I absolutely loved this spot! It was reminiscent of the pubs I've visited in the UK. It didn't feel gimmicky like so many American attempts at a British pub, and the food menu is a good testament to what proper pub food should be. Plenty of seating on a Thursday night, and the wait staff were very friendly. I also appreciated being able to pay via phone -- another little touch that reminded me of my Wetherspoons experiences back in the UK. The cottage pie was the highlight for me. The portion was on the smaller side, but absolutely delicious. The chips were great too, though certainly not British chips (still very enjoyable regardless). I'll definitely be back for a pub quiz or whenever the UK homesickness kicks in. :) read more

Longtime customer here of 3 decades always trying to support this women owned business at its three locations --used to love this Luckys, but it's gone downhill. Not sure if the owner has changed because this one has gone downhill and is no longer the busy gem it use to be. We also had breakfast here a few months ago to watch soccer and the food was greasy and over salted but I just thought it was a one off bad experience. Came in during a Dodger & Lakers Friday playoff game and the bar was nearly empty while nearby spots were packed as I stopped at Der Wolf before. Upon arrival the Manager was smoking in their back entrance smoking area - Staff was friendly as usual, but I was served a raw, bloody, mushy burger (photo attached). The bar was dark, so I didn't notice until after I started eating it then I bit into the completely raw cold center and was grossed out (see photo). Easy fix (typically) here is where it gets strange. Manager offered a 50% discount or recook another burger - almost like I felt he was thinking I was chasing a free meal. I wasn't worried about the money and didn't want to wait for another burger after already being grossed out by the undercooked rawness --I said to just microwave it or to make me something quick and simple like a kids burger or a few wings to replace the uneaten 2/3 of my raw burger but I was told that wasn't possible due to "health code" reasons. Wait ....you are smoking out back and serving raw burgers and you can't microwave the remainder of my raw burger and to fix it you are offering me 50% off my burger when 2/3 was raw? The server did their best and I still tipped 25% since it was not his fault, management later comped the check and removed the tip, which unfairly penalized the server. Again I don't care about the money but I was so surprised how much this manager really didn't get it or cared until I mentioned that people get sick from raw burgers and it's a health department violation to serve raw hamburger products. This used to be a gem. Disappointing decline in food quality and management. The crowds have been dwindling. Ownership may have changed but many of the sports crowds have moved to other nearby Pasadena pubs where the food and management are much better. read more

This lucky Baldwin's location is conveniently close to Caltech and a perfect place to meet up with friends for drinks and food. The atmosphere was laid-back and there was something on the menu for everybody. They have a lot of different offerings on tap and have wonderful service. There's plenty of seating and you don't feel rushed when you're there to connect with friends. This place makes a mean steak pie and the craft beer selection is great! I wish I could say the same for the LB Burger, but it was extremely dry and frankly, hard to eat. We ordered it medium and it came out more than well done. Fries were good though and who can say no to Russian River's Pliny the Elder on tap if you're an IPA lover?! Service was good but definitely could be better by checking in from time to time for refills and additional orders of food and drinks. Street parking is usually available even on game days. I haven't been to this Lucky Baldwins branch, but we went to the East Pasadena locale for their Sunday roast dinner since I had a hankerin' for Yorkshire pudding-- which unfortunately, was not the Yorkshire pudding I expected. The Yorkshire pudding's texture was cake-y. It wasn't light and airy, nor did it have that custard egginess that defines Yorkshire pudding. The roast and sides were good though. Our dish and chips were also pretty good. The parking lot for the place is behind the restaurant and there's street parking in front. Other than their less than stellar Yorkshire pudding, Lucky Baldwins still has an extensive beer selection and menu of pub grub. This is a follow-up review because I returned. It wasn't a weekday, so no $25 deal this time -- but I will say something important: the steak fries and chicken tenders were back to perfection. This has long been my favorite spot for chicken tenders, but over the last year the consistency slipped. It became a bit of a gamble -- sometimes soggy fries, sometimes odd cuts of meat. Today? A return to glory. Crispy, hot, exactly how they used to be. The staff was kind and attentive as always. What stood out -- and not in a great way -- was what I assume is new management. I watched a manager measuring a vodka bottle on the floor in front of customers, repeatedly coming out to count bottles and say things like, "this is 8 shots off," within earshot of guests. It created a tense atmosphere. I might not work in food service, but I do work in leadership. I understand protecting margins and watching inventory. I also understand that hospitality has nuance -- drinks get spilled, remade, comped, adjusted. Publicly auditing staff in front of customers doesn't build trust or morale. It creates discomfort. Leading by scare tactics is a sure fire way to lose the respect of your staff. As a customer, I felt it. If I felt uncomfortable, I can only imagine how the staff might feel. Yuck is all I can say. I wouldn't want this person's management style "inspiring" and leading any of my teams. The kitchen being back on its game is a huge win. I want this place to succeed -- it's been a longtime favorite. I just hope the leadership style can grow or change to support the team as much as the food supports the reputation. read more

My boyfriend wanted corned beef and cabbage for St. Patrick's so I figured this place would be authentic. We ordered the top 2 recommended dishes and an apple pie for dessert. Sadly, everything was a huge disappointment. The portions were small and food was extremely bland. Not sure what they were thinking charging $19 for a few slices of meat with unseasoned boiled veggies and a scoop of stew that came with 2 croutons, NOT French roll & butter. $70 for 1 coke, 1 beer, 2 dishes, and 1 cold store bought apple pie. We left pretty darn unsatisfied. In the end, we stopped by a market to pick up some corned beef and prepared a MUCH BETTER tasting version at home. read more

Fun trivia night! I went to trivia night last Tuesday. We had a large group, so they accommodated us on their front patio. I had two pints of the Lucky Baldwins Red Belgian Blonde. We also shared some fried calamari, fries, amongst other appetizers. I only had a tidbit, but it all tasted good. Ambience and friendliness aside, I am disheartened that the food and drinks here were both terrible. My cheeseburger tasted of straight burnt meat every other bite, and my moscow mule which was mixed with ginger beer, tasted almost exclusively of liquor. I completely understand that you don't go to a bar of all places for food, but this place is rough. Our service however was fantastic and friendly. I love this place. However, management was not prepared for the first World Cup game. We were informed by our nice server that "the cook stopped taking orders for food because the cook had 15 orders and was alone" so we came to have lunch watch the game and enjoy. Good selection of beers, and typical bar food. Food was ok. Originally ordered calamari and after 10 minutes was told there was none. Ok , Ordered 10 piece wings and chicken tenders. Drinks , one ale and an Arnold Palmer . Tab $68 Overpriced bar food. Beers was great. Service unfortunately like the other reviews , seemed as if we were a bother. Wow! Has this place declined! Yes, the other reviews are accurate, the food is God Awful. I used to like to come here for a pint and fries (chips). They no longer have traditional, thick cut, steak fries - just the same old Sysco type crap everyone else carries. To top it off they were burnt beyond recognition (see photo). If a place can't make french fries imagine what their other food is like. Maybe they're trying to uphold the reputation of terrible British food. Very sad, I used to like this place but Lucky Baldwin has begun their death spiral. There are better options in Pasadena like Blind Donkey. My partner would have liked to have tried Tetley's English Ale, but our well-informed Server said 86 (aka-" we're out ") We ordered the Steak & Guinness Mushroom Pie, and Lucky Baldwin's " Famous " Fish & Chips. They are famous for good reason: always with tender cod, expertly dipped in Ale Batter & Cooked to Perfection. And not like, American food with a British name, be prepared to eat real, real British food here along with your pints and spirits. When he comes back I order a Stella and their fish & chips. I just left. Didn't get the beer, at all. No walk by to say the kitchen is taking long, sorry about your beer. This is a place we visit from time to time, so this wasn't our first visit, which made the experience even more disappointing. Visited on Sunday around 3 PM when it wasn't busy at all. Our server barely came to our table, and it took a long time just to place our order. Drinks came out quickly, but the food took much longer. Both dishes arrived cold. The fish and chips were especially disappointing. The fish was cold, the batter was soggy, and it came with one very small piece of fish, even though photos from other reviews show two pieces. The green peas were cold as well. Portions were small, the table was dirty, and overall the experience didn't match the price. We still tipped, but the service and food quality didn't justify it. This has been my go to place for a while as it is in my neighborhood and it is a nice spot for a quick drink. The service is always a hit or a miss but I don't mind as I am usually meeting someone for a quick beer /wine but today they topped their worst! Service was bad. Granted the place was crowded but if they can't handle the crowds they should let their guests know ahead of time of the wait they would have to face. Drinks menu is misleading and prices are not listed for the cocktails. Food took forever to come out - it took three reminders. Great beer selection in a pub with a pretty authentic pub feel and appearance. Service was attentive and friendly. Food was disappointing. Scotch egg was tasty but was seriously just the size of an egg for $15. Fish and chips plate was one small piece of fish with decent chips for $18. Cornish pasty said it had Cornish beef (that should be cubed but was ground) with a thin tasteless pastry crust rather than a hot water crust. For $14. This restaurant is not ADA compliant. They would not allow my medical service animal inside and stated that they must wear a service animal identification vest which is NOT required by law. I tried to explain her job which is medical alert and they didn't care, would not listen, and clearly do not know and understand what the laws are. They said we would have to sit outside. Very nice Irish bar and a great place to watch games. The service was OK; our waitress could have been a little more attentive and was slow on responding to requests . However, the hamburger I had was very good; the Irish was outstanding juicy burger, with well toasted bun, a generous amount of blue cheese and bacon. So I had a really bad day yesterday because of two unfortunate personal events. I cried for a good part of the day and needed to clear my head. I decided to walk to Lucky Baldwins on Colorado Blvd, a 15 minute walk from my home, to try and cheer myself up. My husband and I have been patrons at this Lucky Baldwins for over two decades, to have dinner and to watch sports, especially the word cup. Lucky Baldwins has always been a chill place where I can relax and have a nice time. It was about 9pm when I sat down at a table at Lucky Baldwins. I grabbed a napkin to wipe away tears that were still streaming down my face. A short waitress with short black hair came to my table and gave me a menu. I told her that I wouldn't be eating, but asked if they had a sweet tasting beer (I don't like the taste of alcohol for the most part, and I don't know anything about beer or alcohol in general because I don't drink). She said that she had something that I might like and was nice enough to bring me a small sampler. The sampler had a sour taste. So I asked her politely if they had a beer that tasted sweeter, and she just stared at me strangely. I was confused why she was staring at me, so I asked her politely if they had a sweet tasting alcoholic beverage of another kind (again, I'm not familiar with alcohol). She then suddenly and abruptly said "no" and walked off. I was confused. I didn't know if her "no" meant that they didn't have a sweet-tasting alcoholic beverage, or if her "no" meant that she decided I couldn't have a drink. I had no idea what had just happened and felt dumbfounded. So I just sat there and watched the channel, minding my own business and wiping away more tears. Within about 10 minutes, she came by my table again and asked me if I was having a bad day. I told her yes, that I was having a bad day (I thought she was asking me out of concern because I had been wiping away tears). Then she suddenly said "well you have to leave". I couldn't believe it! I didn't know what I had done to deserve her behavior toward me. I was once again utterly confused. I told her that I hadn't done anything to her and that I didn't understand why I had to leave. She then said "I don't like this" and motioned her index and middle finger between her and I repeatedly, in a manner suggestion our interaction. I then told her that I didn't do that to her (making the same motion that she did suggesting our interaction), but that she was in fact doing that to me instead. She then walked off and dismissively said "have a nice day". I LITERALLY felt like I was in the Twilight Zone. I had no idea what was going on and couldn't believe that this was happening to me, especially after my unfortunate personal events and after crying all day. Anyway, I just stayed seated and stared at the channel. I was shocked. When she next walked by my table, I asked her if she'd ever had a bad day before (I asked sincerely, and not in a sarcastic way, to try and connect with her). She then said that "I needed to leave or she was going to call the police". I then asked her if she was the owner, and she replied again that "I needed to leave or she was going to call the police". I was stunned...I had NO IDEA what was going on and why she was treating me this way. I obviously didn't want to get arrested (for NO REASON), so I stood up and started to leave. Then I became angry. As I passed her on the way out, I departed with some colorful words towards her. I also told her that I hope someone treats her like shit when she's having a bad day. As I walked away, I sobbed. I couldn't believe what had just happened. I continued to walk into the night, crying, and then eventually went home. I'm not proud of my colorful language as I exited, but she pushed me to my wits end by being disrespectful, humiliating me, and treating me like shit for NO REASON. Needless to say, I will never step into that establishment again and I hope that thing gets fired. read more

This was my second time here but my partner (who introduced me to this place) has been coming here forever. I love the ambiance of this place. It's got that old British pub feel to it and I freaking love that! Both times I've been here we sat at the bar and miss Virginia was a such a wonderful, sweet and friendly bartender/server. If you grow up in the area, this had to be one of your favorite hang outs with buddies or a date. I can or cannot remember bits and pieces of various evenings here depending on how much I drank that evening. And yes they were all memorable- including the Dodgers losing to the Cubs in the playoffs with my wife on a date night long long ago. So my wife and I were lucky enough to be back here in the middle of the day because one of my tires caught a screw and I had to get my tires replaced at the nearby America's Tires. So happy this place is opened for lunch!! It was a bit early in the day so a black cherry Kombucha was the way to go for me along with their famous fish and chips. As always the foods didn't disappoint. Forgot to get the bread pudding that friends rave about. Will have to return soon to squash that craving. Okay aside from the nostalgia, the yummy foods and great selection of drinks, the service is what puts this place over the top. Our server/bartender was the do-it-all person. She was very cordial and efficient. So impressed!! Can't wait to be back!! On Lucky Baldwin, this place and two sister pubs are named after this colorful historical figure.
