Anytime I am in San Diego a stop at Hazel & Jade Bakery is always on my to do list! This vegan bakery is top tier and they never miss, recently my selections were the Tahini Toffee cookie, almond chocolate croissant and lemon bars. All amazing! The cookie made me want to go back the next day. Service is gracious, quick and efficient and the vibe is service oriented. Parking is the only con, but expected in this Hillcrest area.

Menu and pastry case - June 2026

Cute and cozy plant based bakery in Hillcrest. They have some seating in the shade on a covered patio. Street parking only here based on what I saw. Service was nice and quick. I got a 'ham' and cheese croissant and it was nice warmed up ($7.50) and they had other pastry options and a coffee menu.

I had no idea this place was fully vegan until I walked in I ordered a latte with oat milk and a cinnamon roll, and honestly, if nobody had told me it was vegan, I would never have guessed because it was SO good. The cinnamon roll was soft, warm, and genuinely delicious. There's no indoor seating, but they have a few outdoor tables which is nice to enjoy the San Diego weather. Parking was also pretty easy since there's a lot of paid street parking right in front of the café. Vegan or not, I think this place is definitely worth trying. My only complaint is that they don't offer "for here" cups, and even the cinnamon roll came in a to-go box, so it was a little hard trying to eat it without a plate. I really hope they eventually switch to reusable cups and plates for people eating there.

I went here for a quick breakfast with a friend. I wasn't expecting much, but when I walked in the food looked so good. I ended up getting a ham and cheese croissant and a breakfast croissant. To my surprise I read that it was vegan food before I got my food back so I was under the impression that it would be okay at best. But fortunately for me the food tasted amazing! If you want some delicious baked goodies (not even just for vegans) I highly recommend!!

I sampled their bestsellers, the flaky ham & cheese croissant, savory sausage roll, almond croissant, and tropical coconut berry croissant bun, plus a gooey cinnamon roll and the most moist berries & cream cake I've ever had (you'd never guess it was vegan). Their "San Diego Fog" latte, with earl grey, espresso, orange, and vanilla, was as unique as it was delicious, and the friendly barista made the visit even better. A few years back I ordered a cake from here for my best friend who is vegan and her fiancé who is allergic to nuts & soy (very hard to find a cake they can both have!) but Hazel and Jade has soy free vegan cake options! I went with the funfetti cake and everyone loved it.

My first time visiting this vegan bakery and I was not disappointed! I got there right when it opened but it became immediately busy. Very small space but packed with goodness. I tried a variety or savory and sweet treats: Coconut Berry Croissant Bun, Breakfast Croissant and an almond croissant And not pictured breakfast sandwich. 4 stars because my latte was watery? Tasted blah and lackluster for $7 and was not enjoyable.

Really yummy baked goods! I can't eat dairy so the croissants here really hit the spot. The coffee cake was amazing, and the cookies are huge. It is a cute and quaint little spot. They also serve coffee and tea which I didn't get to try. It's so hard to find vegan bakeries. I will definitely be back!

As a vegan bakery, the pastries are quite good (I didn't realize they were vegan till after a few visits!). Their store front is a little easy to miss with the minimalist design, but they do have a nice patio out front that's usually pretty empty. Their menu rotates, so it's always a surprise to see what's available. The employees are always nice and patient with my decision paralysis. Relatively, their pastries are on the greasier side (I assume it's could be due to the vegan aspect). I haven't tried their savory offerings, but the sweet options are on the sweeter side and go well with coffee. I usually go for their croissant buns. The scones aren't my favorite considering the stronger leavening agent flavor but there usually are intriguing seasonal flavors!

They are not sacrificing any taste or flavors here! You don't have to be vegan to enjoy a vegan bakery. Hazel & Jade is creating the most delicious cakes and pastries all while remaining a true vegan facility (even creating their own "butter"). Read their website and you'll see that they even order speciality sugar to ensure it is bone-char free. I didn't even know what bone-char was or that it could be in my sugar! My husband and I are not vegans but I wanted to try something different and ordered him a small cake for his birthday. We got a confetti cake that was the cutest. It was so well decorated, a great price for the size and absolutely delicious!! This cake is made with gluten, but they even have a gluten free option for all those GF vegans out there. On top of this, I couldn't help but order a pastry while I was there and was very impressed by the "ham" and cheese croissant. They are making some really delicious treats. Cake pre-orders are easy to do on the website and I highly recommend placing one for your next special occasion, or even just to celebrate you!

Spanakopita croissant, coffee cake, blueberry muffin, and a Mexican mocha latte.

I tried this place based off of a local's recommendation. My favorite was the spanakopita croissant (it's super "buttery" somehow!) The people working there were quick to give recommendations and the service was pretty quick. It's a little place so there's a couple of tables outside but I enjoyed the ambiance.

Came here as we were walking through the neighborhood. Honestly, it kinda bummed me out. The coffee was really tasteless and watered down and although all the sweets looked tremendously tasty they were all kinda tough to chew. Service was unenthusiastic. There's a cute little outdoor area to sit and their cakes online looked beautiful. All in all kinda a let down, unfortunately.

I LOVE this bakery! It's a tiny little shop but the options are vast. They have a cute outdoor seating area that is super cozy and nice as well. It's so difficult to find vegan pastries and Hazel and Jade pull out all of the stops! We got coffee cake, lemon bar, sausage roll, dill and feta biscuit, and a breakfast Sammy. Everything we got was 10/10 and we absolutely devoured it. I was especially obsessed with the lemon bar and coffee cake! If you're vegan and looking for a bakery this bakery is a must! The staff were friendly and we got lucky that it was super busy so it was very fast service. They even offer to heat anything for you if you prefer warmed food!

Everything here is vegan, from the beverages to the baked goods! Drinks come with your choice of oat or almond-cashew milk and they also offer cakes (with advance notice), plus merch like t-shirts, cups, tea, and candles/cake toppers. Service was decent, albeit not especially welcoming, and there was limited patio seating with a restroom on-site. Their pastries sounded tempting, but I wasn't craving something sweet for my first meal of the day. I ended up with a Mexican mocha (very cinnamon-y) and a croissant that was extremely dry. If heating it up was an option, no one mentioned it. My true rating is a 3.5, rounded up because I love the concept and would return if I were in the area. Though the croissant didn't particularly wow me, I'll consider it a casual reminder that life's too short to not start your day with a sweet treat :p

Inside is filled with plants since they are inside Terra Bella Nursery with a wide selection of plants trees and more. Spacious and good vibes for the tables and seating in various spots. They have an extensive menu with matcha or espresso and even non coffee options. Pastries in the display case and the real winner was the breakfast burritos from the food truck outside. You order at the register then go outside to grab them. Loved the giant disco ball too inside the nursery. 5/5 would come back.

You're also met with lots of crafts, such as stickers, postcards, candles, etc. There was a line when I came. Not particularly long, it went by pretty quick because I got distracted from all the goodies while standing in line. I ended up getting a El Jefe latte (brown sugar espresso) to start, and it was pretty good! Above average and was easy to drink, not too acidic. The brown sugar syrup was okay, I'd get something else the next time. Wait times were pretty long, but the chance to walk around and see pretty flowers, rocks, and plants make it not such a bad thing at all. There are a few tables, but there weren't enough for my party when I went in the late afternoon (5pm-ish) Plenty of parking, and cafe employees are extremely sweet and cheerful. They say green vibrant plants bring your high cortisol levels down. Would def recommend if you're in search of a new cafe. If you're coming from the airport, it's not too far and you can squeeze in a coffee/souvenir run!

I ordered the Serrano Jalapeño Jack Cheese Bagel with chive shallot cream cheese, along with the Iced Cinna Bee. The bagel was absolutely overloaded with cream cheese. Because it was served hot, the cream cheese melted and was literally dripping everywhere, making it a complete mess to eat. Then I bit into it and found a thick slice of cold, raw tomato inside. Who puts a cold raw tomato on a hot bagel loaded with warm cream cheese? The combination was disgusting and completely threw off the flavor. The Iced Cinna Bee, which I was told is one of their most popular drinks, was just as disappointing. It was bland, barely sweetened, and the cinnamon completely overpowered the coffee. It was honestly gross, and I couldn't finish it. To make matters worse, I waited over 20 minutes for my order. Parking was also a hassle since I had to park on the street. The only reasons I'm giving this place 2 stars instead of 1 are because the staff was friendly and the café has potential. Unfortunately, the food, coffee, and long wait made this a disappointing experience. I don't see myself coming back.
