About a year ago, a construction crew was working on my swimming pool. One morning while I was a work, my rambunctious puppy Charlie somehow got wet cement in his left eye. By the time I came home, that eye had swollen to the size of a golf ball. I took him to emergency and while they did their best, the problem was beyond their expertise. They recommended me to Eye Care for Animals. Luckily, Dr. Hoffman was on call and prescribed some emergency medication to get Charlie through the night. The next day, Dr. Hoffman performed surgery and cleaned out the bits of dirt and cement from Charlie's eye. At this point, Charlie's eye was completely white, it looked like a cueball. You could not even see the pupil. Dr. Hoffman said it was the worst chemical burn she had ever seen. We were resigned that Charlie would likely be blind in that eye. Dr. Hoffman put Charlie on a treatment plan, and slowly but surely, his eye began to heal. Fast forward to today, Charlie's eye looks almost completely normal and has regained about 80% vision. Aside from some lost pigmentation, you could not tell anything has happened to his eye. Without question, Charlie would be blind today if not for Dr. Hoffman and her team. Dr. Hoffman is somebody who really cares about animals and she's great at what she does. The nurses there are great too (Jason, Bettina, Marie), all super courteous and friendly. The only semi-rude person I've encountered was a receptionist who doesn't seem to be there anymore. Most of the negative reviews are about two things: waits and prices. I personally have never had to wait too long to be seen, but I can see how if an emergency occurs, that's more urgent than getting your checkup. As for prices, yes, the surgeries can get expensive, but checkups are not bad. Keep in mind, these people are specialists. If it's not a serious problem, then by all means, take your pet to the vet. But if you want the best in animal eye care, this place is it. read more

My puppy had cherry eye surgery recently in both eyes and it was performed by Dr. Konrade who is a wonderful person. My puppy still has a little ways in the recovery process but during this time, everyone there has been terrific and they are all a great group of people. I am so happy with the results for the eye care clinic. My 10 year old pit bull had an ongoing eye issue for three months and her primary vet referred her to the eye care clinic. I was very nervous about the cost, but Dr.Konrad and the staff did everything to keep the cost at a minimum. Instead of immediately sedating my squirmy dog, Dr. Konrad and the staff used other methods to relax my dog which saved me lots of money. I saw immediate results from the medication that was prescribed and my dog finally has healthy eyes. The staff was so sweet to my dog, and Dr. Konrad let me know that I could call her if her eyes started to have issues again. I highly recommend this clinic to anyone who has a pet with eye issues. read more

Beware of this money factory. Our 13 year old senior dog had a growth on his eyelid and our vet suggested we go to Eye Care for Animals in Pasadena and perhaps they could remove it. Because of the age of the dog and his heart condition, our dog was forbidden from having general anesthesia. We phoned first and asked the cost of an office visit: "Between $100-250" we were told and it depended on 3 extra tests the dog might need to get. While waiting in the lobby, we heard two other visitors get "estimates" from a tech, all were at least $2,000. When we took our dog into an exam room, the tech immediately performed all three tests (which took all of 5 minutes to perform) without asking us first. It was irritating as the three tests were completely unnecessary for the issue we were in for. Our office visit was suddenly the maximum $250. Both doctors looked at the dog and said they could remove the growth with local anesthesia -- all good. We questioned sending the removed tissue to the lab on such an old dog. She said the tech would take that off our "estimate." The doctor left, the tech came back with our "estimate" - $1000 for the procedure. She said we'd have to leave the dog and they could do it in the afternoon. We left the dog and they phoned us an hour later saying it had been done. It really seemed like they could have just done it while we waited and spared our poor arthritic dog the trauma. His back legs were starting to give out during the exam and when we picked him up, he could barely walk. It really seemed they were justifying the $1000 price tag. When we picked up our dog, they had taken off the growth and it looked good but his poor back legs had completely given out and his docked tail was bleeding (something nobody seemed to have noticed or mentioned and we didn't see it until there was blood on the backseat of the car). We were told we had to bring him back in two weeks for a check-up. When we asked if the check-up was included in the $1000 we had just paid, she said, "No because we hadn't paid for general anesthesia for our dog." We would have to pay another office visit fee, What a ridiculous rationale for charging another office visit fee to the customer. Needless to say, we will let his normal vet check him out and not return. Like I said, the growth was removed and it seems to be just fine, but Eye Car for Animals has a very large staff to pay for, it's a franchise and obviously it's all about making as much money as possible. We question how "caring" they are when this could have been performed while we waited and put much less stress on our dog. It also seems a little uncaring that nobody noticed the poor dog's tail was bleeding. It feels very much like being at a shifty used car dealership and I cannot recommend this business. Although Eye Care For Animals is a bit pricey, my dog and I had a great experience here. My dog got caught in the eye by one of my cats during one of their spats. I was referred to Eye Care For Animals by the animal hospital I took my dog to. I was able to come in for a walk-in appointment the next day. I didn't wait more than 20 minutes. The staff was polite and explained everything in detail. I would come here again if my dog had any more eye issues. read more

I took my 6 year old terrier in as an emergency for glaucoma late Sat afternoon...her eye had suddenly turned blue...pressure which should be under 20 was 60. There is too much damage for vision to be saved; her "good" eye is being monitored and treated as well. I found Eye Care to offer exceptional service.The office is so clean, the staff so friendly, professional and courteous from the receptionist to Dr. Hoffman. Procedures, treatments and results are explained thoroughly and print outs are provided. Written estimates for special tests/treatments are provided beforehand so there are no surprises. I expected to pay over twice as much as I did....I find their pricing, esp. being specialists, to be quite reasonable. I have taken my both my pug and my exotic short hair cat to see both Dr. Hoffman and Dr. Konrade, and I can't praise them enough. They saved my cat's eye from melting away from a recent herpes outbreak. It happened so quickly and they were able to get us in right away and were able to save his eye without surgery! This veterinarian clinic is tops in my book. Let's start off with the staff. They are friendly, caring and very knowledgeable. The veterinarians are the best. Because they deal only in eyes, they really know what they're doing. My dog somehow got an ulceration on her cornea. We were out of town in our RV, so I took her to a local vet. They treated her with medication and pain pills until we could get home to our regular vet. Our regular vet referred us to Eye Care for Animals. They wasted no time explaining everything to me in depth. They suggested surgery. They told me without the surgery it would take about four months to heal giving her eye drops and pain pills. Because she was in so much pain, I opted for the surgery. The surgery went well, with no complications and she is finally on the mend. You don't have to wait long in the waiting room. They see you almost immediately. Each follow up visit ended in them taking my dog into the back to "clean her up a bit" because the fur around her face would get a little messy from the meds and the fact she couldn't clean herself up due to the cone. I highly recommend this hospital if your animals are having eye issues! read more

Dr. Hoffman is cold, dismissive with a despicable bedside manner--I took my beloved cat of 22 years to her after my cat went blind as a result of high blood pressure. Dr. Hoffman told me nothing that a google search and a regular veterinarian as well as a neurologist hadn't already told me about my cat's blindness. While Dr. Hoffman wasn't talkative (she was aloof, annoyed by questions and did not look at me when speaking) and acted as if my cat's condition was banal, ordinary and not worth her time or expertise, she became more animated and expressive when it came to requesting a follow up exam ($$$). Additionally, her front desk staff failed to confirm receipt of my cats records--even though I called several times to ensure that they had received the records. The front desk assured me that they would obtain the records, not to worry, not to call back to check on receipt--of course when I arrived for my cat's exam they did not have the records at which point I expressed my annoyance. Dr. Hoffman came to the lobby and poked my arm and said she didn't need the records--did I want to keep my appointment. If medical records are not necessary, why didn't the front desk tell me that from the beginning? If you need a specialist such as Dr. Hoffman, I would go to someone else to make sure that you are getting the best medical care and bedside treatment that you will undoubtedly pay for. read more

This is the most caring and professional vet and staff we have experienced. Our Lhasa had TWO detached retinas and our vet here in Las Vegas recommended Dr. Hoffman to us as a last resort for a miracle to save his eyesight. We drove from Las Vegas to Pasadena within a couple days. Dr. Hoffman worked us into her schedule for evaluation and then did a double reattachment of retinas the next day. Yes, it was costly but not out of line when you review the expertise, time, care and operating costs involved in this very complicated surgery. We stayed in Pasadena for four days to make sure our dog was doing well before returning to Las Vegas. We recommend Dr. Hoffman and her staff for any and all eye care your pet needs. Their compassion and experience made a very difficult experience a truly positive one. Our dog's care was of the utmost importance to them. They also treated us lovingly as we went through this very traumatic time. We cannot image how anyone could complain about Eye Care for Animals. They were (and are) just GREAT!! We still don't know if the surgery was successful, but we know that Dr. Hoffman's surgery gives our dog a fighting chance to see again. This place is hands down one of the most professional, advanced, and courteous I've ever seen; for humans or animals. They weren't looking to run up my bill and were honest and up front that unfortunately our dog's eye was blind and couldn't be fixed. That said, they did an ultrasound for free just to ensure it wasn't unhealthy for him. We drive over 2 hours to get here. Dr. Hoffman is one of only Veterinarians in the country that performs retinal reattachment surgery. She has worked on birds, snakes, hippos, rabbits, and more, but for us, she has taken care of our baby girl Jasmine the pug. We have gone to 3 other eye vets in San Diego, and while 1 of those was very good, no one comes close to Dr. Hoffman. The love and concern that she has given to Jasmine is priceless. After her first surgery, Jasmine had to spend the night being watched at a nearby hospital and Dr Hoffman called all through the night after doing surgeries all day. She then had to fly out for a conference the next day but kept in touch calling my personal cell phone to check on Jasmine. Jasmine ended up needing retinal reattachment on her other eye a month later. We did not hesitate to put her in Dr Hoffman's hands again. Jasmine is OUR BABY. This time after surgery, she let us come in immediately after to hold and comfort her so she wouldn't go through as much respiratory stress and it was because of this we were able to take back to the hotel for the night and care for her. I had to call Dr Hoffman a few hours later with nervous mommy concern, and she helped me put me at ease. She has done much more than we could ever repay her for. Yes, this is expensive, but while there are hundreds of eye vets trained to do cataract surgery in the area, she is top notch. Google her credentials. The Staff is amazing. This place was amazing. First off they saw me the same day when they had no appointments available. My dog Sparky was strangled while being groomed and received an eye injury. After I took him to an emergency room and followed up to his regular vet, his doctor refered him to eye care. The vet tech (Jason) was very knowledgeable and helpful. The doctor was very thorough, they kept sparky calm and relaxed, I was actually amazed how well he behaved for his exam. They followed up with a phone call to see how sparky was doing. If you love your dog do not go here. I went to Allison Hoffman, after my dog was attacked from another dog and his eye popped half way out . I took my dog to urgent care the night before and was told that he had a 50/50 chance of seeing again. I wanted a second opinion and went to Allison. She said she would not know if the dog could see unless she took the eye out and put it back in. I trusted her, and what I got was a horror story. My dog came out with and eye that looked like a monster. I said to her, I can't look at this. It was awful. She said would you like me to sew it shut ?? I said I just want what's best for him. He was in major pain. I called 2 days later because it was pus .They said they where booked and couldn't see me till 3 days later. I went to my vet and he was disgusted. He couldn't believe it. I was given no drops nothing to keep the protruding eye from drying up. I called and said I need to come in. They said you are calling on a surgery day. And would not see me. I said I have too. He's shaking and sick. They said fine you can be a walk in. I got there at 9. The lobby was full. I waited till 12:30 with a sick shaking dog. Another person was there for a surgery and couldn't believe I was there when she did drop off and pick up. When we started talking about how upsetting this was they finally saw me. I was informed the eye was infected, and needed to be removed. 5000 for first visit 2000 for removal. And I live with the gilt of torturing my dog. The doctors and staff here are some of the friendliest and sweetest dog care specialists I have ever come across. Anyone who has to take their beloved pooch to the eye doctor will undoubtedly be stressed and upset by the circumstances but the people who work there are very comforting and empathetic. My dog Riley, a Boston Terrier, has been treated for ulcers, glaucoma and infections from Dr. Konrade and I wouldn't want to be seen by anyone else anywhere. She really takes her time to go over the issue(s), the potential courses of treatment and is just so good when dealing with the pet (and even more importantly, the stressed out pet owner.) The support staff, Bettina to name but one, are so friendly and have a way of making you and your dog feel special and help ease any stress you may have. I am obviously happy with the results I have seen from this clinic or I wouldn't bother writing a review. But to me, what is just as important, is a staff who help walk the pet owner through the process and guide them in this time of stress/sadness/uncertainty. As many other reviewers have mentioned, the prices can be high, so its up to each individual to decide if they have the means to pay for treatment. I have had terrible service from EyeCare for Animals in Pasadena. My dog had one eye that had a pretty bad cataract in it. Dr.Konrade told me that he my dog had a 98percent success rate for the cataract surgery and he was a perfect candidate for the surgery. At the cost of $5500.00 to take care of both eyes. I had just refinanced my home and thought I would give this dog a chance for a better life. So I went for it. The following week we booked the surgery. I dropped him off and they told me to go home. No sooner that I got home and the phone was ringing. I had a sinking feeling in my heart and stomach. I answered the phone and it was them. Dr. Konrade was informing me that when they went into the bad eye it hemorrhaged so they stopped the surgery on that eye. He was now BLIND in that eye. No medication or any other surgery could fix this. I came back to the center to pick my boy up. He was groggy of course still under the anesthesia. The Doctor comes in and tells me that sorry but you signed the paperwork and this is one of the things that can happen. Enter Doctor Hoffman. I was just beyond depressed and so guilty because I trusted these people. I was in tears and desperate to do anything for my boy to give him something anything for a better quality of life. Doctor Hoffman then tells me that I should probably let them laser the retina to the back of the eye because eventually it would pull away and he would eventually go BLIND in his good eye as well. I was so filled with guilt by now I was willing to do anything to give him some sight since already botched the first eye. So yes folks,I paid another $4800.00 to make sure he had some kind of vision for the rest of his life. Well Doctor Hoffman did the surgery this time and I went home and waited again. They told me to pick him up the following day. So I made my way over there the following day and they made it sound like it went well. The next year I believe they had him on steroids. Prednisone and some other medications and each time we did the pressure on his eyes, it was always fluctuating and then it started becoming a slight decline each time. I read up on the medications he was on and how dangerous they were when taken for a long time. I realized that I was done because staying on the medications would eventually eat his liver up and he would eventually die. First off dear public,each visit is $130.00,when you walk through the door,that is not including the medications and if they have to do any special kind of tests. In my opinion, I believe that Doctor Konrade and Doctor Hoffman both played on my guilt and my desperation to give my dog a decent Life Well I told them what I thought about both of them and walked out NEVER to return again. They couldn't have cared less. My boy steadily lost his eyesight in his good eye. So anyone considering cataract surgery for your animal. Think TWICE and very carefully. My advice to all of you , LEAVE MOTHER Nature alone. They can still see with cataracts. Just leave it be. You have no idea what I go through every day and what he goes through every day. He constantly gets infections in his eyes. Like pink eye all the time. He has separation anxiety every time I leave and have to go out. I rarely do only when I need to see my own doctors for myself. Every time any unusual sounds that come out of nowhere he shakes uncontrollably like just rain July fourth lawn mowers blowers New Years guns going off to celebrate. It is heart wrenching to watch and there is nothing you can do. I have tried everything I can think of. All he wants to do is find a hole and crawl into it. My heart just breaks to see him go through this. He is older now and is bumping into things. This to just breaks my heart because I know eventually he will be affected neurologically. I have seen this before. I had a Yorkie before him that passed from a neurologic problem. It is heart wrenching to watch They do not even know who you are at the end. BEWARE of Pasadena Eye Care. When your pets needs a major surgery or just some minor attention the doctors take their time to explain everything and the nursing staff is ready with handouts and instructions to go with so that you feel very informed and ready to help your pet at home. I have had to call in regards to medication instruction and they take the time to go over my concerns one at a time and make sure i am comfortable with what i need to do. Dr. Hoffman and Dr. Konrade are very confident in there care and treatment they offer. I love that they take the time to draw things out in lames terms so that i may understand what and why things are needed for my pet. For any future eye issues I will ONLY go to Eye Care for Animals. I have a 11yr old Frenchie and we have been there many times, now I have an urgent situation and despite being a loyal client they aren't able to give me anything earlier than 2 weeks and it's at 3-4pm in the afternoon. I get it you're busy but this isn't the way to keep people. I guess they don't have to care. It's business. I called because I noticed my dogs eye was very red and bulging. She had been seen by another doctor and wanted a second opinion. I called around 8am and Nick answered the phone and seemed very professional. He told me to come in as soon as possible because Saturday's are busy. I asked him if we could schedule something for Monday. Nick told me I had better come in because the next availed date was 10/31. So I altered my schedule and got there around 11:48am. I was greeted by a young lady and she explained that the place was about to close. She told me that she heard Nick tell me to come in as soon as I could. (I did) She said she would see what she could do. I waited, and at 12:13pm she escorted me into an exam room and closed the door. Nick came in the room and asked me to fill out a form since we had never been there before. I took the paperwork and then he told me that a "fee" for staying open would be applied to my bill at the end. I asked how much and he said starting at $600 and up. I told him that was ridiculous!! He was very smug about it and said well your making us stay late, I told him he never told me what time they were closing. I was shocked and upset. He then said I should have made an appointment, I told him I tried to and that the only day he had was 10/31. I don't know how they could squeeze us in on a Saturday but not during the week. What a waste of time for me to make arrangements for my kids to get to their games. Rush my poor sick dog in the car to get seen for her ailment. I felt strong armed to pay for something I didn't have to by a smug and rude representative. This is probably why they don't have a 5 star rating. I am going to tell my vet about this disappointing referral so this doesn't happen to someone else. Oh and when I was storming out Nick sarcastically said,"sorry" and I said no you really not, then he replied again sarcastically " have a nice weekend" just to rub it in. My dog had a cataract in one eye that developed a few months ago. However, two weeks ago his second eye developed a cataract as well. He's been bumping into things at home and is unable to see entirely. Our primary veterinarian recommended to bring him here to get further testing done. Dr. Hoffman was sweet. She explained the surgery risks, the procedure and the after care. However the cost was relatively high for a regular visit. We spent $277, when the information received was the same that our primary vet had given us. The doctor also took some time to respond when we asked her more detailed questions, as if she was unsure of her answers. Also before even beginning to go into detail about the surgery and etc., the doctor tried to schedule a follow up appointment. Excuse me? We haven't even finished our visit and you already want to schedule a follow up appointment when no decision has been made on what to do? It seems to me this business cares more about taking their patients money. Due to her lack of knowledge and somewhat being all over the place I didn't like her personally. The staff was extremely friendly and the office itself is well maintained. I'm not sure if I'll be getting my dogs surgery done here. I've been referred by friends to a better doctor that I'm considering. This place was pretty average, I didn't receive any information my primary veterinarian didn't inform me about. read more

The doctors here are very nice - no problem there. The problem is Jenny, the office manager. I had an extensive conversation with her before going in for an appointment regarding examination costs. She had told me that it would be $109 - $240 for an exam. I told her that I just wanted a second opinion and would need to know if the exam would cost over $109 so I can decide to go further. I already had a lot of test done and didn't want to pay a lot more for more exams. Long story short, she wasn't there the day we went in and of course they wanted to charge me over $200 after the exam. I only paid $109 and said I would speak to Jenny since she said they would let me know if it would require testing beyond the $109 exam. All I can say is that when we spoke she could give a crap about what we spoke about earlier, nor did she want to discuss the situation at all, and just repeated her self saying I was going to be sent to collections if I didn't pay. She was extremely rude and unwilling to have a meaningful dialog - I don't think she is capable of one. Beware when dealing with her. read more

My dog developed a small ulcer in one eye. Dr. Hoffman strongly suggested surgery or it may ruptured and he would became blind. I was scared and agreed to the procedure. $3,000 and 5 months later my dog still has not recovered yet. Persistent inflammation with blood shot cornea and now a big cloudy scar from the surgery. I went back at least 7 times since and they still could not tell me what seems to be the problem. The expensive medication did not help at all yet they still charge me ranging from $150-$298 every time for the ridiculously priced office visit, different tests and eye drops. This last time I went a different doctor suggested another surgery again to remove the cyst that developed from the last surgery. I know I need to find another doctor but many regular vet do not take pets with serious eye problem like this. Really cannot afford paying so much every 2 weeks I am not happy but not sure what to do...... read more

Very rude:( I went for my 2:30 appointment and the receptionist said my appointment was not until 3:45. They apparently confirmed the appointment with an old disconnected number. She told me they would see me after all the scheduled 2:30 appointments but the wait could be an hour or more. My cat, who was from the shelter, was so stressed out that he pissed in his carrier. They cleaned him up but refused to give me a room that was quiet. Did they really expect me to wait an hour in the waiting room with barking dogs and a cat that was so frightened he was shaking? At 3pm the vet still had not seen 1 appointment that was scheduled for 2:30. I left and will never go back. Not a place that is kind to animals. read more

I was referred to Dr. Hoffman by a general practice veterinarian after my dog impaled her eye with a cactus thorn whilst chasing a rabbit. I made a 40 minute drive to Pasadena and was impressed with the extremely nice facility. It screams money. Even the multiple fashion magazines are a month in advance. And, the array of coffee, teas and cocoa are a nice touch. I felt like I was at a high-end spa in Beverly Hills. I'm on a tight budget, and I am from ranch stock, so hoity-toity small animal veterinarians are not my favorite flavor. Once I was in a private room, I did not have to wait too long before I was greeted by an army of four. It was not a large room that I was in, and with five people and a dog, it was a bit cramped and very impersonal. I was basically a fly on the wall while the two doctors and their staff mumbled exchanges regarding my dog's eye. Dr. Hoffman then instructed Dr. Koncade (Kricket or Kristen - she goes by two different names which I find weird to see her sign her report as "Kricket" but her letterhead says "Kristen") to explain to me the scope of my dogs injury and how they intended to repair it. They were very quick, solemn and intent on my call to action, ie I need to get my dog into surgery quickly. A receptionist came into the room with Dr. Hoffman and then came back with an estimate. I about choked when I saw it: $4559 to remove the thorn. Or, my other option would be to remove the eye for just over $1600. I about hit the ceiling with ire. How ridiculous small animal vets these days play of the emotions of small animal owners. It truly is sickening! Well, I said no thanks. I couldn't afford either. The receptionist who drew up the estimate asked if I could maybe borrow money from anyone I knew. Dr. Hoffman came back into the room and, again, urged me to have surgery performed. She had no guilt in letting my dog leave the office in the pain that she was in. She did not offer any pain killers nor antibiotics. I think she is a cold-hearted bitch. I work with animals on a daily basis as I am also in the industry of doctoring animals to some degree. I would never, ever leave an animal in pain. Well, guess what folks. I found an incredible vet, that does not judge the pitbull breed like many vets do, and he is honest, realistic, logical, practical, and all of the above. He removed the thorn for and gave me all the medication I need for $535. Yep! $4000 less. I had my dog scheduled for eye removal the day after I visited Dr. Hoffman's office, but my dog's eye appeared a bit better on day two, so I postponed. In the meantime, I found a vet that has a lot of experience with eye surgery in the Fillmore area. My dog did, indeed, have a thorn in her eye about almost a centimeter long near her iris. Dr. Hoffman could not tell me how long it was, but said it possibly was long enough to reach the back of the eyeball. I think that Dr. Hoffman is highly schooled as an opthamologist, but there comes some common sense with how much to expect anybody to pay for an animal. We love our pets, but the fact is, their life span is much shorter than ours. They don't live forever. I bet if Dr. Hoffman treated animals with cancer, she would encourage or coerce the pet owner to continue cancer treatment for a pet that is well past its life span. I DETEST veterinarians that are in the business for money only. No one will EVER convince me that this clinic cares about animals. They only care about stuffing their pockets. Real snobby jerks!! Like you, I searched up the Eye Care for Animals when my cat's eye started to deteriorate. My regular vet said it was a sequestrum, which like a tumor grows on the eye, the only means to remove it was surgery. Knowing this was going to be a costly expense, and seeing my cat was in so much pain, I knew I had to keep both my finances and her comfort in mind. I started doing my homework and got quotes from here and another place in W. LA. They were comparable for visits and the surgery, that would cost about $4000. I read the reviews here and quite honestly, I was scared because they had so many poor reviews. Since Eye Care for Animals is only a few miles from my house I decided to give them a try but kept in mind I would go to the one in W. LA if needed. I admit the first appointment was more costly then I had been quoted and after a very short examination Dr Hoffman said she would need surgery but it was too bad to even consider at that point, we needed to decrease the inflammation and come back. After a few weeks of round the clock treatments we were not only able to control the inflammation but avoid surgery. Dr. Hoffman saved her eye, eye sight and me thousands of dollars!! read more

Crazy Expensive ! Great staff, seems like they know what they are doing. Unfortunately I had to take my pet to another place to have a eyelid surgery done due to their outrages cost. They were more than quadruple in price. My vet charged 500 vs. Their quote was 2200 .if u can afford them I would say go for it since they are eye specialist . Fortunately my dogs eyelid surgery was a success at her regular vet. Three stars only because of the high price read more

This review addresses their follow-up care, which I found to be very inadequate. My 6-year-old shih-tzu had developed a "goopy" right eye that wasn't responding to antibiotic eye drops from his regular vet, so she referred us to Eye Care for Animals. We saw Dr. Hoffman, who diagnosed him with a condition requiring surgery. She explained the condition of his eye and what the surgery would achieve very clearly, using diagrams and verbal explanations. The surgery was extremely (and I mean extremely, in the thousands of dollars) expensive, but we love the dog a lot, so I swallowed hard and went ahead. I am not really qualified to evaluate the clinical aspects of the surgery, but I have no reason to believe that it was not performed well. My complaint is with the follow-up care. I received no call from Dr. Hoffman or even the staff the evening after the surgery to check up on my dog, nor did I receive a call the next day. Such follow-up should be standard with any veterinary practice, and when I pointed out the lapse they did apologize and say that this was an oversight and not their usual practice, but frankly, I wasn't convinced. Two days after the surgery I finally called them because my dog appeared to be in pain, and I requested pain medication, which had not been offered before because (as the vet and staff explained later), they didn't think it would be necessary and might add undesirable side effects; but it seems to me that such medication should have been provided, just in case. My call was not returned in time for me to come in for the medication that day, so I had to come in the next day, and my dog had to go without relief overnight. I also realized, some time after a follow-up visit, that I had not been correctly administering the 3 eye drop medications that had been prescribed, because no one ever instructed me how to do it in the right way. To conclude: Dr. Hoffman seems clinically very competent, but her bedside manner could use some work. Technicians Jason and Nadine were extremely kind. But I did not feel the follow-up was in any way adequate, especially given the cost of the surgery. read more
