I received excellent service from Sonya in the call center, who helped me with my reservation, and respected my budget. Once at the location, Debora was patient and answered all of my questions. Truly excellent auto ER service. I must say I would not have rented here if I had I read the other reviews first- but I do feel like the property is making efforts to turn the place around. There are now cameras inside, and I saw no evidence of rodents. Truth is that could happen at any storage facility. Hopefully they'll continue efforts to prevent and control it. The manager on site sent me a message that they changed and cut my lock due to a sitewide lock change and my old lock was still attached, then later told me that the lock had been cut by a 3rd party company who then entered my unit to put the old lock in there that was cut, after speaking to corporate I found out that was a lie as they told me the reason was the lock was associated with my old locker and needed to be changed. That was another lie as when I changed lockers the facility forced me to purchase a new lock from them. What they did was criminal breaking and entering and I cannot be convinced that 3rd party didn't mess with or take my things. I will be persuing legal action against this facility. read more

Unfortunately have to corroborate Robin A's review -- apparently we've found rat dung and rodents in our unit in our 5th month storing household belongings during a home renovation, and I'm very upset to see this after an otherwise fine experience the first 4 months. And dealings with management (Kirk) have gone nowhere in fixing the issue . It's otherwise a reasonable temperature for storing all our belongings, and getting in and out of there has been convenient as they allow gate access until pretty late at night (works well for our schedules). Price was also pretty reasonable and the unit is not a garage, it's in a contained building. My husband has been either adding things to store in this unit or checking in on it for theft and upon our last visit this week, we found signs of rodents. This is most likely from some unit with food being stored, which is never a good idea. Put down traps, the rodents just get away so Its clear these are larger rats with the zuft to free themselves . We have caught smaller mice though. We are in the middle of a home renovation and already stocked up to the brim in our sheds, apartment attic and pretty much every nook and cranny of our apartment , so yes, we needed the space but not the property damage and filth coming from all the rodent excrement literally everywhere. While items in boxes are mostly books, we have a sofa and recliner here that are cloth upholstered and likely to need discarding from all the rat shit everywhere. After all, Would you put a filthy couch into a brand new home and is your family's health and safety worth it? Still, not excusable conditions for the service they claim to provide. My husband has contacted the manager Kirk several times over the past month to report this and has gotten no action or offer to remediate costs of damaged goods, claiming we didn't buy their insurance (which has terrible reviews online for also being a scam - what isn't a scam here?). Happy to update once we find some signs of remediation here but right now something needs to get done! read more

I'm giving them a single star just because I have to select one before posting. If I could, I would have given them zero stars for the crappy service they provide. Check this out. They advertise in the front of their facility that they have a first month free deal. Yet when we went in to enquire, they said it was at the managers discretion. ..LOL!. According to the manager who, like the other girl in the office was as rude, they were not offering the free month (Despite what the big sign in the front said). When we asked why, they pointed to the little note on the side of the sign which said "see manager for details". After seeing the manger for details our "first month free" ending up costing us over $200. Then they also advertised the use of a free truck. People, let it be known that this truck is not free. You have to pay $100 deposit to use it. This storage facility does not honor what they advertise. Why advertise the first month free when you're not going to honor that. Why say "Use this truck free" when you won't honor it?. False advertising!! We can't wait to move out. We paid over $200 to move in and in only 2 weeks in there, we are already moving out. We were not given the use of the truck because we were told that we cancelled our appt to use it more then once. LOL!. And we moved right across to the storage facility right opposite this facility called (uncannily) EXTRA STORAGE. Their staff was awesome and very helpful and their facility bigger and much cheaper and guess what - WE ACTUALLY GOT THE TRUCK FREE!. read more

Wow, this place is getting so much crap for service problems I haven't ever encountered. From making an appointment to checking out, I haven't seen nothing but sincere hospitality during my stay. Given my huge need for electronics, the climate control here is great for storing for the summer. I've seen college students both store for the entire summer and only for a month. If anything the parking is pretty terrible, but I've never seen more than one person other than myself moving in or out. Plus they provide their own dollies, which is convenient even with the elevator. read more

I needed a storage to take care of my brother's belongings. I'm from 7 hours drive away. Renting and payment were seamless, along with electronic signature for the lease. Took me a month to finally get up there and I got a courtesy call from Kirk inquiring why I had not yet been there and to see if anything was wrong. Nothing wrong, just limited time. When I finally did get there for the first time, it was totally touchless and with fool proof instructions. A lock was already on the door with key and instructions. Kirk also happened to be ther doing his routine walk-around rounds. - totally seamless - totally touches - totally easy and convenient. - definitely recommend - Kirk has been great! We just spoke to Todd, the District Manager, and we are sad to learn that there are no plans to change security processes at that location or any plans to change notification procedures when a theft occurs. No plans to add cameras that actual point at the storage units where our unit was located. The cameras only point at the elevators. This place is a treasure trove for any thief. Just bring a saw or know how to pick a lock and you wont be filmed on camera. The thief who stole from us had hours - hours to pull out all of our boxes - and pick thru all of our items because they saw that there was no camera pointing at the units. Security is not a priority with Extra Space Storage and certainly not at Extra Space Storage on Willow Street in Redwood City. read more

Do not use this place. Total rip off. Our I tail cost per month was $250, but the time we left one year later it was $454. They neglect to tell you the price goes up every 3 months. My locker was broken into by Managemnt so they could sell me one of their locks for another $20. even after we moved out they continue tying to bill us. They have exceptional customer service and are very accommodating. They will call if they see something strange with your unit (like if it was unlock) or if your account had an issue and try to work with you to resolve. I highly recommend this location! read more

Our credit card info got stolen way back in December so an auto payment didn't go through. We IMMEDIATELY fixed it and are totally up to date on payments. We went in to retrieve some stuff on Sunday March 27, a full three months later, and there was still a red lock on our locker. A totally wasted trip, and of course no one was available to take it off. Real quick to block access to our stuff, not so quick to restore it. read more

I wish I could give Extraspace Storage on Willow Rd., in Redwood City a ZERO. When we rented, we used the combination lock that was sold to us by Extraspace. Our unit was robbed in 2019. Extraspace management knew FOR MONTHS that a serial robber was robbing storage spaces in this facility. We were not told about this. Extraspace management knew that the model of lock that they had sold us was very vulnerable to picking. One day, we were called by the Redwood City police who asked us if we'd checked our storage space in a while, because some of our personal items were recovered in a robbery case at Extraspace. We immediately went to the facility, tried to open our space and the combination on our lock did not work. We had to buy bolt cutters to cut the lock off. Our space had been totally gone through by the robber, who had changed the lock's combination. Thousand of dollars of our stuff had been stolen. We asked Extraspace management why we were not told that spaces had been robbed. We also asked them about the robberies and the lock. They told is that the lock that we had was no good. THEY SOLD IT TO US!!!!!! We They told us that it was not their responsibility to tell us about robberies. If this was not bad enough, when we opened the space the entire contents were infested with mice. They had eaten through every box and had made nests and had ruined all cloth items with their urine and feces. Again, "NOT MANAGEMENT'S RESPONSIBILITY." F*%K Extraspace Storage on Willow Street in Redwood City. TERRIBLE PLACE. Avoid at all costs. read more

Great staff here. Even though I don't store here, I did use the truck from this location to move my goods to my Extra Space unit in Belmont. One of the freebies with my unit was use of their truck for a day, and the truck for this area is kept here. Joseph from my Extra Space complex set it up for me, and sure enough when I showed up today to get my truck, it was all ready to go and waiting for me. The signout with deposit and some paperwork was fast and easy, and the gentleman was just as personable and friendly as the guys at the Belmont unit. The kicker? He was watching the security cameras and remotely opened a back gate for me when I got the big truck all discombobulated in the driveways here, letting me get out easier than the way I was supposed to go. That's good service. It's a little older than the new place in Belmont so I am not going to give 5 stars but I highly recommend this company for self-storage. Thanks! read more

I've been with this spot for almost a year now, and I have to say I'm thoroughly displeased with it. First off, the folks at the front desk are not very friendly. My coworker lodged a couple of complaints about the lady that works there and not only has the woman approached me awkwardly a number of time, she has since threatened to throw my coworker out. Secondly, our unit is on the third floor and down a couple of hallways. And 90% of the time, there are NO carts to be had. Anywhere. And don't expect the folks in the front office to let you use one of their hand trucks. That's a long way to haul boxes with no carts. The parking lot up front only holds 4 cars, so if you can't fit, you're stuck driving around and getting lost in the maze that is the building. The halls are dimly lit and kind of dingy, the units have no lighting and it's impossible to see in the back and the elevators absolutely reek of garbage. I've got a ton of work-related crap in my unit, but I'm planning on moving out by the end of the year and going back to City Storage in SF, which was a great experience by comparison. read more

While the facilities are clean, and climate controlled, their prices are ridiculous. I rented a small 4 x 4 for $81.00 a year ago, After 4 months, they jacked the price up to $91.00. Now I get another notice last month that they've raised the rates AGAIN! So twice inside of one year I have been handed rate hikes. I now have to pay $98.00, and they NEVER offered me the one month for free that is advertised on the giant banner hanging off their building. Nor have they proved me with anything better for my money. No new features...just them asking for more money!! DO NOT RENT FROM THIS FACILITY! read more

It is actually impressive how much of a jerk the woman who works here is. I am so glad I never have to see her again. She is just rude, condescending, and will waste a huge amount of your time. They try to force you into buying insurance for the unit. Your normal renters insurance will probably cover this, so you do not need to pay extra for it. It seemed like no amount of proof we gave her was necessary enough, she refused to go past this step until we had the actual copy of the full written policy, instead of just the page from the insurance company showing coverages, and she refused to accept the page showing my insurance coverages with a copy of the basic policy. It was completely ridiculous and wasted an hour. Even if that had not happened, however, I would have still given one star to this place because of how rude the lady was. I actually did get one month free, although some of the units are 'first month half off', so be aware of that. Also, the moving truck was free to move in (with deposit) but they don't let you use it to move out (even if no one is using it - great customer service here). So it's not shiny and new like other places. It is clean, and cheaper than other places. It is located off the 101. Kathy at the front desk is always pleasant to me. There aren't really an abundance of carts, but if there is one in the main office you can use that if you leave your drivers license with them. (As if you would steal a cart). No the units don't have lights but my last storage place didn't have lights in the units either. They do however sign for your packages and put them in your units for you which I think is a nice bonus. It doesn't smell, I feel relatively safe in here, and the office hours are pretty convenient. They usually call me to remind me to pay the bill before it's due so that I'm not late, and I've never really had any problems with the place. The parking lot is small, but during the day I rarely have problems parking there. I have had an experience where I needed help moving boxes of work stuff into my car and two of the males were just sitting there and when I asked if they wouldn't mind helping, they said they weren't allowed to.......which irked me a little bit, because here I am, a little 5"1 girl, struggling with boxes that are larger and heavier than me, and you can't help me load them into my car? I wasn't being lazy I genuinely needed help. I don't know what kind of work policy it was but it irked me. They have helped me on other occasions. Sometimes I think it depends on which manager was on site watching them. All in all it was an okay experience with them, no major issues. read more

I had all of my apartment furniture, clothes, and boxes in storage for 10 months at this facility. I checked on my stuff monthly and there were no major problems until I moved out. The day before I was planning to move everything out of storage, I noticed there was rat poop all over the floor. I heard a rat scurrying between the units adjacent to mine. As the movers began to move everything out, I noticed poop on top of my boxes, on my clothes, desk chair, poop -- all over everything. I informed customer support along with the manager of this facility. The manager was a friendly person, but said nothing would be done since I had not purchased insurance. He added that once there is an infestation of rats, it's a difficult problem to resolve. Oh well, I guess nothing will be done. read more

I rented a temperature controlled storage unit in this location for more than two years now. The manager, Kirk is always helpful and super awesome. The storage is always clean, there's always plenty dolly At the entrance to help me load and unload the car. And the price is very competitive compared to other storage unit. read more

When my truck was packed I notified the manager on duty that I had moved out and that my unit was still filled with rat sh*t. The manager said, "Hmmmmm", and handed me my receipt. They won't stop emailing me, requesting a review so here goes: Pros: Friendly staff, nice facility, clean and climate controlled. Cons: Employing bait and hook tactics (Largely wrong unit advertisements online), don't really honor their first month free policy. charge a "mandatory" insurance premium each month that they claim they legally have to do but I've never heard of such a thing (maybe I'm wrong about this one). Expect to pay at LEAST an additional $12 a month up to $64 depending on what you're storing. Explanation of Price baiting: I found this facility online and chose to go with them over the public storage next door because for $10 more a month, i got an extra 10 sq. ft. with them. I reserved it and went to look at the unit and it seemed rather small but I didnt have a tape measure with me. When I came back later with a tape, i discovered the unit was 4.5x7, not the 5x9 that was advertised. I understand that their measurements are approximate but 2 feet short?! thats just false advertising. I went to the office to bring this to their attention and they informed me that even though the unit was smaller than advertised, I was still paying the correct cost for the actual size; so where is my first month free thats advertised all over the building? I assumed that since I got a web rate, i didnt qualify but come to find out I'm paying the full rate. All-in-all, the unit I got is nice (albeit much smaller than advertised), the staff is pleasant and cheerful and I'd be happy to do business with them in the future, as long as I bring a measuring tape and am prepared to call them out on the occasional BS. read more

Have leased with them several years. Hit with Significant rent increases every 6 months. They do not honor some of their advertising gimmicks of free rent or 1/2 free rent at move in . renters of space are encouraged to move out due to their rent increases and there are several other businesses in the area that rent for less and do not have the aggressive $$$ increase policy. Their rent increases are not negotiable. Also at one point the unit above mine had a leak of some oil or fluid. They offered to quickly move my items to another unit while I was out of town. Upon visiting the new unit a month later I noted that a few boxes of valuable items and a painting were missing. ugh.....not adequate response....no follow through on following up a theft...and the manager who completed the move had left the organization. ! Very suspicious. We are now moving out.....would not recommend this place other than it it is clean....high priced, and ruthless to existing tenants with their continual increases. Do not give them your credit card for auto payment...as if you move you are stuck with an additional month with no recourse. Could not even find this in the fine print of the contract? The building is alright, quick to get to. Elevators break all the time, cockroaches roam the place, there place smells sometimes, since they fixed the elevator you get high with the smell of glue, their key pads break all the time and they are terrible at fixing them. They will raise your rent constantly. If you are in autopay you won't notice. There were 4 raises in price for my unit in 15 months approximately. If you need to leave in the middle of a month they won't prorate. You will get screwed. The lady that works there is nice. But they are not flexible to work with you if you have any issues. You better read the fine print really good. They will charge you so many fees if you are late and send you to auction as soon as they can. read more

Rats are everywhere at this place. So much of my stuff got invaded. They made a home in my mattress, etc. I have more than one unit and moved the important stuff to the noninvaded unit while they assured me they were taking care of the problem. The noninvaded unit now has rats nests there too. They have even offered to refund any of my money. Also, someone's unit was broken into and everything stolen and they didn't notify the owner. He showed up and everything was gone. I would post pictures but they are really disgusting -- rat poop everywhere. read more

Do yourself a favor and pick from one of the many other self storage facilities in the area. This one has a major rat problem and there are no visible signs that Extra Space Storage is working to control it. I can't believe this is a public company. After 6 months, rats chewed through our expensive furniture that was wrapped for long term storage and left droppings everywhere. It is absolutely disgusting. We have two insurance policies that cover these items but neither one covers rodent damage - shame on us but really, I don't think this is terribly common. First, the good part. The place is clean, convenient, and appears secure. Now the bad part. After renting a unit for six months, I received notice of a 60% rate increase - $127/month to $208/month. . An increase like that indicates that you think your customers are hostage and will not undertake the effort to move when you impose laughable price increases. Got the notice yesterday and will look for another location starting tomorrow. I do not even care if another place charges the same as the new Extra Space price. The new place will not have demonstrated a disregard for their customers.
