They increased the price twice during the 14 months I was renting a storage unit there. They make you feel like you are getting a good deal at the beginning but the rates will constantly go up and if you have alot of stuff there, you end up just paying because it's too much of a hassle to move. They know this and take advantage of it. I think it's a shady tactic so i terminated my lease. The place itself is nice, seems safe and is clean. Other than the price gouging, I didn't have any other problems. read more

BEWARE! Do not rent from here or this company. They pulled a bait and switch tactics on me. If I can give this place a lower score, I would since it is deserving of the lowest score possible! I worked with the facility manager, and she offered me a discounted rate since I was guaranteeing her that I would need a unit for a year minimum to two years due to a temporary work relocation project. As a result, she gave me a discounted rate to get me into their unit Three months out of state without any notice, I get my rate increased over 20%. I called the new facility manager to find out why my rate changed, and she was absolutely horrible. She began telling me how storage companies will change prices on you, and she continued giving me excuses why rates needed to increased. She told me that this was common practice to raise rates, and it is an industry practice as well. She continued to justify her actions. I was completely astonished on how she justified her business practice. It was completely unprofessional since no customer wants to hear how they can be taken advantage of, cheated, and manipulated. She did not display one bit of business acumen or any professionalism. Finally after this long winded and one sided conversation, she finally offered to keep me at my previous rate provided I moved to a smaller unit as she knew I was already out of state. I could not believe it, and she basically told me to take it or leave it. I was a victim of a bait and switch tactic. They got me in at a lower rate, and then three months later as I am now out of state, rate goes up. So you are now warned. Do not rent from this facility or from this company. I asked to speak to corporate management, and facility manager just shut me down. I am in the business world, and I cannot believe that a corporation as large as this would tolerate such unscrupulous business tactics. Furthermore belittling any customer intelligence, which was completely appalling. I will no longer give this company my business, and I am now giving warning to the rest of the consumers. Extra Space Storage will need to reevaluate their management customer training programs, and stand by their commitments. Very disappointing now that I am stuck with this place! My wife and I were obliged to have our possessions put into storage while we were visiting my wife's elderly and ailing parents across country (That's a whole other story in and of itself). Due to circumstances beyond our control, we were not able to retrieve our (packed-by-someone-else) things for two years. We recently had circumstances change making it possible to visit the facility to move our stuff across country. Upon opening our storage unit, what we found was disgusting. There was a massive infestation of of mice that had invaded the unit. There was mouse poop and urine EVERYWHERE! I apologize for the graphic nature of the photos posted, but that's what we found. The little buggers chewed their way into our boxes and made a royal mess all over our possessions as well. They chewed on books clothing and wires, pooped on kitchen utensils, etc. etc. EVERYTHING had to be either sterilized or thrown away. All of our boxes had to have the droppings vacuumed out before we could even attempt to empty them with gloves and masks on. I should have invested in antibacterial cleaner companies before unpacking. When we brought it up to the manager, we were told: "Oh no! We don't have a mouse problem." I then had my wife take the photos we posted and presented it to her as evidence. Then we were given the excuse that there was construction being conducted next door as the reason for the mice. "If you had visited the unit more often...." was the next excuse. My wife was livid. She didn't even offer to make it right. My wife had to ASK for some compensation. The manager then made several phone calls and then offered us reimbursement for the last month's rent, and that it would take up to 30 days for us to see the reimbursement on the card that was on record (Mine) for payment. This happened on May 13th, 2016. We are now on the 21st of June, and no reimbursement. My wife had to call the office, and was told she would be called back as they investigated the issue. REALLY??? We are waiting for the call back. Let's see what happens next. If you need long term storage, I would steer clear of this place. read more

The facility itself is clean, well maintained, and properly ventilated. It's also very secure with surveillance cameras everywhere and alarms on every storage unit, so you don't have to worry about your belongings getting damaged or stolen. Another thing I like about this place is that it's fully enclosed. Other storage places you have to load/unload while exposed to the elements. Here you don't have to worry about you or your items getting soaked in the rain. As others have mentioned, the employees here are very friendly and helpful. They were responsive to any questions I had and made the moving-in process quick and painless. read more

The customer service here is outstanding! Everyone I talked to was extremely helpful, fulling explained everything and did not try to pressure me into anything. Rather, they merely told me what they have available. They are timely in responding to you. I didn't end up using their services because I found out I didn't need to find storage for my item after all, but they were also very nice about that and cancelled it on spot and told me that they money for the reservation would either go right back into my account or they would mail a check for the amount within 48hours. read more

We have 2 units at Extra Storage Space at 720 N 10th St. in San Jose and is looking for another one, Elke helped me through EVERYTHING. I've never found a more helpful individual ever! The facility is clean, staff is great, I also feel a lot safer with them managing my units. She was also able to help me find a different unit outside of 720 N 10th St. for a very specific item that I needed to specific height and width requirement, and of course for the right price and she even measured the item for me so I wouldn't have to take an hour trip just to measure it. I want to thank Elke and her staff for absolutely taking their time to help me with this tedious task. We decided to lease a space here right after Christmas. We needed a space to store our seasonal items like Halloween and Christmas decorations amongst a few other things that are just taking up too much room in our basement locker at our condominium complex. Providing storage isn't all that difficult. You sign up, they give you a code, tell you the availability hours. You move in and out. However, today the storage facility was resurfacing the drive in area of their main floor. The email they sent, and signs on the closed doors, indicated that we had until 6pm for entry. I showed up at a few minutes after 5pm and they were already closed. They had done the resurface work way before 6pm. I was told my option was an emergency exit stair case on the other side of the building. Unfortunately, I'm trying to move 16 very heavy boxes of wine. I can't exactly move that box by box very well. No guarantee when the doors would reopen the next day and I need to be out of town at 7am. They've basically messed up my moving plan because corporate and their contractors can't tell time. I'll now have to try to figure out another time to make a 2nd trip three hours away which will cost me more gas and mileage. I've already emailed them asking for this month's rental fees refunded. read more

Honestly, when we were first looking for a storage location, we were reluctant to get a storage place that was near Downtown SJ. However, to our suprise, the Extra Storage Space on 10th street is very new, clean, spacious, lots of customers coming in and out, and very accessible. Customer service is 5 star. Ema patiently spent time with us to review different storage units, options, etc. She was upfront with the pricing and possible increases in storage rates. During our move in, she assisted us with getting carts, providing support to our movers, etc. Best deal you can get for the Silicon Valley! read more
