My pup had 3 eye infections in less than a year. Smear test, & antibiotics were prescribed by 2 different clinics. Unfortunately it was just going to be another temporary fix. I brought her here and found out she had, distichiasis, eyelashes which were growing back into her eye which was causing a secondary infection. Take your pets somewhere else. They deserve better. Honestly. When I moved to the area I had two frenchies with eye ulcers. I had taken them to eye doctors in houston and Fort Worth. Those were great. This was not the case here. First, let's start with the front desk. I can't tell you how many times I've arrived and waited 5-10 minutes to check in because no one was at the desk. They also overbook constantly. Be prepared to wait 30-60 minutes in the lobby to be seen. Once in the room you'll wait another 15-20. A high note are the vet techs. They were smears very kind and caring. Now the doctor and his resident are another story. Dr. Millichamp always seemed irritated when we came in. Not the best bedside manner. Kept saying frenchies will continue to get eye ulcers when I have had them treated and done in weeks at other places. He dragged their treatment out for months and they needed more and more procedures. When I took them to the new eye doctor after I get fed up with their practices they all literally gasped when I told them how many treatments they had done. His resident is beyond rude. She never even opened her mouth to speak to me during the entire 6 months I went in with my dogs. My last appointment they called me and asked if I could come in early. I told them I would change my schedule but if I came in early I am not waiting 30-60 mins. They said okay! I get there and they instantly tell me they are backed up and it'll be a long wait. I told them absolutely not. You asked me to help you out and you agreed to be on time. The tech told the doctor and he came in right after irritated because I asked them to honor their promise. After that I decided I was done and would never return. I ended up driving to cypress and found the most amazing and caring ophthalmologist there. She got my pup healed within days. Gave me eye drops to cure all of the conditions they've been battling for months. My poor babies suffered for money when they could have been healed and happy. That's absolutely terrible. Best care ever for my blind dog who ended up seeing because the vet diagnosed and treated my Spot.

OVERPRICED/INCOMPETENT. Notice the similarities between bad reviews. I spent over $800 here in the duration of two weeks (two visits for the corneal ulcer on my cats eye) and the medications given never fully healed her!! First visit was $400 for diagnosis and medications. They scheduled me for a follow up visit one week later which cost me $350 though they simply looked at her for 5 minutes and refilled the meds which could have been done at home. (Other vets had me email them photos of her eye to see if it was responding to medications) Though THIS is where I became extremely frustrated with these people -- after my second visit they wanted to schedule me yet again one week apart so I explained to the front office clerk I simply couldn't afford to spend $400/week on my cat even though I wish I could. Suddenly the front office clerk is recommending I get my medications signed off through VetRX instead of in house. I didn't know I had an option? I was disgusted by the price difference in which they're charging for medication in house compared to order. $70 for $20 medication .... $40 for $8 medication and so on. I could have saved $300 on medications from the start if they would have just given me the option. Now understand that it gets worse after this! Picking her up from the second visit they tell me her other eye (not the eye I brought her for) has glaucoma and she will eventually go blind/need her eye removed. NOW LOOK AT PREVIOUS REVIEWS! This is not the first time these people have told others coming in for a seperate issue such as corneal ulcer that their animal has said condition. It has been over a year; she is not blind and her eye is fine. Other vets say she DOES NOT have glaucoma and the pressure in her eye is not elevated. I whole heartedly believe from experience the owners of this place do not care about animals and only financial gain. BTW: if anyone is reading this and your cat has a corneal ulcer try colloidal silver it is safe to administer to animal and humans eyes. It removed the ulcer when the meds they prescribed wouldn't and literally in the duration of 3-5 days. Literally the medications they prescribed her did not work $800 later. I don't expect a specialist to be cheap but I expect them to fix and properly diagnose the issue if I'm spending $800. read more

Living in a large city, we forget how fortunate we are in many ways. Not only do we have many resources available for our pleasure, but we also have a variety of top-notch facilities available in the medical field for our loved ones, and that includes our pets. From our initial consultation and evaluation at Eye Care for Animals, we knew that Dr. Millichamp and his staff were "cut from a different cloth." Face it, no one comes to a veterinary ophthalmologist unless they really need care. Therein lies the key: the word care, for it has multiple meanings, and each of them is meted out with great diligence and compassion. One of our dogs (a recently-diagnosed diabetic) lost her sight virtually overnight due to cataracts. An evaluation determined that she was a candidate for surgery, which was scheduled for three weeks later. Certain other tests needed to be done in the meantime (a glucose curve), and her eyes needed to be prepped for surgery with specific eye drops. All pre-op instructions were clear, concise and logically explained. On the morning of surgery, she stumbled into the office, nearly completely blind. Cataract surgery is outpatient, so that afternoon we picked her up, and, despite the fact that we were told her vision would be "somewhat cloudy," she clearly walked out seeing where she was going, stepping off the curb and waiting at the car door, for she was now a very-obviously sighted dog. What a miracle! A follow-up the next day checked her progress, as we had been given a detailed chart of multiple eye drops to administer each day; the chart was set up like a check sheet for me to mark off at each administration so that I wouldn't miss one. Wow! What a help! Two weeks later she was in for another re-check: all was looking good! Each time we'd visit for a re-check, we were always treated with courtesy; it was if she were the only dog that they were tending to, for if we rambled and asked questions, Dr. Millichamp and his staff would remain and talk with us for as long as we needed them to. Above everything, though, was the way our dog was treated. She was always first talked to, petted and comforted prior to the beginning of an exam; healthy treats were readily available (oh, yes, she's very food motivated!); and exams were never, ever hurried. These methods gave lots of time for her to relax and be more cooperative and for us to ask questions if we needed. Medicine (eye drops) were always checked for potential refills when we went into the office; new check sheet charts were always printed up for us if any medication schedule changed, too. Posted on my fridge, that chart is a lifesaver! I cannot say enough good things about Dr. Millichamp and the staff at Eye Care for Animals. The difference it has made in my dog's life has been profound. We are very fortunate to have such skilled professionals so close to us; the day that her surgery was done, I met someone who was commuting back and forth between her home in College Station and here for surgery and follow-ups, for there are no other choices for veterinary ophthalmologists unless you travel to a big city (Austin, Dallas, Houston). I, personally, am very thankful for Dr. Millichamp for a variety of reasons - but the biggest reason: He has given my dog back her sight. Oh, how glorious is that? read more

I've never had such an awful experience - with any "professional" - in any field - under any circumstances. I use the word professional loosely, given the absolute ridiculousness I suffered during an attempted appointment today. If I could leave a review with zero stars, I would. I drove an hour to be there. There was normal Houston traffic, plus an accident. I was late by 9 minutes and 30 seconds. I also had a client of my own on the phone during my arrival. Since I'd arrived just under my personal 10 min late rule, and I'd been on a client call on the way to the appointment, I had not phoned ahead. My 13-week-old puppy isn't leash trained yet, so it took a minute to get her moving. I was six feet from the door when the receptionist called to tell me that they wouldn't be able to see us. (Now ten minutes late). I could barely hear her and my dog was starting to dance on the hot concrete, so I had to pick up my dog. Holding a giant squirming puppy, I said, somewhat frustrated and somewhat straining under the weight of the dog, "I'm in the parking lot. I'll come inside to yell at you." I approached the desk and with muted passion and tried to explain (yes, I whined loudly) that I'd driven an hour to be there; that it was ten minutes, but the receptionist stood right off repeating, "We are NOT doing this." Another woman came. They complained I was not wearing a mask, but would not give me one when I asked to comply. I've always been loud. I've won literal trophies for dramatic performance. I don't communicate quietly unless I have to whisper. I wasn't yelling. I was whining with passion. This tone wouldn't have gotten my kids to look up from their iPads. I never acted aggressively. I complained. I also explained that I was not trying to be ugly. That I was frustrated at having driven an hour's time just to be treated like a criminal. I asked why I was not told of such a strict arrival policy when I made my appointment by phone. No answer. They only wanted to attacking me for not having a mask and getting me to leave with my business. At this time, they declared that not only were they cancelling my appointment, and that they would not reschedule it. I was no longer considered a client, and they asked me to leave. I apologized again, and after a brief explanation of my bad week, they seemed to relent and told me I could call and reschedule when I "calmed down". I said thank you and left. When I called the office back, and calmly asked to reschedule my appointment, I was informed that the manager had LIED to me and that they would not accept me as a client. Those women didn't know I'm in the middle of a stressful move and that my closing has rolled three times, costing me thousands of dollars. They had no idea I had no intensions of yelling, despite my word choice. They didn't know that just the day before, I'd been t-boned by a vehicle with my kids in the car after being hit only two weeks before by another careless driver. They knew they had power, though, and they weren't afraid to use it. They didn't know anything about me, and in the face of a complaint, they bullied me, lied to & manipulated me, and bullied me again. One of the most frustrating parts e is that I was told that, had I called, that my ten-minute delay in arriving would not have affected my visit. So, what that means, is that they could have easily seen me when I arrived, especially after my explaining that I had driven an hour to be there [and support their business].They chose to be unprofessional, rather than to accept my apology and make money. They used veiled threats and lies to force me to leave and power tripped even when I complied to their terms of rescheduling. As a business owner, I would be mortified to have had ANY client, much more a NEW client treated this way. I'd find out why my employees feel that it is appropriate to act that way, behave dishonestly, and push away business. That puts lies in the mouth of Eye Care for Animals. I did my time in customer service. I know that not everyone is going to treat me right. I also know that it is my role as a customer facing figure to maintain composure and represent my employer with integrity and respect. Even angry customers pay the bills. They don't know they were the straw that broke this stressed-out camel's back. They didn't know and they didn't care. All they knew is that a potential client used the word 'yell', so they dropped every shred of professionalism they're paid to maintain and they acted like power-hungry, reactive Karens. They also didn't know that I'm a professional breeder and that the client they sent into a near panic attack represented repetitive, consistent business over the next decade. I would give this place 5 stars if it was closer! They opened a second office in The Woodlands...come on- open an office closer to town please :) I was seeing the other doggie eye doctor in Houston for about a year when Eye Care for Animals opened...I think they are more up to date on the cutting edge procedures and eye care treatments than the other place was. My Boston's treatment changed (more eye drops and whatnot) but his tear production increased as well! At first they pushed surgery on us (they can take a salivary gland and implant it in the eye so the eye gets moisture again) but I really don't want to do the surgery for various reasons, and after a few follow up visits of me resisting surgery, they stopped pushing it. Every time we come we feel extremely welcomed, from the front desk staff to the "Welcome back Hunter" message written in our exam room. They will work with you for sending out refills on medications and can recommend the cheaper pharmacies to get prescriptions filled. read more

My 15 year old dog had a melting ulcer and my vet referred me to Dr. Millichamp. All the nurses were terrific, answered every question, and were extremely knowledgeable. The doctor's prescribed regimen of eye drops worked and after a week the eye was healing tremendously. However, in a freak accident at home, my poor senior dog hit his eye (despite wearing a cone) and it ruptured the cornea. It was a traumatic injury and I called the office crying, the nurse Christina was very calming and said to bring him in immediately. Dr. Millichamp said he needed emergency surgery to remove the eye first thing the next morning. I was very nervous because of my dog's age and already declining health. Dr. Millichamp was very reassuring and confident in their anesthesia techniques for high risk dogs. The surgery went well and my boy survived! It was a very scary experience but the care and expertise of everyone at this clinic was first class. They were very clear in pricing and quotes up front. I felt like my senior dog was in such good hands here and will recommend them to every dog and cat owner I know. This was a month ago now and my dog healed very nicely, Dr. Millichamp did an phenomenal job. My husband asked me today if I had written a review yet, because he was impressed as well, lol. TAKE A PHOTO OF YOUR QUOTE! I was quoted $1,200 then I made the appointment and when I dropped off my dog. The girl in the front desk sat down with me and went thru three page. The first page they showed me was a price breakdown, the second page is to allow CPR if needed which I had to initial, and the third page was to allow them to do surgery which I had to sign. Once I arrived to get my dog the price jumped to $2,100. I asked to see the paperwork from before and the paperwork was now stapled together, which wasn't before, with a new price breakdown! The manager said the price was always $2,100. Since I had no proof of the price change I have to take this as a learning lesson. read more

Today as I Ieft Eye Care for Animals I advised Dr. Nicholas Millichamp that my dog would no longer be a patient under his care.  Although Dr. Millichamp is no doubt a skilled board certified ophthalmologist he seems to have forgotten that he received his certification from a board of veterinary ophthalmologists, not God. This afternoon my dog was scheduled to see Dr. Millichamp for a recheck appointment on her eyes. Dr. Millichamp entered the room accompanied by his veterinary technician and a veterinary resident, Dr. Hannah Visser.  No prior mention was made of my dog being seen by a resident and upon entrance to the room no one asked if it was OK for Dr. Visser to see my dog.  After discussing my how my dog's eyes were doing since the previous visit Dr. Millichamp advised his resident Dr. Visser to examine my dog's eyes and left the room.  I told Dr. Visser that I wanted the examination done by Dr. Millichamp at which point she abruptly left the room.  She then, in a very judgementally rude tone, told Dr. Millichamp (who was standing outside the opened door to my exam room) that I didn't want her to see my pet.  Dr. Millichamp then re-entered with Dr. Visser (who clearly had taken my request personally & now exhibited a defensive attitude) & explained that the resident in this practice typically does the physical exam that is then presented to Dr. Millichamp.  I told him that I would prefer if he perform the physical exam because I appreciated the warm manner that he had handled my dog with during the last visit.  I fail to see how my request for Dr. Millichamp to perform the physical examination of the eyes would warrant such a reaction.  At this point I acquiesced to Dr. Visser examining my dog's eyes but only if she readjusted her attitude & approached my dog in a gentle manner.  She did so and the examination proceeded without incident. It should be noted that I understand that residents are often utilized in a hospital setting & rely on cases to further their education.  However, I feel that it is very important to maintain an open dialogue with the Owner and ask their permission to have their pet seen by a resident.  I further understand that the findings of the resident will be relayed to the attending veterinarian & a treatment plan discussed.  However, I feel that it is also the Owner's prerogative to decline having their pet seen by a resident.  Especially if no advance mention was made of their pet being seen by a resident or if the owner feels that their pet (or themselves) have more rapport with the attending doctor with which the appointment was actually scheduled with.  After Dr. Visser left the exam room I attempted to explain this to Dr. Millichamp.  His only response was that Dr. Visser only had one more year of being a resident until she was out on her own.  While this statement is factually accurate it doesn't change the fact that it should not be so problematic if an owner declines having their pet seen by a resident for whatever reason, nor should such animosity be displayed by either the resident or attending doctor toward the owner. In my opinion, it takes more than just a knowledge of medicine to be a great veterinarian,  it also takes the ability to effectively & emphatically communicate with the owners.  Part of this communication undoubtedly  includes the ability to handle the vagaries & requests of owners.  At the end of the leash, or horse lead rope, or cat carrier, etc. there is always an owner anxious to alleviate the pain, suffering, & discomfort of their pet.  These owners come with questions & opinions about their pets.  And, here is the heart of the matter.  Simply put, if you cannot handle questions & requests from the owners maybe you shouldn't be in a service industry. Perhaps you should go back to the research sector of veterinary medicine. read more

I walked in there so worried, but their true care and professionalism put me at peace that my bulldog was in great hands. They took the time to listen to my concerns. I have seen both the doctors there for my Chiweenie named Ginger. You could tell that they both love animals a lot & they always give my Ginger lots of love. Also the front staff is very helpful and I've never experienced any problems on any of my visits. I would truly trust them with any animals of mine and I would highly recommend both of them. They listen when you talk and answer all your questions. I never feel like they are rushing us out of the office. I canceled ginger surgery to 2 or 3 times because I really wanted to do every single thing I could before we had to take the eye. And they were so understanding when I cancelled. Dr. Millichamp has been examining my Australian Shepherd's eyes for close to 20 years now. He is personable, has a sense of humor, is direct and to the point and willing to discuss the diagnosis with me without assuming that I am uninformed about the issues in our breed. I have never once had a negative experience with him or his staff. Being in the Houston area, I have a number of choices for canine opthalmologists, including some within fifteen minutes from my home, but I will make the extra trek to Tomball or regional event eye clinics to have Nick check the dogs because I trust his assessment and familiarity with my breed that much. read more

I can't say enough good things about Dr. Millichamp. I went to see him for a difficult ulcer in my cats eye. After two months of drops and meds, it just wasn't healing and I was told my my regular vet I really needed to see an ophthalmologist . Dr. Millichamp was so gentle and sweet with my cat and he gave me a couple of options and let me decide what I wanted to do. I chose to have the corneal procedure that was offered. I was in no way pressured to go either way. It's like a miracle. After only 4 days, my cat no longer had a swollen red leaking squinty eye. I still have a follow up appointment in a week, but I am very optimistic that we have finally resolved the issue. They were very thorough in everything and explained everything really well. Love this place! Dr. Millichamp is a such compassionate doctor and an excellent veterinary ophthalmologist. He previously was a faculty member at A&M Veterinary Medical School. The staff is also accommodating ,caring and efficient. My daughter has had need of Dr. Millichamp's ophthalmology services for three Min-Pin dogs, both medical and surgical. The staff other than Dr Millichamp is great but he is very cold and unfeeling I agree with others that he was very happy to take my money Our dog had several, I think 3, surgeries for cataracts and got worse with each one. In the end, he lost one eye and can barely see out of the other. He was better with the cataracts. While I can't accuse the medicine, what I can advise you, is don't do both eyes at once. If it works out, fine, pay the man and do the other. But if it doesn't, then at least your pet will have one eye, even if it doesn't work well. My dog is very happy even though he can barely see. I am incredibly impressed with this office. I called on a friday morning and they worked my dog in for a possible detached retina. They warned me on the phone, i may have a wait bc i was being worked in. I did not wait very long at all! I wasn't thrilled to go initially bc i am in sugarland so this is quite a drive for me, but the nearby places couldn't fit her in. I am glad i made the drive. The receptionists were very nice. I waited maybe 15minutes before being taken to a room. The Vet Tech Tabatha was very nice and knew what she was doing. Two vets came in, one first, male, Dr. Millichamp i believe (i am horrible with names). He was very professional. After him a younger lady came in, also VERY sweet and SO incredibly helpful. Her name started with a V, but i cannot remember, again, i am horrible with names. I was very impressed with their customer service and professionalism. So much so i had to yelp them just to right a review. I am suppose to go back in a week with my dog for a follow up and even though they are 45 minutes from me and i can go to a closer place, i will continue to see this clinic. AWESOME! read more

FRONT DESK ATTENDANT HAS ZERO COMMUNICATION SKILLS OR REGARD FOR ANIMAL'S CARE OR CUSTOMER'S TIME; MANAGEMENT FAILED TO ADDRESS ISSUE. I arrived ten minutes early for my first appointment with Dr. Millichamp yesterday afternoon. After waiting half an hour I asked the front desk attendant, Christina, what the estimated wait time would be. She said 15 minutes. I went outside to walk my dog and returned in 15 minutes. I waited another 30 minutes and approached the desk again where Christina continued making appointment reminder calls. When she hung up she ignored me completely and instead asked another woman who got to the counter after me if she could help her. I told Christina you know I was standing here first yet you ignored me again. I asked her realistically what is the wait time. She responded she would go get a manager and walked away. Several minutes passed, Christina returned and said the manager was busy in another room and would come out when she could. At this point, I had already waited ONE HOUR. I asked for the manager's name. She refused to provide it. She continued ignoring me. I left after an hour and five minutes of waiting. I did not receive a courtesy call back or apology before they closed last night or this morning. Total lack of care or concern on part of Christina and apparently their management for my time or my dog's welfare. If Christina had simply communicated to me upon check-in that they were running behind that would have been fine. I could have gone to Petsmart or a nice walk with my dog. I understand there are emergencies and doctors get behind schedule. However, Christina refused to communicate the delay, period. She was unwelcoming from the moment we stepped foot in the clinic. I have never been treated so poorly at any vet's office. There are other eye doctors in Houston. I will gladly take my business elsewhere and would caution anyone from coming here based on the way they run their front desk alone. read more

We were referred to Dr Millichamp by our vet when we first got our English bulldog, Sadi, who was born blind in her right eye. From the minute we met with them, you could see the compassion both Dr Millichamp and Dr Visser have for animals. Over the next year as Sadi and her bad eye grew, we ended up having to have it removed. The entire process went smoothly, they were in contact with us throughout the procedure and answered our many questions without hesitation. Following the surgery, they have an after hours on call vet tech available who also answered questions we had the first night when we got home with Sadi. Everything surrounding the procedure went great and they took great care of her. Since then we have had check ups there and I think Dr Visser has become one of Sadi's favorite Dr's - she gets so excited when she hears her outside the exam room door about to come in! I have always said that if Dr Visser and Dr Millichamp were regular vets, I would take both our English bulldogs to them without hesitation! They are great and I highly recommend their practice!! Well, during our 1st visit, I thought that Dr Millichamp was a much better option than the other veterinary ophthalmologist in the Houston area. He seemed concerned, thorough and caring. Unfortunately, for some reason during our treatment he basically turned his back on us. Was it because he was only interested in the money? was it because his diagnosis was off? was it because I tried to discuss my dogs condition with him rather than follow his direction blindly ( no pun intended)? I guess I will never know, because for some reason he wont return my calls. Not only wont he return my calls, but he has left me hanging wondering if my dog has cancer, he may have unnecessarily removed one of my dogs eyes (he wanted to take both of them!) , he never removed the stitches after her surgery and my dogs condition has still not been properly diagnosed or treated. You are paying a premium for treatment here because he is considered a specialist, but I dont feel like my dog received premium or specialty service. He was certain that my dog had lung cancer, but the xrays came back clean. He then thought that she had liver cancer, but never took into consideration that the steroids she was on were causing the abnormal liver functions, he was sure that her eyes were filled with cancer or cancerous cells from another part of her body, but thank goodness, although there were abnormal cells, there was no indication that these cells were cancerous. Unfortunately, my dog had to lose an eye to rule this out because I was told the only way to biopsy it was to remove it. Is it too awkward for him to tell me that after all of the tests, xrays, meds and money, there doesnt seem to be any cancer? Is he mad at me because I only agreed to let him take one eye not both? Has he given up because he cant figure out whats wrong with her, or does he just not care now that he has received his money. In fairness, I am not holding his inaccurate diagnosis against him, afterall that would mean that my dog does have cancer, who wants that? I do hold him accountable for his lackadaisical demeanor post-op. I wont be giving him any more of my money and I suggest that others stick with their original general vet, they will probably care about your pet more, be less expensive and be able to refer you to another facility for tests that are out of their realm. Horrible place! And the staff is equally as bad. They seem so unpassionate here. We took our dog here and the doctor wanted to remove his eyes and said he had no chance and if not he will end up being blind. He also didnt treat our dog with any sort of care or respect. He also over charged us for medicine. Saying that the tests came outbad and that my dogs eyes wasnt doing any better. What a waste of time and money. We took our dog to another specialist and the tests came out positive and my dog had eye surgery and is able to see once again and we didnt get lied to and ripped off like this place. I strongly advise anyone here to seek any eye specialist. Seems like he just wants your money and doesn't care about your pet's needs at all. I'm sorry for what happened to the other person on here. I read your review and can sympathize with your pain and agony. Its ashame we have places like these still in business. read more
