Very negative experience. We have had our unit for over 2 years. A few months ago. I tried to get into my unit. (using the lock that was sold to us by the company). The key wouldn't work. I went and spoke with the front desk and there was nobody on site that could cut the lock. I was told they would call me when a cutter was on site. I waited and waited. A month later I called and complained that we were still waiting. Bertha had said come by in a couple of days and I'll cut it off. We did and she cut the lock. Our unit was ransacked, family heirlooms were broken and an expensive bike and helmet were stolen. I called the police and filed a report. Bertha said she would go through the camera footage ( I never heard back from her on this). Ive been paying for insurance on the unit. I filed a claim. I've been requesting information on when the claim would be resolved. They will not respond back to me. I reached out to the corporate office twice and they would research and get back to me. To this date, NOBODY has gotten back to me, Nothing received from the insurance company (which is outsourced). Basically we were lied to and made broken promises and we are out quite a bit of money. I do not recommend this company. EMILY S. - I tried to all twice and got your companies VM - left message. Nobody available by phone or chat. Again...EMILY S. I tried to call again. NOTHING BUT VOICEMAILS! Still Waiting... Since no one has responded, I have filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. read more

If you value any of your belongings, DO NOT store them here! IF it were possible, I would give them a negative star score! My unit was broken into, and the entire company has been completely useless and they continue to stone wall me about pertinent information. Besides the fact that there are some 15 open cases of theft/burglary at this and the other location in Palm Springs, the cameras at this (2055 Executive Dr) were conveniently not working not only during the period of my unit being broken into (my things were stolen between a Wednesday afternoon and the literal Saturday morning of the same week, barely two days and a few hours later in July ), but going back for weeks and weeks. The thieves of my unit cut off MY lock and put on one of EXTRA SPACE STORAGE'S keyed locks. HMMMMM???? That's when I knew something was wrong when I drove up to my unit and I could see it was not my lock. Many other units were broken into by going THROUGH the "walls" of one unit into the next. The "walls" were made of extremely cheap particle board and drywall. Flimsy and worn, especially in the smaller units. I spoke with a couple of customers about their experiences at this facility. Again, this has been going on back to AT LEAST May of this year, probably further. I am sorry to say that "snow birds" who may have already left for the season are going to have an ugly surprise waiting for them. I hope not, but, maybe. THEN, and this is completely unacceptable and illegal, they have people actually LIVING in the units! That is illegal. They have no certificate of occupancy there for humans or beasts (pretty sure two pups are living there, as well) and you cannot do that. And yet, they consistently and surreptitiously, raised the rent. When I spoke to the site manager, Myra, all I got in return was empty apologies which turned to smugness. At one point, she said to me, "...well, it's a storage unit, they get broken into..." WHAT?! That's your defense??? When I spoke to Christine the district manager, (the only employee in the entire company -I have called the corporate offices 7 times, today will be the 8th, more on that later) who has at least tried to help) I told her what the site manager said to me, and I also told her that that should be there new company slogan, " Store your belongings with us, hey, it's a storage unit and they get broken into!" with a shrug of the shoulders. As stated above, I have called the corporate office seven (7) times, and every single time I get a completely insincere "I am sorry this happened to you..." reading off a script, and a "...this is escalated to a higher level and I am not able to do anything more but someone will call you with 24 to 48 hours..." again, reading from a script. Do I actually need to say that NO ONE from corporate has called? Because, NO ONE from the corporate offices of this "...escalated situation..." has called! Again, I have called them seven (7) times. The PSPD have been amazing, and are doing excellent work on making progress with cracking down on what is happening over there. It is amazing to me that it is our wonderful police department and not the company doing the right thing. Oh, sure, NOW the cameras are "working" and the particle board and dry wall walls are being repaired. TOO LITTLE, TOO LATE! And only because they got busted. The hole in the fence, yeah, there was one of those, as well. Again, they kept raising my rate and doing nothing to address these other issues until they got caught. I will say it again, if you value ANY of your belongings, DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY! You have been warned! P.S. I have copious amounts of photos of damage and the ransacked unit, as well as some of the items that were stolen. I will post those later. read more

While you think that your belongings are safe in a facility like this ... I was robbed in the first month of renting. Stole all my tools and memorabilia and ransacked all my bins strewing everything about. These kind robbers put their own padlock on my unit afterwards! The manager said they don't have direct cameras to my unit but didn't want to be bothered to look at their cameras for the few weeks I was there to see the thieves carrying out my tools. Extra Space Storage insurance paid me $2000 (which apparently is their limit) for my stolen items. And still no word on security footage being reviewed. The day I got my stuff out of there at 7am, their "security" gate was wide open the whole time. I had to tell their front office that that gate should be closed. What a headache!!! read more

We had a climate controlled locker 4 years ago waiting for house construction, so came back for this upcoming move. Needed a smaller space for artwork, and fortunately after waiting a month one came open at the PS facility. Great work by Bertha in getting our rate settled and paperwork done by phone since we are prior customers. read more

A bait and switch scam, don't be fooled Offered a 'special rate' for storage of my vehicle. 90 days later comes a notice in the mail that the rate is being increased by 35%. Was told when booking that this was a set rate. Don't be fooled, whatever rate you are offered will quickly be increased. They are taking advantage of people, will report to authorities. read more

I walked in the attendant was immediately defensive for some reason I asked if I could get a 10 x 16 or 10 x 20 garage unit and she said and I said I'm going to have my POD Storage Unit Brought over here to their place so that I could unload it into one of their units when I told her that she said Pods not allowed on site and I said we can put on the street I get a permit she said that's not allowed I should I think it is but I'll double check she said well I only have one unit anyway it's a $650 a month I walked out as I apologized for inconveniencing her by inquiring about a storage unit read more

Got a great deal on line for $133.00 plus $11.20 for insurance on a 10x25 storage space. There was an attempted of a break in into my storage in December. Reported it to Bertha, she seem concern? She mention there was a few other storage's that an attempt was made. Took pictures of damage to my storage door. Felt Extra Space Storage didn't do anything to address my concerns. Then after my six month there my storage rent increased to $306.00 plus $11.20 for insurance. This was over a 60% increase. I talked to Bertha before signing up, she mention rent increases were very small. Bertha, said she called her office and the best she could do was $273.00. Still a big increase. Had an interesting phone conversation with "Alex" one of there customer service representative that works there. He mention to me that most of the online special had a big increase and I should of been info of that before signing up. Nothing was every mention to me by Bertha who signed me up. Must work off of commission. I was out of town and told him to call me tomorrow because I was busy at the moment and couldn't pay over the phone. He said sure, I'll talk to you tomorrow. Got a call today that they started the foreclosure process and charged me an extra $85. So when I went in to pay and asked about the fee he said he was charged today and I said it would of been nice if you called me on Saturday like you said you would. He smirked and just took my money. Since my foreclosure and being laid off, I have used storage facilities in Coachella Valley. I found this one being average, due to its service. The facility functions great; never had problem with the gate, ez access to my unit, there is flat bed cart in each building, and AC always was working. But the service is not consistent. I arrived on first day to move in and their computers were down. They wanted me to come back, later. I suggested they call their neighboring facility in Palm Springs and have them register me into the system. But they refused, instead they told me to drive myself over there and then comeback. Also, they never respond to their emails. Unless I complain to the corporate office. Then the facility manager, Jessica, will contact me. Additional, they missed place my unit key for several weeks, until they found it. read more

There are rats in this facility I stored brand new sofas for less than 6 weeks and paid for the insurance; only to find out it doesn't cover rat damage and on top of it the management had the nerve to say(how do I now you didn't bring in the rats) STAY AWAY FROM THIS FACILITY! read more

I rencently rented a unit for less then 2 months I moved out of the unit in Aug. 27, 2015. Upon a previous visit to take photo pf my couches to sell I discoved everything was full of dirt and twigs. I took pictures of the dirty conditions and showed it to the manager Hector Hermasillio. He was busy and gave me a used twin bed plastic cover instructed me to cut it to create a barrier. He then stated he was sorry and that next time we come in to let him or his staff know that so some one could seal the unit with sillicone to ensure protection. We spoke for a few minuets and he spoke about his vacation to San Antonio which he was excited about. I at this point had to leave and was unable to return for over a week. When I did I emptied the unit to clean my couches only to discover that there was rat droppings and and the debris we saw previous was probably part of their rat infestation. My couches were new only 15 months old. In fine condition. Needless to say we moved them out. Late on the 27th. On the 28th a representative contacted me and asked me if we were out permanently. I told her yes and explained my situation. She noted my account and told me to file a claim with insurance I had purchaced. I thanked her and did. She asked me if I had pictures and I did. So she gave me the number and I comtacted company and was told to give it a few days. On Sept 1 I received a call from third party claims adjuster who stated that the policy didn't cover this type of damages only mother nature. I was upset and feel it is a company who should make sure all units are properly sealed before renting. I contacted Hector Hermasillio who is the manager at this location he began to inform me about the policy and how it doesnt cover this and said and I qoute the rat bait bag in the unit is used as preventive measure and that the fact that the bag was chewed open maybe the cause of me bringing in the rats from my new furniture. I was very insulted and told him so. I told him I was going to forward concerns to yelp and contacted the cooperate office to which I am still waiting for reply. I stored a couch a chair 1small coffee table and two end tables. I will never ever use them again and I suggest you pay the extra cost and use UHAUL. I chose them for convience to my home. I really don't understand the policy and my things are ruined. Please look eles where to rent. This unit with insurance cost me almost 70a month and I paid 1300 dollars for furnture. This place is a SCAM. They advertise super cheap storage units then you get there and they do NOT have the cheaper units available as advertised so they talk you into more expensive units. AND they will automatically raise your monthly rent about 6 months after you rent the unit because the contract is "month to month" which I was NOT told when I signed my contract! Very shady business practices. I would never recommend this place to anyone! read more

Beware of paying up front for your space. If you pay in advance and you remove your stuff from storage, you will NOT get a prorated refund. I only found that out AFTERWARD. What was the response to me asking for a prorated refund for the time I didn't use, which was the MAJORITY of the month I paid in advance? "It's in the contract." Needless to say, I won't be using this company ever again. I lost nearly $100. read more

My experience with Extra Space was quite positive. Booked a space online, over a weekend, rec'd a followup call Monday to confirm my arrival date and confirmed the needed size for the motorcycle I was to store. What cinched the 5 stars for me, was when I arrived and met the onsite manager, Hector, who took me to view the unit, he realized that the particular unit he'd booked me wasn't going to work due its configuration. Hector took full responsibility for the foul up, and cut me a fair deal for a bigger spot as a substitute. That action sent a very positive message to me, anyone can make a mistake, it's how it's handled that counts. read more

We made plans to re-locate from Chicago to Palm Springs that did not include moving ANY furniture thus there was no moving van involved. We did however have a need to move critical paperwork and clothing and a cat. We began investigating storage facilities in Palm Springs but were unable to find one that was willing to accept UPS shipments and put them into a storage locker until we arrived (No, not the cat) until we happened upon Hector and Extra Space Storage. We were able to reserve a storage locker online and complete the lease paperwork at a Chicago location. Between the agent in Chicago and the agent in Palm Springs we were able to ensure that our UPS deliveries would be accepted and secured in a storage locker awaiting our arrival in mid-December. We did receive one email confirming that the first shipment arrived and was placed in storage. The arrival and storage of additional shipments has yet to be confirmed by email by the Extra Space agent although UPS shows them having been delivered. I will gladly add a fifth star to this review once I am satisfied that the additional shipments and all future shipments are securely stored in my storage locker. read more
