Love coming here for some yummy pastries! My favorite will always be the blueberry coffee cake I've tried everything and it never disappoints! Service is fast and they're quick to bring out your drinks and pastries. Place is elegant with lots of seating in and outside with a touch of modern elegance decor!

WOW! The difference between ordinary and extraordinary, is a little "extra". If you're looking for the best desserts and cakes in San Diego, Extraordinary desserts is it! It is expensive, but worth every penny. That said, most restaurant desserts are typically over $10 nowadays anyways. Clean, modern, ambience...friendly service is order at the counter and take a number. This place is legendary, I think its been around for 20+ years now? $13 Tortamisu...Tiramisu and Cake make love, and gave birth to a delicoius mixed race cake. $11 Rasberry fruit bar...tart and sweet, fresh berries $14 Blackberry Forest...fresh blackberries blended into decadent chocolate and vanilla cake layers, heavenly butter cream.

Ambiance: this location is small in scale but lack of maintenance, both indoor and outdoor tables were left uncleaned for a while during my visit, and their restroom ran out of paper, street parking only with limited spots Service: friendly but overall disappointing, I don't think staff deliberately sold me something bad, however, it's not a pleasant experience Food: limited choices through midday already, I wanted to order passion fruit ricotta and black velvet, but they ran out both already, so I took their advice and ordered something else the cashier suggested BLOOD ORANGE RICOTTA - * sweet, tangy, juicy raspberries, cranberries, and blood orange whipped cream are layered in between blood orange juice moistened ricotta cakes, the orange slice looked very dry, and the cake itself tasted old, apparently it's made too long ago, and no longer clean and likely had accumulated bacteria, it caused bad stomach pain and diarrhea afterwards Price: standard extraordinary desserts prices, expect about $15 per slice of cake, keep in mind they charge service fee

(Dined 04/02/26 TH @ 5:30pm): Fact... these desserts looked extraordinary! After a relaxing lunch at Dunedin New Zealand Eats, my friend recommended a stop at Extraordinary Desserts before we headed back to L.A. He'd been to another location once before and obviously left an impression on him. Founded by renowned pastry chef Karen Krasne, her exquisite creations of showstopping cakes and desserts seamlessly blended global flavors with the finest local ingredients, and have been featured on many food TV shows. Would I have an extraordinary moment with these fanciful desserts!? PURCHASE(S) NV Adami Garbel Brut Prosecco Treviso DOC Bubbly Glass ($15.00): Screw-off cap, hazy translucent color, fruity sweet aroma, fruity sweet flavor, light body, crisp effervescent finish, drying fruity aftertaste. I felt this paired well with desserts since I didn't drink coffee. https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw&start=24&select=ekYLgUCz71V4zQO24ypSew Black Velvet Cake Slice ($13.95): Chocolate cake layers moistened with vanilla bean syrup, cream cheese mascarpone cremeuse, dark chocolate ganache and salted chocolate cocoa nibs, this cake was heavy, stout, and stuck to your ribs https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw&start=24&select=E8CZe6S7aWefPjB9PW9Ldw but all in a very good way! The decadence of sweetness slammed onto your palate and wouldn't let go as the tastes of chocolate and cream cheese lingered. A tall glass of cold milk may have complemented this well but probably would've washed away all of the coated goodness in your mouth. https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw&start=24&select=eS8Ef2ReXJuUhTRlw82F8g Passion Fruit Ricotta Cake Slice ($13.95): Fluffy white ricotta cake layers filled with blended coconut, kiwi, pineapple, strawberry, and more in a whipped cream topped with a thick cream and a mango wedge, this was like the Christmas holiday fruit cake we all wished we actually got! The tropical sweetness in every bite took you to a white-sand beach as the waves lapped onto the shore; pure bliss! https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw&start=24&select=oAmMphA3wJ9419C_LrqTVg SERVICE We were greeted by the friendly staff behind the dual-purpose display cases and order counters when it was finally our turn. Before then, we took our time staring at the desserts while those in front of us placed their orders. The ordering process was "cake", we were given a number to place on our table, and within five minutes, someone came and delivered our order. Afterwards, someone came and cleared our table. Everything was easy and straightforward - thank you! PARKING (Varied; $2.00 this instance): We found a spot along nearby Palm St. and fed the meter. Otherwise, there appeared to be available metered spots along the main drag of Fourth Ave. and all of the surrounding business streets (read any posted signs) - 'nuff said! ATMOSPHERE, DÉCOR, AMBIENCE A clean modern place that featured the central lone dual-purpose display cases https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=8jVT2inwc8GIQ6sH2UG9Vw&start=24&select=hyEl53Ok2dx9IFyMsXhyKQ and order counters where everyone queued once you entered. There was a merchandise section while plenty of seating was available along the walls. There was also a partially-covered spacious sidewalk patio excellent for people watching or on warm days. Fabulous natural lighting throughout while various electric ceiling lights (inside) filled in the rest. There weren't any TVs while indie music played in the background. ATTIRE Totally casual, so I would normally be in a t-shirt, boardshorts, and flip-flops. OVERALL Extraordinary Desserts was an orgasmic experience that slammed my tastebuds and I couldn't wait to visit again since they had several more cakes to try... in addition to a variety of beers, coffees, teas, wines, and more, paired with a limited food menu! Although these prices were elevated, the obvious craft, creativeness, and love that went into each of these cakes was undeniable. The type of service offered was more than sufficient. I found complete value based on the prices, service, and experience noted above (TOTAL paid experience was around $45.00 BEFORE any discounts, points usage, and/or tip). And, they accepted my credit card of choice... AMEX! 5.0 STARS

Wedding cake tasting #3 of 3 - have heard good things about the taste and visual appeal of this dessert spot, but hadn't stopped by in many years. The shop is sleek, long and modern. We were surprised that many of the cakes were not available in slices - a whole case, in fact. There was only one case that had sliceable cakes, all of which seemed to have a fruit element. We tried the blood orange ricotta and the chocolate blackberry. Unfortunately, while beautifully presented and substantial in portion, neither of the flavors wowed us. Especially compared to the cakes we'd previously tried at two other local cake shops. My favorite thing was the raspberry orange sauce served on the plate with the orange ricotta slice, but those tart, wonderfully assertive flavors were, sadly, not present in the cake itself.

Located in Bankers Hill. Cozy place perfect for dessert and coffee dates. Cute date night or girls hang out. Parking is grim and can be tricky. Had to drive around on a Saturday evening. Desserts are 8/9, our group agreed everything was good. The cream/ coolie/ whatever the proper name is for the liquid was a bit overwhelming for the cakes we got. The consensus: The cakes 8.5/10 The brown sugar latte 7/10 Coffee 9/10 They use to have much greater variety of desserts and it seems over the years they have narrowed it down. Brought someone here from out of town and surprised that the quantity of desserts has greatly diminished while the food menu items has expanded. Considering the name is Extraordinary Desserts, would love to see the desserts expand while possibly shorted food item. Cashier was very nice and establishment was very clean including restrooms. Would return for a good quality dessert and coffee.

Carrot cake & Dubai chocolate cake
Anna B.

Definitely the perfect spot if you're looking for a decedent sweet treat. Got a few desserts to share for a group, carrot cake, bread pudding with merengue, Dubai chocolate cake and a few pots of tea. The desserts were good, but the extra sauces and syrups on the plate made it unnecessarily sweet. Dubai chocolate wasn't quite Dubai inspired, it was mostly chocolate with some pistachio. Service was attentive and friendly, menu has a lot of sweet and savory options, there's indoor and outdoor seating, street parking is a little trickier.

Counter

Extraordinary Desserts (San Diego) was... unfortunately not so extraordinary. Let's start with the positives--the presentation is beautiful. The desserts look stunning, and the space has a cute patio setup that makes it a popular date-night spot. The location is nice, and they also offer wine and charcuterie boards, which adds to the overall experience vibe. But when it comes to the actual desserts... it fell short. The Croissant Chocolate Bread Pudding looked amazing, but it was served cold and hard, which completely took away from it. I even asked if they could warm it up and was told they don't offer warming, which was surprising for something like bread pudding. The cookie was another letdown--brittle and slightly burnt tasting, especially disappointing at around $7. Service didn't help either. I still waited about 10 minutes for pastries that weren't warmed, and overall it felt pretty subpar and inattentive. Also worth noting--no indoor seating, just the outdoor patio. Bottom line: You're paying for the aesthetic, not the quality. It's a nice spot for a date or photos, but if you're actually craving great desserts, there are much better options out there.

Bundt Cake Chocolate Raspberry Truffle Passion Fruit Ricotta (Slice) Caramelized Crème Brûlée Bun, with Strawberry Fresh Lemon Scone
Mariae T.

Had a $50 gift card to use with my mom for her birthday and only going $0.61 over, we were able to order four petite desserts and a Strawberry Rose Lemonade to go. There was a line reaching the door, but it wasn't a long wait and actually gave us enough time to pick which desserts we wanted to bring home. Parking took a bit longer (fortunately free on Sundays), but we were able to find a space a block down. After making our selection, the desserts were all wrapped and well-fitted into a white box. Initially, I was worried about the appearance after unfolding the wrapping. However, only the cake slice seemed to be affected with a small crack near the tip (totally okay with us). It is worth noting the desserts took an hour drive and were refrigerated for a couple more hours before we were all able to try them. There were four of us in our family trying an equally cut piece of each dessert, and the lemonade was tried by only my mom and myself. Our consensus of each item is as follows: * Strawberry Rose Lemonade (Not Imaged, Apologies) * Very refreshing, slightly fizzy, and tart. The strawberry and lemon were more pronounced in overall taste, but the floral notes were certainly there. * Bundt Cake Chocolate Raspberry Truffle * The cake part isn't too sweet and wasn't as buttery as expected. We might've found it to be a tad dry, but for some, this was much preferred. Overall, the cake itself was well balanced with a very rich glaze of ganache. It was also decorated with chocolate pieces, rose petals, a pair of raspberries, and a small bit of raspberry compote (or confit ?) at its center, which worked quite well. * Passion Fruit Ricotta (Slice) * Easily the best of the bunch; the kind of bite you save for last and an ideal springtime dessert. It was light, refreshing, and very smooth. Also, the right amount of sweet and a perfect contrast to the other rich or dense desserts we tasted. * Caramelized Crème Brûlée Bun * The flavor of the crème brûlée was subtle and pillowy, with the crust also being a nice chewy texture. Very light and creamy. It was also remarkably easy to cut into neat parts. * Fresh Lemon Scone * We love lemon desserts and this had the right amount of tartness for us; delicately muted and not overbearing. The outer glaze gave it greater sturdiness, but each bite remained a tender crumble. The candied lemon slice was also delicious, as a sour complement.

Mushroom grilled cheese

Our go to lunch and dessert spot everytime we come to SD. It is a must! This is our first time at this location but the food and desserts were just as good and consistent. For sandwiches we ordered the BLT grilled cheese with the tomato basil soup and a mushroom grilled cheese sandwich. Then ordered about 3 different desserts including the black velvet, strawberry pastry and lemon tart. With a scoop of vanilla ice cream. The black velvet cake had more of a marscapone filling compared to cake. The strawberry pastry was delicious and warm. The lemon tart was also delicious and had a tarty filling. My favorite. I also tried their strawberry rose lemonade, which is basically what it tasted like. A carbonated lemonade with a strawberry rose flavor. Definitely not the taste I was expecting and very different for my taste buds. Overall, this place is good but I prefer the other location (little italy) is better as the restaurant is much bigger and has a lot more indoor seating. Both are street parking only. Service was good, quick with the desserts but took some time to make the sandwiches.

Came here for a after dinner dessert. The location was a big hard to find, it's kind of hidden. Their selections of desserts look amazing, beautiful and the most difficult part is figuring out which to get. We ordered the Dubai it was a delicious chocolate on chocolate cake, and paired it with an americano. It was delicious. The desserts are a little pricy, but I think they are good portions and delicious, so in the end worth it. They also have a wine selection, but coffee goes best with it. Will definitely be coming back here.

Matthew C.

If you're looking for something special and unique this is the place to go. They have the most beautiful desserts that are just as yummy. The restaurant is beautiful with lots of seating. I recommend coming here and enjoying your time.

What's an evening without dessert after nice dinner in little Italy? This is a cute bakery that has been here for a very long time. You have a choice to dine inside or outside. We took it to go. Husband ordered a blueberry cheesecake type of tarte. Daughter and I split bread pudding. It took well over 15 mins to put it all together. My husband was almost impatient and asked why it's taking so long to just cut the premade baked goods and put it in container. It was a Sunday night and busy but I agree, there was a decent amount of employees. I didn't think so much of the staff. No would stood out and no one went out of their way. The baked goods were ok but not worth what we ordered for the price. Maybe next time....

Do they sell buche de Noel / Yuletide log cake?

I've been there during Christmas time and I've never seen it, but that doesn't mean they don't make it, just it wasn't there when I would visit

Do you guys sell the shangri la cake by the slice or just the whole cake?

they sell both by the slice and whole cake but slices change by the week per the store.

When is peak time on the weekdays?

Usually between 11:30-13:00 then around 5:00-closing

Are there Keto options?

No there are not from what I gathered

I heard they are moving to a new location, what is the address?

Moving a block away to The Louie Lofts.

Anyone have the passionfruit ricotta cake lately? It has been my favorite in the past and I'm wondering how it stacks up lately.

That one is my fave too. Had it a couple weeks ago, and it's still as I remembered it. :)

Is it dog friendly?

They have outside seating for pets

Do they do deliveries to your home too & if they do how can I order?

You can order online but you need to pick it up. Parking can be an issue. My husband came with me just in case we couldn't find parking. Service is fast when you pick up your order.

Do you have any Vegan or eggless items?

Yes, sometimes they'll have vegan options.

Instead of simply saying they were unable to accommodate the request or offering another option, we were told to "go somewhere else," despite already spending the amount we did . The complete lack of professionalism and basic customer service was honestly shocking. It's disappointing to be treated that way at a place we have supported so consistently.
