My experience at Forest West Animal Clinic had always been wonderful when I was taking my cat there. The veterinarian was amazing--very attentive, caring, and kind. Because of those positive experiences, what happened today was both shocking and incredibly disappointing. My cat had a grooming appointment today that had been scheduled well in advance. About two weeks ago, while preparing for the appointment, I called the clinic to request a copy of his vaccination records. During that call, the staff member mentioned that he would be due for new vaccines sometime in the coming year. I specifically asked if he was currently up to date, and she told me yes. Because of this, I took time off work to bring my cat to his grooming appointment. When I gave the groomer his vaccination records, they noticed the rabies vaccine record did not list the exact expiration date and asked me to call the clinic to verify it. When I called, the staff member told me that the rabies vaccine my cat received was only valid for one year. I explained that this couldn't be correct because I clearly remember being asked at the appointment whether I wanted the three-year rabies vaccine, and I have paperwork from that visit showing that my cat received **PUREVAX Feline Rabies 3 YR**. Despite this, she repeatedly insisted that the records I had were incorrect. I then asked if, since this appeared to be a clerical error on their end, there was anything they could do to make the situation right. Her response was essentially that there was nothing they could do other than provide the records they had. There was no concern for the inconvenience this caused, no attempt to investigate the discrepancy, and no effort to resolve the issue. What concerns me even more is the potential impact on my cat's health and safety. If I had relied solely on what their records showed and something had happened because I believed he was protected when he wasn't, the consequences could have been serious. That possibility was met with little to no concern. The veterinarian I saw in the past was excellent, but my experience with the front office staff today was unacceptable. They were dismissive, arrogant, and showed very poor customer service. Instead of listening to my concerns or trying to help, they repeatedly told me I was wrong despite the documentation I had in hand. I left feeling frustrated, disappointed, and with very little confidence in the accuracy of their recordkeeping or their willingness to take responsibility when mistakes are brought to their attention. Unfortunately, based on this experience, I cannot recommend Forest West Animal Clinic. Also, let's not forgot her main response was "Well maybe you should find a different clinic." I've written about Dr. Griggs and her awesome staff before, but I want to acknowledge a newer member of her team, Dr. Alborta. This doctor, like all of Dr. Griggs' team members, and Dr. Griggs herself, is empathetic, skilled, thorough, and goes the extra mile for your fur babies. Dr. Alborta took fantastic care of my baby girl, who was found to have constipation. She worked on her yesterday, but my girl was still constipated today. Even though today was Dr. Alborta's day off, she actually went to the clinic twice to do the enema and take more x-rays of my baby's colon to be sure she was now empty. She actually texted with me also several times, ON HER DAY OFF!! You just don't find vets like this often, and I don't know how Dr. Griggs finds so many awesome team members, but she obviously picks nothing but the best. Dr. Alborta has been with Forest West for a few years now and helped me when another one of my babies needed to cross the rainbow bridge, but her caring bedside manner with my constipated girl just exceeded my expectations and deserves acknowledgement. I've been driving across town from my place to Forest West for the last 15 years any time any of my four-legged children are sick, and even though there are many vets so much nearer to me, none of them can hold a candle to Forest West and Dr. Griggs' high standard of care. Not unusual to experience extended wait times. Most recent appointment we waited one hour in the exam room with no communication from anyone. If the Dr. was delayed due to an emergency, that is understandable, meanwhile, I witnessed later appointments that were taken care of. Better schedule management is key. Moving the last two of my five pets to Cypress Fairhaven. The extra twenty minute drive is worth the huge improvement in customer service. read more

Despite all of the COVID-19 chaos, the professionals at Forest West still go above and beyond to make you and your pet feel cared for! This goes from the receptionist, all the way to the vet tech and doctors. I brought in a sick stray and came out with all procedures and testing done within an hour and a half. They are quick but concise in their care, even letting me take her home on a warm pack with a towel in a cardboard crate because she was cold! The doctor also took care to call me after a week to check up on her progress and remained extremely knowledgeable and sincere. I will definitely continue to take my little animals here for future health checkups and sick visits the next time I am in Houston! read more

I have been coming here for years and the wait times have always been terrible even with an appointment. I recently brought my dog in with gastric distress and they had me wait over an hour and a half and I still never saw a doctor. I could hear them in the other room helping people whose cats needed a nail trim and meanwhile my poor dog was left to wait. And this was with an appointment. Finally after waiting over an hour and a half I left. I was in my car finalizing an appointment at another vet when someone came out to talk to me. I told her what happened and there was no apology or anything, she was just like "I'll let the doctor know." It's absolutely infuriating that they would treat a long time client like this. read more

I can't say enough good things about this place. I brought my kitty in thinking she had an upper respiratory infection and when she started deteriorating quickly they worked her right in. It turned out her condition was way more serious than I realized, and Dr. Griggs took a great deal of time explaining everything to me and helping me even though I was extremely emotional. The staff was also caring, compassionate and helpful and I'm forever grateful to them. I'm so so grateful that if I had to hear hard news, it was here with this wonderful staff. My dacshund showed signs of an ear infection and some allergy related skin issues yesterday. The wonderful docs and staff saw him today (Saturday!) with a curbside drop-off system that was surprisingly smooth! It was actually easier for me, since I didn't have to wrangle him to keep him in one place while in the waiting area. He is very strong for a "weenie dog"! The techs were certainly getting in extra steps today, hope they had their fitness trackers on, racing in and out to all of the cars! My grandparents, parents, and now myself have been coming to this clinic since it first opened. It is a small community space and the people know you by name. All of the veterinarians are great. Dr. Alborta saves our dog's life after he was attacked by a large dog. Dr. Griggs is super cool too and has a very calm way of explaining serious situations. We saw Dr Griggs for our regular heart worm checkup-she was wonderful. You can't tell how wonderful they are just by looking at this place. It is in a very divey looking shopping center-Oak Forest. The vet's clinic just reads Animal Clinic on the sign and is in the same shopping center as subway and a few other hodgepodge stores. Definitely a don't judge a book by it's cover sort of thing. Everyone was friendly and the vet was really lovely. The price of the heart worm medicine was much cheaper than other places, too. read more

I LOVE Dr. Griggs and her staff! I had to take my Bengal in 12 days ago due to losing weight (9 lbs) within 6 months and having an occasional seizure. I took him 4 months ago to an emergency animal clinic and they did not listen to what I was attempting to tell them. All they were concerned about was racking up my bill by insisting that he had a back injury and needed and CT & MRI. Yeah no. So I ended up here on the recommendation of my co-worker and I am so happy that I listened to her! Dr. Griggs listened to me explain the last 6 months so we started with blood work and a couple of antibiotics and probiotics until the results came in. The next day she called and said that he has hyperthyroidism and had the pills ready for me to pick up. When I got home with the new medication I noticed that her staff SPLIT all his thyroid meds so that they can be ready to give him, without me having to stress how to cut a TINY pill. His follow up was very good also. She is very caring, listens and is super gentle with my cat. Other vets in the past have been very rough and he in turn will bite them. read more

She gave a thorough overview of the dog's health, gave practical suggestions and fair quotes for the treatments or services. They also respect the client by encouraging but not pushing services. I had Patches the cat for 21 great years thanks mostly to Dr.Griggs. She and her team at Forest West Animal Clinic gave him outstanding care. He had multiple problems in his later years, starting with heart trouble. Whatever the problem, Dr. Griggs would work some magic and Patches would be full of life and raring to go again. All the people at Forest West who handled and cared for Patches always took good care of him just like he was their buddy cat. I can never thank everyone at Forest West enough. They are the best, I highly recommend them for care of your pets. DO NOT TAKE YOUR ANIMIAL TO THIS VET! I had the worst experience with "Dr," Carolina Alborta. I took her in for immunizations and for a skin check and my dog nearly died before leaving her office! After being treated or vaccinated with a different vaccine other than what my breeder had given her, she went into anaphylactic shock! My poor dog nearly died. I had to take her to a hospital to be cared for because this woman said she closed at 6. So dear of her. So $970.00 later, which could have all been avoided if she would have only had followed my breeders immunization card, you know I was voice my concern with this woman! This woman does not know what she is doing! I since found a vet that specializes in English Bulldogs, and other animals, and she was soooo helpful, I learned so much from her in the 20 min I was there than in the 3 hrs I spent at the offices of "Dr." Alborta. My new vet even skin tested my dog and said she DID NOT HAVE MANGE like this other woman said she did. Dr. Alborta is a joke, do your research before taking your pet there. Sincerely. read more

We have been taking our pets to Dr Griggs since about 1998. They always know our names and our pet's names, but the best part is the excellent vet & staff, that our pets like too. That is critical for us, not do they recognize me. My family has always had pets. I'm 67 and have seen many vets in many cities. I feel that Dr Griggs & staff are top notch. Not all are.
