Fantastic spot. I stop by on Saturdays after the Little Italy farmers market to enjoy their happy hour prices. The breakfast sandwiches are half off when available, but you need to get there before 3 PM. Their cinnamon rolls, Panna cotta, and croissants are delicious. We were walking around Little Italy and came across Frost Me Cafe and Bakery. The guy that helped us was polite, well mannered, and ended up convincing us to try their tiramisu cake slices ... although, I'll admit, it wasn't too hard to convince us haha. It was just sitting there, standing tall behind the glass - thick, tall, and beautifully layered. What I really enjoyed was the thick bottom layer of chocolate mousse, which isn't typical to find in tiramisu/tiramisu like desserts. This, along with the layers of cake, contrasted well with the cream layers, which I found out incorporates whole eggs (traditional in authentic tiramisu recipes). There is a lot to love about this $11.50 cake slice, and in my opinion, is better than Extraordinary Dessert's Tort-imasu. Only little thing I'd change is more coffee-soak on the cake layers but that's nitpicking. Can't wait to come back and try their carrot cake and bread pudding! read more

First up the staff: Trinity took my order. So friendly and helpful. Efficient but welcoming. Never stopped moving the whole time I was there. I ordered the egg salad croissant. I have to say the best egg salad sandwich I've ever had. Texture but creamy. Eggy and briny from the capers. The croissant flaky but held up to being used to make a sandwich. I got the chips. I highly recommend the chips!! Peppery, crisp, salty. I also got the hazelnut croinut (sp). Flakey, buttery, not overly sweet To drink I got an iced dirty chai. Not overly spicy. I ate everything for there and it came out on real dishes which I love. Otho h worse than eating a beautiful meal on paper plates. The portions are large so when I needed a to go box they were quick to provide, with a bag. It's dog friendly and they provided treats for my two. I have especially liked their cupcakes and the mango panna cotta. On the to be improved side is their bagels. IMHO, I found that their bagels are not great. Their lattes are good but they typically take a long time to make. The last few times I ordered an iced latte there (during busy times), I waited 15-20 minutes each time for my latte. Ordered the sausage biscuit and Dubai mocha for a quick lunch today. Located in Little Italy near piazza Della famiglia, the cafe has plenty of inside and outside seating. The food arrived fairly quickly and was delicious. The biscuit was crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside and packed with egg and sausage. I ordered some hot sauce on the side that kicked up the heat level a notch. This review is for the specialty cake bakery. My husband and I had a party to celebrate our milestone wedding anniversary. I wanted a small cake to (not a full wedding cake) because I wanted to reuse the handmade cake topper that we had made for our wedding. I had commissioned an artist to update our cake topper to match our family today, and I was excited to display it on the cake at our party. Our party venue used Frost Me as their preferred bakery. As the bakery we had used for our wedding is now closed, we figured that Frost Me would be the easiest. We went for lunch one afternoon, and we tasted four of their cupcakes. We were told that they were the same flavors as the cake, and that would be the best way to try some different flavors. Some of them were too sweet, but we decided on the churro flavor. My husband also really liked the churro crumble that was on the cupcake. Anyway, I emailed the person who is directly in charge of the specialty cakes. I gave her the dimensions of the cake topper (the diameter of the circle) and asked for the writing to be above and below the cake topper. She responded quickly and called to to clarify a few things. I also told her that my husband liked the churro crunch and I wanted it integrated into the cake. She said that it might look strange, but she would do her best to integrate it. Anyway, when I arrived at our party, the cake looked cute, but there was nowhere to place the cake topper at all, as she had written in the middle of the cake. The cake topper sat on the table next to the cake during the party and then we had to balance it on the edge of the cake for a few photos. The other words I wanted on the cake were at the base of the cake where they were difficult to see. I really was deeply disappointed, as my whole reason for wanting a cake was so that I could use our wedding cake topper. Otherwise, we had a dessert buffet and I would have skipped the cake altogether. Also, the churro crumble was only in one little spot, so it certainly would not have added to the flavor or texture on this cake, the way it had in the cupcake. I will say that the cake itself looked cute. I only had one bite of cake during the cutting, but our guests said that it was moist and delicious. I will give three stars as I think they tried to do a good job ,and the cake, itself was good. I completely understand a miscommunication, but since I had sent the diameter of my cake topper, I cannot understand how they possibly left no room for a cake topper in the center. All in all, I would not use Frost Me again. If you do choose to use them for a specialty cake, I would probably ask for a mockup drawing first. read more

The ground level lobby of the Amo Apartments in Little Italy's Piazza della Famiglia is where you will find Frost Me Café and Bakery. A water fountain illuminated with neon lighting after sunset was right there in front of this café. A few inside tables, six stools at the service counter, and several more tables right outside on the sidewalk were available for seating. A certain craft coffee brand seemed to be a big selling point, although they also had lattes, teas, beer, and wine for beverages. Desserts such as cupcakes, fruit filled bars, scones, and other pastries were on display behind a glass cabinet. The variety of savory fare had greatly expanded since my initial visit. Bagels, breakfast burritos and sandwiches, and regular sandwiches were offered. At the time, I decided on a tartine of smoked trout and cream cheese which came with a small side of greens. It was an open-faced sandwich containing cut-up pieces of trout smothered by the cream cheese on toast. It was a pretty fancy item that I didn't see listed anymore. However with the categories I provided above, one shouldn't have an issue with finding a suitable alternative. I am glad to see that Frost Me Café and Bakery is still an integral business in the Piazza della Famiglia given the significant turnover at the food hall across the way. read more

I stopped by to grab a drink after a long drive from LA and I had a great experience here. The staff were friendly and welcoming and the interior is modern and well-designed. There's some seating available on the side with some stools at the counter and seating outside in the main plaza. I ordered a matcha latte and I had it ready within 5 minutes. It had a good amount of matcha flavor and it wasn't too milky or watered down. They serve brunch/lunch here along with selling cakes and pastries at the counter. I would give this place 5 stars, but the person at the register was not friendly and seemed inpatient and was not happy with our asking questions and was almost irritated with us. Found this place thanks to the Underground Donut Tour, it was one of our 4 stops that morning. It wasn't the overall favorite of the group, but it was darned good! I was pleased because I can't eat egg and they offered egg-free options, which is always a pleasant surprise when it comes to pastries! The two items on the left, nearest the camera, were my egg-free options. Both were VERY good. I probably liked the cookie the best but can't say for sure, a second visit may be in order ! All of us were pleased with our tasty visit. The location is perfect, I love this particular area of Little Italy. My friend had her favorite dish, the quiche I had the chicken salad sandwich. We also had barista drinks. They were all very good!!! Totally recommendable to a friend. Since I had a family gathering to go to... and I needed a pie and they had one.... For $35.00, I took that home with me. Yup, I know Costco has one for 7.00 or so, but, I had parking and I was here, and the pie was gooooorrrrecgggerouz!! And I wanted a win at home. The pie was a total hit!! So. My pal had ordered her birthday cake there too. And while I didn't have it at the first cutting. I did share a slice with her ... days later... and it was still phenomenally delicious!! Frost me bakery is a winner! I tried the breakfast croissant with bacon (extra 2 dollars)monetary jack cheese, spinach, baked eggs, and Homestyle pesto. This was all served up on a crispy toasted croissant wow this was so yummy! Along with the breakfast I ordered an iced latte and it was rich and strong tasting. My plan was to have brunch here. But when I arrived, there was a Farmers Market in progress outside, so I got a bite there and came here for dessert. Both inside and outside seating was available and the cafe has a welcome ambiance with a smiling and friendly staff. There were many mouth watering choices. I selected the attractive carrot cake slice (almost $10). After paying for it at the counter, it was delivered to my table. Every bite of the carrot cake was overwhelmed by the frosting (on top and in between). So much so, that it allows you to only have brief tastes of the carrot cake itself. To do so, I had to separate the excess frosting and it was a significant amount (see my picture). This was disappointing, since I like carrot cake. Oh well. A friend of mine was a vendor at the Women's Makers Market that was happening in the Piazza della Famiglia. While walking through I saw this cafe and bakery and was thrilled (hadn't had my coffee of the day). I walked towards the register and was just barely greeted. (Is this a San Diegan cultural thing? I moved from OC and for the past three months it's just been chronic rudeness and/or lackadaisical attitudes at most places here and it's unbelievably disheartening.) I was perusing the pastries to pick one and I felt the impatience of the person at the register waiting for me to hurry up and order -- despite a pretty empty cafe and no one in line behind me. I ordered the chocolate croissant and the lavender vanilla bean latte with oat milk. It's pretty comparable in price and the space itself is a cute aesthetic, a mix of modern yet classic at once. The chocolate croissant was average, I've definitely had way better in the area. The latte was decent; I think the lavender syrup was a little too bitter for me. Not sure I'd return due to the quality and the attitude. As I was leaving, a customer came in from the outdoor seating area in earnest hunt for the restroom. She asked another server/barista where the restroom was, and without even looking at the customer with such a careless attitude said, "Around the corner. Code is...." The customer was confused and asked, "Is it around the corner inside the cafe or outside?" And so agitated, the server replied. "AROUND THE CORNER, the patio, and the code is...." I left knowing I'd likely not return or recommend it. You don't talk to a customer like that. RIP customer service :( read more

Celiacs beware! They served my husband a gluten muffin even after I questioned 3 times. Email to manager below. No response. The ignorance of your staff on gluten is unbelievable for an establishment servicing the gluten free community. You should either stop service gluten free items or have an intensive training session with all employees now, and ongoing regular update trainings. We stopped in your bakery on the 7th. We ordered a regular muffin, a gluten free muffin, and coffee. Waitress brings food to our table that is not our order. So clearly not gf. No big deal, we tell her and she takes it back then brings 2 muffins. My husband cut into it and I said stop! That's not gf, it looks just like mine!! Young male writer comes to our table with coffee. I ask him, that does not look what he ordered, is it gf? He replies yes! I know he's wrong. I get up and go to the counter and the waitress who rung up our order is standing beside the one who brought it. I told them my husband is gluten free. He has Celiac's Disease. It's not a life choice, it's a medical condition. That is not a gf muffin. Reply: Oh yes it is, yes it is. They both say!!! I put it in myself. I said does that gf muffin have blueberries in it? Because his does. Them: Oh! No it doesn't. We will get another. Unbelievable. A brief sorry and here's your muffin 15 minutes later after your coffee is cold. Denied by 3 people and who literally argued about it when they were dead wrong. Terrible customer service and seriously putting someone at risk. Until you've stood by watching someone writhe in pain on the bathroom floor at 3 am you probably won't understand. Eating gluten with Celiac's will definitely give you cancer over time. Proven. And make you very sick in the short term. It's serious. I understand mistakes happen but that was inexcusable behavior. First, educate!!! Second, train on customer service. Any time a customer questions gf, immediately go to that table, remove the questioned food, and bring another that you are 100% sure is gf. Even if the customer is mistaken, do it. Which I very clearly wasn't. And I had to ask 3 times and literally insist? That's a 1 out of 10. read more
