day I contracted the storage unit and guided to the space, I mentioned to Jessie Rogers, the store manager, that I smelled an odor. He didn't comment. On September 10, 2020 I went to the unit to move out. I hired movers to pick up and load my items. When we arrived at the facility, it was down pouring. I took me at least 4 minutes to access the call box, it was malfunctioned. I ended up getting soaked from the rain trying to get the call box to work. When I went to access my unit, I noticed an intense mildew smell in the lower level as I got off the elevator. And when I accessed my unit by my surprise, my belonging where covered with MOLD. See the ATTACHED PHOTOS!!! After the movers empty the unit, I had to go to Home Depot to get boxes. It took me 4 1/2 hours to unpack and repack the items that I could salvage. And I got charge a HEFTY FEE for the having the MOVERS overtime! Also, it was obvious the management/owner knew there was a problem with the facility. WHY WOULD THERE BE A SMALL DEHUMIDIFIER THAT READ 90 DEGREES PLACED IN THE HALLWAY (see photo) NOT EVEN A SYSTEM FOR A COMMERCIAL BUILDING. When I called the storage facility to report the incident the next day, ALL Jessie said was sorry and come into the facility to file a claim. In person, I asked Jessie, did he know there was a problem with the Storage Facility and how did my unit get mold. He said "THE AIR CONDITION HAS BEEN BROKEN FOR A WEEK, and IT WAS GOING TO TAKE 2 WEEKS FOR THE HVAC VENDOR TO COME OUT DO REPAIRS-THE VENDOR WAS DELAYED DUE TO COVID. I asked why DIDN'T HE NOTIFY ME OR THE CUSTOMERS IN GENERAL THAT the AIR CONDITION WAS BROKEN. He said it's NOT IN THEIR POLICY TO NOTIFY THE CUSTOMERS. So, no HUMAN REGARD FOR PEOPLE WHO MAY HAVE THE ENTIRE HOUSEHOLD ITEMS STORED IN THESE UNITS!!! ESPECIALLY DURING THESE UNPRECEDENTED TIMES....So, it JUST ALL about BUSINESS!!! I submitted a claim for ABSOLUTELY NOTHING, all I received was I AM SORRY...I spent 4 1/2 hours trying to salvage my belongings and incurred a hefty fee. I paid for my storage fee in advance for the YEAR and to get I am sorry. Nothing was reimbursed. I also called the DISTRICT MANAGER, BUCK HOWANSKI A COUPLE OF TIMES AND NO RETURN PHONE CALLS. This is the treatment I received as an Extra Space Storage customer. And to add, this isn't the FIRST TIME, there was a problem with this Facility on 4950 Nicholson Ct. Kensington, MD location. Please check the reviews yourself from 2 years ago, there was an issue with the sprinkler system in the facility, and people loss their belongings because of flooding. This place is a no for me. Climate controlled storage included it being close to freezing cold in the winter and warm and humid in the summer. Elevators were barely working every time I was there. Old building that needs to be redone top to bottom. When the sprinklers went off one Thursday night, some renters weren't called until the following Monday. I saw some very unhappy people that day. Luckily it didn't affect what we had in storage. It only affected a couple of levels. There was some water around on my floor but not in the actual unit. That also meant that I probably would have never known there was that big of an issue if I didn't happen to be there that weekend. Prices weren't much better than the Extra Space River Road location. River Road is much nicer but is run by horrible people. I liked the people here a lot better but the building is just no good. Tough to find a good storage space run by Extra Space for whatever reason. read more

Never though i would be hailing a storage unit, but this place is AMAZING (the one on Nicholson, i believe there are others, but i do not know anything about them). Every single person, down to the last, has been beyond helpful. Nobody ever rushes you, and they take time to make sure all your questions are answered, and all concerns (should you even have any) addressed. On top of that, they are fun to talk with. Friendly, interesting staff. And the manager Jesse is the best. Hands-on managers are few and far between, but this man is everywhere, doing everything, going out of his way to help. Moving and finding a safe, clean place to store one's belongings can be quite stressful. The personnel here know how to take your stress away. I am most impressed! read more

This facility is shady and lures customers in with a "teaser" rate that they QUICKLY jack up significantly. I rented my unit for $70/month, and after two months, they increased it to $120/month. The facility also flooded and many tenants lost their belongings. DO NOT USE THIS FACILITY!! read more

Not much has changed since Extra Space bought out the former storage place - Storage Village. It's been several months, and I have been waiting to see if my rental rate will be hiked to match the current rates. They still allow me to pay by automatic deduction from my checking, which is hassle-free. The only thing new that I don't like is that they leave the security gate open during business hours. All tenants have a passcode to get in, so I don't understand why not provide the extra security. The guy at the desk said that is what Extra Space wants. Still, it is cheaper than other storage facilities in the area (for now). read more

I had a great experience moving in to Extra Space, especially after a disastrous attempt to move into a different storage facility a few weeks ago. Jesse and George were very attentive and helpful; they remembered who I was as soon as I walked in even though I'd only spoken to them on the phone. They made sure that I was aware of all the policies and any other important information about storing my things at Extra Space. The actual storage lockers aren't climate controlled (or at least, not all of them are), which made my move-in rather chilly, but that wasn't their fault at all, obviously. They had plenty of carts in various sized for me to use and the hallways were clean. George demonstrated that they keep customers' security as a top priority. I usually do not spend my time writing reviews, however I believe in consumer rights and good business practices. One of the four generally accepted basic consumer rights is right to be informed (the others are right to safety, right to choose and right to be heard). What Extra Space did not disclose to me is that the price for a unit I signed on will change. More specifically, the price of the unit will increase about 5 months after I started renting, and potentially once more about 9 months after I start renting. I thought it would a nice to do to share that with other potential customers. What I find troubling is that I was told today by one of the staff on site that "they are not required to disclose this information to their customers, and so they do not. And they are doing what everybody else is doing in the industry." Sad, but ok. I do not think that this should be the reason why Extra Space should not practice the corporate values of honesty and transparency. More and more customers, like myself, want my own values to align with the values of whatever company I'm buying services from. I would like to hope that staff hired by Extra Space, including the man I spoke with at this location, has or gets training on what good business practices are. When I landed on hard times because of a job loss and fell behind on my storage rent they assisted me with making payment arrangements until I was able to recover. Writing this review mainly to say how exceptional the service Jesse Rodgers, Store Manager, provided. He was very courteous, organized, quick with the paperwork and explained very well what the process was. While I was there I saw him painting, cleaning, following up with other customers, etc. Saw him often walking the site and he was always willing to help answer a few questions I had. His assistant was very helpful as well. The site was clean and easy to move in and out of. There always was at least 4 or more carts available in the main lobby to the storage units and next to the elevators. There prices seems very reasonable when I asked although my stay was short and did not spend time to shop around. read more

Extra Space Storage offered much more competitive pricing and are also very close to where I live while my old unit was quite a few miles away. I really like how it is month to month rentals and your first month is free (even though you have the one time fees). At first they seemed helpful. I lost my job and fell behind on payments. Instead of continuing to be helpful, they decided to be shady. I spoke with the GM Jesse, and his assistant GM George and worked out a payment plan; or so I thought. Right after making the last of 2 payments the GM says they cut my lock off so that they could inventory my stuff. That is shady. If we work out a payment plan AND I PAY YOU, you don't then go and cut the lock off of my unit. The following month I was 2 days late and they put another lock on my unit. This place is run by shady, underhanded people. I feel as though they go out of their way to auction off your stuff. I'm disappointed that the managers lack integrity. I would rather give my stuff to Goodwill, than continue to pay these shysters . They also arbitrarily add fees and increase the monthly rents. I strongly advise that you avoid this place. read more

I had a vehicle stored at this storage when it was Storage Village. Since Extra Space bought Storage Village out they have a different policy that won't grandfather me in from Storage Village policy. I was force to move my vehicle out because the vehicle has to be insured, register and tags on the vehicle and in running condition. This is my first time using any sort of public or self storage facility. But in years of helping friends move in and out of said facilities, I've always noted that the property managers usually seem disinterested in or just all around unpleasant. This property however has a great property manager same name Jesse. He called me within minutes of having spoken to the sales folks over the phone. Guided me to their facility via the phone and a text message. And it was super pleasant when I got there. He walked me through my various options and help me select the right unit for my storage needs. He actually walked me to various units around the property to make sure that I had selected the right one even though he didn't need to do that. He was super helpful and knowledgeable and made my selection and experience rather pain free. Definitely give Jesse and the facility five stars. read more

Customer Service is excellent. The facility itself is always clean. This location has the best carts I've ever seen, they allow for easy moving and very little back and forth is necessary. They are so big I typically only make one trip to my unit which is awesome. The location is easy to find and property is always neat and tidy. read more

I had never stored stuff outside of my home. It was easy to get to, less expensive than the others and they treated me like a King. After the tour I asked again where the space was. Rather than tell me B2, George took me there again and pointed out where it was by emphasizing the buttons he was pushing on the elevator. We went today to put a few things in storage. Everything was perfect. We used their cart so we only made one trip. It was there waiting for us. The lights are on timers to conserve electricity but are at all the doors so it was easy to see our way in and do our business. Thanks for making it so easy. read more

Extra Space Storage worked with me for my needs and I couldn't have asked for a smoother experience. The facility is kept clean and well maintained and the manager, Jesse, was exceptional. I had to change storage units and go to a larger one and they made the switch so easy for me. They have dollies for you to put your things on to take to your unit and were always available to answer any questions. I had called around to many of the storage facilities in the area and none offered the customer service like here and I would recommend them for anyone who needs to store items outside their home. read more

Very reasonable prices for storage given the area and location. The site is under newer management and the manager, Jesse Rodgers, is extremely helpful and professional. He is willing to spend the time to get things right and worked patiently with me on the application even though the pc was a bit slow that day and I was a bit ornery after work that day. We opted for a nicely sized 10 x 5 in the climate controlled area and so far its working out fine for us. I've rented in several storage facilities. This particular facility is very old, visually dingy, and has a real problem with carts being unusually hard to steer over thresholds - the one at the exterior door and the one at the elevator entrance. It reflects very poorly on the Extra Space brand. By contrast, the manager Jesse is top notch both in encouraging business and purchases for the company and in going the extra mile to help customers, even if it means staying a bit late on a Friday. I'd rate his performance a 5. The lower rating is purely a reflection of long overdue changes that need to be made to update this facility. read more

The property manager, Jesse, promptly called to confirm the reservation, and when my wife and I arrived at the facility, Jesse was very helpful and pleasant, walking us to our unit, and making sure that we had selected to right size to meet our storage requirements. He carefully guided us through completing the rental contract, and arranged for convenient automatic monthly payments. There are several good-sized carts available for use in transporting items from vehicles to the units, and we have had no problems in moving in our various items. All in all, it was a hassle-free and pleasant experience. Jesse and the facility fully deserve a high rating, and I would recommend it to others looking for storage options. read more
