Super bummed I have to update my review, but here we are. I came in for a mani/pedi (with an appointment!) and left not only disappointed, but with cuts and burns on literally every finger. That's 20 times a drill dug into my skin -- I flinched each time, made it clear it hurt, and it still kept happening. I'm now slathering Neosporin on my hands hoping they don't get infected. On top of that, even though I booked a mani & pedi together (like I always do), I sat for 2.5 hours watching them take walk-ins ahead of me. First a pedi. Then wait. Then finally a mani. If you value your customers' time, why overbook to the point people with appointments are left sitting there? The prices aren't cheap -- $170 with tip -- so you'd expect to at least leave feeling halfway happy. Instead, I left annoyed, sore, and wishing I'd gone anywhere else. My husband warned me after his last visit ("never again, they couldn't care less if you have an appointment") and sadly, he was right. And just to top it all off, I added paraffin to my mani. They put it on, walked away, and left me sitting there until it turned cold and useless. When I finally spoke up, I was told it wasn't cold -- while I sat there literally holding lumps of wax that stopped working 10 minutes earlier. Maroon -- if you value your regulars, stop chasing every walk-in dollar and start respecting the people who actually book ahead and keep you in business and respect your time as well as other customers. read more

I had a little time to kill so I decided to treat myself to a manicure. Working in healthcare one finds that they wash their hands many many times a day. The result is less than desirable nail cuticles and dry hands. Maroon Nails & Spa is a no-frills nail salon right on Sunset Blvd in the Silverlake area. I walked in and was immediately greeted by a nail tech and was offered a seat. I opted for the men's manicure with high-shine buff. The prices are very reasonable, and the result is a great 4 star manicure. I have had better manicures in this city but 4 star manicure at a great price is still a great deal that is difficult to pass up. Check them out if you happen to be in the area. My first experience here was very nice. I asked for hard gel and a french tip. Although some of the French tips weren't the same size I felt good about the experience because my eyelashes were perfect. I came today for an appointment and have left disappointed. I gave a picture of a design with French tip and asked for Susie specifically because she told me on my last visit that she specializes in designs. She not only failed at the design I asked for, she also drilled my nails so hard that I had to pull my hands back multiple times. I even tried to "help" her by changing my design to fit what she was "capable" of doing however that did not work at all. She then stated that I want it perfect. No Susie I just want my nails done properly. I had to tell Susie multiple times that I wanted square nails and they still came out round. I'm only "happy" with my pedicure. A different nail tech started to cut my toenails and didn't even ask me if I wanted them trimmed or cut, and by the way, I wanted them trimmed. I called and made this appointment and asked the price and imagine my surprise there were "extra fees" that came from no where. It's unfortunate that this place is close to my house. I've given this nail place 4 different tries and I'm always leaving feeling incomplete with the way my nails come out. This will definitely be my last visit here. I really wanted to like this place. The workers are wonderful and super friendly but my gel nails actually peeled before week. I will say that she did a wonderful job on my brow wax but maybe the color polish I chose was just old. So, maybe I will come back in the future. I've been back to Maroon a few times the last couple of months. After my most recent visits I'll will be testing out new nail salons again but will be back at some point. Keeping them in the rotation. When I've called ahead for appointments, upon arrival multiple times, no nail techs were free to start the appointment. They were overbooked and accepting people walking in still. On one of my last visits I asked for the Sugar Scrub Manicure. When the sugar scrub part of the manicure still wasn't performed 2 hours later we had to skip it. When I asked for the nail tech to do the cuticle treatment (included with the manicure) before applying the gel builder she told me it would be an extra $7 dollars. Yesterday I asked for the Maroon Manicure with gel builder plus paraffin (regularly get this here), and Maroon Pedicure with regular polish. My manicure was polka dots and they added a fake gold bead to each nail. Let me preface this with the fact that I've regularly received paraffin, designs, gel x, hard gel etc here. Yesterday the total was $153 before tip. All services I've received here for mani pedi, design, hard gel, etc have always ranged between $86 - $120. When I showed them the design/ colors I wanted and when they offered up the gold beads they did not say it would be "x" amount more or anything. In the last 20 hours, most of the gold beads are no longer gold. If this manicure chips or the beads fall off I will be going back to have them fixed after spending $153 + I've run into interesting and inconsistent pricing here many times. I've also been witness to other people who were a bit more vocal about the pricing discrepancies upon paying as well. On future visits I will ask for an itemized explanation of the total charge. read more

The place where I used to get my nails done moved out of the area, so I had to find a new place to go. Found this place not too far from where I live. Plenty of free parking spots in a shared lot, but it does get filled up pretty quickly. You can find free street parking. Plenty of nail colors to choose from. I only wanted a mani pedi and I was seated in a spa chair, but the massage chair wasn't put on and I wasn't instructed on how to use it nor was I asked if I wanted it on. There were mini tables on both sides of the chair so that you can place your hand on it while they worked on that hand. The spa for your feet had a plastic bag in it, and hopefully it's changed between customers. I honestly don't remember if it was changed prior to me placing my feet into the basin. I had two women working on me, so it went fairly quickly which I really appreciated. The lady doing my pedicure was careful and gentle while doing my cuticles and trimming my toenails. She was also pretty good at massaging my feet. The lady doing my manicure was also careful and gentle while doing my manicure. She wasn't as good at massaging my hands and arms. Both did a good job painting my nails. I had to sit there for a while to make sure my nails were dry. The only thing to watch was boring country videos. I would have preferred to watch the news. Maybe I should have asked if they could have turned the channel. Forgot my sandals, I got free thin sandals to wear. Definitely going back. read more

They've really expanded their selection of gel polishes over the last couple years and my gel manicures last for a long time. I don't usually make an appointment and never really have to wait long when I walk in. I get a lot of compliments on my nails and I have Maroon to thank for keeping my nails healthy and stylish! Pros: Maroon Nails will always fit you in, and they do a great job on acrylic nail design work. Their manicure / pedicures are also always good and they don't rush you or leave you with poorly done nails that chip quickly. Cons: Their prices for gel mani / pedis have become insanely high. Came this past week for a mani / pedi and selected a $26 basic manicure + $36 pedicure ($30 normally, but I upgraded to one with massage). When I went to check out, the price was $98! When I asked why the bill was so high, they explained that the price for using gel was $18 for hands and another $18 for feet. $18 each?! Gel has become the standard, and most businesses charge about $10 for gel (so $20 in total for hands + feet). $36 just for gel coats -- not GelX, not dip powder, just plain old gel with the standard amount of curing -- is insane. I respect that labor prices have become high, but not listing the cost of gel on their menu of services, and charging more than the cost of the upgraded pedicure itself is insane. I still tipped $10, but $108 for a gel mani and pedi is way too rich for my blood. If you look at my previous review from three years ago, I used to love this place and even mentioned that their prices were incomparable. Sadly that has changed significantly, far higher than the rate of inflation. read more

I've been a semi-regular client for the last three years,. Good location, plenty of parking in a strip mall and the price is right. Unfortunately the customer service is iffy. I've had good and okay experiences, but today was downright awful. No greeting upon arrival, the massage chair stopped working in mid-knead after five minutes and when I asked for assistance, my nail tech acknowledged that it appeared to be broken, but didn't offer a different chair or even pillow for my back! The rest of the service went downhill from there with a non-existent foot massage that consisted of squirting oil on the top of my feet & lower legs before wiping it off with a lukewarm towel. When it came time to pay, she appeared to be confused by the credit card machine and if I hadn't been paying attention would have double-charged me. read more
