Where should I even begin? I began going to Being in LA to see Andrea pre-pandemic (~2019) and have been going back consistently ever since. Andrea is a highly skilled practitioner of her profession, with deep knowledge of different skin types and tones; her approach is gentle and effective. When I started going to her I was struggling with very dehydrated flaky skin, hyperpigmentation all over my face and a regimen that was way too intense. She redirected me to more gentle treatments and products, helped repair my skin barrier and over time, has significantly improved the overall appearance and health of my skin. I try to never miss an appointment, and will absolutely be a client of Andrea's for as long as she's still doing the magic she does. I've recommended her to everyone who asks me how I got my skin so good, including my husband who is also a long time client. I tried to include some before and afters -- the before photos were captured during the shed phase of my last peel with an esthetician who was NOT Andrea or done at Being in LA-- but you can see the pigmentation and dehydration I was managing. I'm disappointed to be leaving this review as I really wanted to like this place. It's conveniently located for me and uses all natural products which is a huge plus, but the body and product shaming was a bit too much for me to ever return. As it was my first time scheduling here, I mentioned on the phone that my bikini line travels down my leg a bit further than what's included in a typical bikini wax as a courtesy heads up. It's not uncommon to be charged more for this and I don't mind paying the extra, but what I *did* mind was the commentary from the aesthetician about how she had "never seen anything like it" and asking me if I'd had my hormone levels checked. It's not exactly the kind of feedback you want to hear when you're laying naked in front of a stranger for the first time. She also had a lot of questions and feedback about the products I was using on my skin, and tried very hard to push a facial appointment on me. She was extremely rushed through the whole procedure and kept telling me she was going to run out of time to do everything, resulting in an incomplete wax. She charged me extra, which I wasn't surprised by, but was very disappointed when I got home and had to shave the rest of what she had missed, despite being up-charged for my original service. I wouldn't recommend this place to anybody who has "unconventional" body hair. I realize the location likely doesn't lend to a diverse clientele, but it seems if you're anything other than a cis white woman you're going to be made to feel that your body is an inconvenience to them. Pros: The esthetician was very thoughtful in her approach. You could feel the care and energy she put into the facial. Cons: Your first appt. is more expensive because they do a consultation. The consult is nothing more than what any esthetician would do at any other place. "What is your current routine? What are your goals?" Nothing that would justify more cost. Secondly, the product pushing was a bit much and throughout my entire facial, she asked what I was using for serum, then when it came to her putting moisturizer on, she asked what brand of moisturizer I was using and I was product shamed every step of the way. I would feel fin with it it if I felt that it was authentic but it didn't. To try to stop the product pushing, I said that I needed to get through my SkinCeuticals first and then I would try Jenett's products and I had every intention on doing so. When I went to check out, there were three products at the till and it felt expected that I purchase the products for $300. I have sensitive skin and very acne prone struggled with cystic acne and I have been using these products for 6 months now with visible results. Customer service - 10/10 Ease of getting appointment 10/10 Product - all natural I would give her a 5/5 for knowing her stuff and doing it well but I went on a Amazon local deal that was for two peels of your choice an enzyme or chemical. I have tons of blackheads and tough skin so I wanted a chemical peel for sure. Janette is a strong believer and teacher of going the natural way(organic) which as we know is good in the long run for your health but it resulted to absolutely zero results in allowing my skin to peel. I NEEDED a peel as much as I needed the facial which she did an excellent job on. She removed a lot of white heads and cleaned me out good but I wish she had just said she doesn't do chemical peels. The first was a vit c peel second I don't know as she didn't say except for it was a stronger peel than last time. I didn't even flake a tiny bit and her product doesn't seem to do magic on my skin as I had hoped. She does market her products so be prepared. IF YOU WANT AN EXCEPTIONAL FACIAL GO TO JANETTE but if you want a real peel where you see your skin shed, this isn't your place. I usually will give 5 stars as I respect this is someone's business so I'm not quick to condemn. I can't give her 5 stars because I am grading the actual service paid for not how well she did what she actually did do. I went for a peel but got a great facial. Won a gift certificate for a facial here at a school auction. Wasn't sure what to expect from this small, tucked away place in the heart of Los Feliz. What I found was cozy paradise! Upon walking in, I saw someone in their kitchen, MAKING many of the magical creams and soaps that were used during my facial. The facial itself was wonderful and relaxing, and my skin was glowing afterwards. But I especially appreciated that no one tried to sell me any of their products while getting it done. Instead, I felt their skincare advice came from a genuine place, not from a place of peddling. FINALLLLLLLYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!! My prayers have been answered, and BEING IN LA exists! I've seriously tried every non-toxic, natural skincare facialist and their recommended products in this town, and as a result, have spent the last decade being upset with my prematurely aging, acne-prone, dry af, hormonal face. But a week ago, on day three of my period, after using their products and regime for 3 months, I looked in the mirror and thought, "wow. what pretty skin!" My facial with Rachel started with a consultation - I showed her all my products and she went through and told me what was what. There were a few products she scoffed at (in a funny way, not shaming!), a few she endorsed, and a few she suggested to repurpose (jojoba oil, btw, should only be used as a shaving oil, and it's the best shaving help I've EVER used. It's very much comedogenic in EVERY other capacity.). Then, the facial was basically re-teaching me everything I knew about skincare (and I used to work as a beauty editor!). It was soothing, cleansing, effective. I left feeling refreshed and calm - every product smelled and felt so good it was so relaxing! I also left with a bunch of products and while it took my skin a few weeks to adjust, wow, I'm so glad I stuck to the regime. I called and emailed a few times when I was feeling weary of the transition and the entire staff was so supportive and knowledgable. I was going to head back in for a second facial, but the Covid-19 interruption means I just have to rely on their products and consultations, but they are working and are amazing and I can't believe how awesome my skin is looking without regular facials. She sat down with me before my treatment to ask me about my skin and to get an idea of my skin goals. I struggle with discoloration and scarring from high school acne and I had been told from other aestheticians that I needed photo facials to get rid of it but Rachel let me know we could get my skin clear without something that harsh (or expensive). I'm a life long tomboy, athlete, mechanic, electrician, carpenter, plumber and let's face it...anything that involves grit, dirt and sweat.
