Went for a late morning breakfast and coffee before taking the train home. The bagels were PHENOMENAL. I got the McLovin' breakfast sandwich on the cheddar/bacon bagel with the Basic Stich coffee. The sandwich was fresh and a large portion size. I could only eat half! I'm not the biggest fan of egg, but the egg was actually really good. Places like this make me nervous for the coffee, but the coffee wasn't too sweet or bitter. I didn't go inside because I was saving seats for my friends, but there was ample stool seating, and we were able to find enough seats for us all. read more

My sister and I stumbled across this place during our San Diego trip last year and we made sure to revisit when were in San Diego for the week this year. We stayed at the Manchester Grand Hyatt so this location was super convenient. We visited on a Friday morning around 8:30AM. We weren't sure how busy they would be so we ordered ahead just in case. I ordered a Medium Iced La Vida Mocha ($6) and a Lox, Stock & Bagel on Serrano, Habenero & Jack Cheese Bagel ($14.99). My sister ordered a Medium Iced Basic Sitch ($6) and the San Dieggo breakfast sandwich on a Serrano, Habenero & Jack Cheese Bagel ($12.99). My sister and I both love spicy and the serrano and habeneros on/in the bagels had a great kick. The lox was fresh and the cucumbers provided the perfect amount of crunch in every bite. The egg in the San Dieggo bagel was cooked perfectly with a jammy yolk and the bacon was nice and crispy. Both drinks are on the sweeter side and delicious. We received a text when our order was ready and picked-it up at the pick-up window. The lady working the espresso machine and pick-up counter was friendly. My husband and I were staying at Manchester Grand Hyatt for Comic-Con and visited Spill the Beans every morning because it was close to the hotel, busy but not too crazy even during Comic-Con, and of course, they served really delicious food and drinks. I had different iterations of their lox, stock, and bagel sandwich, trying different cream cheeses each day (the barista's recommendation for caramelized shallot and chive was my favorite), but I really did enjoy the white truffle and Parmesan cream cheese as well. My husband enjoyed their bagel sandwiches too. There is an option to order ahead online if the line is too busy (or you'd like to plan ahead and not wait), which we took advantage of for two mornings. We found the wait time to be minimal after placing an order. However, they did close online ordering on Sunday when it appeared busier. I was in town at the Marriott Marquis for a conference. I decided to bypass the expensive hotel food for a local coffee/bagel shop and was thrilled to discover "Spill the Beans" nearby in the Seaport Village. I ended up getting food and coffee at Spill the Beans almost everyday I was in town, it was so good! First of all, the coffee was great. Nothing fancy, but good quality, and for a reasonable price, given the area. Second, the food was absolutely delicious. I loved trying the avocado BLT sandwich with different bagels since they were so creative and delicious. And as I mentioned above, the prices were reasonable considering the costs of other places in the city/area. Third, while you can definitely wait in line to order, I highly recommend ordering ahead online. It was super easy to figure out and I earned points for every purchase. Best of all, I'd order from my hotel room, walk over, and the food and drink would be ready for pickup. I'd just give my name to the servers behind the pickup bar and they'd grab my order. Fourth, I mentioned the great location for Seaport village. That's because it was such a quick and easy walk from my hotel, and several others, and because it was near a beautiful park which I enjoyed walking out and enjoying my meal from a waterfront rock. I even heard music played by a bugle and band from the nearby military base. Beautiful and delicious! The staff were friendly, helpful, and patient. There was plenty of seating for folks (mostly open air, though...so be careful if it is raining!). There are not public bathrooms on site, but Seaport Village has public restrooms nearby. Grab a delicious bagel sandwich and coffee with a beautiful view AND at a reasonable price! Head over to Spill the Beans next time you are in town! read more
