It's been a few years since my last eye appointment and I was reluctant because the last time I went in for an eye exam (elsewhere -- not here!), I felt pressured and uncomfortable; this in part was why it has been awhile since I last saw an optometrist. I saw reviews here on Yelp that it was very low pressure and that Dr. Hamasaki was very friendly. Those reviews weren't wrong! Dr. Hamasaki took the time and care to make sure I understood every part of the process and talked to me like a human instead of "a patient he needs to get out of the office as quickly as possible". I felt very well-taken care of, and didn't feel any pressure to purchase glasses immediately. They were also able to easily fit me in for a last-minute appointment. I will admit - going to the eye doctor is never my favorite thing and usually put it off far too long. So when I ran out of contracts (and my prescription had expired) during a pandemic, I had to scramble a little bit. I had never been to Dr. Hamaski's office before and was blown away by his ability to turn a routine eye appointment into such an extraordinarily pleasant experience. His care is efficient and kind (not to mention the added bonus of laughter) while most importantly being able to carve out a same-day appointment as I was leaving town for the long weekend. I typically purchase my contacts online but found myself wanting to support this fantastic office in any way I could, and they made the process as straightforward and easy as possible. I had no idea that I could leave an eye appointment so delighted; it was the highlight of my day! My very old pair of glasses finally gave up the ghost and so I had to get a new pair. Being perpetually broke, I applied for Apple Health and was approved, so I called the folks at Eye-Q about getting an eye exam (just the exam, since I was intending to order my glasses online). I explained the situation and that I'd been approved for AH and the receptionist was nice enough to ask my name and tell me that she'd keep checking the AH website provider resources to see when I was showing up in the system. I got my AH card just a few days later and was able to make an appointment to stop by for my exam. It was winter, so it was still pretty chilly - though the shop was nice and warm when I got there. Dr. Hamazaki and the receptionist were hanging out and greeted me kindly when I came in. He asked to see my poor abused glasses and handled them with care, cradling them carefully in both hands as he took them back to check something. Then it was time for my exam. It went pretty quickly and, as it turns out, it seems as though my vision had improved, so I wouldn't need as strong of a prescription as I'd had before. Dr. Hamazaki seemed to be in a bit of a hurry, but he was very professional and nice, as was his receptionist. He gave me all the information I needed to order my glasses and they're working out well for me. If you're with AH, I strongly suggest going to these guys -- they're great. Without AH or some really good healthcare coverage, a standard eye exam is going to run you a kinda pricey $100. Other places were cheaper, but AH was covering me and it's in a very convenient location for me, so that's why I went with them. read more

I needed my eyes checked since I haven't done it in a couple of years. I'm tired of paying for parking in Seattle, so I decided to use and optometrist near home. Eye-Q is open on Saturday, which keeps me from having to take time off of work. Due to issues with the doctor's schedule, he was in on Sunday, which made it even better. I show up a few minutes early and get seated right away. The doctor is very thorough, friendly and very informative. All of my insurance information had been prepared by his staff, so I just had to give my co payment and was done. I have to go back with my girl friend to get my glasses since I can't tell what looks good on my ugly mug. 5 star ratings are hard to get from me and Yelp doesn't allow a half star. The only draw back is the selection of frames may be limited for some. I highly recommend Eye-Q and Dr. Hamasaki. read more

QUALITY eye exams, Friendly staff and NO PRESSURE to buy glasses! What a great experience! Roman Hamasaki is the best eye doctor I have ever been to. He does a thorough eye exam. He is very knowledgeable and very friendly. He has a good sense of humor and makes the exam fun. At the end, he simply gives you the prescription (with your pupil distance) and there is no pressure to buy your glasses from him. I've had other doctors pressure me to buy my glasses from them (even refuse to give me my Rx). I don't get a lot of money from my insurance for hardware. I prefer to order glasses online to stretch my insurance dollars. I like going to see Roman because I am free to take my Rx and shop around for my glasses. read more

My wife and eye both needed new glasses. I currently have had the same prescription for the last several years so stuck with the same frames for over 5 years. My wife though, had not seen an eye doctor for quite a few years and could not recollect the last time she had her eyes checked. So I looked up some local doctors in the Area (Lynnwood) and found a local eye doctor through my insurance. (I checked online on many of the local eye doctors in the area) I called in and scheduled an appointment for both of us, it was very easy and the doctor was very flexible (hours are great). This is a family orientated clinic which i really like. Going to this clinic was similar in going to a friends house rather then getting a procedure done. They also have a nice selection of frames and provides you a very detailed list of lenses and cost associated with extra bells and whistles. After ordering my glasses my doctor kept me informed through email and calls of the status of my glasses (which i find awesome, currently most doctors do not keep you informed if their lab is taking longer or not, i remember from previous doctors, i had to call them continuously because they did not call if your order came in or even provide a status of what was the cause of delays). I will definitely refer my friends and family to Eye Q and Dr Hamasaki (but everyone calls him by his first name "Roman"). Go and see what he can do for your vision:) read more

I started going to Eye Q vision, 3-4 years ago when I lived in the area - liked him and the staff so much that even when I moved to Seattle I drove up here to see him. I was in a major bind with my contacts today and he really helped me out- he didn't have to do that!! And I really appreciate it and it speaks to his and his staffs character!!! Dr. Hamasaki is straight up one of the best eye doctors I have been to. As important to me he is just a great and honest person. Been to him twice and he has help my wife and I out a lot. Without going into a bunch of detail, I needed to get my prescription checked because of my job. He jumped on it, got me in for an exam, check my glasses and changed my prescription as well as writing a note to my doctor and employer. There are some businesses and professionals you run into by accident or by luck and you are so thankful you have them in your life. Dr. Hamasaki is one of those people. After switching to a different medical plan, I checked out Dr. Hamasaki and I am incredibly relieved that I did. I rarely find doctors that I can connect to and feel comfortable with, but he made me feel right at home with my first visit. He has such a down-to-earth, "chill," humorous personality that makes his patients feel at ease. My former primary eye doctor had told me that I had slight astigmatism in my eyes, but Dr. Hamasaki noticed that it wasn't incorporated into my glasses and contact lenses. No wonder I was having a hard time with my vision....He put in a direct order for a contacts sample that catered to eyes with astigmatism. I've already visited Dr. Hamasaki twice and I really enjoyed my experiences. The office is a serious gem located right next to the DMV and 100x better than the specialists in Seattle. The receptionist is extremely welcoming and kind, which only adds to the excellence of this clinic.
