Feb 10, 2026 I am…read morevery happy with my regular dentist Nadia Navid, as I have been going to her for over 15 years. During my last check-up, it was determined that I needed a root canal on the #30 molar, and I was given a choice of Orest M Balytsky, DMD, in Petaluma (who retired some time ago), and a married endodontic couple in Santa Rosa (forgot their names). I called the Petaluma one to get a rough estimate and was quoted $2906. So I called Santa Rosa and was quoted $3405. Both seemed a little high to me and when I mentioned it to two friends, they agreed. I then chatted with my neighbor, and she said that her husband and daughter went to Dr. Mark Roper on Cypress, and they were very pleased with him, and she suggested I call. THAT WAS THE BEST DECISION I COULD'VE MADE! The quote from Beverly, the receptionist, was almost $500 cheaper than Dr. Balytsky, and almost $800 cheaper than the Santa Rosa one. I made an appointment and immediately felt confident with Dr. Ropper, and his dental tech, Amy, and when he checked my tooth, he said I didn't need the scan -- saving me $150 right there!!! To make a long story short, I just got home and could've been happier -- not just the reasonable cost (total $2490) but the professional treatment and overall experience. (2 weeks after my root canal, I learned from another friend how happy he was with Dr. Roper.) As Beverly explained, Dr. Roper does not have multiple partners or office locations and doesn't have a huge staff -- just Amy and Beverly. I can't recommend Dr. Mark Roper and I hope my dentist, Dr. Navid, takes note of my 5-star experience/rating, and recommends her other patients to this excellent practice. She owes it to her patients -- and not just for cost reasons.

(Mind you her advertised hours for Friday is 8am to 1pm. We went in and she allowed my toddler to play in her wonderful waiting room and get comfortable. She was so friendly and good with him, she had some stuffed animals off to the side and she let him grab them and take them to the exam chair. She allowed me to hold him while she examined, treated and made me relieved with his condition. Again, very knowledgeable, conservative and informative. Thanks DR. Boyer - see you soon.

I was referred to Dr. Boyer by a colleague after years (8!) of not having dental insurance and not a lot of room in my budget to keep up on annual exams. Dr. Boyer was non-judgmental, gentle, and very good at explaining each and every procedure that needed done (a few cavities and two crowns). Dr. Boyer started on the easiest stuff first, to get me used to being in a dental chair again. She took breaks whenever I needed them! Dr. Boyer's office staff is also excellent, and I've never had a problem with their billing and my insurance company; I show up every 6 months to friendly faces! I highly recommend Dr. Boyer to anyone seeking great dental care. I wish her and her office staff the very best!

My wife and I have been patients at North Bay Smiles for several years and had generally positive…read moreexperiences with Dr. Szyperski and her team. However, we've decided to discontinue care. We initially chose NBS because they were in-network with our insurance. Over the past year, we began receiving bills for routine cleanings. After paying them, we followed up and were told our insurance denied coverage because the appointments were scheduled a few days prior to our next six-month eligibility window. NBS initially acknowledged this should have been caught when the appointments were scheduled. We understand that insurance coverage can be nuanced, but we also believe it's reasonable to expect an in-network provider to be familiar with a major insurance company's guidelines and help ensure their patients stay within coverage on something as routine as dental cleanings. We brought the issue up to Dr. Szyperski, and she immediately dismissed it as an insurance problem. The coverage rejection was framed as the insurance company being misleading, and there was no accountability or empathy for the nearly $500 we paid out of pocket for services that would normally be fully covered. She even went so far as to ask if we expected her to work for free and confusingly put it on us to decide if we wanted to pay the remaining balance or not (we did). We didn't necessarily enter the conversation looking for a refund or credit, but the lack of any ownership or empathy was disheartening. We don't intend to discourage anyone else from seeking treatment at North Bay Smiles--it was a solid dental practice for us up until that point, and I appreciated that they didn't recommend treatments unless they were absolutely necessary. But at the end of the day, I won't support a business that costs me money and doesn't appear to care.

I went in once before the pandemic and again in March 2021. The good: the place is bright and clean with what appears to be up-to-date equipment. They took x-rays which I could see on the screen. Quick and painless. The bad: I have the feeling, both times, that I was being up-sold. I understand that dental businesses don't make a lot of money on check-ups and cleaning, but that's the way it is. I don't make the rules. Both visits, they refused to do the insurance-covered teeth cleaning. They said I need "special cleaning." At times they called it "deep cleaning" and "gum scaling and root planing." Also bad: the front desk woman was rude and condescending. I came in ten minutes early, but she seemed upset that I had not responded to an email asking me to set up on their new portal. She said I could do it now, but it would take a while and if it took too long, they would have to reschedule my appointment, OK? I replied, "No, that would not be okay," remembering that they're booking three months out and I've waited the whole pandemic before scheduling this appointment. Her tone was what I'd expect a bad parent to take with a naughty five-year-old. She gave me a post-it and pen and said, "...so you can write down your username and password, so you remember it." With the looming threat of rescheduling, I hurriedly filled out the lengthy online survey of my medical history, WHICH I HAVE DONE BEFORE, probably on paper. Remember, this is my second visit. I'm not sure what crazy procedures I approved or whether I listed everything that should be listed. I made it to the finish line in ten minutes and waited for my appointment to begin. The uncertain: the dental assistant didn't seem convinced by her own sales pitch. She used vague language. She said that the routine cleaning wouldn't do any good. Last time she even said it would do more damage than good because it would just "stir up stuff." I asked if brushing my teeth and flossing was doing more damage and she seemed flustered. She listed a string of bad outcomes if I didn't approve the deep cleaning. I remember she mentioned heart attack. I was there for 90 minutes, easily enough time for a thorough check-up and teeth cleaning, but only the check-up was done - and most of that was my gums. She poked my gums with a sharp instrument - 6 times for every tooth - three places inside and three places outside. After poking around each tooth and calling out the numbers (between 2 and 4 with a few 5s on a scale of 1-10) she said, "there appears to be some blood." I figured that might be from - oh I don't know - maybe having my gums poked 120 times! But she said it indicates that I was close to having gum disease. I've moved on to another dentist. Both the hygienist and the dentist said I don't need the "gum scaling and root planing." Instead, they recommended waiting and showed me how I can better care for my teeth and gums.
