(Note: I have been here many times over several years and have never had any issues. The staff has always been polite, friendly and respectful, food and service always good, like outside of this incident I'd rate it 4-stars). I went to enjoy the England vs. Argentina game today, as I had with previous World Cup games, and something was very very wrong. Immediately at entering I was greeted by new aggressive security people (there were many) that told me "if you can't find a seat you will be kicked out". Very unusual as last two times I was there it was literally everyone standing up and cheering everywhere while buying drinks and ordering food; this time it was half empty and quiet, as if the mood was shut down. Some people standing in what I'll assume are "safe" area's, most sitting. The place is small so there's not a lot of seating, and there were no seats visibly available. I told security I was waiting for my wife to enter and wanted to order something and stood by the bar (near the door), they didn't say anything while I stood there so figured I was fine. Within 1 minute from that moment I was grabbed (GRABBED) by the arm and was told I had to leave and couldn't come back . I went to the back patio with my wife because she arrived the moment I got kicked out - same thing back there. There was a woman security person eyeing everyone and telling them to go to Roscoe's instead, I asked her why she was telling people that when the place wasn't even that busy (compared to last time) and she said oh this is a day job but I actually work for Roscoe's; This sudden presence of intense security was so confronting and obviously making patrons uncomfortable, the place was quiet and many people were leaving. Incredible job Ye old ship management, there's nothing like changing the atmosphere for the worst and pissing off your customers simultaneously. You're a British Pub for crying out loud! No idea how things are going now as I'm elsewhere (not Roscoe's). Avoid this place (at least today), chances are you won't be staying anyway. *Management, want me to change this review? I'd be happy to.. reach out to me - I'd love an apology for this nonsense today and to know that you're going to do better next time. **as a few people mentioned this sounds like fire code issues and they probably got in trouble.. understandable, I get it, but still not ok to treat customers poorly. If security is going to be that interactive with customers you need to hire individuals with better communications and people skills. ***photos added are from previous times attending (before security) and as mentioned, there was never any issues at the old ship before and the staff was always polite and friendly. Food is ordered up front and beer is in the back bar area. The beers are all German and Belgian which is a nice change from most places. They have many styles of sausages and you can top them with any of their toppings. There's even vegetarian sausages so no one is left out. Belgian fries cooked 3 times is their other specialty served with a bunch of sauce options. There's an outdoor patio area and the bar area inside where most of the seating is. It took me too long to visit here but I'll be back soon.

Plenty of seating on a Thursday night, and the wait staff were very friendly. I also appreciated being able to pay via phone -- another little touch that reminded me of my Wetherspoons experiences back in the UK. The cottage pie was the highlight for me. The portion was on the smaller side, but absolutely delicious. The chips were great too, though certainly not British chips (still very enjoyable regardless). I'll definitely be back for a pub quiz or whenever the UK homesickness kicks in. :)

Not sure if the owner has changed because this one has gone downhill and is no longer the busy gem it use to be. We also had breakfast here a few months ago to watch soccer and the food was greasy and over salted but I just thought it was a one off bad experience. Came in during a Dodger & Lakers Friday playoff game and the bar was nearly empty while nearby spots were packed as I stopped at Der Wolf before. Upon arrival the Manager was smoking in their back entrance smoking area - Staff was friendly as usual, but I was served a raw, bloody, mushy burger (photo attached). The bar was dark, so I didn't notice until after I started eating it then I bit into the completely raw cold center and was grossed out (see photo). Easy fix (typically) here is where it gets strange. Manager offered a 50% discount or recook another burger - almost like I felt he was thinking I was chasing a free meal. I wasn't worried about the money and didn't want to wait for another burger after already being grossed out by the undercooked rawness --I said to just microwave it or to make me something quick and simple like a kids burger or a few wings to replace the uneaten 2/3 of my raw burger but I was told that wasn't possible due to "health code" reasons. Wait ....you are smoking out back and serving raw burgers and you can't microwave the remainder of my raw burger and to fix it you are offering me 50% off my burger when 2/3 was raw? The server did their best and I still tipped 25% since it was not his fault, management later comped the check and removed the tip, which unfairly penalized the server. Again I don't care about the money but I was so surprised how much this manager really didn't get it or cared until I mentioned that people get sick from raw burgers and it's a health department violation to serve raw hamburger products. This used to be a gem. Disappointing decline in food quality and management. The crowds have been dwindling. Ownership may have changed but many of the sports crowds have moved to other nearby Pasadena pubs where the food and management are much better.

Don't drink their water here...the tea water... leftover tea water gets poured into the trash can…read moreand rescooped into previously used pitchers.. basically they would pour the leftover water in the same bucket of water and rinse the pitcher in the same bucket of water and stack them up for resuse for next customer. And their hands go inside everything. They grab the rinsed pitcher, scoop the tea water and serve it. Also mind you, the tea water is inside those huge trash cans. AND when they were transferring the ice (from again those trash bins) they would lift it to pour all the ice in to the tea water bin and you can see all the dirty drippings from the outside wheels drip inside the container.. @.@ No its not a one time thing with one employee...they all knew the drill and did it like routine. Me and my friends watched the whole thing while we were just trying to enjoy some drinks at the bar. It was so disgusting, my friends wanted to pay and leave quickly but NO theres no way im paying for the drink i only had a couple sips of and couldn't finish. So i told the manager, didnt pay and left. He was not shocked ... wonder why. And now im just telling all my close friends not to go here... digusting.

Life happened, years passed, and somehow I never made it back. Fast forward to today: I was driving my Tesla, jokingly asked Grok to take me somewhere for a beer, and it pointed me right back here. Walking in felt like revisiting a place that had been quietly waiting in the background of my story. The centerpiece is still the incredible bar. Shelves stacked floor to ceiling with whiskey bottles, glowing green tile behind the taps, warm lighting, and enough character that you can spend half your time simply looking around. It's the kind of room that feels both energetic and comfortable at the same time. I grabbed a seat at the bar, watched a soccer match on the TVs, and ordered an Old Fashioned. It arrived exactly the way I hoped it would: large clear ice cube, generous orange peel, balanced and smooth without trying too hard. Just a well-made classic cocktail. What stood out most was the atmosphere. These days I'm much more likely to be exploring hiking trails, photographing wildflowers, or driving mountain roads than spending time in bars. Twelve years ago, places like this were a much more regular part of my life. Coming back reminded me why I enjoyed them in the first place. Good conversation, a comfortable seat, a quality drink, and no rush to be anywhere else. The beer taps looked extensive, the whiskey selection seemed endless, and the entire place struck a balance between neighborhood pub and whiskey destination. And not just because it has longevity, there's a reason that it has sustained power. This place is probably one of the most authentic Irish pubs I've been to. Having been to Ireland. I can attest that this is right there with a standard pub in a small town. Which makes it wonderful. The people that run the place, especially Paul, is one of the reasons why I keep coming back here. He's personable, funny, and no-nonsense right. I like his way of thinking and his approach to customer service a second to none. Now let's talk about the food and drinks. From a drink standpoint. You cannot go wrong with this place, the drinks are thoughtfully made, this guy knows how to pour a beer. As far as food goes. I highly recommend the beefeater sandwich, and you cannot go wrong with the chicken wings. Some of the best wings I've had ever. Friday and Saturday nights is usually popping pretty hard when they have bands playing. So, good luck trying to find a seat anywhere in the place. When there is an event that night.
