I can barely count the moves we've helped with and used these storage units! The front desk staff, especially Brian, was very helpful and efficient. They carry moving and storage items, boxes, bubble wrap, tape, wrapping paper, locks, etc. I've purchased oodles of supplies here. The inventory is always well stocked and the sizes of the boxes are varied! There are several unit sizes to choose from. Our family has used the smaller units to the larger units! When someone in our family moves or is in between residents and needs to store some things for awhile, we use Extra Space Storage! And we make moving a party and have fun packing and unpacking! Moving can be a drag, but this place makes it one step easier! The bright green doors are well marked to help you find your unit easily! Recently, we went by my sister's space to reorganize some of her things, and other than some expected, light dust, the unit was clean and we didn't notice any little critters around. This place is infested with rats. I stored items with Extra Space only to open the door and find rat droppings everywhere. Based on my recent conversations with management, they are well aware of the problem and have not taken adequate steps to get rid of the rats. And, they are refusing to replace any of my items that were destroyed due to the rats. I had to throw out rugs, mattresses, chairs. DO NOT STORE ITEMS HERE. Management says some people store food and it attracts rats but I didn't see an adequate number of traps or poison to get rid of the rats. Management knows there's a problem but lie to potential renters and tell them everything is clean and orderly. BEWARE. I wrote a letter to senior managers and I've called. But, they ignore me. I would avoid this place. It's already overpriced and prices will go up after several months regardless of the agreement you already signed. The gate is constantly broken which will limit your access to the unit. I've also had mice in my unit and complained about it and nothing was done. read more

I have rented a storage unit at Extra Space Storage for over 6 years. Dana and Valerie were incredibly friendly, professional and helpful today. After being unable to locate my keys, they worked for almost 1/2 hour to get the storage door opened. It was incredibly hot and humid outside, yet they were determined to help me get inside! I had some damage and lost a lot of personal belongings due to ants. While insurance (offered by extra space) did not cover it, the facility offered me one free month. Despite the amount of items lost not being close to the amount of a free month. I contacted their Stafford/Fredericksburg facility, told them the story, sent pictures, and was told I would receive a new unit at my current rate AND they offered me a sum of money. While it was not about the money, but rather the service (or lack there of) on the day of the mishap, I was willing to accept what they offered despite it being not quite 1/4 of the total of my lost items. This was back in July. As of October I have yet to receive the check after multiple calls and visits to the facility and having a signed paper by both a representative from the facility and myself. I know that if I were to go from July to October without paying, my possessions would be forfeited to them and they would send a collection agency after me. This delay is unacceptable. I was told it would take up to 6 weeks. Again, it has been 3 months. I called 3 weeks ago and was told I should receive a check within a week. This has yet to happen. Perhaps I should look into contacting a collection attorney. I understand the manager at the facility's hands are tied as she has to wait for the GM to follow through. My personal dealings with the onsite manager(s) has/have been pleasant. This rating is representative to Extra Space overall, not entirely this specific facility. read more

So I asked for climate control, they did a bait and switch and I ended up with an outdoor storage unit with no climate control whatsoever. Figured it would be okay after I asked if bugs were an issue and they said no. Well now everything's covered in webs and spiders and I had to throw everything out because of my arachnophobia. As I was getting everything out literally spiders were falling on me. Also after 5 months they upped the rate by $50 when I was already paying over $100 for a bogus storage unit under false pretenses. It's fair enough to say I should have just gone somewhere else but I didn't have the time or expenses when the movers showed up to the storage unit with all my stuff to really have much of a choice. I will add pictures later today of the spiders and all the eggs because holy hell this was a bad experience. read more

While the staff is very friendly and signing up is easy, I do not recommend this facility. We had a bunch of boxes stored there for a month and when we picked them up they were infested with spider crickets. Unpacking them in our new house was a nightmare, we'd open a box and several spider crickets would pop out. read more

Our storage unit was infested with ants that for into most of our inventory rendering it useless. The insurance policy that they require you have does not cover insects or rodents. We spent almost four hours in the sun cleaning out the unit and throwing out inventory. Staff offered no help except giving us plastic gloves to handle the ant infested mess. The gm told us to take the items we had infested with ants could be taken home and washed. No compensation was offered other than a free month. read more

I use Extra Space Storage whenever I move or need to store extra things from my apartment. The storage units are reasonable priced. The storage area is very secure. You need a code to get access to the storage area. You must buy or bring a lock for your individual unit. Extra Space Storage has climate control units as well as regular units. The storage area usually closes around 10pm. I like the location of Extra Space Storage (near Willow Lawn).The staff is very helpful. I found what could have been a difficult cross country process very automated and easy. Our daughter goes to school out of state, and I completed the registration process locally for her so she could store her car over winter break near the campus. The unit was clean, and the staff was friendly and very helpful. So they sounded great when I first was reading their site! Also- once I reserved my storage unit, and I got a call 10 mins. later welcoming me to their business and I was filled in with the steps to actually claim my space, I was very, very impressed! Well, when I got there, I had no choice to whether or not I wanted insurance. So I had to pay extra every month. So the "great price" they originally promised me went up a significant amount! Wasn't too happy about that. I figured insurance wasn't really needed seeing as I only needed 3 months. Almost every time I went to my unit, the gate was open. I decided to email them and they claimed that "lightning had struck it." Which doesn't make sense, because it was always open before I complained, and every time I drive by it (a month later after I moved out,) it's still wide open. I think I could have found Also- after 3 months of being there, they told my my price was going to go up even though I signed a contract... Not cool. Could have found better if I weren't in such a rush! BUT I did like the option of automatic payment from my bank account. read more

The facility is great and they offer 24 hr access to the customers so they can access their units at anytime. However, their staff and customer service is seriously awful. I rent two units there and have been renting them for over a year now, with that said, I would hope to receive at least good customer service. I understand that excellent customer service is hard to come by these days. Anyways, I had a package delivered to one of my units and it was suppose to be over nighted and arrive on Wednesday morning. I had one of my employees to go the unit to pick up the package on Wednesday evening and she said it was not there. I told her to check with the office but they decided to close early that day (they do this when they feel like it). I then went on FedEx.com and checked the tracking, the package was in fact delivered on Wednesday morning. I called on Thursday morning right when they opened and first off was put on hold for about 10 minutes before speaking to someone. The person who finally answered the phone made me repeat myself 3 times before he finally said "oh yea we do have a package for your unit." I asked him politely if he could please put the package in the unit for me and he answered with 'if i have time." I then got upset because it was already a date late and I had someone who had already been to the unit to pick up the package. He continued to talk over me when I tried to explain how important it was for the package to be put in my unit. He said "the sooner I get off the phone with you, the sooner I can get this package to your unit." I just said thank you and hung up. I am appalled at how he handled the situation. I understand that they might have been short handed but its their responsibly to make sure packages are put in the storage unit when they are delivered. I should not have to call and ask if he can place it in there for me and definitely should not get a response like "if I have time." I use these units for my job and have my employees pick up supplies from them for special events. They are in a central area to where my employees live so it works out great for them. However, I am going to have to move units due to the disrespectful staff that works there. read more
