My tire was flat on Friday morning, after Thanksgiving. I have an electric pump and pumped it up and took it to Circle Exxon, 2 blocks away. Chris said he would have the mechanics take a look at it to see if it was a simple repair or if the tire needed to be replaced, and he would get back to me within the hour. Within an hour he called. There was a nail in the tire and they plugged it. It's good as new. It was an easy fix and inexpensive. I am so grateful for this wonderful gem in our neighborhood! read more

Took car in for "service engine soon" light. When picked it up, light was still on, all they had done was change oil but nothing about light. Manager said I would have to leave car so they could look at that, didn't apologize for not doing it to begin h with and was kind of rude and slightly mocking me. So decided to not leave car there again as it did not inspire confidence. Have use them in past and had good experiences, but will not be going back. read more

My wife brought her 2005 Civic here for brake work after the dealership quoted her a literally hilarious price and she looked for alternatives on through AAA. The service was fast--she dropped the car off after-hours one evening, got a diagnosis the next morning, and then picked it up the same afternoon. Everyone she interacted with was friendly and professional. And the price was very reasonable--right in the middle of what some online estimates had generated. Been here twice for tire-related issues. First time I had a blown out tire about 1.5 years ago and came in the early evening after everyone had left the repair shop. Needed to head out early the next day and they were able to "rush" my order about a half hour into their work day (it may have helped that I brought in a bunch of coffees from Starbucks that morning). Just today I had another flat from a pothole after Hurricane Sandy. Again, in and out in half an hour. They're quick and straightforward. Can't go wrong with that. read more

There is plenty reason that Circle Exxon has a very good reputation in the neighborhood. They are well qualified, diagnose effectively, estimate accurately, perform good work, and are fairly priced. Dave and his staff were friendly at every encounter. They held to the planned schedule and have become our reliable garage. Most recently, they diagnosed engine noise on our Mini Cooper S. This was rather concerning since the possibilities of great cost and uncertainty of causal issue left us open to getting it wrong. They accurately assessed and corrected the problem before it became an even bigger issue. And, the final cost was exactly as estimated. That all = peace of mind in auto maintenance. read more

I am genuinely torn. I don't know whether to give them 5 stars for their candour or one star for their service. My mid-life crisis, my beloved '71 Citroen DS, had been sitting in the driveway for nine months. At one point it had 5 feet of snow on top and I was worried the roof might cave. After the thaw I perform my second annual rite of spring ( the first being a pedicure) and call AAA. He charges it, but tells me the alternator is fried. For 3 more months my beloved sits immobile - then i have a brain wave. I need a new battery. The old one is under guarantee. I call AAA again. To my shock and horror, they have changed the policy - they do not guarantee batteries if you have not driven the car for 9 months. My buddy Shane, the AAA guy ( yes - I am on first name terms with my local AAA guy) charges me up and says he will follow me the 3/4 mile down the street to come here, and I can buy a new battery here. I make it, I shake Shane's hand and send him on his way. As Shane departs the manager comes running out of the shop and starts screaming at me, " we don't work on citroens,. they have caused us nothing but problems - please leave immediately" " dude - believe me - I don't want you to work on it - I just need a battery - if i turn the engine off I am stuck here" " well don't turn the engine off and get the hell out of here. I am not putting anything in that car." " dude - you are killing me - I just said bye-bye to my AAA guy" " I'll sell you a battery and you can out it in yourself" 5 mins later " sorry - I don't have one - go to the BP place two blocks down the street" I now happily flip the bird at this place every time I drive by in my Citroen. read more

Hands down this is the best garage I have worked with in 30 years in DC. Dave, Stacy, and the team are thorough, competent, and patient. Several times I have gone in prepared to pay a large sum, only to be told " that is not the problem," and the fix is much less. They always check before performing major work and incurring expense. I went to them for an issue that was related to my battery. The service seemed really great, nice people and prompt service, and I was told that all that was needed was to replace the wire connections to the battery. I asked them, "So there was nothing wrong with the battery, just the connections?" And they said, "You're battery is fine!" Of course I thought that was great (one less thing to replace/pay for), and I was on my way. One month later, I've driven to Baltimore for a conference and at the end of the day I find an absolutely dead car. And on top of that, it has to be jump-started after EACH TIME I TURN IT OFF. I can get it going after a jump, but as soon as I turn the car off, absolutely dead again. And the folks at Circle Exxon told me my battery was just fine. I think not. I'm sad to report that these folks did not come through for me. I had hoped to find a place that wouldn't take advantage of me or do a shoddy job, and I didn't find it. read more

This a great local garage I would recommend. The comments here are funny but show the biggest feature of Circle: they are real people and they don't like idiots. If you blame them for your battery dying a month later, or don't explain what's wrong and expect them to fix it, you need a bicycle. They have saved me money dozens of times for one reason: volume. They have tons more business than they need, so are happy to replace something fast and get you on your way. They don't like big expensive jobs and make more money on doing the lowest priced, fastest turnaround repairs. I live in the neighborhood and work across the street. I have taken a total of 9 cars to Circle Exxon over a 22 year period along with dozens of neighbors, and it's the only place I go unless I am forced to go to the dealer (very rare). The same mechanics have been there for the entire time, but the ownership has changed twice. I have had some problems with their repairs, but always because they tried to save me money instead of doing a huge repair that has to be done by a dealer and costs more. Way more. read more

Not sure how many stars to give or not give. I've gone here for awhile, always liked it and had good service. Went by yesterday to schedule a drop off at 9 am today to find a leak in the coolant system. I'm sure I used the wrong words because the guy behind the counter was staring at me as if I had 3 heads. After a few minutes it was so awkward I found myself leaving apologizing for having bothered him. Not sure that this is good for business to make customers feel so unwelcome. I have a Jaguar and usually only let the dealership work on my car. BUT, Circle is the exception to this rule! I have been going to this family owned shop for around 12 years and they have ALWAYS been helpful and honest! For example, I had a lamp light out and had them check it. They changed the bulb and charged me $ 3! Of course, I gave. them a great tip! They do many things that I used to take my car to the dealer to do. I do not worry because if the repair on my car is too complicated, or they can not be competitive price wise, they are honest with me. So, I go to them and feel happy they are such a great shop. I inherited my dad's 2000 Kia back in 2005 after he passed away. He had taken decent care of the car, but it was definitely in its maintenance window (and still is). Overall, I have found Stacy at the garage to be honest and trustworthy when it comes to making decisions about the care of the vehicle. I also never feel like I've been ripped off on a repair, which says a lot given the number of problems the car has had do to my own neglect of it. He is also incredibly fast and considerate. I'm driving on Reno Road listening to my music - it's a gorgeous Sunday afternoon - my tire hits a pothole and there's that dreaded noise, the sound of my tire deflating rapidly. Two minutes later I'm pulled over waiting for AAA. The next day I take my car (which now has three big wheels and one small wheel) to Circle Exxon (I had checked out the other offerings on the Northern stretch of Connecticut Avenue and none of them really excited me- some even seemed sleazy). These guys made it easy-they ordered my tire, told me it would be in by the afternoon, and that they would call me when it was in. Five hours later, they called, I drove my car over, the tire was put on. The whole thing took maybe five minutes, and it was painless and relatively cheap. Honest, polite, and dependable--everything you want in an auto repair shop. I just moved here and I found this shop because they were recommended on the AAA website. I had a problem with my A/C and a slow leak in the tire. I was a bit worried about the A/C problem since that is something that is likely to get expensive very quickly. Dave called me within a few hours of drop-off, told me they were relatively minor problems, and fixed me up for just $40! Not a good place to go. They want to steal your money. I have a 1991 Honda Accord SE with around 205,000 miles on it and I needed them to check on a starting problem I was having and my exhaust system. When I talked to the guy on the phone he said" JUNK IT!" I couldn't live with myself if I charged you to fix this car. I was confused. It would run fine when it started and the muffler was just rusted so what can't be fix? They said my whole exhaust system was rusted from the manifold to the muffler. WRONG! They said my CV joints were shot and made it seem like it was the end of the world. Also, my front brakes need to be replaced and he made it seem like I was going to die if I drove it. He quoted more than $1000 already without figuring out the starting problem. I believe in hanging onto your car if you can. Get the most out of it and then junk it. So I had it in my head that I had to get rid of my car. Two months pass with my car sitting idle for the most part and I take it into another mechanic in Blandensburg. Those guys said that I just needed to replace three parts right now on the exhaust system and the catalytic converter was fine (which is usually the most expensive and Circle Exxon said I needed to replace). In about 6-8 months I should get another pipe of the exhaust system replaced. Oh, and I got my exhaust system fixed for $350 dollars! So all and all they made my car sound like a goner when it still has life in it. So boooo Circle Exxon for being so wasteful and greedy. read more

Started coming here when I lived in the neighborhood. Have since moved but continue to bring my Honda CRV for service. Always professional, courteous and completely reasonable prices. They always call before proceeding on repairs and tell you what has to be done vs. adding on extra non-essentials. I have been going to this place for nearly 5 years now. I don't know anything about cars but they don't always charge me an arm and a leg and they let me know if I don't need to get something fixed immediately - which makes me think they won't unnecessarily charge me like some places. The estimate is always free and usually done the same day. Usually they can fix up the car within a couple days, if they don't have the parts on site. Every time I've gone in, they have been very professional and courteous and my old 1998 Mazda is still running really well. Also, because it's a gas station, you can pick up the car after the mechanics shop is closed, which is handy for working people. read more

My car was towed to that location by AAA because my power steering fluid leaked out and I couldn't drive. Since then, they didn't check my car or call me for a day because they didn't know "what to check in my car" (usually when you tow your car you check things that make it undrivable... ) 2) The service with very overpriced, I payed 165 for power steering fluid hose replacement, which in my opinion is very overpriced. I could have easily done it myself if I didn't have to tow my car... 3) Horrible customer service. Didn't explain what they did, what they changed, or how the charges worked. Didn't want to give 10% discount that I was supposed to get because of AAA membership and because of the fact that AAA towed my car to them... So far it's been couple of days and my car worked, so that's a plus; other than that would never recommend this place to anyone. read more

Had a confusing sort of transaction here and found everyone to be super helpful. I was very pleased with the service until I realized a few days later that I had actually been double charged. I called, expecting it to be a huge pain to try to get it fixed, but instead the gentleman on the phone knew right away who I was. He said, "We figured it out the next day but I had no way to get a hold of you." He was genuinely glad I had called and happy to fix the problem. Went the Chevy Chase Circle Exxon to purchase propane gas for a bbq later this afternoon. When I picked up the "Propane Taxi" propane tank, turned to Missi (the Exxon attendant with purple hair) and told her that the tank felt light. She told me "no, it's full, it's sealed". Got home and weighed the propane tank, I was correct, it was only 3/4 full. I paid for a full tank and received one that wasn't. Would have gone back but guests were coming. Also assume that Missi wouldn't have been interested in hearing it. read more

After a trip to the Toyota dealership in which I was quoted over $2,000 for 7 different repairs, I took my car here for a second opinion. Dave said that only two of the things really needed to be fixed and he did it at half the price quoted by the dealership. I knew dealerships were a rip-off but I've been lucky enough to have my dad fix all my car problems at cost, so I never really knew how bad it could be. I asked Dave to check out all the things on the list and while I could have been told that every one of them needed attention, I was really impressed by his honesty as well as the price. I've dealt with numerous repair shops and dealers and I have usually felt like I was being taken advantage of. Circle Exxon did the job at the right cost and I moved on without feeling swindled.
