With pure transparency, I must say, it is not your "sit in the spa chair and put on the massage function" type of place. It has more of the brick and mortar type of feel. You sit in a regular chair with a foot pedicure bowl, and you prop your foot on the "old school" type of pedicure chair. I didn't mind it at all because I was happy with the results. The water temperature was spot‑on, the care she took with my feet and eyebrows was so precise, and the orange‑scented scrub on my legs and feet was heavenly. I typically go to her for my pedicures, and she always does an amazing job while providing great customer service. Unfortunately, she was unavailable today. I was late to my appointment today, so I waited about 30 minutes, which I completely understood and had no issue with. However, as I sat at the pedicure bowl receiving my manicure, I noticed one by one that other people began receiving their pedicures. By the 4th or 5th person, I began to feel offended. I've been coming to this salon for a while, and I tip well every single time, so my feelings were genuinely hurt. Once the 7th person began receiving their service and my plus one had already finished his, I was completely upset. Unfortunately, I'm a true Cancer, so I was brought to tears. At that point, I decided I was done and would not be returning. When paying for the service I did receive, I let the receptionist know about my experience. She appeared surprised that I had never received my pedicure, even though she had walked past me and looked in my direction numerous times while diring each technician to their next client. When explaining my experience Sovann, the technician doing my nails, interrupted and said, "She didn't want to wait." I had to remind her that I had already been waiting for quite some time and that not one person had come to service me. She then refused to let the receptionist charge us, in a way that made me feel as though she thought I wasn't going to pay. I'm honestly not surprised by her behavior because at a prior appointment, Sovann made the comment that "Black people weren't nice to her." That caught me completely off guard, and looking back, I probably shouldn't have returned after that because she clearly had a preconception about me, but I didn't want to invalidate her previous experiences. I'm extremely disappointed in my experience today and honestly really upset that I had to experience this in the first place. I understand that I was late to my appointment, and I was completely prepared to wait because I understood that I would need to be worked in. However, after watching multiple customers receive their pedicures while I continued to wait, I couldn't help but question why I was being treated differently, especially as a returning customer who consistently tips well. I don't want to make assumptions, but given the previous comment made to me about Black people, it's difficult not to question whether race played a role in how I was treated today. Everyone hates when race is brought up, but when you are repeatedly overlooked while others are being serviced, you're left wondering what other explanation there could be. Regardless of the reason, I know how this experience made me feel, and I no longer feel comfortable returning to a salon where I don't feel valued or welcomed as a customer.
